I have read both, and find the Quran more compelling. I find it more honest in the story of Prophet Lut PBUH than the Bible's Lot. How can a Prophet have children with his daughters? I have debated Jay Smith once, and would be very pleased to debate him again, depending on whether the subject was one that interested me. But a second round would be the same as the first. I would focus on religious phenomena using the academic methods of Comparative Religion. Jay Smith would cordially blast Islam and promote his own faith. That is why we will never debate again. Are you sure? Jay will only say what comes in his mind to refute all that Dr. Shabir Ali says. Everything that Dr. Shabir says are facts. Dr. Shabir only talks on facts and the mathematical findings of the structure and words are all facts. Dr Shabir himself had applied the same procedures used to assess the Quran on the bible and the old testament but there are no patterns as seen from the Quran. I suggest you go and apply the procedures used to assess the Quran on any other books, I am sure you will never find any patterns in existence with them.

When you read quran you will find out so much bad things when reading it. Like Sura 9 verse 29-30 where Muhammad said that kill those who do not believe in Allah and in his messenger. Surah 5 verse 51 says do not take jews and christians for your friends because they are freind of each other. I know both men and am certain that both would be very happy to debate again. I have debated Jay Smith once, and would be very pleased to debate him again, depending on whether the subject was one that interested me. But a second round would be the same as the first. He first said that the Bible is the word of God, then he said that it is not a complete book because we do not have the original copy [45:12]
THEN he said that some parts were added to the Bible [46:07],
THEN he said that this is not the word of God, but rather the words of a person inspired by God [52:38].
So he admits that the Bible is not the word of God and that it is distorted.

Came here expecting something different went out disappointed as usual by Dr. Shabir. In all his debates I notice he always likes to correct his opponents by giving his own favorable interpretations. That's about it esp. on qur'anic verses. His views however are at odds with the approach of every major fiqh, both Sunni and Shi'ite, all of which accept the principle of naskh, or abrogation, as the means of resolving apparent contradictions between portions of the Qu'ran. Verses understood to have been revealed to Mohammed later in time are regarded as abrogating contradictory verses "reveal" earlier in time, and unfortunately for the world, the peaceful, no-compulsion verses were written when Mohammed had not yet established himself as a successful warlord, while the verses about fighting against unbelievers and executing apostates were written after he started having military success.
Had Islam developed a hermeneutics on a similar basis to that prevalent in Christianity, summed up by the Anglicans as expound not one part of scripture in a manner repugnant to another, it would be a very different religion. Instead, jihad as actual warfare against non-Muslims, is central to its doctrine and praxis, thanks to the hermeneutic of naskh.
