More and more, I believe that nowadays it matters more who is behind the camera and editing what it captured than the camera itself! They are all at a high to very high level of evolution. Your work is the mirror of that, regardless of the camera you use, we know that creativity and quality will be there, marking the difference in relation to the evolution of the machine itself!
Congratulations!! Fly the flag. 🇵🇹
Couldn’t agree more - takes years of experience to utilize everything a camera has to offer. Give a pro any camera and they’ll make it work
It definitely plays a part like the whole Apple event that was shot on iPhone they used the same exact gear and lighting the been using and swapped the camera for the phone but what also the 15 spart is the log and ProRes so you don’t have that kind ver sharpening look now you can blend clips in with your professional camera if you happened to forget at home but can’t stress enough lighting is key
Bem dito f***-se
Not really anyone can film high quality film and edit footage without much effort it’s that same as the old day good story line but not long footage as people don’t concentrate because of phones. God bless
You are absolutely right. Look at Casey Neistat vs Peter. One uses a basic camera but creates really good pieces with a story. The other uses expensive gear and coloring looks cool etc but lacks that story telling that captures the audience.
Can't Apple just simply call Peter on their launch showcases? He would've a way better showcase video for the devices. This is brilliant.
This was the application for the iPhone 16 promo launch lol!
Yes, wonderful!
Is there a way for me to get free sound effects like the ones similar to the ones that were played in this video?
Or has everything transformed into needing a subscription nowadays?
From your words to god's ears! I agree completely!
I love when you drop videos like this one, so good to just pause the day and watch pure cinematography.
A form of meditation
@@creativityworkxTrue meditation is entirely different. It is the very absence of audio-visual stimulation what makes it that difficult to master. Just my 2 cents.
This isn't "cinematic" at all
Whilst I cannot argue with the amazing technological advancements in all mobile cameras...it is still nothing without art and skill - proven by your video here. It's so great that almost everyone has the jump off point to record videos like this. But your choice of editing, audio, colour grading and cinematography comes with great skill and talent!
Yup, craft is something people truly forget.
Speak on it!🫵🏽
Speak on it!🫵🏽
@Moraldog Right and there are so many other (android) devices that have the log feature, and have had it for much longer. In addition, the camera hardware on such devices like Vivo, Huawei, and Xiaomi are pushing the limits much further. This video could have been made(with Peter's skill in filming and editing) just as well if not better on one of the android devices I listed above
Yes sir… you read my mind. It’s nice and good that everybody can film in high quality.. but clips like this is a craft in its own.
It's wonderful to see that so many of us still love the beauty of slow pace. Thanks, Pete, for bringing it to us once again.
Brilliant. A camera is a tool. It's the filmmaker's brain that creates the magic. That this level of magic can be made with such a small package that's always with you is pretty great! Love this! 🤘
"The greatest camera is the one you have with you" Mr. Mckinnon you make any camera the best available. I try every day to shoot in your style and I am in love with photography now. Thank you sir.
I love the switches between the cold uncomfortable weather and blue tone footage to the warm „orange“ stuff with comfy fire etc.
The composition is so damn great 😍😍😍
It is. Especially when the Master himself shows it to us.
EXQUISITE.
Thank You Peter.
Just today I picked up the phone and recoreded my younger daughter playing on the piano. The sunlight was shining through the window and creating this beautiful scene. I was blown away by the quality of the recording - truly a revolution in making.
Finally, I was waiting for Peter to talk about this new iPhones. I’m amazed by the Apple Log 🤤
Simplicity sometimes has the best outcomes. And it shows in this video! Looking forward to getting my hands on one. To give me more reasons to go out and shoot, on the days I'm not carrying my Camera with me. Love the content as always Pete! 👌🏼
Honestly incredible what phones can do now!!
Beautifully conceived, shot, edited, and scored. Kudos to both of you.
I have no regrets upgrading from 7 plus to the 15 Pro Max. I’ve waited for 6 years and the advancement in technology is jaw dropping.
I have an iPhone 7. Is the iPhone 15 pro max any different than the iPhone 15 pro besides 5X versus 3X zoom lens?
