Seventh Toa - A BIONICLE Documentary

- Опубликовано: 8 окт 2024
- In 2001, a series of leaks within the Bionicle community began to appear, claiming that a seventh protagonist named "Voriki" would be arriving soon. And though those leaks turned out to be fake, the legacy Voriki has left behind has more than made up for it.
(Also, weird note, but I realized too late that the background music is bizarrely quiet without headphones. So if it matters to you, I'd recommend using some!)

So hecking underrated comment…
😮
Voriki.... hated by everyone, abandoned by his creator, and yet, he persist. Truly a strong character.
This was great, I honestly didn't know there was so much to Voriki's conception, I always assumed he was like those different "leaked" sets, not something meant for a contest.
Yeah, I was honestly surprised by that too! I found that out near the later end of my research, so it was quite the shock!
I... never put 2 and 2 together that the Vo prefix was a tribute to him. Wow.
Well, in fairness, we don't know for certain that it was. Greg claims it came from the word "Volts," but he at the very least KNEW who Voriki was by that point, so it's certainly possible!
Greg doesn't do a particularly good job of keeping track of things _he_ made, there's a reason some of the lore changes have been called "Forgetcons", it's most likely the homage was unintentional.
If it _was_ intended, I wager "Vo" might've been given to the Gravity element, which shares his colour scheme too, and could be another way of interpreting the "Energy" element.
What if I say bionicle was truly born when Voriki was born, he was the first step towards something more, towards bringing bionicle into a state when it's self-sustained by the fanbase to a point when set lines will be produced by community instead of lego.
I couldn't help but return to bionicle throughout years, I never had that with dozens other franchises I liked as a kid, not with superheroes, not with power rangers, not with star wars, even my teenage favourites like warhammer are mostly despised by me nowdays... But bionicle somehow remains.
Honestly, that's certainly a fair viewpoint! Bionicle definitely wouldn't be around in the way it is today without such a supportive, creative community, and Voriki is a huge part of that!
"What I see are people inspired by each other and by you, taking what you made and making...something new out of it." - Emmett, _The LEGO Movie_
I hadn't thought about Voriki in years until that Reviving Bionicle episode. The second I saw him, a wave of nostalgia flooded my very soul, and I lost my mind.
I'm glad he lives on in the collective consciousness of the fandom.
Voriki is real to us, he is our Bionicle, he is the embodiment of all Bionicle original characters we though of as a child, all the new characters we built and the stories we made up for them while playing with Bionicle sets and pieces on a quiet summer afternoon, all those years ago. Unity Duty Destiny.
PD: Awesome work dude, keep it up.
Voriki is basically the main reason why my self moc is who they are, without Voriki I probably wouldn't have made my self moc a toa of lightning, and made the dumb mistake of thinking the prefix for lightning was Va instead of Vo and making it my name. This video was extremely well made and I love how Voriki's story was told here, thanks and I'm now a subscriber to your channel.
Thank you! That's a really fun story, I love hearing more about how Voriki impacted people in the fandom!
I liked the idea of thinking that voriki could be seen as something official and that motivated me to draw it as if it were part of a comic, or a character presentation
Voriki is not just a “MOC” or a “Hoax”, he’s a symbol for us fans as creators.
no he is a moc, not a set and not a hoax
@@KnightedSilverWolfAre you that dense.
Don't have the time to fully watch this right now (it's finals week) but anybody who can make a 30 minute documentary about such a niche subject deserves congratulations in my book. Looking forward to taking a closer look at this later.
Thanks, I appreciate it! And I totally get the finals week thing. Funny enough, this documentary WAS the final for my Documentary Filmmaking class, so I'm right there with you.
We need to revive Voriki. As Odin said, 'Asgard is not a place. It's a people' Bionicle should be the same. As a kid born after the cancellation of Bionicle, I still cried when I watched the video. Long Live BIONICLE!
Long Live BIONICLE!
We should make it like the SCP foundation, it'll be like a collaborative fiction project.
