This was definitely one of my favorite episodes. I just hope Jake from NY is back next episode, but also Jake from NY that was in this episode, not that Jake but both Jake's? Omg! What just happened
The level of mutual respect between the FPS cast and the game developers is something you dont really see anywhere else. The best podcast in gaming and its not even close
Just a suggestion, but all guests should have an “who are you, what do you do”-type introduction. It might feel like everyone knows who someone is because they seem (are) popular, but not everyone knows them. It’s quick and easy and beneficial . (I had never heard of Jake#2 before).
That's the thing about being Internet Famous, you might have millions of subscribers but there's like 7 billion people on the planet and most of them still don't know who you are
I can't imagine the mood at the studio during 2021 and even 22. I'm kinda surprised phantom liberty is so amazing because it must have been created in such a depressing period
the beginning made me cry a bit when pawel dove into how the atmosphere inside the studio changed and how much it impact it had on everyone. So glad they're doing better.
Latest Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty is fantastic. It blew my mind. I wish this was the game they marketed and released in the first place instead of deceiving people.
The reason it's this good is because when making 2.0 and phantom liberty they had all this experience from the base game. People never take this into account, but literally 99% of the aspects that implied Cyberpunk where things they had zero experience with, they went from making third person fantasy rpgs with swordfights and horses to making a first person RPG in a futuristic open world city with fights using guns, cyberware, hacking, stealth, parkour and traversal with cars and bikes, not to mention all the issues they seemed to have with the engine. I mean you couldn't make a game more different than your previous projects even if you tried. My point is Cyberpunk 2077 was like their Witcher 1 which is the game that sets the foundations for a new franchise, and it's only with phantom liberty that they were able to use all this experience, take those foundations and start building on them, improving and adding depth to every aspect, like just in the combats alone when you play 2.0 you can feel so much how they master this setting way more now and they are able to use it at its full potential just with the talents alone like the air dash and mobility it gives you, being able to grab a guy to throw his body at another npc, all the cool builds and playstyles you can create. And this applies to everything even in terms of storytelling it takes some time to learn how to use a setting at its full potential to tell good stories, and i say this as someone who thought they did a really good job in this aspect I loved the story and characters of 2077. But that's why in my opinion phantom liberty and cyberpunk 2.0 feels so much better in everything, because now they have all this knowledge and they can focus on making everything better, 2077 created the basis and phantom liberty built on it and refined everything
I splashed out the cash for a 4070ti build so I could play it with path-tracing, playing the entire dlc with that at max settings was unreal, one of the best experiences I've had ever, especially the ghost in the shell boss. I then played like 50hrs free roam too on top of my existing 200 prior to PL, I can see myself over the years reaching 1000hrs now with the state of the game hands down, it's fantastic!
Jake and Lucy, please please please record your playthroughs of Outer Wilds. Watching other people play it for the first time is the only way I can keep re-living it
Mad respect to the FPS crew for having enough clout in the community that top tubers and developers are giving them the time for interviews. That's the opportunities and respect you get in the community by just being honest about your opinions on gaming.
Two things: One, great to see Jakey here, and two, I watched that Cory Barlog car interview after you mentioned it around the hour mark and damn that was electric 👌
The CC for this video registers Ralph saying ‘pawn’ as ‘porn’, pretty amusing if you’re just reading along. My favorite line was probably ‘alright well I’m just gonna go find this cyclops and kill it with this porn’.
Loved the CDPR section, no shade on Jake, he was super cool, had me laughing a lot and I hope we see him again! But man, really interesting stuff coming from CDPR soon, and seemingly so many jobs are about to be open within the new branch 👏👏
Gotta agree with Ralph on the topic of younger gamers will be playing games like we do. My taste in Games/Music/TV/Movies/Books changed as I aged and I don't see any reason for theirs to be stagnant. A lot of it is tied to what's popular in their social groups and as us olds know from experience, that becomes less and less relevant the older you get. As they start to be come more independent people, so will how they engage with the medium. In the end, great games will win.
Ralph’s perspective on DD2 is spot on and is actually exactly how DD1 was. There were a lot of elements that didn’t feel fully fleshed out in DD1 but were built upon with DD2. Given that it sold over 2.5 million copies - there will definitely be a DD3. Also, DLC is confirmed for DD2, so we may seem some enhancements there.
I think it was improvement but they add a lot bunch of half baked stuff and we back to square one, maybe someday my offspring will finally enjoy the real dragon dogma
@@KABLAMMATSyeah, it’s a mix of improvements from DD1, stuff that feels like a step backwards, and then experimental stuff that doesn’t feel finished. They really just need to go all in on a Dragon’s Dogma 3 or something
Yea I kept thinking how ironic it was hearing Ralph talking about it like that considering the game IS the freakin sequel lol. Feels like they just remade DD1 with a fresh coat of paint instead of significantly improving on the formular.
I originally didn't like Pawel given that he was the one running his mouth about how amazing their broken product was, but he has stuck around and clearly shows a lot of passion and loyalty for the company. I'm glad he remained consistently passionate even when the game was a mess, I bet he's great to be around in the studio
it probably didn't feel any better for Pawel before release knowing what he knew. He didn't really have a choice but to smile at the cameras and pretend everything wasn't a complete shit show. I'm glad they're doing better now.
Awesome to hear the insight from Jakey about juggling his music and videos. As an artist that tends to cast a wider net, it's reassuring to hear someone reflect some of my own personal battles when it comes to creating.
Ralph’s DD2 commentary that it feels like an alpha is hilarious if you played the 1st game and know that DD2 is pretty much identical. It ain’t developing into anything LOL
NakeyJakey should honestly become the 4th permanent member of this podcast if he can find the time for it. His perspective as a "non-gaming journalist" but still a passionate critic is so valuable, especially with some of his behind the scenes knowledge.
I liked the way how Skill Up explained dragon's dogma 2. In any other game, if my side companions repeatedly saying the same things over and over again, I would be extremely frustrated. Similarly, I am looting like nobody gives a shit. In any other game these were treated as "immersion-breaking" for me. But, for any unknown reason, I am not caring of any of these stuffs here, don't know why. Also, the side quests are extremely well-designed. These feel like fetch quests at the beginning but the more you go deep towards that side quest the more you will find the depth of it most of the time. But it is true that the game's lack of enemy variation is truly problematic. But again, I think developers did not want us to stick to one vocation only. I think, you can attain highest level of any particular vocation very quickly and then developer wants to try other because the game seems extremely easy if you level up with one single vocation and stick with it. So the enemy variation problem kinda offsets with the fact that you need to start from zero with each of these unique vocations. and oh man there are immense amount of varieties in vocations.
Ngl man I'm a little nervous of how CDPR is building towards the next Cyberpunk game. I'm obviously not a dev, so maybe they've got a good strategy, but building a new team and working in a new engine with people across 2 continents just seems like so much new stuff to contend with. I wish CDPR the very best. I love 2077 and PL, and would love nothing more than for the next game to deliver to its highest potential.

