Welcome to LivingPianos.com. I’m Robert Estrin with a personal story about every piano I’ve lived with! I started selling pianos out of my home decades ago. So, I’m not going to include every single piano I have literally lived with, but every single one that was my practice piano. There are a lot of them, so let’s get started!
Full Article:

All these pianos he owned and he ended up with his dad’s 🥺♥️
His dad (Morton Estrin) was a famous concert pianist.
Mr. Estrin has lived my absolute wildest dreams. To play pianos, sell pianos, and to inspire others… Such a joy these videos bring.
What an amazing history! Can't imagine having that many pianos in one home.
Here's my history:
1. Horugel upright piano I got for free from my father (owned 1 yr)
2. Kawai Rx-1 baby grand piano I bought used (owned a few years)
3. Fully restored 1917 Model A Hamburg Steinway I bought "used" ... it's the only thing I would spend one salary on and it was absolutely worth it. (Owned for 3 years so far)
My adventure ends here - unless I'm actually like you Robert!
Thanks for sharing your personal stories and memories that come with them Robert :)
This is my favorite episode you’ve done. That Nocturne is my favorite piece of music ever and you rendition is superb. Bravo! You continue to inspire me.
I also agree !🥀🥀🎶🤔☺️
This journey of owning different pianos and ending up with your dad’s is so cathartic. That performance at the end suited the story too. This is probably my favorite video in this channel. Thank you!
That's good to hear!
@@correasilvio2010 wow! Thanks for sharing.
No words can describe the magnificent sound of this beautiful piano. It must be very special for you to enjoy your father’s piano.
Dr. Dean Bard.
Love these stories, Robert! You've got a fantastic channel here.
I greatly enjoyed the story telling. What an amazing collection of pianos over the years! You were truly blessed to have such a plethora of pianos to try!
This was an amazing video. I loved hearing about your life's story and close relationship with different grand pianos. It's a privilege to be able to own such marvelous instruments!
Thanks Robert, it has been one of the more memorable videos I have watched on this channel, full of passion and interesting background. And your current piano is lovely and has a deep meaning to you. Great!
This was perfect timing as I'm wrapping this piece up myself! Also hearing about the history of the piano was great and really added to it
Perfectly beautiful playing!! Those high notes sound amazing and nice gentle soft sounding sections
Fascinating ! You can tell a tale too.
It all adds depth . Bit of a privilege to eavesdrop on your playing Robert , thank you
GR8 stories, told with such enthusiasm. It was easy to visualize your piano journeys and, most importantly, hear your love of pianos and your love of music.
Awesome sharing. Much thanks for highlighting your pianos.
So entertaining , and what a lovely world to live in Robert! The house of 27 piano's -amazing !
Thanks for all your wonderful videos...I learn so much and they give me joy.
That was so beautiful. And really interesting journey you have taken. Thank you for sharing.
As beautiful as that piano is, as velvety as the sound resonates, it makes my heart swell at the thought of you carrying that piece of your father with you. ❤️
Thank you for your videos. Your presentations, what you say and what you play
are a repeated source of interest and joy.
Hey Robert , I have been following you for many years now and I have to be honest with you , I am obsessed with your style, play, teaching approach and mostly your passion for music. You melted my heart with this piece that you have just played on your dad's piano. Brilliant and thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with people like me. I have always wanted to play classical music but didn't get started now until I was in my 20s. I took lessons for two years and because I could not afford a piano or a synthetiser at that time. You've just reiterated the importance of starting early . Stay blessed and stay encouraged!

I loved the stories, but the Chopin made me close my eyes and savor every moment.🤩
Love your stories and your playing!
Thank you for sharing your facinating history of personal pianos.
What impresses me the most about your father’s piano is the sparkling tone quality. I thought by comparison to being in proximity to a cascading waterfall; the richness of the sound. Thanks so much Robert for your insights.
Beautiful playing, Robert! Beautiful piano, too.
aww right in the feels
This was a really wonderful video, thanks for sharing Robert :)
Thank you Robert. Beautifully played Chopin Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2. This is one of my favorites my Father played on his concert Mason & Hamlin that he bought from his teacher. Brings back memories.
