18 FT Is the optimum length of coax cable to get the best results. The coax acts has a ground plain do not coil it run it around the front of the boat. Especially on a fibreglass boat has there vis no ground. You can buy artificial ground plains that you mount to the base of the antenna.
Outstanding as usual and good camera work.My radio doesn't work and looking beneath is like spaghetti junction. Aerial needs some attention too. Watching you work is a pleasure Jason, thanks for your time my friend.

Dont leave a solder blob on tips of connector. It will gape out the female connection of the plug in radio and then have a weak contact(solder blob touching only). Also put dislectric grease inside all your pl-259s threads and doodaa to waterproof

Can you run an amplifier to get farther out when transmitting?
Maybe you can help me. I have the Lowrance Hook 7. I know how to make and name waypoints but how do i follow them ? Im trying to create waypoint at launch, to be able to return to launch in heavy fog or if i just didn't know where it was. Thanks
So you either have to follow your curser back to the waypoint you made or if your looking to find your way back to the the dock or something like that... you need to make sure your trails are turned on.. that way you can follow your “snail trail” back where you came from or you can see where you have been.. thanks for watching..
I have a question. My son is a marine mechanic. But we are stumped. The vhf mic turns on the Bluetooth stereo I installed, changes songs , turns up the volume all sorts of stuff. I rerouted the antenna wire from the vhf and it seems to have fixed it for now. Lol
My coax cable to Shakespeare antenna needs to be changed . the cable comes out the side. dose the base unscrew? John W Placerville ca

I'm installing a vhf and I need to add approx 4 feet of negative and positive wire to reach the fuse panel. What gauge wire do you recommend? Thank you
