    Upgrading hardware always makes me faster too but I think it’s mainly down to the ‘I’ve just spent a shitload of money on this new wheel so I’m just gonna keep lapping until I go half a tenth quicker so I can justify this purchase to myself (and wife/partner)” mindset 🤣

    I have to say man I feel like I’ve reached a plateau with my logitech gear. I almost feel like that I’ve outgrown it and now I’m losing lap time because of all these things you’re talking about. Now granted I’m not sitting here saying I’m a professional. I just really love racing and I feel like better equipment can make you more consistent. The biggest thing for me with the Logitech is, I have never felt completely confident under braking. It’s always kind of a crapshoot.

    I use to teach snowboarding and occasionally you'd get a student that had all the gear and no idea.
    But once they got good, the gear then allowed them to progress faster.
    I'm gonna guess this is the same, even a beginner will benefit from better gear.

    I upgraded to a moza r5 after about a year with a g29. Already had a set of load cells so I got the r5. Doesn't make me a ton faster but it does make me more consistent, especially with the 911. The g29 didn't really tell me when I was losing grip so I'd lose the rear. With the r5 now the 911 is my favorite gt3.

    For me it made a pretty big difference, I used to run nord all day on the g920 I’ve had for 5 years, just last week I got a fanatec csl dd and a next level cockpit, first night I dropped my lap record by 10 seconds from 7:00 to 6:50 and I’ve gotten even faster since then, not only that but I’m much more consistent and smooth, and It’s also made me see ALOT of issues in my driving that I somewhat knew were there but didn’t know the cause, and fighting traffic or fighting for positions especially against ai. Now that I feel like I won’t be a nuisance to other people I’m gonna start online racing

    Agreed. It will make you faster if you have higher end sim racing equipments. I used DD1 and stucked to a lap. And when I plugged the Simucube 2 Pro just 3 laps I got 2 seconds less from my PB. And amazed by the details from DD1 to Simucube 2 Pro. Higher equipments will make you faster

    You said you wouldn’t go in to the elite level gear, but then your final shot blatantly shows some of the most top level stuff I’ve ever seen! Granted, it’s no stuffed crust, but man… that’s some serious wheel you got there ❤

    First kit I bought was a thurstmaster tmx had it for years. And upgraded to Fanatec csl elite kit and the details really came alive. And the now with a dd2 and sprints there is so much more detail. Definitely improved with every upgrade.

    Have been using a thrustmaster tx since 2014, upgraded my pedals to Asetek invicta when they launched them and once dialled in my lap times improved and my overall consistency improved,
    My Tx died in November last year and I am now very nearly at the point of buying a direct drive wheel and rig from Sim demon.

    Tbh I did improve my consitency and time with better equipment. We all have different senses and we all look for different details. When I moved to my simagic ultimate firdt night in I set 3 lap records my final one was an entire second faster. I could feel the edge of grip way more. The wheel would snap when I made a mistake. I could push the limits more. Its like adding haptics good ones not bad ones to your pedals. It helps tell you where your braking point is. Knowing when you are on the edge of lockup and when you are on the edge of throttle control. I've absolutely found improvements on almost every upgrade I've made. This whole thing by will and others who state it won't make you faster but will make you more consistent. I'm like dude that means you are fatser. It means your laps will be consistently better which translates inpt being faster and your end time being better.
    Then people go well peoope can br fast on logitech. Yes peolle that have sim raced for 10 to 15 years and are really good purely from practice will be fast af. But even they would be that much better with more advanced equipment.
    Pedlas will always be the most important upgrade. I suggest anybody with money to test some sets out and find what they like the feel of most. Or do a ton of research and think about what you want to feel and find the set that gives you that.

    I started with mid-level equipment (TM T818 & T-LCM). They were good but did not accurately provide a realistic driving experience. Upgraded to Asetek Invicta pedals and braking was now like real braking. Upgraded again to an Asetek Forte wheelbase and wheel. The difference was night and day from the TM. The Asetek feedback and accuracy changed my experience from gaming to driving.

    Very well said! My buddy has a killer rig. Started with a T150 and then 300. Currently running the R9. My next upgrades are about having headroom for my wheel base to not have clipping and a chassis so I can focus on driving. Keep up the killer content!

