For the vendor rank up, if you're in the tower and you claim a bounty or dismantle an item and it gives you enough to rank up the vendor, you have to go to orbit and then back to the tower to be able to claim the rank up engram. That is what they changed.
No idea how possible this is but a exotic weapon gun game mode could be really fun, Literally no game was made worse because they added a gun game mode
There’s certainly a possibility with this. The last word quest had the weapon in a relic like state so I can see something like it exist but it probably is a difficult coding experience.
My brother joked with this back in D1. Since we have Mayhem, why can’t we make a game mode full of exotics, let players go wild with their imaginations and combinations. Will it be broken, yes. Is it meant to be broken, yes. Will it be fun, absolutely. Especially with all the exotic reworks and new exotics that come out so often, they’ll always be something new to try.
@ubaydah_i apparently bungie has actually attempted to make exactly the mode you're describing but it would be destroyed the entire game with the amount of bugs
Funny how creating Eververse sets every season hasn't become increasingly challenging. Though they did skip the bright dust set this season, so I guess they're struggling with everything that's not silver-only 🤔
Yeah this is why the excuse that it's difficult to make ONE new set per year is absolute horseshit. Also saying that people don't really even use the ritual armors is stupid because they have always looked like shit. Maybe if they were actually nice to look at, people would use them.
I love how Datto gave them a total pass like they can't walk and chew gum at the same time. We used to get missions and new maps and that was before all the big Sony money and sky-high silver profits. Everything is going to Marathon and I hope it's an epic failure. They need to be punished for screwing the fan base that feeds them.
Regarding ritual armor sets, I think the thing that is frustrating is that they are saying we don’t make these armor sets because you, the players, don’t use them. Well, whose fault is that? If the armor sets all look the same with minor variations like you say, or come with horrible rolls then the onus should be on Bungie to make them interesting enough from a cosmetic standpoint or useful enough stat wise for us to use. They can bust out all these eververse armor sets but can’t make just one interesting ritual armor set per year?
@@AquaticFlower2233but that's not what the majority is upset about here. everyone understands you're not getting above a 60 stat total from strikes, nor do we want to. we just want more earnable cosmetics from gameplay (preferably not 3 sets that are the exact same aside from color pallettes)
17:20 My one main complaint with battlegrounds in Vanguard Ops is that some of them feel like they were kind of balanced around players having the seasonal upgrades which they then don't have when they enter the Vanguard playlist (especially the security upgrades in the Seraph Battlegrounds so now it's back to lightly brushing your pinky toe against a laser being an insta-kill, which is especially galling in nightfalls and brings the pace to a screeching halt)
@@Yumais A lot of people don't like jumping puzzles and a lot of people really struggle with them. In situations where revives are limited I think jumping puzzles should also be very limited.
Yeah, this is my only concern with the battlegrounds as strikes. They feel very much balanced around those seasonal upgrades. Not a deal breaker, but definitely slows things down.
@@benamende5897And just as many people like jumping puzzles and see them as a welcome change to the usual boring transitions between areas. We have like 30 activities in vanguard ops and 5 max have jumping puzzles. Really not a big deal.
We love bros helping bros. The fact Datto and Leopard put this together right on the way to GCX is amazing. Gotta love the dedication to the community from someone who could have just enjoyed a day off and talked to us later.
@@rpa7066 He’s out of state for GCX, away from his set up and his usual means of posting. If he wasn’t with Leopard, or if he couldn’t use another means to record and post, we wouldn’t have the content anyway. How dare Datto take the means from his personal time to deliver content to us when he didn’t necessarily have to.
The issue with the Ritual Armor sets is this: -They said they would release a set annually. Not only did they not do that this time around, but it’s not until nearly 6 months have passed that they’re even acknowledging it. -“Not having the resources” is the BIGGEST load of crap I’ve heard, considering for Eververse, every season, there are 2 armor sets added PER class, every 3 months, for a total of 8 armor sets annually, or 24 if you’re counting each class. Not having ANY spare time or resources in a CALENDAR YEAR to slap together ONE armor set, is just a complete joke frankly. -Throwing it back in our face about how “they’re not engaged with anyways” is next level gas lighting. It’s not engaged with because it’s been the most basic leather crap armor sets from the jump. If you gave us something actually desirable fashion wise, maybe we’d Transmog it, OR, if you could give the armor pieces a chance to drop above 55 Total Stats here and there, it could even just be our base armor under our Universal Ornaments That just felt like the biggest slap in face on multiple fronts.
The fuck would gear that can drop above 55 Total stat be in a ritual playlist? Ritual ANYTHING is just supposed to be your starter legendary gear if you've got nothing better.
@@trendwardI mean, is there any actual argument against these sets dropping with higher stats? Hell, why not hand out artifice versions for completing the NF with an especially high score?
datto, dont fool yourself. when you read the sentence: "it has becoe increasingly difficult to create new ritual armor sets" dont yout think they are just laughing at you like: "omg watch this, so now we dont do what we said we would do and then say its hard for us to do and be like all its not me its you..." like are you already in an abusive relationship that u just skip past that like "nah this is normal bro"
I think while Gambit might have lower engagement overall - I might be more inclined to play knowing that everyone who is in there is there because they want to be. Gambit can be decently fun for me when everyone knows what to do and isn't just trying to get their pinnacle/bounties. I'm prepared to get smacked even more in PVP though...
