Here's the truth dudes: there really aren't any bands like them. Very good bands like Meshuggah only come up once in a blue moon, and they're good because they do their own thing, and don't really sound like anyone else. This band is very heavy and technical, but they're not obsessed with being heavy, nor too mathy, fast, or random. They just make stuff that sounds fucking cool. Incredible musicians.
There is nothing technical about what they do. I'm sorry. I learned songs my first year of guitar more technical than Meshuggah songs. This band is a rythmic one, not focused on lead skill and thats fine. I love Meshuggah. But please don't think they're in anyway technical lol
Nothing technical? You mean to tell me that you could grab a couple of hacks on their instruments and play Future Breed Machine together no problem? I'd say they're pretty technically sound.
ChipmunkAsylum Since I've been playing music for awhile that revolves around odd meters and poly rhythms and so on and the other "hacks" where also as familiar with it, I would say we could figure it out with ease. It may seem difficult if you're not used to it, but eventually you get used to 9/16 and 3/2s as if they were 4/4. The other bits would take practicing, but thats with any song played by an entire band. Since most of Meshuggah's songs tend to revolve around one riff, once you have that down you are 85% done with the song. The rest would just be building up the stamina of playing that same thing repetitively desperately waiting for something to change in the song. I love meshuggah, but I personally can't stand playing repetition. That would be the hardest part, because it's so easy. Nothing against Meshuggah, the band doesent get together to write difficult music.
Mike Scanlan there is nothing technical?....so for a man that was at the time playing the drums for at least 20 years having to take 3 months just to learn one song (Bleed) isn't a technical thing to do?

Do you noticed the dual voice sound that Jens does in the chorus? Two separated notes (the low from gutural, the high from mouth modulation) that come together in the final "DAMNED". The band is a masterpiece.

Man, the artistry of the songwriting and lyricism together in this song is INCREDIBLE. To the critics who can't understand - learn to appreciate concepts like consonance and alliteration with the crushing rhythm in this track. "A SONIC DECLARATION OF SPITE." Wow.
I don't normally comment on music vids, but when I do it's for the undeniably heaviest fucking band on the planet. Meshuggah is by far the heaviest band on this planet.
Car bomb, Frontierer, *Methwitch* are all quite heavier. Meshuggah is like above-avarage among heavy bands. It's on that level, where many "normies" still can listen to it, and all the other bands I've named are not Edit: not that it's a bad thing
just bass and drums aswell as the bits of atmossphere, but 3:48 has to be one of my favorite moments in Meshuggah history... it just grinds through your brain like a steaming hot drill through butter
Jens voice might be the same for most of their songs, but the name is a yiddish word for insane. Its like his voice is echoed from the subconscious veils of our mind. The shadow slipping into the conscious plane.
probably their best song to listen to in all 3 play speeds. Normal, 1.25, and 1.5. Completely different songs. I hope each play gives them a credit to another view..
I always mean to get around to attempting it but then I realize how much hard work it is to perfect and memorize all the rhythmic modulation and I just give up.
***** Rhythmic displacement is kinda a double-edged sword. On one hand, it makes it really easy to map out a head-bobber, but also extremely difficult to pull off correctly.
this was the first meshuggah song i ever heard and i was truly not prepared for how good the rest of their stuff is, if you havent listened to more i highly suggest doing it
This is the song that turned me into a Meshuggah fan. Before this, I was sort of viscerally aware of Bleed, but didn't care for the mechanical feel. But this? This album (Koloss) and their next one (Clockworks) have got such a groove, I just got sucked into their world and I'm quite happy to remain there, thank you very much :)
catch 33 my dude! it might take a few listens, and some of it is filler, but the juicy bits are some of the best meshuggah ever in my opinion! truly a masterpiece
> didn't care for the mechanical feel Wait for some 10-ish years, you will understand what's true musicianship, and you will appreciate Bleed as well as everything else that's worth it.
Like most Meshuggah songs, there are odd metre riffs over a very clear 4/4 foundation driven by the constant quarter note pulse that haake keeps on his hats / cymbals. The snare is usually (most songs) on the expected 3 of each bar. You can head bang to the quarter note or half not pulse and you will almost always line back up with the riffs. The beauty of this band's compositions, and one of the reasons why I like them so much, is that they think of time and riffs on a larger scale i.e. 8, 16, and 32 bars before things loop back around. They also manage to do this and make it seem complicated while making it sound natural and organic due to Haake keeping everything anchored with his quarter note pulse reference. Pure compositional genius, which finds itself grounded in very fundamental and basic key concepts. Hail Meshuggah
I‘ve been vacuuming the house and sweating like a pig, yet, at the same time going through repeated bouts of spiritual catharsis whilst listening to Meshuggah; thank you for the elevating bits of sublime art amidst my mundane triviality, dear Meshuggah!
The last part of the drum solo is so tricky, you have to make the alto Tom vibrate all the time at the same time when you hit the snare you should do it with both sticks, don't forget to match the right hand with bass drum, and of course every crash accent is played with double crashes, +the muted crash on the pauses, good luck
this video is great for this song. I can't think of a song more subtle, musically, and menacing than this song. almost like a tribal song from the depths of a psychedelic hell in my opinion.
It happened at Soundwave 2012 in Australia. I got concussed in a circle pit after colliding heads with a guy in a dinosaur onesie while they were playing this song.
This is probably their biggest riff. It makes you feel 5 feet taller and ripped to the point you muscles are breaking your shirt. Just feel the sludge moving through you, fuck yeah!!!!

