During the depression, my great great grandfather grew a garden in his small backyard and fed his family and surrounding neighbors. I plan to do this in memory of him, as well as for the earth and to be sustainable. I plan to share the food I grow with elderly and handicapped neighbors and friends who aren't able to be sustainable. If you are able to be sustainable, do it, and share with those who can't so that it still cuts down on use.

AbbieGirl46 yes! I moved from the city to rural area. Not only is cost of living cheaper and more land for affordable price but I can have a garden now! I brought strawberries to my neighbor to break the ice! They brought me watermelon in return from their garden! I love that it makes me feel like I’m connecting and not strangers to people that live next to me

Seeing a lot of posts saying Leo made a massive donation to the rainforest! This happened AFTER this episode was recorded. However, he did in fact post an incorrect photo. Like we said- he does more than 99% of people!
He also causes far more pollution than 99% of people lol. He took himself and his friends to the conference in private jets. Goes about on yachts and big juicy cars and private jets. Can't see him bring any more eco friendly on other areas considering those methods of transport. these people are major hypocrites, doing these things to bolster their public persona.

I came from Kendall’s page. Y’all have opened my eyes to so much but mainly climate change. I’ve always been too scared to talk about it because it gives me bad anxiety but I’m educating myself more on it and it helps. We need to do something about this earth! I’ve started doing little things to try to help everyday.
My sister was involved in a very abusive relationship on both sides of the party. Her and the victim were out on a night of partying that involved multiple drug use and alcohol. They got into a bad fight that led to physical fighting and my sister ended up stabbing her to death. Long story short I know my sisters story and journey from birth and my love for her has never changed. That doesn't take away from what she did and I don't ignore the victims side and the victims family that was affected by this situation. I'm solely speaking on my feelings towards my sibling, it didn't change my love for her.

My aunt murdered her child when he and I were both 6. Tortured over many hours, forced siblings to join in, etc.
My mother hates her sister and can not stand her. Their mother (my mum and aunts) stood by her daughter. We no longer speak to my grandma. I am now 32, murder took place on 1993.

I agree with mass produced beef but don't forget about local farmers who depend on it. I'm talking about family butcher shops, farmers markets, ECT. Just be aware where your products come from Support your local farmers.

Factory farming was adopted from local “small farms”. Farmers’ livelihood depend on cruelty and systematic violence towards animals. They should move towards plant farming like many farmers have recently.
Not all animals are treated cruelly in a farm setting, unless you've actually grown up within the industry you have no idea. Not everyone or every other animal can sustain a plant based diet. You need to be aware and look at different options where you food is coming from and your pets food is coming from. Alot of people can't live with meat protein, it's just a matter of what and where and how it's raised. Just because the factories are based around small farming doesn't mean those families should suffer. Some farming communities can raise crops because of the ever changing weather conditions and ground conditions. Don't blame everyone for the big consumers mistakes.

KRASH At the end of the day, no matter what “setting” those animals are reared in, they are sent to the same hellhole ; a slaughterhouse where they get a knife to the throat. Nothing humane happens in a slaughterhouse. I have no idea what you mean by “being aware of options”, 90 % of meat comes from factory farms and the labels farmers use like “red tractor approved” and “free range” are all meant to ease peoples conscience and capitalize on consumer guilt; they know most people are good at heart and do not support animal cruelty.
Eating meat has never been beneficial to human health. It increases all cause mortality and has been labelled as a class 1 carcinogen by the World Health Organization. I understand that growing up in a farm has heavily conditioned you. However, if your livelihood depends on profiting off the suffering of animals then it should not be respected or supported.

The rainforest segment is heartbreaking. I’ve been making small changes over the past 10 years and I just wish others cared as well. I’m one of the people that have decided to not have children bc of how overwhelming this situation is. All I can do now is help in whatever way I can and impact others lives and educate people. You guys are awesome

The UK is the only country to have declared a climate emergency, this happened a few months ago. What that means I don’t really know, but it is a step in the right direction, a small step. Let’s hope more countries do the same!! Great podcast as usual guys!! Xx
I just looked and my store brand vegetable oil is soybean oil NOT palm oil.
I think its just important to check labels and be aware that it can be found in many common foods, particularly processed foods.

Just get olive oil or avocado oil just to be safe.
Some of those farmers burning the Amazon are doing it, to get more space for soybean fields. Avocados are also problematic, because towns are being run dry of water, for the avocado farmers to be able to water their plants.
It's best to stick to a local oil, or at least one that is produced in your country.
My daughter told me that I needed to buy metal straws and it honestly just made me proud because it's her little way of wanting to help.
I think it's actually a good thing to have physical copies of important records; we're not guaranteed to always have access to electricity and becoming too dependent on our technology could be our downfall if anything wipes out our power grids. But there totally needs to be a more sustainable way to keep physical records, like using hemp paper.
I agree. Not EVERYthing, but just important records. Tax documents, marriage and birth certificates, death plans, trusts, wills etc.

