Six definitely should restart the conversation about a best ensemble cast award! Saw it when it was in Chicago, and it was incredible. And all the queens had put their own spin on the show, and are amazing. I can only conclude they didn't get nominated because no one could decide which was the lead which were supporting.

    • @feitocomfruta
      @feitocomfruta 2 года назад +42

      THIS.
Like, Come From Away was so good but it was such a strong ensemble piece that there wasn’t a clear lead vs support. Six is the same way, each queen is so strong that there is no clear lead.
But what also contributes to that discussion is that THE POINT OF THE SHOW is that these Six queens are individuals who deserve to be recognized independently of each other, not compared to each other.

A lot of the "snubs", especially the celebrities, can be explained away that either their performances weren't terribly good (Beanie, Daniel), or the productions they were in weren't strong enough to bolster their good work to a nomination (SJP, Debra). FUNNY GIRL was not a surprise, the show got very weak reviews.
Katrina was a surprise, I saw the show last week and she was pretty wonderful (even in spite of using a strange Eastern-European accent when she sings). But what I've gathered is that her performance was not strong when the show first opened, and that she has been actively improving since then.

I saw Funny Girl a few nights ago and it was incredible! Beanie Feldstein was spectacular and Ramin Karimloo... WOW! Love him so much. He’s truly incredible! The first act of the show was hilarious and the second act, while still funny, got very real very quickly. It was beautiful and tough and tragic. Loved every second of it and I wasn’t the only one. The audience absolutely adored it! Everyone was dying of laughter and by the end, getting very emotional. And Nick Arnstein’s (Ramin Karimloo) new song Temporary Arrangement was a true showstopper. The audience applause went on and on and on, I thought it was going to get a standing ovation for a moment. And at the end of the show, the audience was immediately on their feet giving a standing ovation before the ensemble was on stage.
Ramin and Beanie definitely should have nominated for Tony’s, and Funny Girl should have been nominated for best revival.
I can’t believe the negative reviews I’ve seen. But clearly the audience disagrees - goes to show that critics’ opinions and Tony nominations don’t mean that much in terms of how good or popular a show is with audiences.

I think what happened with Katrina was the academy saw it early in her run when she apparently hadn't found the character quite yet. I saw her in March and she was brilliant but I've heard she was less so closer to opening.

Brutal is a good word. If you check Playbill, they have a good video about "A Strange Loop" - which certainly makes it look like an amazing show. There are a couple of curtain calls videoed that will give you a little more about the show - including understudies that had to go on in both the first preview and the first performance thanks (once again) to Covid. As to Funny Girl, I've heard rumors that certain cast members that are supposedly doing a bad job to get the show shut down to go on to other shows. But what do I know? I live in Colorado.

I saw Company a few weeks ago, and it was brilliant from start to finish. As an ensemble it was great, and should be in the conversation for "Best Ensemble" if it's ever a category; but other than Miss Lupone, no one stood out....

I just saw Six and Funny Girl on broadway a few weeks ago and I'm also shocked that six actresses did not get any!!! Plus the fact that Funny girl only got 1...I mean I do think that the Funny girl show overall was not as moving as I expected bc of the staging but ACTORS IN IT WERE AMAZING!! Jared Grime's tap dances in the show was SO GOOD of course and he is nominated but also others like Jane Lynch and, personally, Ramin Karimloo was PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the biggest issue I have is William Ivey Long’s nomination for costumes. I also was shocked Katrina and Beanie weren’t nominated but I haven’t seen either show. I’m not surprised the six queens weren’t, because picking one of them is tough when it’s such an ensemble piece where they all are so good. A strange loop is one of the best things I’ve ever seen and deserves all of the noms and will deservingly win best musical, book, and probably score among others! I also really hope Jaquel Spivey wins for his performance which is very special. That’s a big category this year though and honestly I could see it going to anyone.

I'm a little saddened by the lack of Flying Over Sunset recognition but I understand because it was a limited run that was cut short due to covid but it is genuinely so beautiful and yes it has tone issues (think of the rocket ship number) but I still think it was one of the standouts of the season

For the Olivier Awards (the West End's equivalent of the Tony's) all SIX of the queens got nominated for best actress in a supportin roll (one single nomination). So if erthey had won then they would ALL have one. You genuinely can't nominate one or two for a show that is literally about the fact that no one is better than anyone else!

I recently spent my spring break in New York City and went to three different shows while I was there.
Apparently I chose well, because all three got significant attention from the Tonys.
From what I saw, I think David Morse from How I Learned to Drive would be very deserving if he won.
The work of the cast of Hangmen was very strong, but the script (which is very well paced and funny) eventually breaks for me due to tonal issues.
Company was a WONDERFUL show, with an amazing ensemble, fantastically sharp work by the band, and an excellently engaging and smoothly transitioning set.
Both Jennifer Simard and Matt Doyle would be very deserving winners.
If Patti Lupone won I'd be pretty happy though, because she sang "The Ladies Who Lunch" right to me in my row D seat, making strong eye contact through most of the song!
I have heard some grousing about Katrina Lenk's vocal performance, but I thought her acting and overall charisma would have made her a nominee anyway.
    Thanks for this video!

i appreciate all the nominations for six because it love six, and i agree that they deserved at least one nomination for best actress (*cough cough* sam pauly), but i don't see it winning many awards. i don't know much about the other shows, but i feel like six isn't the type of musical that is going to do very well at the tony's. however, i definitely think it deserves best musical because all of the different aspects (score, writing, sound, costume, music, actress, etc.) come together to create an experience that really is unlike anything else on broadway.