@@ScrimmyBingus42 hmm sounds good
Despite being a Bionicle fan since 2003, I hadn't really heard about Voriki's history. All I knew was that he was a popular fake. This was an excellent chronicle and retrospective, with very well high production value.
Great job, and thank you for making this, it makes me feel more connected to the Bionicle community! ^_^
Voriki, the Bionicle that will never die. Because the fans will never forget.
This kind of thing is why I love this community. It's all about creativity and having fun.
I didn't join the BIONICLE fandom until around 2007. My first exposure to Voriki was actually an online compilation/meme displaying a full team of Toa + their seven member.
The Nuva had Takanuva
The Metru had Lhikan
I can't remember who the Hordika had but I recognized them at the time
The Inika had either Axonn or Jovan
The Mahri had Lesovik
And I'm 90% sure the Adaptives had Ignika, but it might have been Twilight Takanuva.
The only seventh member I didn't recognize was for the Toa Mata. It was a strange purple mask that looked like a Pakari. At first I thought it was Onepu, but on closer inspection it was a little more warped with lightning like protrusions.
Since then I picked up bits and pieces about the character over the years, and he's grown near and dear to my heart. I definitely noticed an influx of memes about him during the reboot.
As mentioned in this video, in a way Voriki could be canon, but it goes deeper than that.
Black and purple are colors worn by Toa of Earth and Toa of Gravity.
As suggested by the Kanohi Garan, and confirmed by Greg Farshtey, masks with Elemental Powers exist.
The physical appearance of the Great and Noble Masks of Lightning are unknown.
Masks can be forged/reforged into custom shapes, such as with the Hagah.
It's not uncommon for two masks to look very similar, such as Masks of Corruption and Scavenging, or the Mask of Charisma and Adaptive Hau Nuva.
As awkward as Voriki's elements may initially seem, a BIONICLE with purple armor, lightning powers, and a Pakari-like mask are entirely lore-friendly. In a perfect world, he could be canon.
I never honestly knew about Voriki. Despite getting into the series at the end of its run and looking back at the old comics and lore, I never knew about him, even as G2 concept art came out about him. Reviving Bionicle gave me his introduction and I loved it. This video really does help bring him out into a better spotlight from his beginning to present time. Thank you man, I don't think I wouldn't have known so much if it weren't for this. I wouldn't have known so much about the first 7th toa. Thank you.
As someone who got into Bionicle due to the movies and the story, I never knew Voriki existed until Bionicle Revival. The character kinda fascinated me the more I looked into him, so much so I put my own iteration of him in my Bionicle G2 fanfic sequel. Really goes to show, like you said, how fans can take the strangest bit of lore, story, MOCs, etc. and run with it.
I'm feel amazed that this community had really still been so active and creative throughout the years, way more than I was expecting.. I always wondered about it and, remembered Bionicle fondly before.
Now I'm very excited to start looking up fan content along with the official stuff.
Fans aren't just fans, they're Creators themselves
Dude. This is so good. I can't even imagine how much effort you put into making this freaking 30-minute documentary.
I especially loved how all the title cards had shots of the Toa, and then for chapter seven it's Voriki.
Well freaking done dude.
Thank you so much! That means a lot, I'm really glad you liked it! (And yeah, I'm pretty proud of that seventh chapter thing too!)
I was born in 2007, and I didn’t really get to see much of the big glory days of Bionice and Voriki, but glad that this is here to teach me about it!
I played the games, (not on pc) and loved and still can enjoy some bionicle! But yeah, amazing video! Insanely well done
Voriki is the secret hero of matu nui, he may not get the recognition he deserves but he keeps on going.
I like to think of him as the seventh toa MATA
while takanuva is the seventh toa NUVA
That doesn't really work, as despite having Nuva armor Takanuva isn't actually a Toa _Nuva,_ except honorary by association with the Toa Nuva. He never actually underwent the transformation that the Toa Mata did. If anything, his appearance suggests that when a Matoran becomes a Toa, their Toa form is actually based on the Matoran's perception of what a Toa is (with the exception of the Inika since they're a bit of an unusual type of Toa), and for Takua, that would have been the Toa Nuva. If Takua had transformed on Metru Nui during the City of Legends arc, he'd probably resemble a Toa Metru, Mangi or Haga instead, and if he hadn't transformed until Voya Nui, he'd probably resemble a Toa Inika.
