Someone needs to figure out how to MOD the Google Android Auto apk, so it can bypass all the bulls... in the meantime, the reliable solution is buying an Android Carplay AI box for $50 or so, which you plug in the USB port and then it gives you full Android functionality.

I use the map on the car screen and youtube on my phone on a magnetic holder. Mostly watching podcasts anyway
