You can have so much fun with bloodlines. I actually invented one to throw a curveball and a mystery at a group that panned out rather nicely.Basically a corporation has got their hands on some Vitea and has created a synthetic bloodline without really understanding vampires. The resultant bloodline (referred to in game as “the promotion“) had violently toxic blood making the embrace a weeklong procedure taking place in an intensive care unit and preventing the company being able to use ghouls. Encounters with these vampires were very interesting for the players because the vampires were very low generation but not very old and had few abilities so they were an unusual thing to fight around. The party even managed to get the Prince of the city killed by convincing them to the Diablorise The local “board member“ resulting in the melting from the inside, killed by thick black noxious vitea.

Clan Nagaraja very much did NOT lose their bane of having serrated teeth and needing to eat flesh. In the cults of the blood gods book where the Hecata are introduced, there are special rules inside that detail what adjustments to make to disciplines and banes for certain bloodlines, including the Nagaraja AND Samedi, both as creation rules and as loresheets. The Nephilim and their special powers are ALSO in the Cults of the Blood Gods book. if you haven't read that one, I highly recommend it as it seems to have a lot of the things you miss along with some new ones. I really think that they plan to add the others in the future since they have already done so with these.

RIP Giovanni and its offshoots (and the fact that THEY were an offshoot). I think this whole condensing of the Bloodlines has hurt the Giovanni tree (now Hecata) greatly.
A lot of people like to talk about how the old system was overcomplicated, but it's not like you had to know every bit of lore to play. It felt more like, whatever idea you wanted for your character or NPC, there would be some in-game info to help you make it happen.
I am one of those people that loves having rich lore to draw from and work with, as opposed to it being a free-for-all. I imagine it'd be total bliss to play with a group of people who are all fans of the old lore and want to try to stick to it for a campaign. The Bloodlines added such color and flavor to the world of VtM, not to mention how the individual disciplines were so varied and cool.

Sure, he's a Brujah so the default would be baiting him into a frenzy that'll lead him to breach the Mascarade so others are then tasked to take him down. "Simple" enough, right? Right... But what if he's actually a True Brujah who can go back in time and expose our involvement? THEN we have a serious problem. Y’all are gonna *hear* the sweatiness of this post.
    Visceratika (default Gargoyle discipline)
    Bardo (Child of Osiris discipline)
Koldunism (Tzimisce magic that’s not clan-specific)
Daimonion (Baali discipline which is gifted when someone becomes an Infernalist)
Possibly Valeren/Obeah and Vicissitude (Salubri and Tzimisce disciplines)
Visceratika: allows you to know who/what’s in a building, move through concrete and stone like water, STAY OUT IN THE SUN IF YOU DON’T MOVE.
Koldunism: Enslave the spirits of the land to control the ground, water, fire and wind around you, as well as emotional states of those nearby-also allowing you to resist the fear of death by sunlight, which is handy if you’re trying to stay still in daylight.
Bardo: restoring humanity, warding off demons, sustaining yourself on animal blood instead of human blood, overwhelm people with bliss to prevent conflict, prevents people from being turned into vampires, puts people to sleep, PERFORM A RITUAL TO BRIEFLY WALK IN THE DAYLIGHT
Daimonion: traumatize and terrify people with demonically fueled awareness, fire immunity, demon summoning, cause everyone to become a Fucken psychopath on a one man crusade against the world, cause OTHER VAMPIRES TO BURN LIKE THEY’RE IN THE SUNLIGHT EVEN IF IT’S THE DEAD OF THE BLACKEST MIDNIGHT!!
Valeren/Obeah: Heal all injuries of those around you, make people passive to you, increase/decrease pain of yourself/others, bring peace to the suicidal, cleanse the soul of your target, exorcise a possession, HEAL MENTAL ILLNESS!!
Vicissitude: morph and contort your body into entirely new shapes at will, become a giant bat, become a warlord of the night, spray burning blood like dragon’s breath, and TURN INTO A LITERAL DRAGON.
Now…imagine a Gargoyle reshaping themself into a beautiful person and standing in the sunlight, only to suddenly grow an entirely new, sun-proof leg…repeatedly…until you’re walking in the sunlight…until you’re tired, then you perform a ritual to walk in the sunlight unbothered…AND MELT INTO THE GROUND WHEN YOUR WALK’S OVER!!
A Gargoyle who’s not afraid to brown nose would be able to become a *god* , like any Tzimisce and Tremere dreams of being. Not all of these are clan-specific! The wiki openly says that Bardo’s something the Children of Osiris learn to perform, the Baali abilities are gained through being RE-embraced, Koldunism’s something anyone can learn if they’re in Romania for long enough, and Visceratika’s also something Gargoyles can teach to other Cainites if they’re feeling generous…only ones that’re questionable are Obeah/Valeren and Vicissitude yet Vicissitude’s described as a fucking VIRUS that infects Cainites. Nagaraja don't have pointed teeth because of the Embrace IIRC, their bane was literally needing to eat flesh and the pointed teeth wasn't actually part of it like he says in the video(though again, could have been changed between the editions as I played one when they were originally introduced). They literally file their teeth in order to make them pointed just to make consuming flesh and dealing with their bane easier.