Lucy and Jakey need to play outer wilds! It’s a masterclass and makes you FEEL. I haven’t had an experience like that since. Also speaking of soundtracks…

Yeah. I'm in NG+ and honestly, it feels like what it really is missing is just content. System-wise, it pushes a lot of cool things especially for people who haven't played the first game before (pawns, grappling/climbing monsters, etc.) Just more stuff to do, more things to fight, better gear to get and refine, more skills to try. Nakey Jakey. I've been doing game dev for a year and a half now and it's HAAARD. It takes so much mental energy, but I have faith you'll be able to push through the learning process.

Really nice to hear CDPR is opened to any opportunities, if any present themselves, to further add some content to 2077 from time to time. Absolutely love the game.💙
This is such a great crossover I never thought I'd see! I feel like Jake and NakeyJakey need to be on an episode together though, their vibes together would be incredible
I would say that x men 97 is actually more than a kid's cartoon, the themes and the tone feel older, slightly more adult. It's darker than the original 90s show. I can't wait to see where it goes.
Damn this was cool episode! So happy to see Jakey here, a cross over I truely was not expecting. I dont know if yall are looking for a 4th person but maybe consider trying to pull more of Jakey's limited time away for FPS! 👀
Anyone loving Shogun should definitely check out James Clavelle’s other books. Tai Pan, Gaijin, Noble House, and Whirlwind are all phenomenal stories with amazing characters.
This is for all intents and purposes a compliment, but does anyone else notice that Lucy manages to look like she’s mewing in every shot? Like the cheeks going in and the facial posture. Maybe she just has insane cheekbones but I can’t unsee it
