At the moment involved in a court case with a law firm that is charging a 6 figure fee, for looking into why one of their partners stole monies from numerous vulnerable adults! Can’t go into too much detail as criminal case as well. Just that we are refusing to pay, looking at their billing over the years, these vulnerable adults have been overcharged on everything!
Whenever an NDA like this pops up, you can almost be certain something very shady has been afoot.
Yup…big red flag.
So bottom line: This video cost you $1,000 to publish just so you could do the right thing. You're my hero!
Hahaha! Yes it did…my most expensive video ever!!!! (I feel like Mr. Beast 🤣🤣🤣)
This is so outrageous!!! I pray you get what you are owed! Thanks for the awesome art!
Thanks so much! 👍It definitely sucks but I’m hoping it will turn around with some of the steps I’m taking…just hate wasting the time (can’t get that back!)
Wow! This is pretty awful BeeJay. My heart goes out to you man.
To be taken advantage of by the people who are supposed to help keep you and your work protected. It’s a shame!
Thanks for sharing and spreading awareness.
I pray this works out in your favour.
Thanks so much- appreciate the support!!
Good for you BeeJay. This is the sort of issue that social media should be used for.
I have met very few decent people who are lawyers. Go get'em, BeeJay.
Hahaha! Thanks, man!
So sorry to hear this. Why can’t people just be ethical and do good work.
It’s sad when that’s not the case! Appreciate you watching!
BJD, thanks for sharing and so sorry this clusterf*&k has happened to you! I hope you feel good that you conducted yourself with a lot of integrity despite the frustrating circumstances.
I hope this doesn't put you off the path of growing your business. You give so much value and I hope you get everything you deserve and more 🙏🏾
Thanks so much! This business is definitely filled with learning at every turn and I’m glad I share some of that with everyone else!
My jaw at this point 6:00 😱
Thank you for always discussing the business side of and art business. I mean, there are so many art channels but so little people talking about the business itself.
Then the flat out audacity to send an NDA. Good on you for pursuing this further and not backing down. I hope this comes to a justifiable conclusion for you.
Thanks for the support and kind words…I definitely like highlighting the business side of things to help other artists. The business part can be super tiresome and overwhelming, so it’s nice to be able to show everything…warts and all!
@@BeeJayDeL Absolutely! I love your art tutorials and other videos too.
I’m an adult learner picking up this passion I’ve had my whole life for the first time because I always thought you had to have a natural talent (then just make it better with practice).
But my kid has encouraged me to learn along side her and as she’s getting older I want to help foster her passion and talent into a career where she can do something she loves. We sit together following your tutorials, or others, reading art books together. It’s been great.
But the business videos are really helpful because I would have no clue how to lead her in the right direction otherwise.
Oh man this is so sad to hear. You have given away so much to this community.
Thanks, Bill! No good deed, right?!?
Dude, I am so sorry you have to go through this. Creatives have to protect themselves at every turn. Sucks, but that’s the reality. I hope this resolves itself quickly. Stay up!
Thanks man! You’re right…that is the reality. The joys of being a creative!!!
I watched this about 5 hours ago, and have been thinking on it.
Good for you to stand up to them.
My wife has worked for 5/10 of the best/biggest law firms in the USA (at their Tokyo Offices) over the past 25 years.
This is a CLASSIC, and VERY normal for law firms, way of over billing. Heck, the movie with Tom Cruise, "The Firm" is exactly about this.
AND many try pray on, as they see, "their weak customers" (as in you are an artist, they think you know nothing about law and billings)
Keep on with your pursuit of justice. They scammed you!! 100% they did.
Many law firms these days are just one step above "the mafia", and the protection rackets etc. But these law firms have influence of course in law courts in the area/state and know they can try outspend or out whit their "customers".
Be strong!
Haven’t watched that movie in years (maybe it’s time to revisit?) Thanks for the encouragement and support…I appreciate it!
Thanks for the heads up on this law firm and others like them
Wow its amazing how we can do most of the work and somehow people like that find a way to ruin our experiences that should be such a wonderful feeling. Glad you made it through and didnt take the money. Love your channel and i have your pro draw grip.
Thank you for this video.😊
My pleasure….thanks for watching!
BeeJay… this is a nightmare and I think we can all learn from your experience. The firm you dealt with gives all lawyers a bad name! Good for you, not taking their “offer…” Please updates us WHEN (not IF) this is resolved. And… love your little turtle. As always, thanks for sharing!
Thanks…I definitely keep ya updated!!!!
This is ridiculous. They're trapping you first and then they suck your blood as much as they can. I had similar problems in different cases with lawyers and I'm not sure you can get back anything from these hyenas but I wish you a skyrocket success in your business. Keep up the great work and good luck!