Listen to thear first episode none. You think that was heavy. None sounds like dump trucks falling out of the sky and landing two inches from your face
This is literally the craziest song I've ever heard. The rhythmic pattern. Meshuggah as fuck.
Do you noticed the dual voice sound that Jens does in the chorus? Two separated notes (the low from gutural, the high from mouth modulation) that come together in the final "DAMNED". The band is a masterpiece.
I think Meshuggah has some of the most unique and easiest to understand vocals in metal.
Sounds like you need to listen to thrash metal! Demolition Hammer, Sadus etc etc
exordiumdeath no...we dont those bands are god awful but thank you. Tune into meshuggah whenever you like though!
IICAPTN
Sadus puts Meshugga under the table by far.
Haha, nice pun. Meshuggah is signed to Nuclear Blast Records. XD
Best vocalist in metal is Chuck Schuldiner
They are in a league of their own. Live they are absolutely phenomenal, so many musicians come to see them. Glad I had the chance to see them.😮
No other form of music out there can compare to the true art and science of metal.
+Jose Sanchez Have you heard Blotted Science?
I have not! I will look into that, thanks!
+Jose Sanchez
Have you tried blotters? They go very well with psychadelic djent.
your crazy there are multiple forms
+Jose Sanchez tip o the fedora to you m'lady
When the mind stops, consciousness is transcended, you realise the world in terms of mesuggah and everything in it.everything is mesuggah.everywhere but none
we should never have been able to reach this level of experience .... after all we are but mortals
Awesome song to jam out to while you're alone eating a frozen meal.
Meshuggah is the type of music that terrifies you and makes you uncomfortable. But at the same time you can't stop listening.
that's genuinely how i felt when i first discovered them with bleed, just couldn't stop coming back to it and now they're my favourites of all time
@@jaydenstrudel me with rational gaze. i was 12
Im too old, hearing this, go to my twentys at light speed! Brutal band!
Had to bust out a quick set of 10,000 pushups listening to this.
I'm gay so I think I could do that!
So this is what it's like to be crushed by a neutron star.
Yes! Thought the same one day
Underrated comment.
more like to crush one
Badass analogy, although technically speaking you'd be crushed under your own weight magnified 200 million times. Still badass, I'd say.
So much metal music but there’s truly just a handful that create greatness
like any genre I suppose ... like anything
People like things for different reasons , as long as it moves you ... it’s your good
I'm watching live video of a volcano devastating La Palma and listening to Meshuggah. It's the perfect match.
Weight lifting tune for Norse gods. Fucking perfection.
No matter what death metal/deathcore/slam I listen to, nothing will ever be heavier than this
I can't stop listening to this song, one of the best metal songs ever written. The groove is insane.
Meshuggah is the definition of Quality over quantity. 🔥🔥🔥
For a long time I only listened to rational gaze, bleed, and a few others, could never get into the bulk of their stuff..... then suddenly I realised while listening to new milleneum cyanide christ how much i love their sound
It's on that level, where many "normies" still can listen to it, and all the other bands I've named are not
Edit: not that it's a bad thing
Check out Vildhjarta
While most Meshuggah songs are my favourite song, I think this one is my most favourite out of all the favourites.
I hit the jackpot on tinder and met a girl who insisted on taking caps and debuting this album in the bedroom. Will never forget that night.
just bass and drums aswell as the bits of atmossphere, but 3:48 has to be one of my favorite moments in Meshuggah history... it just grinds through your brain like a steaming hot drill through butter
LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER
Jens voice might be the same for most of their songs, but the name is a yiddish word for insane. Its like his voice is echoed from the subconscious veils of our mind. The shadow slipping into the conscious plane.
Gojira and Meshuggah...thats the magic I hear everyday
normal people will never understand how incredible this is
Cool story
true.
normal people get it, weird people don't
Normal people can understand this smh
100%🤘
probably their best song to listen to in all 3 play speeds. Normal, 1.25, and 1.5. Completely different songs. I hope each play gives them a credit to another view..
Maaaaan, you've discovered the hidden Meshuggah dimensions... Thank you!
You'll not find many Meshuggah covers, if ever. they are difficult to time. this is their quality. Love this stuff!
***** Who ever said 'Shuggah tunes don't require technique? You're havin a laugh dood.
***** Sometimes "simplicity" can be deceptive.
***** Whatever you say Mr. Ubermensch.
It's crazy how meshuggahs music instantly puts you in a trance like no other.
People who come here often to re-read the comment section.
You are my brothers.
amen
HELLL YEAH BROTHER