Gambit has lower engagement because they've removed more maps than they've added, completely ruined the ammo economy, refused to even touch xenophage, added 0 variety to invader spawns, added next to no variety in terms of ad spawns, they've basically said "we don't know how to fix gambit even tho we're the ones who broke it" Gambit is arguably my favourite pvp mode in the game, it has this loop that is so easily addictive but they refuse to tap into it. Gambit prime was fucking great and they removed it
More likely that it will be predominantly populated by gambit mains who will crush any new or casual gambit players. It may end up like Trials of the Nine was, a very small very sweaty pool.
@scirrhia_kruden I'm apparently in the top 250 of gambit players according to destiny tracker, and let me tell you, there are some people who even I want to quit playing when I'm against them... there are some seriously good fucking gambit players who will roll you so hard you won't even know what happened
@@Neon_tedious that’s kinda the point for invader. Listen there are three spots an invader can spawn in on (two, because a invader will never spawn in the area of the current wave). A quick google search will show the spawn locations. Then it’s a cointoss where they are going to show up. A honed edge x4 shot from izanagi’s from somewhere on the map were you can see where they spawn and boom insta dead invader. Eventually you just start getting a feel for where they’ll come from.
fr lmao whose fault do they think it is that nobody uses it? nobody uses it because its ugly and it sucks. so just... make it not ugly and terrible??????
Exactly. They’re just asking for criticism now. They make shitty armour but put good armour in eververse, then blame the players claiming it’s our fault that we’re not getting new armour 😂
@@choerrycola7666we're just going yo ignore all the other armor that releases every season? You're acting like there isn't new armor EVER. It's only the ritual playlists that didn't get updated.
they've tried a lot of things with Gambit, except the feedback we gave immediately upon its implementation. Heavy Ammo should NOT be as common in the mode
I'd argue it should be more common for dps purposes, but it's oppressive for invasions. I think the best solution would be disabling heavy weapons for invaders and adding a larger heavy ammo crate at the beginning of primeval dps
The lack of new armor sets boils down to two things. One, you were right how they all looked similar, they all had the base set and the based on the activity, the decal was different. The reason they aren't memorable or used is because they all look the same regardless of decal. It's entirely on Bungie for taking that route. I don't know the time they had to design it but coupled with point 2, it's unacceptable in my opinion. Point 2 is the fact that while we can't get a new armor set in 2 years, eververse gets a brand new armor set every single season. Sometimes more than one. And that armor definitely feels like they put full effort into it with the solar, void, and arc armor sets having effects. What's stopping them from having the Vanguard logo glow on the Vanguard set? The snakes glowing or moving on the Gambit set? They have that ability but it's been consistently saved for Eververse sets. That's the gripe me and other people have. All of this effort for brand new, paid armor sets sometimes costing $20, while we don't even get one free set shared by the 3 ritual activities because "people don't want to transmog it".
@@soupgirl1871we’re not talking about endgame content. We’re talking about ritual armour sets. If bungie wants to continue making shitty ritual armour sets, so be it. But don’t then blame the players for the fact they’re not used, and why new armour sets won’t come. This guy is spot on
You also get seasonal armor, plus a full set of ornament gear from the pass. Dungeon gear 2x per year. Event gear, and reprised gear sets for newer players. Idk why anyone is hung up on the 1 mid set that no one used? Treating it like this big "gotcha" moment to prove that bungie makes money with eververse sets. They make money because people buy them, no one is forcing anyone to purchase them. And the best armor sets in the last few seasons were all from the season pass or the new dungeon so 😅.
@@giogonzalez821 People are using it as a gotcha because Bungo's own reasoning for not choosing to deliver on making yearly ritual activity armour sets, is that not enough people use them neither as base sets nor as ornaments. The base set point is entirely moot and Bungo are only making themselves look like fools that don't even understand their own game, but the ornament part is also silly because of course usage rate is low, when the armour sets are pretty unpopular. Bungo are essentially setting up these armour sets for failure, and then going "we won't make more because they don't have high usage", which is what happens when you make largely unpopular sets.
Correct, because he eventually learned to temper his expectations- if you look at his early destiny 1 videos he came up with strike concepts, how to make the gamer much harder etc (essentially what kujay does now). After a couple of years he stopped doing "how to make destiny better" type content because he knew bungies design philosophy would never align with his, hence why he's much more chilled and enjoys the game more now.
Datto definitely summarized how I feel, whelmed. A lot of words for a lot we already know or felt and little in the way of big structural changes. I have my hopes for the showcase but I’ll hold my excitement back a little.
Worry not, they'll show us something pretty like gardians swinging across skyscrapers from one to another with a lot of verticality! Oh, and they'll bank on cayde. Edit: ok, I might be a little bit distrustful of bungie. My post made me realize how far they turned me. I really don't take a single thing they show or say for real until we see it. May TFS be more like WQ and less like LF.
This honestly feels more like clearing their bad news (Gambit on life support, ritual armor sets, etc.) before the showcase so that they showcase can be a 'happy moments' instead
Why tho? If they're part of the story I ain't gonna remember or care when run them again, plus unless they're GMs I ain't gonna be running them 10 times per day
On the armor set rewards: I’m getting a little annoyed with Datto basically coming straight out and saying “Bungie shouldn’t be criticized for not fulfilling the commitments they’ve made on armor because all of the armor Bungie has made for playlists looks the same anyways” Datto, that is exactly the problem.