Thanks-definitely feels like an uphill battle but one worth fighting! Appreciate it!
Dang that sucks. Sorry you went through all this.
Thank you for sharing!!.. as a community we should always look out for each other. I hope the end result of all your filings is positive.
Oh wow! That’s local to me, good to know and avoid! Thanks for the heads up!
Glad to help!
I feel for you BeeJay, having had similar experience here in the UK. Without going into detail, I was billed £6500.00 by a law firm for what appeared to be just sending 5 or 6 short letters. I cancelled their services after they admitted that there was next to no hope of achieving what I had initially asked them to do. These people are money making machines, master salesman, they will bill you for every minute they spend on your job at a premium rate. Agreeing a fixed rate is always better than an open cheque book. Sorry you experienced this, you do so much great work for this community.
Oh man…that sucks too! Sorry to hear!
wow how awful, so sorry you had to go through this. So do you get a lawyer to sue that first lawyer?
Thanks…trying to go through other channels first so I don’t have to do that. Already wasted so much time!!!!
Talk about outrageous and unprofessional! I cannot understand how some people can be so dishonest. I am so sorry to hear this has happened to you. You will be in my prayers. By the way, I love your turtle!!
Wow what a crook. I'm sorry this happened to you and thank you for letting people know about them! I'm local to ohio about 30 mins from dayton.
Thanks…I’m finally starting to see where all of the lawyer jokes come from!
@BeeJayDeL when the husband and I were much younger and well did the dumb 20s we went to get our first lawyer and he was a complete nightmare. We dropped him thankfully.
Wow... That is some shady mess right there. I guess if your getting a lawyer you have to have another lawyer look over the first lawyers proposal. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure it will save someone else from the same nightmare you went through.
Hahaha! Very true!
OMG what a nightmare! IP laws are so overly complicated for absolutely no reason; especially when the fed offices are so slow and crappy follow through. Add sleezy lawyers to the mix and it makes it pure chaos. I'm sorry you went through that, but I'm so excited you're holding them accountable and reporting them!!! Lawyers are def something you need 7 pages of references for. Honestly, it's why big corps keep legal on staff vs. outsourcing. It's cheaper to just pay their salary and give them stock.
Damn dawg. Sick turtle, and screw those guys. Good call in using your platform to explain your experience
Thanks, man! Thanks for tuning in!
Omg I had to sign an nda just like that when I bought my home. It was basically do that and not say anything bad about (real estate company with a hot air balloon) or not get the house I spent 4 months in escrow hell to get.
Oh wow…that’s crazy! Never heard of that happening with real estate before!
It sounds more like extortion than overzealous billing. There's a big lack of ethics here. We often assume that lawyers would be honest by definition, but we sometimes discover the hard was it is not necessarily the case. Good luck
Very true…wish I could say otherwise, but here we are!
I live about an hour from dublin myself. Its actually nice to see an artist from my home state!
I am sorry thos happened to you though :/
👋👋👋
What tools!!! With how much work you already did, absolutely no excuse. Good for you not willing to lie down and take it.
Are there any artist-specific networking where we recommend reliable lawyers etc with media experience?
Laughing at the NDA they wanted you to sign. You are right about even if you got back every penny, it doesn't make up for time lost, wasted, and stress.
We didn't have this kind of issue yet, but we did got some issues too with of being rip off by people but not in this way. I hope for you will win this all back, but thank you for telling your story.
Thanks and sorry for your troubles too! Appreciate you watching!
I have a small eBay store, with products from China. One drawing was trademarked, and I didn't know about this. I had only 2 sales wit that product,10 USD profit. Now I have a lot of problems, my bank account is blocked... So trademarking is very unfair sometimes...
That’s why you have to do your research…not sure if you mean copyright instead of trademark, but honestly, if it’s not a frivolous one…this is exactly why they are necessary.
I know how you feel. I got taken to the cleaners having my logo made and website built and got taken for way more then we agreed on. It was an emotional roller coaster. Finally fired them and needed to pay again to get it actually up and running. Read reviews is my lesson learned from that situation.
Wow. Just wow. That law firm was ridiculously unprofessional and shady. I'm so sorry you went through that travesty of representation. I hope they get what's coming to them.
Fingers crossed and hoping for the best! ❤️
I’m so sorry you went through that, but I’m super glad you didn’t sign the NDA and are reporting them to everyone and requesting mediation.
Yeah…that NDA was definitely a no-go for me!
