      +lykavsc1 Todats Pirelli slicks has less grip than those grooved tires. The grooved tires were alot bigger so the contact surface is somewhat the same as todays slicks. However the rubber compound was much more grippy than todays rubber. The Ultrasofts and Supersofts are harder than the grooved tires.

      They still are mate and will contiune to be. They have some 16 WCC's and 15 WDC's and are the longest standing team in F1. Williams, the team who has the 2nd more hardware and tenure, trails massively behind that with 9 and 7 titles respectively, with a tenure in F1 since '78? iirc. So until those records are broken Ferrari will always be 'most special'.
      On top of that, whenever you speak to someone outside of F1 who are not fans, when they think of F1 they usually think of or refer to Ferarri cars and/or Schumacher's era in F1.

    Probably the best F1 car ever build. During pre-season tests, the F2004 ran 2 seconds fast than F2003, and Ferrari's engineers thought there was a mistake on weight. Just think that Fiorano Circuit record lap is still of Schumacher on F2004 after 19 years.

    Personally I never liked the traction control on the V10 Ferraris in the lower RPM range. It made the engine sound scratchy, like it had a cold. Like in this video. My favorite engine of the V10 era, despite being a McLaren fan, was the R25 in the Renault driven by Alonso. It was such a pure engine note that it almost sounded tuned like a musical instrument. And the traction control didn’t strangle the engine sound like the Ferrari did. There’s also a great video on youtube showing the Renault engine on the dyno doing a track simulation. Watching the fuel spraying into the intake manifold as it screamed through the gears is epic!

    The first footage is from Imola. Button in his BAR-Honda on his maiden pole while Schumi had a bit clumsy first few turns. He almost pushed Montoya out at Tosa (0:34). Anyway, it's amazing how aggressive and twitchy these cars feel compared to contemporary V6s, even though they had more electronics allowed than today's cars. Full time flat out.

    • @Calyx
      @Calyx 8 лет назад +11

      Right, because it's somehow unfair to simply be the best?
      Back in the days of this video, there was much more freedom for constructors to design their own things. Now everything has to follow exact dimensions, exact fuel amounts, all the same wheels, same same same everything with minor differences in power packs.
      Did you see the 2017 regulations? Wider cars, monaco is either gonna be a crashfest or a boring ass race because nobody is gonna overtake with 40cm of extra car between them on such small roads..
      and in 2018 there will be halo's added aswell... regulations regulations...

    • @FLMKane
      @FLMKane 8 лет назад +6

      Stop. Just stop. Obviously you did not actually see any races in 2004.
      There was not much freedom back then either, for the exact same reasons. The 2004 regulations themselves were butchered to hell. Ridiculous quali formats, stupid fuel regulations, crappy tyre rules were present even back then. Consider how Michelin was castrated by the rule makers in mid 2003, and did not recover till 2005.
      Wider cars? The 80s cars were even wider, that was not issue.
      I agree with the halo being bullhit.