10 years. 10 years and we get a word soup business jargon write up with the key bullet points reading like •Gambit sucks, •PvP lol •We don’t wanna make any new armor sets because nobody likes them (which is also an issue because they generally look like garbage) I appreciate Datto’s neutral, calm, collected read, but man come on, a lot of these changes or lack there of coming almost 10 years down the road is a bit ridiculous.
Just this 🤣 Year 1 of D2: OMG we hate PvP its just team shooting gun play its not the Destiny we know. 6 Years Later: OMG can't we just have a PvP team shooting mode that's all about gun play and not Destiny power fantasy.
@@StorseBut you have to raid to get it. A lot of people play Destiny and never raid. Hammerhead was very accessible. A good developer takes players feedback and implements it in a way to give players what they need, not exactly what they asked for. I'm sure this guy would be okay with a new void adaptive machine gun being added to nightfall loot with updated perks.
Honeslty, I'm hopeful that if they ever bring it back they change it's damage type, we already have a lot of good void one but very from other elements But yeah, please bring black armory weapons back
Just give us back black armory weapons period. They are some of the best looking weapons in the series. Hammerhead and blast furnace were major reasons I got through pve and pvp content back in the day
My only two gripes about adding battle grounds to the strike playlist, is 1: The bluest of Berries seem to struggle with the mechanics of some BGs, such as the Burden of Tribute on the Moon Psi Ops, or lasering the Hive Runes in the Seraph BGs, so I end up soloing a lot of mechanics, and 2: I miss the seasonal upgrades we earned prevuously. Having to dodge the lasers in the heist BGs just feels bad after being able to just run straight through them.
strikes are there to help people get accustomed to the game, and battlegrounds are more in line with current content than some other strikes. If blue berries struggle, either let them and let them learn on their own, or help them out when you see them.
My only gripe with BGs at strikes/GMs is the infinite enemy spawns in some sections. Previous strikes are a finite experience to be mastered. Infinite enemies do not reward strategy, they reward speed.
Exactly. The first section of Mars Battlegrounds is the worst part of Destiny. Sit in this area so the number can go up all the while constantly being shot and slapped from all directions. After that is the second worst part of Destiny: Ghost being the worst hacker ever.
Tbh defending the no new armor sets almost makes you look like a Bungie sellout...its the principle. They could make it look as good as eververse armor but they choose not to. They couldve made one for their most expensive DLC thus far and they havent. Says a lot about what they set as their goals.
Datto I can't tell you how nice it is to hear someone be rational as opposed to just getting upset at everything Bungie says. Respect you for keeping it real 👊
You do see the problem with the “All the old ritual armor sets were forgettable, I don’t care to get new ones if they don’t look good” and them using that as an excuse as to why they didn’t make a new set right? Bungie is trying to blame us for not being interested in their low effort sets as the reason why they don’t put effort into new making new free sets. You should not be apathetical about this Datto.
They absolutely have not “tried” with Gambit. They more or less abandoned it after one year. Slightly tweaking the rule set a couple of times is not “trying.” I’m also not sure why you keep saying you “get it” about them not being able to make content for PVP and Gambit because if they do they “can’t” make content like Exotic missions. The balance is clearly off, I think what you mean is you don’t care because it’s currently balanced towards the stuff you want. One way they could easily get better return on investment is making maps that work for both Crucible AND Gambit. Even repurposing maps from each for the other as is. This game is EXPENSIVE, Datto. And getting more expensive even as the content dwindles. “We don’t have the resources” is never an excuse. If they don’t have the resources to make content, they should be cutting the prices. Not raising them.
It just kinda crossed my mind but why has Bungie not explored the idea of a push/defend the payload crucible gamemode. They already have the core ground works of it with the darkness payload eg. Lake of Shadows Strike rework. I think it would be really interesting if they straight up took that part of the strike and had it become 6v6. I know it would be something similar to Overwatch but I think it would be an interesting and new dynamic to the playlist. Just my opinion though.
I think that could be really fun, but all of the aoe/crowd control abilities and things like cloudstrike would probably make it a miserable experience to be on the attacking team
I thought a game mode like you said would make gambit alive again but it would be more like exoprimal so it’ll still be pve n pvp. Let there be a 5v5 teamfight at the very end or let there be an objective you must accomplish during the pvp part and it won’t be just 1 player it’ll be the whole team being involved
im actually surprised datto waved off the ritual armor thing missing. Saying they dont have resources to make this one armor set for the base game when they make so many eververse armors every year. I thought I remember Datto being like the most anti-eververse person when it was first introduced to the game so I thought he would make that argument. personally this article made me lose all hope for the game. Just felt like they were admitting to giving up on doing anything other than the bare minimum. the only thing i liked was them saying final shape and its raid would be the end and not drawn out over a whole year
Bungie intentionally made the ritual armor unattractive to push silver sets. If your excuse is its fine that they lied the armor is ugly anyway, thats their intentions.
Giving bungie pass about not being able to create new content due to lack of resources especially after buying expansions, seasons, and eververse. Always under delivering. I think we all forgot how little lightfall the expansion came with, for the highest expansion price yet. They have all the resources they need to be able to create new content for all parts of the game, but instead it’s going to there other projects and destiny is being left behind. The reason why all the playlist armor looks so bad is because they want you to be driven to the eververse for the cool looking set that you can buy.
I have reached a point with a lot of the D2 CC that excluding Datto, I dropped almost all of them. Look I can get enough doomsaying without adding Destiny to that mix. I will play this game till I decide not to, then move on to another game. That is it have a good day.