Holy shit we're unfortunate in our game.
I am currently playing the one and only Tzimisce in the area to have declared Camarilla loyalty. He's also been Sheriff, though that's a different story. Through a series of increasingly unfortunate events our coterie came to terms with the fact that our Prince was going crazy. By "come to terms with" I really mean we sat down and plotted a coup. The Lasombra at the table, however, had another idea. She ran and tattled to the Prince.
Knowing a shadow wizard was onto us, knew our names and faces, and wanted us dead drove us to the only person we could imagine had the power to help. My poor Tzimisce. Already suffering the indignity of playing by Cammie rules. Found himself asking the Tremere Primogen to shelter them. Only because painstaking effort had revealed to us that he plotted for the Prince's seat did we go to him. Only because that specific Tremere favored the idea of people owing him did he accept.

    Antitribu isn't a bloodline thing.
If my character defects politically, it doesn't change bloodline.
A bloodline is a BLOOD line. It's a divergent group with a heritability of identity through the embrace, or its blood.
You could have an antitribu bloodline as in a whole bloodline that has opposing sect loyalties to the clan at large, but its members would only be individually considered antitribu if they then sided with the clan at large because it's from the bloodline that their politics diverges while their blood is distinctly of the bloodline.
This terminology dancing is making me dizzy.

    • @picklefathernurgle2719
      @picklefathernurgle2719 Год назад

I'm pretty sure that splitting off politically from your Clan means that you are now an Antitribu Bloodline. Because as a result of you splitting off politically, any Childer you create would be brought up with your own brand of Kindred politics. Which would then mean that *your* bloodline is now renegade. Course any vampire down your bloodline (including yourself) could join back up with the main Clan, but that goes without saying.
What you seem to take issue with is the differentiation between a bloodline and a Bloodline, which is pretty much the same thing but to a more extreme degree. You don't just split off from a Clan and go from a lowercase bloodline to a major offshoot, uppercase Bloodline overnight, complete with separate disciplines and variation of the Clan Bane. It takes a few hundred years of active experimentation and cultural isolation for that to happen.

Both you and the other responder are right. Ambiguous terminology (or the inaccurate use of it) doesn't help AND our man TheBurgerkrieg didn't start this mess.
Who are the Cammie Toreador to say they're the true or default line when the ones in the Sabbat tend to behave more like the gaggle of absolute degenerates they were meant to be? Terms like "rogue childer" or "antitribu" are only useful because of the implications they carry in order to help weave a political narrative and retcon history to make a specific faction look better by comparison.
To me, VtM will always be "Mental gymnastics: the game". A good storyteller will often force players into situations in which they have to assemble some sort of rationalisation for their transgressions against their own tennets ("I didn't drain that mortal because I was hungry and got carried away; he was complicit in the mess I want to clean up" sort of deal). There's a very good example of this somewhere in episode three or four of Season 1 of NY by night (no spoilers, but I can point it out for you if you want). Hell, I once witnessed a Ventrue player justify his character's desertion to the Movement by effectively stating that the Cammie Ventrue were all complacent underachievers who rely on Cammie bureacracy and infrastructure instead of brute-forcing their way into the positions of power that should be their blood right.
Ultimately, these politically loaded terms are subjective. Sabbat Tzimisce might think they "keep it more real" than independents because they're actually pushing a defined agenda. That doesn't mean the nominally independent Old Tzimisce are wrong (don't say that within earshot of their ghouls); it just means they're conforming to a different political narrative that serves them better. You can build a whole chronicle around this and have some serious fun with it. A term such as antitribu is used as a slur against the group with which your character is aligned? Good! Spin it against whoever flung it against you, defeat them at their own game, make them look weak and insecure; their own "allies" will eventually jump them for you.
Play the game, rule these nights.