I would think of Voriki as being another Toa of the "Toa Mata" type, but not one of the actual Toa Mata. He'd be a solo Toa, kinda like Helryx, or Lhikan after his team fell apart.
Man, I remember visiting that old Voriki site in 2004, and this really took me back. Awesome documentary, dude! Really well researched and paced.
That's super cool! That website really is a treat. And thank you, I really appreciate it!
It's funny hearing all theses stories 20 years later. I've been collecting Bionicle since 2000 *BUT* I was entirely unaware of the online community. None of this wild stuff or even the deeper lore got through to me until quite recently.
I'm in this!
Heck yeah you are! Thanks so much for being a part of this!
Seeying Voriki as the 7th Toa when i didnt knew nothing about Bionicle (not came in 2001 but time after that) made me feel like we need Purple Toa in Bionicle... and that was one of the reasons why i love the purple color, even my Self-Moc is purple too
As someone who wasn't aware of this, it's interesting to hear about Bionicle OC's that were created at the series start(even if Voriki looks like the Bionicle version of Coldsteel The Hedgehog), Takanuva is my favorite Toa so I'm kinda happier with what we officially got in terms of a 7th Toa ark.
*BRUH I REMEMBER THIS OMG* Legit LOVE this video because it's such a trip down memory lane. I remember this whole thing back in the early days of the internet, before fact checking and Wiki and social media. So glad I came across this video. :)
Very well done. I remember when I was 6 years old in 2001 and was dying to have a Tahu Bionicle, because I thought a robot surfing on lava with a stone in the commercial during SpongeBob was cool. ( I would eventually collect all 6 original Toa [+Takanuva and the Big Bad Makuta]). I had the Bionicle Movie Mask of Light on VHS and I would honestly re-watch it for the OST. Learning about the earlier days of the internet and forums along with the Bionicle community is very nostalgic. Honestly this is therapeutic. This brings me back. Thank You. I appreciate this video and your work that was put in to make this video. I love the Time Before Time.
Great video man! As someone who has been with this franchise since the beginning (and currently edits documentaries for a living), this was a really fun and nostalgic viewing experience for me! Really nice job on the research and interviews dude
Okay but this is amazing! Like- just wow. Great job dude. I’m really impressed.
Thanks a ton! I'm really stoked to hear that!
I will be totally honest… I did not know this character existed. But I independently thought up a lightning element bionicle (with a different color palette) and that just shows how awesome the fandom is.
Well said!! I love the points raised, the editing on the interviews, and the musical selection! It all added up to a very thought-provoking and inspiring experience for me! Thank you for sharing your work!!
That was enlightening, honestly everything this community makes and does is just fantastic and inspiring and I love it. Long Live Bionicle.
Well put together video.
Although at times a bit drawn out (I think there could have been less chapters) it’s nonetheless great look into the Bionicle community. Bionicle may be over,, there may never be new offices content from LEGO, but it’s community and legacy will never really disappear.
Please make more documentaries like these about Bionicle. This was amazing to watch, especially the end. I love this community so much
I second this, more Bionicle documentaries like this would be fantastic!
Voriki have his own known your meme entry:0
Yeah, it's great! It gets a bit of information wrong, but it was really helpful while doing research nonetheless!
I can never get enough of these binonicle documentary videos.
Fantastic video! This is exactly the kind of beautiful stuff I could see myself writing up out of my own deep passion for this franchise! Super high quality!
Fantastic documentary, that was a joy to watch! I loved hearing about Voriki's creation in detail. Only in 2001 would Lego host a Bionicle website creation contest! XD Well done on making such a well-polished production and tying together Voriki's legacy with what makes Bionicle and its community so special
I remember being a big fan of Bionicle as a kid, but I never even engaged with the fandom back then nor did I even know of this hoax Toa, I always figured the 7th Toa was the golden/yellow one from the first movie.
