Aliens Versus Predator 2 on Steam Deck

- The 2001 classic in game mode installed and working without Lutris using only Proton Experimental.
Runs really well, no issues so far.
Instructions
-Install AVP2AIO game on a Windows PC, patch it to 1.0.9.6 and apply the no cd patch.
It's available for free, search 'AVP2 freeware' for the reddit post and link.
Once its installed, copy it to your Steam Deck using desktop mode. I have mine in /home/deck/games/AVP2
-Next unzip each ISO files from the download link to a different folder, e.g. AVP2_ISOd1 and AVP2_ISOd2
-Add a non Steam game to your library, adding the setup.exe from AVP2_ISOd1 as the target and AVP2_ISOd1 as the start in path.
-Set it to Proton Experimental
-Launch this in desktop mode and install the game WITHOUT installing DirectX8 or Gamespy. When it asks for disk2, select the folder AVP2_ISOd2
-Browse to the following on your Steam Deck and update the patched exe with the one in /home/deck/games/AVP2/avp2.exe
/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2893894692/pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Fox/Aliens vs. Predator 2/avp2.exe
-Once installed, update the target in your Steam library to /home/deck/games/AVP2/avp2.exe and start in path as /home/deck/games/AVP2
-Add your game art searching for Aliens Versus Predator 2 (I use Steam GridDB)
Launch the game and enjoy without having to mess around with Lutris or anything else. Hopefully you last longer than me!

Hello, I am struggling to get this to work. Note firstly, I did not do the first part of PC installation as I currently have only my Steam Deck with me. Is it crucial step or can be bypassed?
I did all the other steps, everything ran smoothly. Then I come to the small launch window of AvP2 (the one with Play, Display, Options buttons) and when I press Play it keeps saying "Error- Unable to find the AVP2.rez file. Please make sure that AVP2 is installed properly and that your AVP2 disc 1 CD is in the drive."
Could this have something to do with the game crack? I did replace the NO CD .exe file with the one in my game folder on Deck (I did it from the external hard drive plugged in Deck). I am kinda new to Linux, do cracks work the same way as on Windows or? Please help, I love this game so much and it brings so much nostalgia to me. Thank you in advance!

Yep, they do.
I'm using a community layout 'Aliens vs Predator 2 - w/Bumpers & Mouselook Trackpad' by Adam.
This works really well as like using the trackpad. The right joystick behaviour on this sets 'Joystick Mouse' so in game it works but is way to sensitive. It can probably be changed to something else but I like using the trackpad for most FPS games as it simulates a mouse much better for mouselook.

@@guest21984 im just trying to get the controller to work on steam and i cant. i got the avp2 layout for the controller but when i run the game i can only moce side to side, any ideas

your instructions confuse me could you help me understand I cant till if you want me to install the game completly on my computer then move the intire AVP2 folder to the steam deck? or download the file from the website then put it on my steam deck through desktop mode and install it there?
Hi, yep, install fully on Windows, patch and then move to the Steam deck (then follow other steps)
@@guest21984 So there are 2 diffrent installs from the website the ISO and the EXE whitch one is needed? I installed the avp2_avp2ph_aio.iso file from website on my computer did the update and the CD crack also put the avp2_avp2ph_aio.iso on my m.2 so I can create the 2 folders with the extracted ISO cd1 and ISO cd2 to those folders also Moved the Alien V Predator 2 game folder from my C drive to my m.2 then pluged it in to my steam deck I went to home/deck/game/Aliensvs.Preadtor2 I had to create the game folder with in deck folder then placed the AVP2 game folder in there that I installed on my computer then created the 2 folder on my steam deck desktop for disk 1 and disk 2 then opened up steam and add a non steam game looked for the file setup.exe in the disk 1 folder i created that had the ISOcd1 in it and also forced proton experimental launched it and installed the game and did not change the drive lift the same when installing it on the steam deck and so now I'm at the point where I need to place an AVP2.exe in another folder but getting confused at that point? I think im very close I had the game almost start 3 times lol first not sure what EXE i picked for the target but when I hit play it said there is no disk then second time after reinstalling everything i got the splash screen popup but said I needed to install the game lol then 3rd time I hit play button and acts like its starting it thinks for 5 seconds and then stops and the green play button is back lol