The setting is a spectrum of a sandbox that you can push and pull as you please to serve your story.
V5 just set out to simplify decades of development in to something more easy to approach and more contemporary for new fans to get in to. I have never taken their amalgamation of the less core disciplines as their actual deletion or true change.
It makes sense that all vampiric disciplines are all connected to some extent, despite being on different parts of the vampiric discipline spectrum. Protean and Vicissitude make sense to be very close in the spectrum of disciplines for example, that the motions a vampire goes through psychologically or physiologically to draw on such powers are very close in nature, just with a different perspectiveor tweak here and there. That said, I would fully expect all ST's who know of the deeper lore to restrict certain discipline amalgams to certain clans or bloodlines unless there is good reason for a character to have learned such unusual uses of that spectrum.
Meanwhile it is great for new players to have a rule set that is much more compact to learn faster to play their games in without needing to learn all of the dense lore and they will not be far off the mark.
I also think it makes sense that as time goes on and vampire culture slowly catches up to the rapidly evolving human culture, certain divisions of old start to mix a bit in the cultural cosmopolitan melting pot of the modern world. For disciplines, it especially makes sense at the low end for young vamps to share things with each other that they might not have in the past. This new mix that we see with varied predator types etc allows for very interesting character concepts with identities previously impossible. Yet for higher amalgams that the youth have less access too, the identity disciplines remain much more divided.
Bloodlines can all still be made, either through some lore sheets or home brew, simply bringing what is known in to the new.
That's how I took the modern bloodline and discipline mixing for my stories at least.

They're interesting on one level but a total break with the theme of the game (having "designated good guys" in a world literally called the World of Darkness was a tone break) and a little too goofy for me on the other. I think something interesting COULD have been done with the idea that the Brujah had an old clan/young clan split between the knightly warrior-philosophers and the gutterpunk anarchists, similar to how the Tzimisce split between aristocratic old clan and the iconoclast new clan, and a discipline split is a good way to mark that kind of schism (like with the old clan Tzim having Dominate not Visc), but Temporis was a goofy discipline that wasn't thematic at all. For the Sabbat Tzimisce Visc made them terrifying alien predators and for the Old Clan Dominate made them more akin to the old Dracula story so it was thematic. Temporis means you might as well change the color of your cape and become a superhero, it's an X-man discipline not a horror discipline.

I know Masquerade has very set-in-stone lore for the origins of vampirism, but I've always enjoyed the notion of a primordial, "perfect" strain of vampirism that completely strips all humanity from its victims, transforming them into a leech-like monster that's physically unstoppable, but entirely mindless and terrified of light.
I like this idea because it emphasizes the inherent humanity within all other vampires. Many may idolize "the beast," but in its purest form it isn't some proud hunter or majestic monstrosity, it's a shivering, starving _thing,_ locked away in the dark corners of the world.

They have their own discipline which lets them fuck with time. So I’d say yeah they probably count.

True Brujah? Yeah they count. They get a whole other discipline called Temporis which is literally time control.

To the “ . . . having DNA for tentacles but no tentacles . . . ”, aren’t our tongues the same thing? Like technically different, but adjacent definition to a tentacle?

I love many bloodline clans simply because they evoke so much Clive Barker levels of eldritch magic, beyond Tzimisce of course.