This was my favorite toy as a child. Easily the greatest toy released by Lego.
Okay, I just clicked this thinking I'd get a laugh from a "oh yeah, I remember this."
....
I didn't expect to get watery-eyed at the end.... Like, Goddamn that kinda hit me in the feels....
Thank you! I have been with Bionicle since the very beginning, but all offline via the Lego Club magazine and books. I had never heard of Voriki until well after 2015 ended, and trying to understand what exactly he was and why he was apparently canon??? But I had never heard of him?? But everybody else knew about him?? Was a nightmare. Your very well made documentary helped ease my confusion and appreciate this piece of history!
I'm glad I could help! Thanks for sharing your story!
well this made me understand where Voriki came from, I never heard of him until g2 and now I know about him just that much more, thank you for making this video about Voriki.
Voriki could easily be a Toa of Gravity using the mask of lightning. The Bionicle universe is so vast only part of it was explored in the serials and books, most islands and characters remain unknown, so there's nothing preventing us to head-canon him as the spirit of Gravity from an island located in the right arm of the GSR or wherever. F*ck it, it's my headcanon now.
If Lego ever brings back Bionicle, unlikely though that is, I _demand_ Voriki being made official this time.
Such a great analysis! Ironically enough, it's not "only" Voriki, but videos like these, that make the legend alive! Thank you!😁
He’d low key be a goated gwp in gen 3 style for bionicles
It’s not just six heroes one destiny it seven heroes one destiny in the very beginning in 2001 with all the elements Fire,stone,earth,air,ice,water,…….. and lightning.
Great video!!! Really good job.
Thank you!
As someone who's been a HUGE bionicle fan since day 1, I've literally never heard of this character lol.
IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!
man, you're good at making documentaries. Well done man !
A couple of years back, I made my own Toa Voriki model. But I used a torso and feet from Shapeways rather than spraypaint the existing ones.
He's energy incarnated.
As a young foreign fan of Bionicle that was bad in English, I only got to see the photoshopped picture, but knew nothing else about it. Really how you presented it all, great job!
I've never heard of Voriki until maybe a week or so ago, and I was into Bionicle since the very beginning. In a way it reignites the mystery of g1's beginning, in which nothing was certain as to the nature of the setting. It's nice to discover a seventh toa before the seventh toa
ooh what a fancy thumbnail! i’m gonna share this video with all my friends!
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Imagine an alternate world where Teridax turns Ahkmou into a toa, drains him of light turning him into a shadow toa (might explain the colors) and sends him to join and fool the toa mata under the false name "Voriki", leading "Voriki" to join Pohato in the search for the missing Ahkmou, Voriki even planting false remains, and setting up an entire journey for him and Pohato to "find what killed Ahkmou and get rid of it" in order to grow close to Pohato, and gain his trust, Pohato defending him against the other toa's, and the turaga's distrust of him
just a random idea that popped into my head within the first minute of the video, no idea why my brain is like this OOf
perhaps his end goal would be learning the location of the Avohkii, and getting rid of it, in order to prevent the true seventh toa from occuring, and thus protect his master from the only toa able to defeat him
Edit: just finished the video, reviving bionicle did it perfectly, wow
true perfection
Sometimes i wish i was born in 1991, just to be 10 years old when bionicle started and grow up properly with them
Reviving Bionicle Voriki is my head canon.
SO WAITT your telling me people in 2003 were making detailed fan characters ? with such high quality, god the internet is just crazy the more you learn.
i found voriki from reviving bionicle (and got into bionicle itself because of that series!) and this video just made me love him more. ive always related to him specifically in reviving bionicle, he was such an intresting and relatable character, and as someone whos been on the internet since i was a kid his actual story, of being a leak and becoming a fanmade and fanloved character through the entire fanbase just feels... very nostalgic? i dont know, im rambling, but i enjoyed this video a lot, super good watch and made me enjoy a character i already loved, and understand the backstory on how he came to be better!! (also, im definitely going to do my part and create fanart of him as soon as i get the chance hehe)
Man I remember Bionicle. Such fond memories of watching Toonami while building and playing with Bionicle same with Zoids.
