I have never seen a IT manager keep their job very long. They keep stopping projects to chase the next "shiny thing". At the "end of year review" there is never anything that was finished.
I think it’s best not to generalize, I’m an IT manager I have stayed over 5 years in the present organization I work. I’ve been part of many successful projects and have learned a lot from them.
