    That was a neat trick leave with a Nuffield and return and it a Massey 135 magic. I have a Massey 35 Deluxe, use it for blowing snow and grading drive ways. I only have half an acre so it doesn't get a lot of work but we are available if someone needs us. Beautiful countryside, love seeing the Nuffield working, I haven't driven a Nuffield since 1973. Great video thanks.

    Your hay making is a lot different than in the states. You also mix in the old with the new but the end product is the same. Your right it is timeless families getting together going all out to beat the weather just to have food for the cattle. I miss haying coming in for dinner the newer machine has put an end to the crews putting hay up but thanks for sharing your a good influence on dad he's come a long way from when you first started his knowledge and wisdom need to be preserved .

    • @j1mmusj4mmus
      @j1mmusj4mmus 4 года назад

      Yes , when you have 50 sheep and a dozen cattle with calves the big bales will keep them fed without taking too much time, but with lambing pens, and feeding a little to special cases small bales are invaluable.

    It seems hay making is rather cut and dried.
    We used to make the square bales. It was a chore to pick them up and stack them on a trailer. Then drive to the barn, unload them, and stack them again. Hay dust and hot weather did not make for a good time.
    It is a feeling of satisfaction to know you can feed your animals through the winter after all that work though.

    The haybob type of machine is still a very good reliable all rounder.
    Using contractors suits your farming system but might not suit others, having their own equipment and doing it themselves might be better system.
    Wrapping bales uses quite a lot of plastic.
    The growing awareness of the environmental issues associated with plastic, clamped silage may be the future.
    Keep the videos coming, I don’t think you have shown any chain harrowing or rolling videos?

      Actually I haven’t had time yet to make the scones I’m in the middle of a house remodel.. sun up to sundown.. I know you know what that’s like at the end of the day it’s a sandwich, shower and off to bed .my adult career was in building and now I can’t seem to get away from it . Anyway hope you have a wonderful week Joanna

    We get fusion bales. Additive, chopping and six wraps. These days, due to getting on for 80, we get a contractor in to mow with front and side mowers and then he makes rows as you do to make good even bales. I prefer haylage because you don’t get the fust and dust you get with hay that can cause lung problems. The bales go to a dairy farmer who is particular in what he feeds his calves and dry cows.

      Hey wendy yes the dust free haylage wrapped is wonderful. Our hay is pretty good this year we are happy with it! I love opening a bale and the scent x

      Dale Farm we just get the lovely aroma when the sun shines on the bales waiting for the buyer to take them, but it is still heady. If only they could make perfume like it.

    Hi, nice video. Your haymaking is much like ours, a mixture of old and new. I was particularly interested to see that your father has a Zagavolter haybob - it's the only one that I've seen apart from ours! Can you ask your father where he buys his spare parts from.

    • @DaleFarm

    You have red diesel. Years ago we had that too in Holland. Red was for farmers, because there was less taxes to pay for. Is that in the uk also,nowdays ? X

      U.S. has same thing and hopefully you don't get caught with it in your vehicle. Interesting side on wartime video it shows in ww2 the would run dyed fuel through bread and that took the dye out making it ok for regular people to have it

    • @wendyrowland7787
      @wendyrowland7787 4 года назад +1

      Lawrence Kieffer Irish farm fuel is green, the leprechauns come in the night and strain it through fullers earth to get rid of the dye. I am English by the way so it could just be hearsay.

    Had a Nuffield 460 I think it was , when I was a kid in NZ, very light in the front, and with a tray load of hay on the back, to go feed out, Dad would have a couple of us kids sit on the front, to stop her lifting the front wheels off the ground , on the hills, 1960s no health and safety then, I learned to drive a tractor on her
