"shriek" is right. I remember leaving the room and closing the door during long prints.

Dot matrix printers were great! That's great that you found a cartridge. They hung on for a long time despite the advances. I'm guessing because they worked well and the machines really lasted. I remember separating the side strips. That paper was a great way to keep things aligned properly and it never jammed. A lot of the art was cool too. The swords and things that people added to their works. Great video! Thanks.

In high school I built a printer stand for my ImageWriter 2 so that I would have a place to feed the paper from. I will always remember printing out reports at the last minute and having to rip all of the side strips off as I was walking into class to hand it in. (Not that I'm a procrastinator...well, yes I am!)

I printed many signs that were hung up around our house when I was a kid with this program and printer (sadly not physically the same program and printer, in my infinite stupidity I sent all my old electronics to recycling about 25 years ago...)!

@@CanadianRetroThings yea our Apple 2c and printer were sent to goodwill if I’m not mistaken but Love printshop! Made so many banners and birthday cards! Our printer had the connected printer paper with the holes on the sides you had to tear off though!

@@viscose808 That's what I had 2, I even built a stand in shop class for it so the paper could sit under the printer and feed up to it!

Man, I think our ImageWriter II was about $850CAD back in 1989. I loved printing cards etc with PrintShop GS
The colour feature was cool, but I doubt you’ll be able to find any working ribbons. The colour cartridges had a foam wheel to advance the ribbon which deteriorates over time. Any new old stock cartridges would have had the foam wheel disintegrated by now, and as far as I can tell, no one produces any new colour ribbons anymore
There was an optional sheet feeder attachment that Apple made for the IWII that would allow you to auto load cut sheets of paper

Back when I first had an ImageWriter II there was always a big box with the tractor feed paper hanging out behind it, I loved printing banners on it!

MacEffects sells reproduction color ribbons. I bought one recently, felt like it might be kind of a waste of money at first, but I've had a lot of fun with it.

Had various printers over the years. Starting with a ZX printer, for sinclair computers. It burned text onto silver paper. Had dot matrix, daisywheel, plotter, and inkjet. All seemed a bit of a problem to set up and keep going. The noise of some of them, was like a racing car, but the speed was less so.

It's not a very convenient way, or even good quality, to print stuff now but wow does it bring back memories!