You’re shilling! You should be upset about the armor. If they can pull their resources and make dope ass armor sets for EV… then there shouldn’t be a problem with making our vendor sets. How about we swap whoever is making the EV armor with the guys that make the vendor armor.
I'm late so no one is going to read this, but I'm leaving the comment anyway. The section about deep dive touches on one of Destiny's most frustrating points of failure. I've lost count how many times I've said something along the line of "this is a great start, and if they took this further, it could be amazing" in Destiny. That phrase is Destiny. Remember when that adventure on Mercury came out and everyone was like "this is the closest to a horde mode we've seen, and if they went a little further with this concept, it would be great"? And they *never do.* Never. Destiny will dabble with so many awesome concepts and, while we see it as a great start, they see it as a checklist. Horde activity? Check. Roguelite? Check. I would be shocked if they expanded on the deep dive concept in the future.
"We could make a new gambit map for a mode with low engagement because we haven't done nearly anything for it in like 2 years, or we could add another exotic mission that you'll play like twice" is such a wild sentence to me. Like, for the amount of effort put into an exotic mission, they could probably make a gambit map and a crucible map.
For the record, True Vanguard was on DCP on tells us straight up why we don't get much of anything in the playlist. He knows people at Bungie and he said the higher ups won't let them make stuff because there is no money in it because that content is "free to play". Ture Vanguard doesn't strike me as a liar.
For the new nightfalls, I love the challenge and feeling of beating the GM for the first time! However, I generally expect champion spam, crowded boss arena, and a platinum bug. Additionally, optimal clear times are inflated and LFG experience can be worse on these nightfalls. I put these into a “clear once” category. I wouldn’t mind a new entry that was challenging but farmable.
I mean the armor thing wouldn’t sting as much if they didn’t consistently make better looking armor in eververse every season. Why not make 1 good set for free every year? Kinda wild. edit: In the “ritual” activities specifically is what I should’ve put.
There are dozens of good sets each expansion and every season, not including eververse. The mid armour made for people who are new and need starter legendary gear is very much an outlier, not the norm
My personal problem with battlegrounds entering the strike and nightfall / gm playlists is that bungie will / has put more focus on having battlegrounds be a seasons activity rather than more unique activities that wouldn't work as strikes. I had a lot more fun this season grinding deep dives than I did back in season of the seraph grinding heist battlegrounds. I don't at all mind current battlegrounds getting added to the nightfall rotation, but for seasonal activities I would rather bungie focused on creating more unique activities (at least unique to destiny). I understand bungie has to balance creating new strikes (battlegrounds at this point) vs creating unique seasonal activities that will go away at the end of the year (which is a more problem that bungie created for themselves), and looking at it like that I don't mind the current status quo of basically alternating every other season with battlegrounds and non-battleground seasonal activities, but I really wish they wouldn't go too far towards focusing only on battlegrounds.
My problem with battlegrounds gms is the length, if battlegrounds were modified to be as hard as they are or harder but faster to clear than the easier strikes, then I would really like them, currently they are harder and slower which makes me feel like my time in them is unrewarding when i could just farm a shorter and easier strike like fallen saber or devil's lair. I wish I had incentive to play them more than once for conquerer guilding
Completely agree! They are a good one time challenge, but are unpleasant for farming. It would be nice if there was a little more variety in length/farm ability for new nightfalls.
I have zero issue with the difficulty; but I can understand why some players may have that issue, older/disabled gamers could struggle on those and they shouldn't be put into a basic playlist for that reason. They are generally just a decent chunk longer to clear. ~5-10 minutes is a good length to just drop in and drop out of the playlist whenever you need to. Battlegrounds can take ~15-25 minutes on average. Lightblade is an offender on the strike side, it's just really long, especially with the boat section, you just can't speed things up with higher skill. And unless you are a TCrash Titan, that swamp is gonna be fairly slow too, even with keeping as much darkness at bay as possible with the lamps. On top of all that, I tend to get more battlegrounds than strikes. My fireteam was getting silver leaves for the solstice event yesterday, we got NINE battlegrounds in a row, our 10th was finally a strike... and it was Lightblade... talk about getting a kick in the teeth. If there was a system to just alternate between strike/battleground each run, or simply putting battlegrounds into a separate playlist of the Vanguard Ops, that's be preferable. My suggestion would to simply bring up a similar screen as to the difficulty selection on the Nightfall node; on the Vanguard Ops playlist instead. With a short description stating the difference between the content. Give battlegrounds slightly more drops/shards/glimmer at the end to balance out that they are generally the middle ground between basic strike playlist nd basic nightfall in terms of difficulty and length.
its honestly so wholesome to see the community go from calling Datto an elitist to shill to valued to community member to overly negative to shill to elitist to shill to overly negative to valued community member to shill to valued community member and now once again a shill. I am not joking when I say this, the destiny 2 community has changed opinions on Datto in that exact order and I can label the changes by year if you need me to.
Datto is the best when it comes to addressing things like this. He keeps it real, and even if it sucks, he doesn't make you feel like shit if you still enjoy the game.
Seriously. Datto recognizes that not everything bungie is doing is great but he’s actually being realistic about these issues. And he understands not everything can be the way we want it to be. And he’s not willing to ‘shill…? I think that’s the word’ in the videos and make videos specifically to get views from those players who are overwhelmingly negative. It’s ok to be critical of a game you love but that doesn’t mean make everyone who enjoys the game still feel like they’re the asshole for liking it. Bungie isn’t evil and we’re not victims, Datto seems like he actually understands that, while he’s still critical of bungie.
