I didn't want to see this movie, because it was not the original short story, but I ended up watching it on a plane crossing the Atlantic Ocean as I was returning from a wild and crazy adventure that I had just gone on. I went to a country I had never even considered traveling to so I could follow my favorite blues musician on his tour all over the country. I am glad I watched it, I now own it, the sound track and the albums of Of Monsters and Men. I am planning my next adventure to Iceland. I am so glad this movie was made and I am so glad I opened my mind and watched it. Thanks Mr. Stiller.
I really loved this move and the interaction between Ben Stiller and Kristen Wigg. She was fabulous and very authentic. I really enjoyed the motif of how a woman can inspire a man to be more than he would be without her. A simple expression of faith in him by this beautiful (not just physically) woman is enough to inspire him to be braver than he is and starts him on the path of fulfilling his dreams. It was a very romantic movie to me. I also loved the characters like the friendly sailer who tells Stiller “Keep golden, pony boy”! The portrayal of kindness by very tough men to strangers. The helicopter pilot. Sean Penn’s character. “Beautiful things don’t need to draw attention to themselves”! A Great Movie.
I'm not a fan of Ben Stiller. But every so often, he can create a good movie. Really enjoyed Ben as the director and playing Walter Mitty. I hope Ben does more films like Walter Mitty.
Our latest Academy Conversation was with Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig and producer Stuart Cornfeld for "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". You can watch all of our conversations here: www.oscars.org/video/academyconversations.html
Have always been a fan of Ben Stiller but this is his best movie and it's not even his typical comedy role. AMAZING movie. Should have won 5 Oscars minimum. Just an epic and inspiring movie, if you haven't seen it do yourself a HUGE favor!
I was in this movie today. It's fantastic! Ben is very good actor. And one thing with I really liked is music. So deeply and beautiful... can't wait the dvd to watch one more time.
my favorite movie. Best script, actors, actresses and music, photography, locations. All the best. Thank you Ben Stiller and all. It is an uplifting movie, I love it.
Asking a storyteller if the story in any way reflects him is a pretty stupid question. Of course, it does. I don't think any storyteller would ever waste their time on a narrative that doesn't resonate with them in some fashion...
I love the movie... Ben Stiller you made this movie so perfect... even African American loved it; very understandable and people who have dreams and can't go or not possible... it is like a fresh breath... it is so cool. A stoic man in a way but a normal person... everybody have this imagination. Love Ben Stiller being an underdog but turn out to be good. the final of Walter Mitty is so cool. Were inspired. especially the skateboarding.... my children are borders (they are adults-- they still have their skates (snowboard and surfboards). WE all love it.
i expected to see "The Night At the Museum"or some other kids movie that Ben Stiller was acting in.For me this is the Best movie this year.Much better then -THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, for which i think its over rated ,and doesnt deserve to be in the OSCAR nominations. The script, the photography, the music, the locations, the actors, everything directed to fit and capture the right moment of the script.Ben Stiller deserves an Oscar for this movie.
+Aaron Kaminski Why is it sad to ask this question? I ask this question seriously and without any bad intention but solely out of neutral curiousity. I am not in the movie/tv industry and therefor have no expert knowledge regarding that issue. I just read up after seeing your post, that the digital technics allegedly are equal alternatives to film. Therefore I am interested into your reasons, if you don´t mind me asking.
+Gabal W. It's a simple matter of preference. Many people who study film making are worried that the art itself is being ruined by the digital age. It seems as though you can put anything you want on a screen with a few clicks. This isn't inherently bad or good. It's just that many people are strong belivers in keeping the "artistic value" in film-making.
Film has a warmth and depth that digital just doesn't cut it... yes High Def camera can catch everything with minimal lighting but if you have the right cameras, lighting and proper focus then it will beat Digital every time.... That's why the Iceland shoots looked so cool...
It would be awesome to see a sequel were Walter and grown up Richard go out on another journey and if it was like the first movie directed by Ben stiller that would be amazing
Love this movie so imaginative and inspiring. Ben Stiller acting and directing a wonderfully innovative and heartfelt movie with a magical ending. I really resonated with this movie.
This is Ben Stiller's best movie I have seen.

"You shot this movie on film. Why?" It's sad that this is a question in the film industry nowadays.

+Gabal W. I really don't remember the context or reasoning behind anything related to my post, so I wouldn't know.
Aaron Kaminski Thanks for your quick answer and especially your honest answer :) Best wishes from Germany!