This video did really well. I guess I should share my story on how I found out about Voriki since other people are lol. I gotten into Bionicle in 2003 and till 6 years later I found out about Votiki and his cult following. I’ve been thinking of typing my own version of the Bionicle series a year before I discovered him and when I did in 2009, I wanted him to be the leader of the revamped version of the Toa Mata. If I remembered right, I was gonna make him a dreamer and ambitious but reckless but I scraped the idea with the story in whole. But maybe one day I would return and make my own version of the Bionicle story and use Voriki as the main character with a different personality.
Great video. Didn't expect the feels to hit so hard.
That's one dramatic documentary for Bionicle Purple Guy.
So much work for such little views you are a great RUclipsr so keep working and doing your best to become successful

Oh hey, thank you so much! It's really cool to see you here!
Voriki was the reason bionicle became special to me when I saw him I was like I need this set but when I heard he was fake I cried so much luckily 3d printing exists but I don't own one but I really want to 3d print to this day even bionicle is not that special anymore also made me think if he ain't real ima make my own non cannon toa his name was new Zealand what the people called the steel

additionally id like to ask permission to use some of the information you presented in this video for a future video on the amaja nui tales lore channel.

you, are the most talented, most interesting, most extraordinary person in the universe, and you are capable of amazing things, because you are the special, and so am I, and so is everyone. the seventh toa is made up, but it's also true. it's about all of us, and right now, it's about you, and you still, can change everything.
I’ve been with Bionicle since the beginning, and I’ve always thought Voriki was just a blip online during the early years… but I’m coming to see he’s much more. I don’t know him, but I want to.

Funny enough, I actually did a video on Good Guy a few years ago! As far as quality goes, it's a bit dated, but it actually covers a lot of the set's history!

So why was there no mention of the fact that Ekimu in his toa form, is not only the 7th toa, but has the element of Lightning? If that wasn't a Voriki reference, idk what is.
...because Ekimu wasn't a Toa of Lightning. He was a Toa of Light, same as Takanuva.
@@Wixhael Oh sure, and like all toa of light, he had lightning swirling all over him and his armor was electric blue and energized.
I know he was the toa of light, but he had a lot of electric elements to him and his promotional material.
This is one of the best videos I've seen about bionicle. Do you have plans for future Bionicle documentaries?
There is no Easter Bunny,
There is no Tooth Fairy.
And there is no Toa Voriki.
This DESERVES a Letterboxd entry
Apparently, someone's already started working on one!
Honestly, Bionicle wasn't ready to come back out unless they made Voriki an official set. He's extremely underrated and not alot of people know about him. His origins seem to be from the Mctoran as they were called. There is a purple one you can get which is strangely similar to the mask Voriki was based off of. I had heard Voriki was sold at Toys R Us but that was not true so maybe if they ever come back out with Bionicle LEGO will see how popular he is among the community now that the fans they had who are all mostly parents themselves now would gladly encourage their kids to buy Bionicles as I know I would.
Just to note, Voriki's color scheme is also canon, just for a different element. Purple and Black is the color scheme for gravity.
And that would mean that a canon version of Voriki would be a Toa of Gravity.
beautiful video, looking forward to more of your work
people can scan the parts they already have with the 3D printers an create more parts as far as i know they didn't think about the scanning of parts that some one owns already being 3D printed
They should add him to the fan-made games!
What is truly real?
That which cannot die, and that which can only die by its own will.
as someone who discovered Voriki after takanuva was already released I always though Voriki and the Vo matoran were unused concepts from thwe creators of bionicle, and that the few moatoran with purple parts like Onepu were remneants of that.
as someone who always loved purple I so wanted them to actually release more purple bionicle parts, even if it was just for me to add to my own toa MOC that used the only official purple mask
it was only later I learned Voriki was a hoax leak by fans, but that only gave me hope they'd eventually make unoffical parts for him.
I'd never heard of Voriki before, but I remember hearing about the Vo- prefix.
I also recall that vo-matoran (and by extension, vo-toa) were supposed to be female, like the ga-matoran