@@PeterSchramm3 The only difference between the cameras is the 5X zoom
Thanks. I’ve also been watching videos that say the main lens is significantly better than the wide or telephoto, so would it make more sense to get a third-party telephoto lens and put it on the main lens?
Lord Jesus bless you! Apple/adobe are anti life!
Masterpiece 👌 loved it Pete and captain K
Some wonderfully atmospheric shots here Peter. I knew upgrading from an iPhone 13 PM to the 15 PM would bring me improvements, but I had no idea how great they would be. Thanks for the inspiration.
love seeing PM back with this kind of vids
I think what film has done for you this past year is what the phone camera has done for me.
It was always hard for me to really get into photography with all the options (and expensive ones at that) there are. It took too long for me to realize that often times the best tools for the job are the ones right at our fingertips. There’s things cameras can do that phones still can’t, but what phones can do nowadays is incredible. It’s allowed me to begin to understand and enjoy this hobby I’ve wanted to get into for a long time. Excited to try out some new things.
Impressive quality out of this phone. You really pushed it to its limits. Wonderful work and short film
It’s not the tool but the artisan behind it. Everyone can shoot with an iPhone but not everyone can shoot with an iPhone. Thank you for sharing your art Peter.
Yeah, like what he did in the first scene, where he low-graded the clip to make the iPhone way better.
@@cradle_n7515i think that the original log file without editing
@@cradle_n7515thats not "low-graded". It's just the new LOG format before vs after color graded
I just saw your .55 cents quote, thank you so much for saying that. It’s so true and motivating, I’m new to this but I’m just trying to take the next step every day. Thanks PM!
I'm overtaken with awe by the quality of production, color, audio stage, and music Mr. Mckinon is able to select and create. The creation of this piece with an iPhone 15 Pro max and the mastery and artistry displayed in the production process shows that gear as important as it may sound is not the last word its just another tool that helps creating art. a great camera is nothing without a great eye!!!
Defining RUclips’s strategy of “show don’t tell” love it. Short simple and answers the question without saying a word lets the viewer determine based on results.
In the past you could always tell that something was shot on a phone camera even if it was a good one. This is the first time where I honestly wouldn't have known. Incredible quality!
This video was the long-awaited video from you man!
Dang Pete, this is stunning!
I think we are also moving in to a new age where things like depth of field and super tight shots or lenses like 85mm won't matter as much (in a social and RUclips setting). Those creative tools and choices will still be prevalent but this shows us that different audiences consume differently and that the tools are really at the will of the shooter and not the other way around, Some complain that iPhone has the "phone" look even with log as far as depth of field, or lack there of, but I think this video shows that if the story is there, if the shots are interesting, if the color grade is on point and you are putting effort in to the shots and visuals, then you can do amazing things with a phone. This makes me want to grab my iPhone and shoot something creative!
Bravo Pete, bravo! Inspiring as always.
I love this vid. I also love that the thumb looks as if you're washing dishes with your phone 👐😃
I could watch hours of this. So good 🔥 But a big part of that comes down to the fact that your cinematography is on point, regardless of the camera used.
Notice how much of the experienced image quality is actually the sound design. 👌
I often think of what people like Louis and Auguste Lumière would think if they could be transported to 2023. As creative people we are granted insurmountable opportunity with our cell phones. The fact that you could quite literally produce film and edit on one device is merely a miracle, or at least they would think so. I think this is the greatest time to be alive, and I hope we don't waste our potential , you certainly don't. Thanks Pete.
Just got mine a couple of days ago, upgrading from an iPhone X the difference is HUGE - can’t wait for the weekend to arrive to put it to the test and make some new videos for my channel :)
Would have loved to have seen a two minute Tuesday style tutorial using this footage shot on iPhone.
And your transitions are just 🤌🤌🤌
You should show the Lens that you use ( anamorphic moment, or other) and the color grade process, tripod if you use, etc. it will be great 👍🏻
i think it's pretty clear he used nothing except the three lenses which frankly speaking isn't surprising to me
Correct. @@themellowhost
no external lens. apple log format.