So sorry you have had to deal with this situation. I don’t think anyone escapes being gypped by lawyers. In our current times, mass starvation, death by plague, and the threat of rape and pillage from invading hordes is somewhat minimal, but those evils have been replaced by the actions of crooked lawyers, heavy-handed taxation, and ruthless manipulation of government by unseen hands. I wish you success in rising victoriously above these recent afflictions. Peace and joy to you!
I hope people see this and shut them down. Absolutely ridiculous. I have two personal friends that are attorneys. If you need a connect let me know.
Thanks, I appreciate it…I’ll let you know!
What 😮 that heck 😢
My thoughts exactly! 👍
You reported them to the Better Business Bureau? Ohhh, I bet that will scare them.
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Yikes… Predatory billing. It’s not just law firms that do this. This is one extreme in the gig economy, and lawyers are basically glorified gig workers with a guaranteed income. Most gig workers don’t have that guaranteed income. The thing that keeps most of us from _not_ doing this is that we’re not pirates. The other side of predatory billing though is impostor syndrome. On a recent web admin subreddit Reddit post, (I can’t remember the subreddit) someone asked how many people still feel like they’re imposters. Most responses said they’d been working at it for 10, 20, 25 years and they still felt like imposters. “Just don’t tell anyone.” The opposite end of the spectrum includes the sole proprietor who does gig work and tries to keep costs low by charging less, or thinks, “I’ll charge for three hours, but do the work in five so I’m sure the work looks good.” People with full-on impostor syndrome end up not making enough to pay the bills. It would be great if you could do a “how-do-we-strike-a-balance” video to combat imposter syndrome in an ethical way in a gig economy. Because not everyone is yet building a brand that sustains itself.
All around great points! Appreciate the insightful commentary!
Next drawing should be a snake in the grass!!! In honor of the slimy lawyers
🤣🤣🤣
Insert Jurassic Park 'Blood Sucking Lawyer' meme.
🤣🤣🤣
I've always been ripped off if paid by the hour.
Definitely easier to take advantage that way!
Dealing with a profession with sky high hourly rates and you avoid the flat fee 🤯 ouch.. probably less than 10 hours work to hit that flat fee mark?
Not exactly that low with the differences between attorney/paralegal rates…
I am so sorry you are such an amazing person. You can get them on an ethical violation talk to someone in your government center I hope and pray that you get some money back also report them on better business bureau
Thanks for the kind words! Definitely taking it as far as I can…appreciate the support!
You should look into legal malpractice laws in Ohio. You can sue them for well, legal malpractice. Not sure if this qualifies or if you’re still dealing with/upset about it so many months later but it’s worth checking out.
Granted, some jokes about lawyers are inappropriate. But this batch deserves to be the butt of lawer jokes.
Hope your video gets as much attention as possible.
Thanks!
It’s just ashame . Lawyers are the worst.
I’m starting to see that! Makes it hard for the “good ones.”
Rip offs must be big issue now. My late brother was a graphic artist and his designs showed up all over. He didn't let it bother him, old hippie type. I was actually happy that a logo that he did for a major festival he did was used until a couple years ago when a shooting at the festival was followed by COVID killing the event after decades. That was likely the last I will see if his work
Sorry for your loss…and yeah, it is definitely rampant.
Verry sorry to hear your story, but unfortunately it's not surprising at all. I'd put estate agents in the same box as lawyers - I've dealt with both like alot of people have. The main objective for them isn't doing what's best for you but making the most money which is what is best for THEM. I'm totally with you in the choice you made to not accept the NDA - I would have done the same. It's pretty obvious that had they acted properly, then they wouldn't be offering such a deal at all. I hope you make progress in the follow up to at least maybe get some closure. The only thing worse than losing money is losing time so I feel your pain hopefully now you can just focus on the main goal of your company 👍💪
Yeah…definitely looking out for their best interests. I would love to save the time and just drop it, but it’s so hard to turn your back on standing up for what’s right!
@@BeeJayDeL Well said and with you 100%..principles don't come cheap but taking the easy way is much worse!
They find ways to screw you over. Praying you get most of it back.
Thanks…I appreciate it! 🤞
didn't know it's so expensive to forward an email from amazon rofl
Right?!?! 🤣
Lawyers SUCK! ...you don't wanna know my stories......holy moly... you'd feel lucky BJ...anyway ....I say again...lawyers SUCK!
Sounds like you’ve definitely been through it too…so sorry!!!
@@BeeJayDeL thanks.. and it still goes on... one thing I know for sure...Bankers and Lawyers will have a tough time at the Pearly Gates of Heaven... ooh.. there's a cartoon right there!!!!.. maybe you should do one...that's a Jen'sArtJuly prompt for you! (might be cathartic) Thanks for the Pro Draw...I wonder if you'd make a smaller one for my itty bitty lady hands!xx ;-)