@@SnorlaxUsedRest Oh, definitely. I don't have kids and personally I don't think I want them only because I struggle with mental health and don't think that'd be fair to force a kid to endure it. I would love my kid unconditionally, but being a mother requires more than just loving them. You have to sacrifice so much. You have to remain mindful and patient and I'm not sure with my mental health I could do that.

I watched the TED talk from one of the Columbine shooters mother. It was so sad and heart breaking but really put being the parent and loving someone who was a monster into perspective.
Millions of people are abused or traumatized during childhood and don't grow up to become sexual sadist serial killers.
I always have to listen to these when I'm already in a very positive mindset, because the news piece normally makes me cry and/or panic. It is so important though and you often give me great ways to start conversations with other people in my life in hopes to make a little change. Thank you for talking about the hard things 💕

I want to that you guys for being aware and doing your best to inform our society. I truly look forward to watching your podcast because I learn so much and not only that but I am also becoming more conscious of everything. It’s just hard to talk about climate change or anything thing else surrounding this topic for whatever reason and it doesn’t only break my heart but it also angers me. Why can’t people see we are killing our only home! People only focus on problems instead of trying to fix them as well. It’s sucks because I feel like I’m not doing enough but I’m doing my best to be as sustainable as I can, thanks you once again!
This comment is in regards to the discussion at the end about caring about a murderer. Personally, I was introduced to my boyfriend's friends and pretty much his non biological family and later found out that one of them, a man in his 50's, the sweetest, most caring person I had come across at that point in my life (I had horrendous anxiety and couldnt talk much to people at first, but he was so understanding and always made sure I was okay and included as much as I was comfortable with, shared his weed with me, etc, never in a creepy way) but I found out a bit after meeting him that he had VERY recently been released from a 25 year prison sentence for murder. He had gotten into a bar fight when he was young, and the man had died from that fight. Honestly, it didnt change my opinion of him much. Maybe prison changed him? I dont know.
Also, the women that fall in love with murderers in jail, i think have a HUGE thing for men with "issues". Some of us want a man to try to help him out in some way emotionally to feel useful, but that's to the extreme.

The music at the end of each of these podcasts almost makes me cry because it really punctuates the ends of these movingly tragic stories and leaves you on a serious poignant note. It’s hauntingly beautiful and respectful. Hats off to your musical director / composer
I saw that Leonardo DiCaprio actually donated 5 million to help the rain forest. And he has an environemtnal organization. And he helped produce the documentary cowspiracy. So he's one of the few celebs I see actually doing a ton to try and help.

I like "the earth isn't dying, it's being killed" but something I saw that I thought was really impactful, was this quote that went something like "we aren't killing the planet, we are killing ourselves. The earth has been through many extinctions and we will damage the earth to the point where it is unlivable for us. But the planet will continue and new life will continue." I thought that was really interesting. All the harm we are doing to this planet will end in our own demise, and people are selfishly neglecting the earth without realizing we will lose all of humanity in the end.
I mean we could end up destroying the planet, and what corporations are doing to our home is horrible, what we are doing is horrible. And we shouldn't just care about ourselves, we should care about ecosystems and animals that are not our species. But I think this perspective is interesting.

As a criminology student, we learn and recognize that there are always significant reasons/factors as to why people offend and commit such vile crimes; very rarely do people commit a crime, let alone murder, for no reason at all. Like you said, it is in no way an excuse, however it provides an explanation and allows criminologists and psychologists to study the impacts of such factors in relation to crime. You don't even have to feel sorry for the offender, just acknowledge the fact as part of the sequence of events. It is incredibly heartbreaking that these poor women had to go through this as a result though.

Shouldn't this be enough to put out this and idk every single fire on Earth for the next idk at minimum few years? If I was him I'd micromanage the fuck out this fire getting put out after donating that much money. I feel like I could fix all our issues with that much money, the ozone, fires, feeding the poor housing the homeless our garbage filled ocean cleaned up and save a few endangered species

First of all, he has a lot of influence and fake pic or not - he reached a lot of people and informed a lot of them.
So what if the pic is fake, the information still stands and he’s spreading the word out there. Also, if the pic is more shocking it can make people panic even more, which is GOOD in this case. So maybe they knew that the photo is not current but just wanted to report on it.
Leo is a great example of what celebs COULD do with all of their money and fame if they wanted to.
His foundation also gave 5 mill dollars to combat the fires!! If even 5 more celebs were half the people he is, the problem would be half solved.