@@josephfreitag568 I also like how so many people are trying to say anyone who plays the game is a shill, just because they are enjoying themselves instead of riding the hate train.
I think the “we can’t make maps bc we couldn’t make story content” and “we won’t make annual armor sets” are big issues you just kind of glanced over. D2 keeps getting more expensive with less content for core playlists. They obv moved their crucible team but they have the funds to bring in people to focus on that. Yeah the annual sets are usually bad but they could make them cool and make it something to work towards but instead they put 20+ armor sets a year in eververse. It seems you’re more so apathetic which I understand I just wish you could be a stronger voice for what a lot of the community is feeling atm since you’re respected by bungie
This is one of the reasons I think D2 is coming to a close, they're generally just abandoning PvP and Gambit, focusing on the main story end and pushing as much microtransactions as possible before the end. Squeeze as much out of the playerbase as possible before the final shape then turn the game into just a seasonal model with minimal changes, no more big updates, no next saga, just a few new bits to farm every 4 months from old content and they can move onto Marathon.
My favourite part was Datto looking down to his wrist to see how much time was left to the showcase, it was made even better because there was no watch there.
The only reason why I am so against battlegrounds being introduced into Strike playlists is that I don’t enjoy playing a full season of them just to have to play them again. I like the idea of them being seasonal, and this is a unique scenario where I want reprised content. I loved the old strike and I feel that they should reincorporate them back into the game in one way or another. Every season bring back a few into the mix to give us a feeling of nostalgia, test our memory, and make us work.
> Says He doesn't care about pvp as long as it's a miserable experience. > Procedes to make fun of people that complain about pvp being a miserable sandbox in the very next topic. LOL
Datto, it sounds like you're coping. And I don't say that just to be mean. Your conclusion really just sounds like you're trying to find every way to say it sucked without saying it.
New pvp maps provide different ways of engaging in pvp, from your general strategy, placement, loadout, etc. New maps would help keep pvp alive and healthy. The lack of them is a big L
I hate to be the one who brings this up, but I imagine it's very hard to justify the creation of new pvp maps when the last time they made one the community hated it so much that they had to remove it from most of the playlists that it was in. That's one of the things where I think I would be perfectly fine blaming the community for that. Disjunction was not nearly as bad as people kept saying it was, and the fact that we got a new crucible map at all was something worth celebrating, but instead we had an angry mob justifying bungie's decision to dedicate less and less resources into crucible.
@@dylansams4064 I mean, it’s where a good deal of my dissatisfaction comes from. Used to play a bunch of call of duty and the big thing I loved with those were the dlcs bringing 4 new maps.

@@dredgentruth3455the community is at fault for not liking Disjunction? Aside from feeling awful, it’s literally a reskin of Frontier from D1, why would people be excited for the first new map they get in years to be so poorly designed? Why not a Braytech/Europa map, something that looks nice, as opposed to vomit everywhere? Edit: it’s not unlike the situation with Gambit, the vendor armor, etc. Bungie releases things that the community doesn’t like, doesn’t get the engagement, and then blames the community as an excuse to not try. Underdelivering self-fulfilling prophecies is literally their formula now, and you’re on board.
22:59 This is a reductive take from you and Bungie. People aren’t wearing the armor? Here’s a novel idea for free, make it actually look good instead of a bunch of hob cobbled junk. But then that would mean Bungie couldn’t make money off of it by putting it in eververse so maybe I’m the fool.
So as usual, a youtuber who makes money with the game is not going to criticize the game all that much (even though we see that he's been depressed for 3 years now and would love to go on a sabbatical yesterday). I don't wanna be overly negative, but it's the truth. Datto, really? Vanguard medals? This makes you happy? Destiny 2 as a whole is pure garbage and can't even come close to D1.
>at random search datto >scroll >1 minute ago, new post incredible. Definitely agree with the check-up and salad analogy. People need to keep in mind a showcase is coming in a few weeks, lots of (as usual) unnecessary negativity included with needed feedback. I certainly wonder how much of “Beyond…” will be teased at the showcase, and what will wait to be shown as the post campaign / raid. I think my biggest problem lies in… EV devtime investment rather than going to playable rewards, which of course won’t get mentioned.
if bungie were to come out today and say we are done making new guns because it’s too hard datto would still say it’s okay and throw them 100$ for the next dlc lmao

What do you meeeean?!?! All i hear is bungie doing bad design, then complains that players don't engage with it so no point in doing more armor sets or more maps. This is idiotic.
Imagine saying “we don’t have the capacity to make more stuff for pvp or gambit” when you literally split up your studio to make like 2-3 other projects. Like yeah no shit you don’t have the resources. Idk why they moved people when it’s the games biggest climax and is supposed to wow people…”hey our games about to reach its peak in its story and content over the last 10 years, so yeah let’s just 1/2 our development team and resources to make other games”.
I mean same reason why blizzard or bethesda are making multiple projects at the same time. Have to make products to sell and then expand to make even more stuff whether its good or not is a different issue
I think the whiplash the community is feeling is mainly due to expectations. Many people were hopeful and expecting large overhauls to Gambit and Crucible because that's what those modes need. What we instead received was the *official* beginning of ending the game, and confirmation that the current stagnation and decline are intended as they continue to wind down development. You can't make a post that literally says, yes we see all your feedback about the bad state of these modes, and yes we will not be doing anything about it. As soon as you make that post, the game is ending. Bungie knows this.