I believe the distinction between Apple's Scary Fast event and this production is the extensive resources Apple employed, including an array of tools and a professional crew behind the scenes, which are beyond the reach of most of us and cost considerably more than an iPhone. Here, Peter utilizes just the iPhone's camera system and capturing capabilities, presenting the content in a raw and creatively impressive manner, especially considering he works with a small creative team.
It’s very very good but the small sensor will never beat the quality of a large sensor dlsr.
I got chills literal chills from your video. Mission accomplished
Guys lets be honest... (Peter McKinnon you included :D) Isn't it true that we all have these random moments every now and then where we just sit around and think about selling our camera and literally every single accessorie that comes with it... and just live to shot with this one device that fits in our pocket... simple. Minimalistic. No need for lenses. No need for anythings complicated. Just this thin phone and our imagination. Freedom to explore and create with simplicity... I don't know maybe it's just me. Cheers to all of you reading this.
Bless your words, its when that beautiful moment shows up and simply u put your hands in your pocket , grab that phone easily, and shoot,.. simple, easy , & so joyful , instead of warring about the gear and the accessories now you have room to focus more on the creative side , your art . The body is relaxed from carrying heavy stuff , the soul is happy creating 🤍 grateful for your words
@@iceprofilms exactly!
Lord Jesus bless you! Apple/adobe are anti life!
That snow is gorgeous omg 😩
Insane image quality! I really feel like now we are at a point where everything at a consumer level is more than good enough for serious productions. After the M1 macs and the latest iPhones there’s really only the user that stands in the way of a true professional project! Amazing to see!
Incredibles vibes from every single scene of this video.. Congratulations from italy!❤️
its crazy how they made such an amazing camera in a small device
It´s not only the gear, but the storytelling... You are awesome! Thanks for sharing everything you´ve got! You are inspiring, dude!
It's true. I photographed and filmed with the 5D MKII. Now I am shooting and filming with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The technology is incredible, and the coming years will be impressive, especially because of the AI revolution. By the way, the movie turned out spectacular!
So much emotion in this piece with the choice of music, pacing and shots. Great work Pete
How better is it from 14pro? I bet we can get same results from 14pro…
Most reviews fail to highlight this aspect.
14 Pro can't shoot in Apple LOG so it's not a comparison.
@@GabrielBhappy we can use apps like “Moment” with which we can shoot in log, yes stabilisation is not as good but output of the footage is quiet promising.
Sound design giving me goosebumps. So many little details in there.
awesome shots, sony definitely did a great job with this sensor
There’s more than just sensor. (Another phones with same sensor) Software is so important. Apple software obviously.
That's more like it, Peter ❤
Pete man awesome video! I was iffy on upgrading, I skipped the 14 rendition of the iPhone I have the 13 Pro Max but seeing the footage from you and different creators and ability to record straight onto hard drive thanks to USB-C. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger.
wait you can record straight to a HD - what?!
Just when I thought I had seen it all from Peter Mckinnon this happened! great story telling! The first video I seen that you didn't talk but yet kept us glued at the screen the whole time! Great Work!
Great video. iPhone 13 Pro Max shoots great video BUT the way iOS handles large files is “challenging” to be polite 😂
If you use the black magic app (we did) you can reduce those file sizes by shooting in a smaller codec.
@@PeterMcKinnonnice
You can literally record directly to external storage with this phone, so iOS has nothing to do with the file workflow if you don't want it to.
which codec u used for it?@@PeterMcKinnon
Sir! This is a gift-effort, so appreciated; your PROVEN truthful evaluation means inspiration to many.
Thank you Peter.
Richard
Honestly goes to show that you don’t need to spend 1000s of dollars on cinema level gear to create quality content. Great video as usual Pete👍🏻
Awesome shots 👏👏👏
More of this please, loved it
hi. thanks for this video. about auto focus: do I understand correctly? you need to tap the screen to set the focus to the object you tapped on. (besides setting focus manually using rhe slider). QUESTION: how can I set auto focus when I film myself for talking head videos? I would have to walk towards the phone and tap the screen, but obviously my face would not be in the canvas at that moment. any solution for this?
no words, no BS, straight to the point. Amazing piece of work. Thank you.
