- I've created this video from the footage filmed over many months, while creating the Discovery 2 V8 engine rebuild series of videos.
Its a nice round up of the project.

Lovely series mate well done.
Got one of one of those in my 2001 P38 Range Rover. Always wanted one and its a great restoration project.
First had one in a Rover 3500 i bought new in my 30s so 40+ years ago! Never forget that sound as the Rover V8 always had a slightly off beat sound to it but what a lovely engine.
Couldn't agree more! It's a lovely thing. I've grown to love ours. I've been towing the a rolling road around recently, the rover engine is doing a fantastic job, taking the total 5 tons of train weight in its stride.
Nice! Great little vid to round of the project!!
Cheers bud, was fairly quick to make. But it seems I was missing fair bit (all) of the dismantling :)
Excellent piece fella. It really IS like watching an early Hagerty Redline Rebuild... 👌
You're very kind :) if o ly it was that good. They must put so much time and effort I to those videos, they are so good!
Tha ks for the comment Stu, much appreciated
Hello!! I'm about to build a LR v8 3.9 engine!! And I have a question!! The brand of the pistons on the left side point forward and those on the right side point backward? (LR V8 3.9) thanks
Exciting! I love an engine rebuild! If I remember correctly there's an arrow on the piston top and it should always point towards the front of the engine. This is because of the offset wrist pin, reducing the side loading on the bore.
While people trash on the rover v8 a lot I like them keep the cooling system in check and use high zinc oil and it’ll last a long time even the 4.6 can last a long time if properly cared for
Thabks for the comment Dylan. I'm a convert, I'm afraid I didn't used to rate them at all, but now I love the thing. It's a lovely old engine, with a super low rpm peak torque, which makes for effortless driving.
I couldn't agree more its a cracking bit of kit
Nice I want to put one of these into my 74 series 3
I would love to do the same!!!!! What a cracking vehicle to own. That's a lot of British heritage in one vehicle!!!
Very cool!
Thanks Graem, much appreciated
@@lozl I was thinking that I wish I could rebuild my engine that fast!
@@graemelliott3942 yeah... putting thay video together made me think that every other time lapse engine video I've seen must be the same story..... way more complicated in reality than it looks :)
@@graemelliott3942 have you seen any of the many Hegarty time-lapse videos? They're fantastic, here's an example:

@@lozl I’ll check them out. I really like to watch Soup Classic Motoring and Geoffrey Croker too
Man, what a journey. What’s your background? Are you a mechanic by training? I watched the whole thing like I was watching the godfather trilogy. What a great challenge you overcame. Cheers
Juaco, you're too kind! Thabks fir watching. It was rediculous it took as long to find that problem as it did to rebuild the engine in the first place. Crazy!
This is all just a hobby really. I started with lego and taking other things apart, then got a 1976 toyota land cruiser when I was 14 and it all went from there. You can see this and other strange projects in my "previous projects" videos. The land cruiser is where it all started.
Thanks for your kind comment
Sorry, have to stop 37 sec because video are giving me headaches... thank you,
Yeah..... bit shakey! The camera was in a fixed position. Not sure why that was happening. It stabilises at 50s again.
Thabks for the comment
I watched it twice to make up for your lack of viewership
Woww! Igot a V8 if you wanna do another vid 😉
Thanks for the comment Bog trotter, much appreciated. Is your clattering like mine was?
@@lozl not yet just using a little oil.(Crankshaft oil seal i think 😞 )
Great series though. I enjoyed it 👍
@@bogusbogmail that's a pain, they don't last long, they cheap as chips really, but man is it a pain in the arse to change
@@bogusbogmail much appreciated