    Great video, and this is so true. One take I see often on reddit is the "if you don't like simracing with a G29 you won't like it with high end gear, therefore everyone should start with a G29".
    I love driving cars, and I decided to get into simracing in 2020. I bought a G923, thought I would do this cheaply. Absolutely could not stand the thing, and it was nothing like driving a real car. It was slow, noisy and weak, and I could not drift with it despite being a competent drifter in real life. I returned it immediately and considered just dropping the idea. Then I bought a Fanatec ClubSport v2.5 and was amazed by how much better it was than the G923. Upgraded to a GT DD 8Nm base in 2022, and now in 2024 I got the Asetek Invicta base. Every step has been a fantastic upgrade in terms of fidelity and enjoyment, and I am faster than ever. Partly because of the equipment, and partly because I just enjoy driving and therefore spend more time on the (virtual) track.

    It’s not obvious… more expensive is not always better. I improved my driving a lot (Monza on ACC from 1:52 to 1:51, I know - nothing special; I just started with simracing) simply by changing pedals from Fanatec V3i to Asetek Forte. More effort by getting the equipment which is proper for you and your driving preferences. Asetek’s pedals are super for GT and F1, might be worse for rally…

    The hardware upgrade is great if you have a proper sim rig/cockpit to fit it to, I started with a Logitech G29 on a simple wheel stand but the stand kept moving during braking, moved up to a GT Omega Titan with a T-GT and T-LCM pedals with a couple of different wheels, now I’m into sim racing and driving I’ve moved up to a Fanatec Podium DD 1 and V3 pedal set along with the GT Omega Prime Cockpit even gone from PS4 to PC With triple screens having started with the basics I’m happy with my set up and putting in constantly good lap times yes I’m still learning but having a solid rig and wheel base with pedals makes a difference to how better I get

    Unpopular opinion: 1) the driver who is matched to a preferred setup is better than an equal driver who's using 'better" equipment but not as well matched to it.
    2) same 2 drivers: triple monitor w/CSL set is not as good as the G923 w/ VR setup.
    Granted that is just 1 driver's view.

    Hmmm - 2 years ago I went from a T300 and T3PA pedals to Simucube 2 pro and Heusinkveld Sprints, and lost 2 seconds of which I've only recovered about 0.7 seconds. So I'm still a net 1.3 down on the cheap gear.

    • @texnorthman
      @texnorthman 6 месяцев назад

      That's pretty unusual. Curious what sim this was in? I swapped from CSL DD 8Nm and V3 pedals to Asetek Invicta wheelbase and SimGrade VX-Pro pedals and I was on par with previous times during the first day and now I have taken many many seconds off those times in ACC. Not easy to tell how much of that is me getting better and how much is the wheel giving me better feedback, but still, going slower than before after such a long time is unusal.

    • @slaphead90
      @slaphead90 6 месяцев назад

      @@texnorthman Well i'm not fast, but back in the early days of ACC I could consistently get into the low 1:24s or high 1:23s around Brands Hatch. Now with new kit I'm lucky to consistently get into the upper 1:25s.

    • @texnorthman
      @texnorthman 6 месяцев назад

      @@slaphead90 That seems very odd. If you could set a 1:23.xxx with the old kit you must know the track well, and know the lines. It's a tricky track, but getting knocked back almost 2 seconds sounds like you might actually have some dead-zone issues or something, you sure the car isn't dragging on its brakes through the circuit?

    • @robertisler8557
      @robertisler8557 6 месяцев назад

      It‘s usual to loose some time when made changes to the gear. Your muscle memory has to get used to the new environment. But after some time you should be at least more consistent. Think your wheel / paddles are not configured correctly. Check your input data, as mentioned above and also check the correct FFB setting. There are a lot of videos for all kind of wheelbases and game combinations.

    • @slaphead90
      @slaphead90 6 месяцев назад

      @@texnorthman I definitely don't have any deadzone issues, other that the deadzones that I've set on the pedals just to ensure I don't brake drag. In fact I've just pulled up a Motec of one of my latest sessions and there's no brake dragging going on, other that what I've done deliberately to stabilise the car through high speed sweepers like Paddock Hill and Hawthorns.