It really doesnt help that people were huffing mega copium with the "Leaks" that got posted with such high expectations The game however isnt ending. They already are talking about stuff after The Final shape
The confirmed leaks of the new power system from last season is that the fireteam's power is set to that of the highest power Guardian. Thats the "removed barrier."
Dude I just feel like Datto runs defense for Bungie every time they do something bad. Underwhelming is an understatement, you can't go into these things expecting nothing and leaving with less and saying it's underwhelming. That's just being overly generous over something that it seems to be done with almost a malicious attempt to get as much money from us with as little work as possible from Bungie. Lightfall is the new low from Bungie
Checkmate is the thing I'm most excited about from this post. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I loved Year 1's bigger focus on gunplay and slower time to kill. I never got the arguments about "Why would you want a mode that removes everything special about Destiny?" SWAT was a mode that did something similar in Halo (Removed long time to kill and power weapon control, 2 of the biggest fundamentals of Halo) and that's probably Halo's most popular mode outside of the core game modes.
Destiny has fun gunplay. Removing abilities from PVP (not that I'm suggesting they do that, I haven't played this game in years so I couldn't care less what they do,) doesn't mean the game feels like everything else now. There's still plenty of things that make the game feel unique. When I used to play PVP, I think I would have enjoyed a mode with no abilities.
Checkmate is the literal opposite of mayhem and im all for it. Abilities arent completely gone but now instead of spamming them you really have to think about how to use them to get the most out of it.
Honestly. Remove the seasonal activities, add strikes, legendary missions, pvp maps or modes and gambit maps, you can decide how much should be added per season. Sure, we won’t have much to do outside of these 4, but I’d rather have content that stays in the game over seasonal content designed to be removed
What bugged me the most about this SotG, you can cut about 500 words by just removing filler words. And probably another 200-300 for repititions. Also, not a lot of actual news in this.
Yeah, the vendor armor was just different decals for each ritual playlist on the same set of armour. What is weird to me is how does Bungie not realize thats why people aren't using those ornaments. Maybe actually make them unique to each other. Every class should have 1 unique set from each vendor. Now, if thats just not feasible, then say that. But I don't want to hear "historically we don't see a lot of usage for these sets as base armour or ornaments", because of course you don't. For a while you have been skimping on the effort put into those sets, just making 3 sets and turning it into 9 with different decals. It's the effort put into them that influences their usage, not a magical influence that makes players not want to wear them. And for being the base ritual activities, I think they are important enough to dedicate that time for. Lot's of the magic of playing in the world of Destiny has been lost for me because I can't spec myself to be a Gambit monster Titan who really looks like it. But whatever, Gambit is probably going to get bricked eventually.
At 22:29 We have had 4 different armor sets for Crucible, Vanguard, and Gambit. The most recent iteration for all 3 (Clutch Extol, Photosuede, and Viperdax respectively) have identical geometry, but different patterns, so I see your critisizm there. I personally like the look of the sets, but not any of the patterns, so on all 3 characters I unlocked all 5 pieces from the blue tier as ornaments. (Titans have Midnight Oil, Hunters have Gumshoe Gumption and Warlocks have Inspector's.) So they made one armor set for witch queen and just threw a pattern on 3/4 to call it different sets. If they wanna make just one new armor set for the ritual playlist I'm game honestly. The problem is the last new set before Witch Queen was back during Season 14 The Splicer. Then before that was Rasputin DLC in year 1, and finally back to Vanilla D2 for the 4th. They reissued the Wing sets in Arrivals so I can't remember where it initially came from.
Remember the Illicit armour for Gambit? Quite good looking sets for all 3 classes, but the problem was the brown leather boots that don't change with any shader. You apply your favourite shader thinking nice, then you see those dirty brown leather boots and it completely spoils the look. That's a big issue for me.
Bungie: “we are listening to feed back” community : we need more PvP maps and strikes Also Bungie : “they are too expensive, here are battle grounds you already don’t want to play in season and you are lucky to get 1 PvP map a year..
This just came across as perpetually hoping for the future. Also it felt like you were taking a page out of the Bungie PR book with the face-value acceptance that they can't do 'X thing because it takes away from Y'. This is literally one of the most successful live service games out right now, Bungie is a billion dollar company with a thousand-plus employees, and they talk to the community like they are a small independent company with less than 100 staff. They were able to put Taken King with 8 PVP maps, 4 new strikes with 3 revised ones; Forsaken with 4 PVP maps, the entire Gambit mode variations, and 4 strikes. They are a bigger company since then, and we should expect better than this. Treating strike playlists, gambit and crucible as something not important when it is literally the core of the game when they campaign ends is crazy to me. This game becoming free-to-play was the worst thing to happen to core playlists, and it shows every day. Bungie also not talking about the new light experience should have been the biggest issue if they want to keep pretending they are a free-to-play game, and they didn't. So I don't expect any updates to existing content in the game because its either free or old content that less people pay for.
While i agree that the state of pvp needs to be better over more maps, i also believe they need to relaunch old maps and get rid of map weight so that we dont see the same map 5 games in a row or the same 5 maps for a whole season. Variety would help A LOT with making pvp less boring over multiple games

thanks for this video datto, not only did you not even have to make it since youre very busy with GCX, but your conclusion delivered it in a way I needed to hear. good stuff, really.