Hell yeah

Relentless procession, clockwork behemoth, diabolic mechanism
1. Meshuggah rules
2. This song rules
3. This song title might be the greatest thing ever written
Me and my 5 year old rocking out to Meshugga?? Priceless!!!!
Meshuggah are amazing, only saw them once and it was brutal. One of my favorite band to work out on too.
How did just rediscover my favorite band?
Same here, literally.
This is one if the most beautiful songs ever written. The groove is hypnotic.
this was the first meshuggah song i ever heard and i was truly not prepared for how good the rest of their stuff is, if you havent listened to more i highly suggest doing it
I literally can not get enough of this song.
That guitar sounds like it's eating the speakers for a living!
David Simpson check out their song "abnegating cecity"
the album's name was The Violent Sleep of Reason ( Clockworks was a single and it was one of their finest products)
catch 33 my dude! it might take a few listens, and some of it is filler, but the juicy bits are some of the best meshuggah ever in my opinion! truly a masterpiece
> didn't care for the mechanical feel
Wait for some 10-ish years, you will understand what's true musicianship, and you will appreciate Bleed as well as everything else that's worth it.
All of Meshuggah is good. Their EP “None” released in 94 is amazing.
Life would be easier having a 9-5 job than being a guitarist or drummer for Meshuggah
You mean a twelve hour shift + weekends?
This is the most metal shit, and that’s coming from a blacksmith’s son. I see a lot of fuckin metal.
I‘ve been vacuuming the house and sweating like a pig, yet, at the same time going through repeated bouts of spiritual catharsis whilst listening to Meshuggah; thank you for the elevating bits of sublime art amidst my mundane triviality, dear Meshuggah!
this is the hardest song ever
This is so unique and awesome. Not many bands can accomplish this kind of originality and awesomeness at the same time. True legends.
The last part of the drum solo is so tricky, you have to make the alto Tom vibrate all the time at the same time when you hit the snare you should do it with both sticks, don't forget to match the right hand with bass drum, and of course every crash accent is played with double crashes, +the muted crash on the pauses, good luck
i have zero idea what you just said but it sounds difficult as shit
I've been playing drums for 2 days...I quit now. Thank you for showing me I was wasting my time.
i dont play the drums but thanks
this video is great for this song. I can't think of a song more subtle, musically, and menacing than this song. almost like a tribal song from the depths of a psychedelic hell in my opinion.
The simplicity in their guitars are what make it so heavy!
Lamb of God and Meshuggah please in 1 concert event!!!!!
It happened at Soundwave 2012 in Australia. I got concussed in a circle pit after colliding heads with a guy in a dinosaur onesie while they were playing this song.
Jack Blades haha I remember that guy in the dinosaur onesie.
+Jack Blades thats one for the ages ahahaha
Rajan Sanchez Fuck Yes Lamb Of God is my favorite band they kickass lml
Rajan Sanchez God i wish!
donde están los latinoamericanos fanáticos de meshuggah, reportense.
No.

esperando el reencuentro. Despues de 3 años hoy Meshuggah se presenta nuevamente en Chile. Allá estaremos !!!

Jens would kill the Ricola commercials "Riiiiiiiicola ......RRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIICOOOOLLLLLLAAAAAAA!"
Jens probably lives on throat lozenges.
This is probably their biggest riff. It makes you feel 5 feet taller and ripped to the point you muscles are breaking your shirt. Just feel the sludge moving through you, fuck yeah!!!!