I think you ended up with an amazing piano. So powerful, but also so delicate when you want it to be. The sound is just gorgeous!
Such a way to summarize your story, to play Chopin on that magnificent SF 10. The singing quality is so pure and clear it's like a Cardinal warbling on a crisp beautiful morning. Beautiful.
I immensely enjoyed sharing your journey to the final fantasy. The ending was enchanting - having your father's piano which is more special in more ways than the quality of the instrument alone. It was a pleasure listening to the recording through a vintage hifi set and large speakers. It completely filled the room.
Wonderful story; thank you for sharing, Robert. LOVE your (Dad's) SF-10!!!
Thank you for the very interesting story. Even on an iphone it’s clear you’ve chosen a truly exceptional instrument. Such clarity, depth, and even persona.
Great presentation Bro. Very interesting ! Thank you.
Your invention is amazing. It sounds and plays like an acoustic piano. I can see your invention be put into those antique square pianos to make them playable again. Today's high tech + last century's craftsmanship!
Robert, this is truly a Gem among Gem Videos - truly your best best best video. Thank You for sharing your amazing stories of going from one piano to another.
So glad you enjoyed it!
I bought a SF 10 from Living pianos and was very happy with the purchase.
Enjoyed your story. Amazing to imagine one person with so many pianos. My dad gave my mom a piano as a wedding present and we still have it in the family. Same with my grandmother’s piano-my daughter has it. I’ve gone through three as I upgraded through the years. I’ve had my Steinway B for 20 years now. I thought maybe it was time for a new one, but when I shopped I always liked mine better than the ones I tried.
Love your stories and your channel. I visit every day. God Bless.
I too, have my father's piano, a Chickering grand 5' 7'' made in 1966 and a beautiful singing instrument. My father was a professional pianist and teacher and I studied with him. So happy I did. Every day I play it I think of my dad.
I confess in my younger days playing several of the Baldwin grands with the Renner actions and they were as good as any Steinway (or other brand) that I’ve played. Alas, always a bit short on space and money, I passed on buying any of them, and today I am pretty happy with my Yamaha P-515 with the Bosendorfer sampling. The weighted keys and the responsive action work well (probably better than my fingers at my age) and it doesn’t need to be tuned every six months and I can go through an interface directly into my computer recording software. I got rid of my old upright that I’d had since college - gave it away to a family that had a young son who wanted to learn, and the piano was good enough for that. I wish that I had owned the many quality pianos that you have had! Thanks for the saga of the pianos that you’ve lived with.
Excellent. Thank you for sharing.
Your videos are great. I am new to piano,, but have been playing drums & guitar for 40 years. I FINALLY got my own piano and am excited to learn. And your Dad sure sounds like an interesting man. The path of different pianos you have owned is very similar to people I know that play Guitar. Always searching, at first don't have the money for the one they really want, hopefully and usually end up with a great example of what they were looking for.
Thank you for this story.
best video of the channel
❤
Beautiful Baldwin L Robert. All of those Pianos in your life and your favorite... Your father's. Wonderful. I also have a Baldwin L, made in 1982. I love my piano, beautiful rich tone, exquisite bass. I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you for such great information and life stories.
Wow. What an amazing launching pad you had -- a great pianist as a father and a Steinway baby grand on which to practice. More power to you.
Wow, what a trip through pianoland!
That was a Nice story. Thanks for your goodness.
Bob, this was such a good video. So enjoyable. Since I have been following you for a few years now and because I visited you out in California a few times, I recognized some of these stories. It was nice to hear you retell about some of these pianos. Thank you for posting.
It's good to hear from you!
Thank you for sharing your incredible pianos with the world. Your videos are quite inspirational. Keep up the great work and be safe. GBY --Xanna--
Really enjoyed this video.
Very entertaining, educational, interesting, AND well recorded, videographed, and edited. Fine work.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful video, Robert! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
I love your channel. Thanks
27 pianos in your house! youre living my dream
My story is very short, but rather exciting lately. First, a cheap used Yamaha electric keyboard right before I left for college studying music education. Trumpet major and never had any piano lessons, so it was basically for doing homework. Then a Kimball upright as a wedding gift a few years ago, decent shape but nothing special.
