Nice catch! I caught one on my Hobie Pro Angler 12 here in Guam. I was jigging for Monchong at 1000 feet with a 450g jig and caught it right after sunset. I was very confused on what it was when I got it next to the kayak. Ended up weighing 50lbs and was the biggest fish to date on the yak. Found out they are called Escolar or Oilfish. Scales feel like needles. I actually caught one again last night on a boat at one of the banks here again dropping down to 1000ft with a 350g jig. I gave mine away to the locals due to all the stories I heard about being a laxative fish.
someone just recently caught an oil fish (escolar) in SD too! gotta watch out for those wax esters since it's like a laxative but a few pieces here and there should be fine. nice job!
Nice Walu (aka Hawaiian Butterfish, oilfish), congratulations! Rare catch, and I think the first from a kayak. They have a very rich flesh, extremely tasty, but beware, eat only in moderation as the oil in the flesh is undigestable, so it goes straight thru you like a laxative. Remember, small portions only. 😉
Awesome vid and a beast of a fish those teeth are gnarly! Still waiting to catch something on akule...would like to see a sabiki tutorial from you 🤙 keep up the great vids!
Hi Dan. Take a look at Patagonian Toothfish info & pic’s on the web. I’m interested to know if this is another name for the fish you caught? Thanks. Jamie (New Zealand).
I can't remember what this one was, but it was the one that came with my garmin 64cv. This was before they started putting crappy transducers in the 64cv. I have a 74sv now with a GT 51 transducer. I would get a GT 51 if you have a garmin, they are 500 bucks though.
Hey brotha, love your videos. Could you do a video of all your gear. I live on the north shore on Oahu and I am slowly getting my gear for Kayak fishing and would love to know everything you have and maybe the cost. Mahaloz
Used to catch those at night fishing for tuna. They would come up and be 60-100ft deep even in 1500ft of water. Super delicious sashimi and lightly cooked for tacos. You can’t eat a lot otherwise it’ll turn your bowels inside out (never actually had that problem in all my years eating it so idk how much is too much) but a 30-40lb fish would get divided between 4 guys and keep us happy for about a month
Walu. Banned in some countries and in some restaurants here in Hawaii. We served it at a restaurant I cooked at, but never more than a 6oz portion. Except the a-hole owner. He'd always order a double portion.
Escolar. One of the best tasting fish I've ever had though they can cause some digestive issues with some people. The meat is extremely white and has a buttery flavor.
Thanks I know it by escolar and not oilfish lol. I've had it, it's good, I just didn't know it could cause diarrhea if you eat too much. Apparently it's because it contains wax esters instead of just oil. The more you know lol
I did not know that they had those fish in Hawaiian waters. We catch them sometimes at night in Mexico. They are called “Escolar” there. Very white opaque flesh, very oily and from what I heard from people who have eaten them, “Diarrhea fish” is an accurate moniker for them. 🤙🏼 And that was a big “ass” spider!
This fish is very good we call them Uravena here in Tahiti French Polynesia but no many people like to eat them because of the reputation of diarrhea Fish or Purge Fish💩 because of his white meat very oily but very good taste if you don't want to run on the toilet just dip the fish meat in fresh lemon for about 10min and after cook in a pan or on the BBQ you ill see oily buble came out of it...its very good😋👌
Congrats. Always quality vids at this channel. 700 ft drop? I can only imagine it. Looking forward to the final identification of that fish. You'll let us know, right?
Hello. I came across you and I was just wondering I subscribe to a wonderful video that is so precious I am a manufacturer and export company of famous fishing goods special for Korean sea freshwater
The fish turned out to be an oil fish or Walu in Hawaiian. It is also called the diarrhea fish... You can read more about the trip in the description.

Great video as always. What transducer are you using with your Garmin? I’m in Guam and trying to find an accurate transducer that reaches 1000ft+

Did you eat it? I would have liked to see you filet it. I wonder if ginger helps those with stomach issues?
That was certainly a rare and interesting catch. I am going to research more about that species.
Top 🤙🐟💥 grande bellissimo video come sempre
Dude that thing is so knarly,Moki black cod,SICK
Do you use just the spinfisher or is it the live liner version?
Do you have any lights on kayak or just a head lamp?
Cool video, cool fish kind of reminds me of a dogtooth tuna
very prehistoric-looking fish! Oh, how do you like the Ugly Stik Tiger rod?
can confirm def an oil fish. catch them here in NZ too around the 300mtr line.

What transducer are you running?
Was wondering when we'd get to see the video of this! That thing's a beast nice one 🙌

Incredible fish!!! 👍😊
That thing looked like a zombie kingfish bro!
We catch these from our kayaks in Guam too!
I need to rename the video lol
That's a FISH eating challenge ... Who can hold the DIARRHEA IN THE LONGEST....GOOD LUCK...
😂😂😂
Maybe an Oilfish?
They catch those in Japan at night. It’s called an Escolar or Oil Fish. Can make you sick if you eat more than six ounces.
Nice
In some places they call Escolar Butterfish.
Escolar aka Ex Lax fish. It tastes delicious, just don't eat more than 6 ounces or you'll fill your shorts with greased lightning.
Yes an oil fish. Congrats sir💪🤙
Not a good looking fish by any stretch... but still a beautiful fish. Never seen it before. 👍
That is a nice fish
Friggin monster. Def don’t wanna catch that or a marlin 😂
I remember seeing this on Instagram and hoping for the video, How far back are your videos backlogged?

Turned out to be a Walu or oil fish
You are a crack, greetings from Chile .🛶🎣
Was it an edible fish?
It’s edible, but if you eat too much it will give you diarrhea. It’s nicknamed the diarrhea because our bodies can’t digest all of the oil.
Hello. I came across you and I was just wondering
I subscribe to a wonderful video that is so precious

What kind of fish is that?
Walu
Looks like a oil fish
@@marki2659 Yep, Escolar.
Good way to get a bad case of the runs with that fish.
It’s edible and quite tasty. Just don’t eat a lot of it. : )
👍👍👍👍👍
Zombie fish, I am sure it tastes yummy 😋
Doggo.
Especially well prepare it, this fish gives diarrhea if you prepare it poorly.
It’s called a oil fish
Dry it , Put it on a tiki stake and light it up.
Walu
🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice fish
don't eat it
I feel bad for the guy I gave it to. I didn’t know it was the diarrhea fish
sounds not very tasty.. oly diarrhea fish..:D.. velcro fish is also a good name..
I would eat that Walu in moderation unless you would like to ruin some underwear....
looks like some kind of salmon
Maybe don't grab the fish by the gills?
That was after it was dead. Most of the time I would just tail grab the fish (like the yellowfin tuna later in the video), but this was 4 feet long.
