All of this mess is of their own doing. For years, these manufacturers have been ramping up production, ramping up production, ramping up production. Mistakes were made, accidents have occurred, and now confidence in their products are waning. No sympathies here.
The logic is they ordered ~250 A321s way back in the late 2010s, those frames are enough for them to go for some years. If anything turns sour on the MAX10 side so be it. They'll add orders incrementally once the ones in hand are not sufficient.

The difference is Boeing's lack of QC. It's not just that aircraft in incident, nor MAX, but across different product lines from 737 to 787 to KC46. There may be something more systemic.
@@michealktrevorit’s still smart though. Take Southwest and Ryanair who only run 737s or easyJet and Spirit who only use Airbus. If anything were to go wrong, they are screwed. Meaning airlines with mixed fleets can survive.
@@Bobspineable It's still only two aircraft firms that are making aircraft large enough. Boeing and Airbus: can't live with them, can't live without them. It would be another story if, say, Embraer could make larger jets. Or some other third party could refurbish older jets with newer guts.
They can afford to wait exactly because they aren't back in the queue. They keep receiving new A321NEOs from time to time. That 100 MAX10s are nice but not necessity in the short term.
Delta's 777 fleet is small and complicated. Older 772s are to be gone anyway, so keeping the even smaller 77L fleet is uneconomical during the pandemic.
They still trust Boeing because ALL their last planes are airbus (and I love it). They can cancel their order any moment later and just add more planes in their order across the Atlantic. In the other hand, United is screewed.

Of course you know what would happen. You'll get meager discounts on future orders. 😊😊

@@thecomedypilot5894 Agreed but who knows when the 737MAX 10 will be certified
That's a logic and balanced statement. The Delta CEO knows that even if ordering at Airbus now, you will first get your airplanes in 2028 or later.

Great news! 😊
Corporations no longer worry themselves about people.
No reason to in the USA - never any real accountability.
Yeah... that's what he says now... but they have all been meeting with airbus......
Why did they order the max 10 if they have the A321? They are basically similar size of plane and capacity?
Really?
To replace their aging 757s
The same reason Unites and American ordered the MAX 10. Fleet commonality and leverage.
This is for those who says that Delta is going all airbus, they clearly aren't going all airbus despite having major airbus orders!
That’s good
To be clear, the 1000% comment nullified everything he'd said before that, at least rhetorically if not legally.

The real "chance" is the journey to and from the airport by car.