Now, just a couple weeks ago, a 1920s Chickering 5'8" grand in quite good shape (no clue if it's been reworked), and more than serviceable tuning, that we found for well under $100. I did not neglect a zero there. I'm only barely more advanced than a beginner, but I'm in love with that instrument and look forward to years of improvement on it!
Thank you for putting out such great content, it's been helpful for me in finding this used instrument and is truly an inspiration to push on and learn this unfamiliar but incredible instrument!
That was interesting. Thanks for sharing some of your history.
Love the piano story!
Great piano odyssey, you got me thinking of past pianos also, that brought back some fond memories, basically of just getting them into challenging spaces.
Yes, they're all like old friends or actually roommates, lol.
Great vid as always, thanx for sharing ;-)
What a wonderful story! Considering how many great, expensive you have access to... you end up with a humble but amazing Baldwin SF10 from your father.
and a lovely performance of a sweet sweet sad song
I loved this video!
What a wonderful story. Hearing you play the Chopin on a Baldwin like that makes me think of Liberace. I have always loved the Baldwins too. when I get a bigger place I will probably find and old one and restore it 😁
Love your channel and your Chopin. I met your Father through my Horn teacher, the late John Barrows. I was Mr. Barrows’ first “kid” student in his NYC/NY Woodwind Quintet days. Much more to share with you, especially about my Mother’s pianos.
I too am a French hornist. I majored in both piano and French horn in conservatory!
Thanx, Robert.
What a lovely story! What a life.
A video on how to record a piano properly and the equipment involved would be great. It's hard to capture the sound of a great piano like this well but you certainly did!
"Truly a treasure."

This is so interesting! Thank you, Robert, for sharing this with us. You've done it all-- performer, teacher, businessman. You are so expert in all facets of the art and the business of the piano, along with growing up with it, too; it is thoroughly part of you and your life. Would be an interesting book to read! (Do you have a title to tell us about?) Always interesting and entertaining to listen to, and so beautiful a performer to hear. Thank you.
I do have several projects in the works which you will be hearing about. I really appreciate your enthusiasm - thank you!
Robert
That was a wonderful story. I too had a Baldwin Hamilton for my recording studio in Miami. It was great!
I never played piano though. Today l am learning to play l have a Korg 170S with hammer action.
It's pretty nice to practice on. 😊
Thanks again for the story.
Greetings from India. I have listned to many performances of this Nocturne on RUclips and most of them were performed by some legend or top notch professional world class pianist but somehow your interpretation of this Nocturne is i liked the most. Frankly speaking..i dont know you or your channel yet. The video was on my recommendations but it was worth it and yeah...your stories too.
There are so many performances of this Nocturne out there - I really appreciate that! Here's one of my favorite: ruclips.net/video/kj3CHx3TDzw/видео.html
Thank you Robert for sharing such an interesting story on your personal pianos, it is truly fascinating! The Baldwin grand you now have from your father has a gorgeous sound, and your playing was beautiful! My child's piano history is much simpler - start with a Yamaha U1 ->C. Bestein A189 (still has it at home) -> Kaiwai CA67 hybrid for practicing in dorms/apartments -> Steinway S (on loan from school) -> Steinway B
Chopin Nocturne, for ever , beautiful , a piece for the young students and old !
Lovely story!
Good video. Sounds like you started in the business back in the 80’s? Great to have your dad’s piano.
That piano sounds amazing.
Great story about your piano history. My wife and daughter went to IU Bloomington so I have been able to visit there and enjoyed seeing the campus and surrounding area. Only problem is now my daughter lives in Indianapolis and we live in California so we don't see her as much as we would like. Always enjoy your channel and playing. Thanks!
Thank you Mr Robert for your stories and perspectives! I acquired a 1894 195 cm Bösendorfer last year.. reminds me of the Mason and Hamlin grands I encountered in my childhood, but the upper registers are like a pure Harp. I hope and welcome you to drop by and take it for a spin. I live in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Schönen Abend noch!