Overall, this SotG was quite possibly the worst case scenario. That's the quick stuff. If anyone bothers to read the reasoning here you go, starting with how I, as someone who has been with Destiny through the roughest moments up till here, at the end. That article is a complete slap in the face to anyone that has played the game prior to Beyond Light. It only spat out info that we already knew, with exception to maybe 3 or 4 bits we were surprised with, and the rest of the article sat down and spat in the face of everyone that had criticism by saying they're doubling down on EVERYTHING. From their lazy approach to the last few seasons and lightfall, to how they're balancing and "adding" to core Playlists. Knowing what bungie is capable of, and having played the peak of the game (IMO it was Opulence, though arrivals makes a good contender), it is just full on sad to watch bungie not only ignore some feedback, but to do they exact opposite with some, and Gambit is the perfect example, showing how if something would require too much effort to make good, it would be better in their eyes to outright abandon it. And Gambit isn't the only case of this, with PVP being left to rot and Dares of Eternity being turned into a seasonal weapon slot machine. For anyone looking for a more in depth analysis of the bigger points, here you go: "Difficulty": The casuals can stop here because you'll hate that I agree with the big bad Saltagreppo, but holy shit, why are they happy with difficulty based off off NEOMUNA PATROL??!! HELLO?! As if RoN wasn't the easiest day 1 to date, having more day 1 clears than most raids, and more day 1+2 clears than every other raid COMBINED. I get that day one raids are quite literally only twice a year, but that's WHY they need to be special, and need to be competitive. There should be no reason at all that the emblem earned for watching the raid is rared than the emblem for clearing it on contest, THAT is the most pathetic "challenge" since they started their campaign to make the game challeneging. And speaking of Campaigns, why was the lightfall campaign only remotely challenging on legend in a fireteam of three? Soloing the legend campaign, which is supposed to be a genuinely challenging experince(proved by witch queen), is laughable. Not to mention Legend lost sectors, which were made laughably easy too, or maybe Grandmaster content, which is only made artifically difficult by merit of Battlegrounds, but we'll get to those later. The only difficulty in the game right now is chewing through millions of health on dungeon bosses, and trying you best to survive bullshit mechanics like GM instadeath from bad sources (Lucent knights are actual aids with the supressor nades). For reference to the health issue, the Hive wizard Summumah, final boss of GotD has more health than Nezarec, the Final God of Pain at the end of a raid. If that alone isnt telling as to why their philosophy on making content challenging is bad, then you likely arent playing high end content to begin with, and despite what bungie may believe, NOT ALL CONTENT SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO THE CASUAL PLAYER. Moving on the the big three dead elephants in the room Gambit: Absolutely the worst change here. Beyond deaf response to simply stop all work on Gambit outside of giving one map back. And the reason is even worse, with no updates because no players play it. When in reality, no one plays it BECAUSE IT HASNT BEEN TOUCHED AT ALL IN ONE AND A HALF YEAR. Like, come on, the answer is staring them in the face. Both of the other Playlist activities not only have high end and competitive modes, Gambit HAD that and LOST it with Beyond Light. It would literally be as simple as going back to pre-Beyond light with both Prime and Reckoning and boom, Playlist healthier than it is right now by 10x. Nit much more to say, but holy shit Gambit is nearly as big a tragedy as lightfalls story has been PvP: I gave up here a long time ago. I can accept not having a good Meta, and I can accept not having many maps. However, I cannot wrap my head around not having teams dedicated to stuff like this. The fact that one new map once a year takes away from content not related to pvp is utterly stupid. This game literally prints money for them, and they time and time again fail to use it in places that matter right here and now. Not much else to say because pvp stopped being balanced when Subclass 3.0 came out Strikes: I gotta say, I absolutely hate battlegrounds. They 100% do not feel like a classic destiny Strike whatsoever, and it isn't entirely at fault of the activity For starters, they are literally seasonal content made free by technicality, and without ANY seasonal benefits. There's no narrative cohesion with them once their season is gone, and it's why I don't much like proving grounds either. OG strikes don't and didn't feel like parts of the main story, but instead side stories and threats that were necessarily major, but had to be dealt with. Battlegrounds, in most cases, are three of the same activity, plastered across three locations, with stakes that do not matter story wise whatsoever, and do not give any rewards originally attached to the activities What's even worse about them, is that they just feel like a spit in the face for people that wanted actual strikes, and people still advocating for Strike-specific loot. These are quite literally the easiest ways to implement Strike specific loot, they could just put seasonal weapons in these and add a few specific weapons to the ones that are missing them rather than bring back another old weapon and slapping the word (Adpet) on it. I didn't much care originally, but it's really sad to see one of the most flavorful and memorable parts of doing strikes be left to rot And for the worst offense yet, they absolutely do not give the feeling of a strike. The bosses feel like a patrol enemy thematically, and the activities themselves (mostly boss rooms) are geared for when the activities had seasonal modifiers / buffs from artifacts and tables/vendors. So they come out feeling extra bland on the low end, and on the high end (ex. Grandmasters) feels oppressive. And the last two seasons are perfect proof, with battleground: Mars and this season, PsiOps being the two hardest GMs added to date, and not in a healthy way, to the point that the Mars one got a nerf In fact, I think the vanguard Playlist is genuinely in trouble. They don't really add any new strikes, and instead just paste in old seasonal content, which they then warped the Playlist around. They started to base modifiers and weight on the existence of battlegrounds, and