The burnings in the Amazon is just horrible. I am so depressed watching this beautiful earth literally crumble before my eyes and it's all due to things that could easily be changed. Greed is the worst and most evil thing in this world and it is slowly destroying us.
PS the Amazon doesn't produce 20 percent of earths oxygen, that is a myth. Just wanted to put that out there for anyone getting scared about suffocating from lack of air after the Amazon is all burned down.

As a person and a victim who is somewhat in this situation (they are not a serial killer, but a killer none the less), it’s so HARD, in many aspects. On one hand, this is the person who raised you. They took care of you, nurtured you and made sure you wanted for nothing. On the other hand, they also took away a person that you loved dearly (another family member), nearly took your life, and never once have they taken accountability for what they’ve done. It’s so hard because you’re left wondering “how could they do this?” And you’re torn because all your life you have loved this person and felt protected by them, only for them to rip away that sense of security. It’s a double edged sword. I still love that family member deeply, that will never change. But I never want a relationship with them again. I never want to see this family member in person again, and the only communication we have is a weekly phone call that lasts only a few minutes (with my permission) because I feel more or less obligated to it (reasons I will not disclose).
Everyone is different with how they cope with trauma and pain. My family has been split down the middle, and I’m trapped in the very center of it all. It’s mentally exhausting, and it’s left me wondering where I’m supposed to go from here.
I’m sorry if I’m not making sense or I’m rambling. It’s just hard putting how I feel into words. ❤️

Janelle's question was very thought provoking. For me, if I found out my brother did such heinous killings I would try to focus on the brother I knew before he became a monster. In a way I think I would mourn the person he was before as if that brother had died and was buried.

My husband and I just found out we're having a boy... and I literally have panic attacks because the world is so crazy. I constantly wonder wtf is wrong with us for bringing a child into such a crazy world.... I really hope we wake the fuck up and start doing better.

Thank you for speaking about the situation in the amazon. It’s truly a catastrophe. There’s not as much media coverage as the should be. Sadly, the fires are not only in Brazil, but also in Bolivia, where almost a million hectares of the chiquitanian forests has been burned to the ground. Bolivian government is not doing nearly enough to stop the fires, practically all the people working on putting out the fires are volunteers. Our firemen are working very hard in terrible conditions and with little to no equipment. The people in Bolivia are giving donations to help but it’s not enough, we need all the help we can get. Hopefully, the internacional community can come together and help our forests too. Again, thank you so much for speaking about the lungs of our planet burning.

Because I haven’t been seeing the exact same thing with the celebrities and famous people I once looked up to not spreading the word and using their voices that hold ridiculous amounts of power over people that they only see as numbers, to spread this kind of important information & encouragement to be more conscious
My second cousin murdered a girl from a county over years ago. I dont remember exactly when it happened but his name is Gary wayne ward jr from johnson co. Ky if you want to look it up. He was married and had 3 kids, one of which was either an infant or was yet to be born. He is notourously a cheater and he went on a few dates with this woman named Christina and some how they started to argue and she thretened to tell his wife about them so he beat her to death and drove the body to an abandoned house and left her there under a bunch of leaves and I remember they reported an old tv frame was placed on top of the remains. Her body was there for at least a month I think and he eventually got found out to be the last person she was seen with and was arrested. His mother is like the glue for my dads side of the family. My grandparents moved away from rural eastern ky to NC in the late 80s while my dad was still in high school. So my aunt comes "home" to ky to visit a few times a year and Gary's moms house is the meeting place every time they come to town. His mom is very involved in the community and the entire branch of the family still go to the same church my great great grandparents started, where everyone still wlecomes gary to every Sunday. Oh yeah, he got out a year ago despite him pleading guilty. The woman he murder family are still heartbroken and furious and they basically vowed to ruin his life, his ex wife's and his kids lives. I havent really seen him since he got out of prison and never really had a relationship with him before, outside of pleasntries at the bi-yearly family dinner. Hes an asshole and everyone kind of knew that before but since he was arrested, most of the family just pretends he doesnt exist. So long story short, no I dont still love him or care for him and I honestly never did. He was too busy going from woman to woman, marriage to girlfriend to girlfriend to be apart of the family and be present. I have a feeling most guys like michael had kind of the same deal. Honestly if my cousin had experienced the same kind of abuse he might have done what he did earlier and maybe more often. My cousin probably got hit a few good times growing up (people around here still think thats a suitable way to react to children misbehaving) but nothing to the extent of most homicidal psychos.
I work for a small medical office and the reason we use paper files is because going paperless is so expensive. It will cost $30,000 to buy all new computers and a software systems. Just something to think about, small business can’t afford to go electronic.
I always keep the blinds closed. I thought everyone did.