I would love to visit. If you can arrange concerts, I will come and play for you!
Luv it!
Wow! What a great story! And Good Lord you have wonder touch on that Chopin Nocturne!
^..^~~
It was great to hear your own piano at the end. I'm stuck always playing Bechsteins at the moment and it makes you remember there are other tonal landscapes out there. Thanks
This is a problem I wish i had haha
@@Marklar0 haha yeah it’s a problem 😂 I just meant that if you go round only playing German pianos, it’s easy to forget that other instruments are quite different
Very cool video and lovely playing. Op 9 No 2 is why I took up piano though I still can't play it.
oh wow your originally from long island! I hope to buy a piano from you one day, great story, thank you for sharing
An amazing tale of growth. I always wanted a grand piano after I first played one during auditions and recitals. Finally managed to get one. It's not perfect but I like the sound of it. My mom bought me a electric keyboard when I was 11 to practice on before I had a piano. I'm 31 now and still have it.
@@correasilvio2010 Nice sounding piano and playing.
Fantastic video! How interesting -- I really enjoyed that! I have a request: a performance of the Chopin G Minor Ballade. I love how you play it in the excerpts you do.
One of these days I must present the Chopin G-minor Ballade. I even thought of doing several performances since I never play it the same twice!
My dream pianos:
Steingraeber 138 upright
August Förster 125 Satin Mahogany/Cherry
Fazioli F212
Mason & Hamlin BB/A
Ant. Petrof 275
@@correasilvio2010 AF 125?
I am somewhat amazed at how the tone on this piano differs from most I hear... even through my computer's sound system I can hear the warmth and depth.
I know now why your father loved it so...
I love the sound of your personal piano you inherited from your dad
could you please do a video featuring the piano action that triggers the computer, I need to know more about this! Thanks!
Thanks
Robert you story is a bit like mine: countless pianos in my life. Never was a big fan of Baldwin, but I have to say your father's piano you wound up with is very pleasing and rich. If I lived anywhere near you I'd want you to find me a new piano and give me advanced lessons !
We ship our pianos free anywhere in the continental U.S.! And global delivery is available. I also teach online: ruclips.net/video/QxgXBIKXtxM/видео.html
Lovely
Your Father's piano ---just a wonderful sound !
Your dad is such a great guy
What a heritage !
My piano story is a short one.
1. 61 key Casio had that for 7 months
2. Used Yamaha clavinova cvp-201 (still have and play at nights)
3. 1994 kawai 5’4 KG-1A found her for 4,500 because the owners were getting new wood floors and the piano wouldn’t match them. fell in love. Only 22 so who knows what my future will hold. Hopefully a lot of music to come
A great story Robert. I can just imagine his saintly parents when Robert was a little boy, he must have had a thousand toys and he went from one to another every few minutes and the living room was a.....well...you get the picture. But of course...he had fun!
Thank you for sharing the story of your journey with all the piano if you had in your life. I genuinely enjoyed it. One thing though, you mentioned the piano that you have in your studio currently, and that you would talk more about it coming up. I didn't hear anything about that one, and I'm very curious as to what it is. Is it just a piano that you stripped everything off of it as far as the case. I came across a nice Baldwin, and it needs quite a bit of tuning, but it's a stand up wall piano and maybe I might want to do something like what you have. I'm not sure yet, because being a Baldwin I don't know if I want to do that to it - it's almost sacrilegious LOL.
I've always been a Steinway and Brothers kind of pianist, but the most impressive piano I've ever had the pleasure to play was the Bosendorfer Imperial Grand Piano at Nebraska Wesleyan University. I've played a couple recitals upon that piano and it had fantastic sound, but I must admit, that even in a concert hall, it was a little too much piano for me. I'd be satisfied with a Baldwin, or a Mason and Hamlin. In a pinch, I'll even accept playing on a Yamaha, despite its super-heavy keys, but give me a Steinway and Brothers baby grand and I'm a happy girl.
Julia Nadeau It’s Steinway and Sons……
I just got a 1917 54 in. upright Mason to restore What a sound.