I am surprised, Its not looking like a sharped typical footage shot on a mobile WOW
Exactly!
Now diving into mobile filmmaking, I've found my saved video for inspiration, thanks Peter!
Impressive, but just like photos on the newer phones... The big difference is in the details, when you zoom in you clearly see a difference. When I'm watching your video full screen on 4k it's by far not as sharp as a Sony 4K. Same as the photos, beautiful on Social media, but once you zoom in in lightroom, you see it.
But in this social media world, we are living in right now, the real quality is 1920x1080 I guess.
It's almost 2024. No one is watching your videos on a 4k monitor lol. Nearly everyone around the globe consumes social media content on a 4-5 inch smartphone. get with the times.
@@Fjord579 Seriously? Social media consumption on smartphones has risen over 300% in just the past two years. So yes, it was different just a couple years ago before everyone had smartphones capable of fast enough speeds and mobile friendly websites, people were watching videos on desktops and laptops.
LOL I am sitting here reading this on a 4K monitor and most everyone owns a 4K TV unless they are a child like you or some poor 3rd world country resident
@@silbay Yea, but those of us who watch these types of videos make up a VERY small percentage of users, we are the 1%. You think people own desktop computers these days? LOL!! Aside from myself, I dont know a single person who owns a desktop computer. Most everyone uses their smartphones to consume media these days. iPads and laptops make up the last little bit. You must not be a content creator or you would know this.
Isn't that a shame though? Does that mean we can do photoshoots with our phones because people only post it on social anyway? @@michaelbell75
Breathless man! since 2016..ever since i started following u. Loved the short and crisp video.
unpopular opinion: it's still pretty much a cellphone camera to my eyes
I agree I think it looks… ok
It’s not jaw dropping granted but look how far we come
I was actually waiting for this video since the 15 launch
Than you
I'm curious to see Pete make a temporary switch to the Samsung Galaxy Ultra to see how he likes the camera, etc.
he's a "hipster" so he won't switch, that would not match his 40 something year old skinny jean persona
When they announced Log being in the pro phones I sat up straight and seeing it as of late has been nothing short of insane. I needed to see the PM sauce with it and yeah it’s absolutely mind blowing what is now possible with a camera you carry in your pocket
Anybody else regretting buying an expensive camera and mind blown at how well Peter is able to push this footage?
Watching it on an iPhone 15 Pro. Truly amazing what this little device can do.
Is the pro max any different from pro if both is 15? For camera?
@@CallMeFil I am on a Max too, so I cannot really tell.

the grading on this 😍
Nah, it won't.
Location Location Location... Oh yeah and Peter! Much LOVE & RESPECT to my fellow creators on the great land of UPOVAZ, Cheers from the great land DownUnder
Come on guys ... back in 2021 you could already shoot with a cheapo android device RAW Cdng 10bit using an app that cost 16$. Nothing revolutionary in a phone that costs 1500+ dollars and happens to shoot prores.
That cabin looks so dope
Still laughing. And crying a little in the same time. This is nonsense frankly. Iphone footage looks very bad on a 4k screen in comparison with modern mirrorless cameras. It was hard enough to explain people why they should hire a professional, But thanks to this trend - most of us will lose our jobs.
Just because someone has a good camera (iphone15) doesn’t mean they are good at filmmaking or story telling. It’s truly an art to be able to capture perfect compositions and lighting. I really think that most people would still rather hire a professional to capture big life events.
Nice video Peter, always a pleasure to see your work
Wow, this is the best display of what the iPhone 15 is capable of from what I've seen. Nice work Pete!
This is therapy.
The complexity and simplicity of this video was exceptional. Loved it Peter & Team. No words was perfect.
omg, omg, this is incredible, the wide footage reminds me as if the footage is shot with a anamorphic lens, so wide and crisp.
Loved this little film, Pete. And the quality of the iPhone 15 camera looks so good.
Couldn’t not like it. Love a classic Peter McKinnon film!
Stunning film Peter! I've just taken delivery of a 15 Pro Max... so this has me stoked to get started with it! 🔥
