    My girlfriend and I did the exact recipe this past weekend but only used half of all the ingredients and 196 proof grain alcohol. It turned out amazing and all of our friends that have tried it absolutely loves it. It packs a punch and you get the Moonshine feel but has a nice sweet flavor to go along with it. • @300001111
    @300001111 5 лет назад +52

    I am a moonshine purist but apple pie is a very common thing to do. I think the "purists" in your other video are just trolling😅
    You can also make apple pie "cold" (without the boiling/simmering in the pot), especially with such a high proof this is no problem. It‘s also possible with a lower proof (e.g. 80 proof), just make sure your juice and/or cider is "pasteurized" which is basically the same thing as you would achieve with boiling.
    For the alcohol: grain is not wrong (and may be even smoother/more neutral) but for many moonshine "connoisseurs" authentic shine is corn spirit. This is simply because back in the days (i.e. prohibition) moonshine was usually made from a corn and sugar mash, although it is (and was) not "forbidden" to also add rye, grain or even a little malted barley to the mash. But - like with bourbon - the major part was (and should be) almost always corn. There are some "moonshines“ out there that are grain neutral spirits, but be aware that this is basically just vodka in a mason jar.
    The cream vodka (I didn‘t even know that there is something like this) is obviously your personal twist to the recipe but I can imagine that it matches the flavour profile quite well (as long it‘s not too dominant).
    So I think it‘s a decent recipe, I would not do it the exact same way but I can‘t see a reason to call it unauthentic. Historically, moonshine is something that took place beyond the legal framework anyway, which is not really a place to throw around strict definitions😉

      @tbjtbj4786 4 года назад +3

      I agree that apple pie is a ok mixed drink.
      But my thing is if it's bought out of a store it's not shine. I know leagle grain or corn whiskey is close but it not the same.
      And to tell the truth I don't understand the fasination with shine. Except your not allowed to have it.
      I been around it. Some is ok some is not really that good.
      But I rather have a good bourbon any time.
      And I think that show moonshiners is crazy $100+ a gal? Not any that I have ever seen.

      @@capitaldd5840 not from what I have seen. Most of the time it's proffed. Which is eather mixing with water or the low end run what the show calls tails.
      The show showing them cutting the shine is correct and normal.
      Most of the time it's 90 - 110 prof.
      Unless some ones showing off or made A spical run you don't really see the shine in the 145-190 range that much.
      Well at least not around here.

    • @tbjtbj4786
      @tbjtbj4786 4 года назад +1

      I think mash ingredients are kind of a local thing.
      Here a lot is made in the fall. They are really making a rum but it's still called shine.
      When the suger cane is cut for making cane syurp the skimming are kept maybe a little juice is added. Then cooked off.
      The skimming are the fome and other impurities that come from boiling the juice down to syurp.
      And really old recipes call for boild corn cob juice.
      Truly. There a old way of making a corn jelly where you boil the cob not the corn to get flavor and some suger.
      Back in the old days 1890-1930 they may have added a bit of mollases to it to bump up the % of achol in the mash.

    Awesome. Did a batch just in time for Xmas, although I admit most of it is kept for future use. I used the spiced apple cider and also did the Everclear got 2 1000 ml and then one 1.75 liter, then the vodka as suggested. All the other ingredients as suggested. Awesome taste. Next time I might get the 1.75 ml bottles as suggested. One difference for me, I used about a 14 or 16 quart pot. Folks that have not done it may be surprised how long it will take to get down to room temperature for next step. Here in MI I have a breezeway, put it out there with lid on at about 11 pm (about 30 to 35 degrees out there) and around 8 am next morning it was ready to mix with alcohol. I put the roughly 12 quarts into ( 3 ) 1 to 2 gallon iced tea containers that have a pour spout. Then filtered it back into the 14 quart pot, then added alcohol and mixed. After that took my glass measuring device with a pour spout and filled the mason jars. Worked fine and one less thing to have to wash later ..... Cheers .....

    I’ve made real apple moonshine before ( which they call brandy because we made it with apple mash instead of corn mash- fruit mash makes it a brandy). It was so hot you could barely taste the apple. But this was outside with a still. I think your reciepe sounds very good but you have the expense of buying alcohol where we made ours. I’m gonna try yours too though just for fun.😄 btw you didn’t have to cut hardly any apples compared to the truck load we had to cut up! It took two days for three people to cut all ours up!

    When making this, do you let it set for a few weeks before enjoying? And how long can it sit with the apple slices in it? I know it's in alcohol so mold isn't an issue. Just want to know if it will effect the consistency and texture in the alcohol if left to long.
    Thank you!

    Try this. Peel and core a whole pineapple, cut into fairly large chunks and put into a Pyrex pie plate or any pyrex dish it will fit in. Drizzle a little vanilla extract over it. Evenly dust ground cinnomon over the top, give it a good mix to evenly coat and roast in the oven till nicely caramelized. Put that into a large gallon jar and pour your grain over that. Seal it up and let it sit for at least a week in a cool dark place. Give it a shake every once and a while. When you are ready, pour it through a fine mesh strainer and bottle/jar it up. Delicious, way less sugar, and its closer to true moonshine potency. Be careful, its stronger than it taste. Then you can eat the grain soaked pineapple if you can tolerate the taste or freeze it and blend it up into a frozen drink with a little apple juice or cider added in. Depending on your level of alcoholism, you may want to add a shot or two or four of vodka in the mix.✌