the changing is proven by the absolute massacre of Lake of Shadows, and soon to be Inverted Spire, both of which were notorious for being fast but FUN. The whole SotG left me pretty disappointed, but the fact that Gambit is officially dead really starts blaring alarms that PvP will follow soon and Strikes won't even be Strikes anymore. All in all, the core Playlist activities are looking very sad, and all are a victim of bad development. I know game dev hard, at this point I think the whole community knows, but we've heard it for so long that we can't take that excuse anymore, and every time bungie digs their hole deeper, the more I look to the worst thing they've ever said "Beware of Overdelivery, You're setting Patterns!" And I know everyone has said it already, but it really can't be said enough. Why was there nothing said on the state of microtransactions and pay walls in destiny? They get money from Silver, dungeons, seasons, expansions, and events. That's the entire eververse store and then the rest of the game minus the 2 (soon to be 3) raids and 1 dungeon available F2P. Not to mention the oodles of cash they got when Sony acquired them, and EVEN MORE from the endless lawsuits they have against cheat providers. There isn't a world you can convince me that every drop of that is being given to shareholders/paychecks, and even if only 5% of that is being directed at destiny, that should be WAYYY more than enough to support a larger team capable of providing the updates and changes that the game DESPERATELY needs Anyways, rant over. Thanks if you read it all, I guess. If you find something wrong, point it out, or if you disagree, tell me why. I love seeing things from other's perspective. Aside from that, unless this showcase manages to fix at least some of the more glaring issues, I'm gone after Final Shape, and so are most other people that otherwise would've been diehard. There are simply better games with better devs teams and communication for us to give our dedication to, and sadly bungie probably won't see it and continue down the same path with Matter and Marathon, given how tone deaf they were today. I really want Bungie to prove me wrong, but I'm not hopeful, expectant, or anything. Just tired
its so interesting seeing the variety of opinions on this SOTG. many people getting really mad it some are whelmed about it. it was interesting seeing datto get really hyped about vanguard medals and having a generally sober approach to a lot of what was presented. "everyone was asking/not asking for XYZ" isnt really *everyone*
It's bungies fault on the Playlist armor, you can't make a boring armor set then complain people don't use it. If they actually made the set look good then people would use it.
i think my issue with the vendor armor refresh is that it’s quite basic looking with poor stat rolls, thus the low adoption, i think if they bumped up the stats and instead of several new eververse sets each season they could move one (even if just with recolours for other playlists) to the core activities that would be great and player adoption would jump right up
I just disagree with the armor argument, "I wasn't going to use it anyway". People would use it if it was useful or good-looking. Maybe Bungie should improve rather than ignore it. In 2 years, all transmog will be on eververse. Because you know we weren't going to use it anyway. Now Gambit, Bungie's argument, "People weren't going to play it anyway". So they ignore it. When we low our standards, Bungie states a new one based on it.
The worse thing about the Ritual Armor one is they say they cant make 1 new armor every year but they have enough manpower to make 4 to 6 ornament sets in the game.
"if you want the maps we've been promising for years and delivered exactly 1 of, it's gonna have to take away from other content because reasons. Also don't forget to pre-order Marathon"

For the vendor rank up, if you're in the tower and you claim a bounty or dismantle an item and it gives you enough to rank up the vendor, you have to go to orbit and then back to the tower to be able to claim the rank up engram. That is what they changed.

No idea how possible this is but a exotic weapon gun game mode could be really fun,
Literally no game was made worse because they added a gun game mode
There’s certainly a possibility with this. The last word quest had the weapon in a relic like state so I can see something like it exist but it probably is a difficult coding experience.
My brother joked with this back in D1. Since we have Mayhem, why can’t we make a game mode full of exotics, let players go wild with their imaginations and combinations.
Will it be broken, yes.
Is it meant to be broken, yes.
Will it be fun, absolutely.
Especially with all the exotic reworks and new exotics that come out so often, they’ll always be something new to try.

Funny how creating Eververse sets every season hasn't become increasingly challenging. Though they did skip the bright dust set this season, so I guess they're struggling with everything that's not silver-only 🤔
why do i have a sneaking suspicion that they did that on purpose?...

17:20 My one main complaint with battlegrounds in Vanguard Ops is that some of them feel like they were kind of balanced around players having the seasonal upgrades which they then don't have when they enter the Vanguard playlist (especially the security upgrades in the Seraph Battlegrounds so now it's back to lightly brushing your pinky toe against a laser being an insta-kill, which is especially galling in nightfalls and brings the pace to a screeching halt)
I feel this hard. I got caught in a self-rez then die cycle. i think i died like 15 times and no way to get out of it

The issue with the Ritual Armor sets is this:
-They said they would release a set annually.
If you gave us something actually desirable fashion wise, maybe we’d Transmog it, OR, if you could give the armor pieces a chance to drop above 55 Total Stats here and there, it could even just be our base armor under our Universal Ornaments
That just felt like the biggest slap in face on multiple fronts.
the stats on ritual sets are for new lights, people pay out the nose for eververse armour. the real stat/fashion shop is Xur
The fuck would gear that can drop above 55 Total stat be in a ritual playlist? Ritual ANYTHING is just supposed to be your starter legendary gear if you've got nothing better.

Gambit has lower engagement because they've removed more maps than they've added, completely ruined the ammo economy, refused to even touch xenophage, added 0 variety to invader spawns, added next to no variety in terms of ad spawns, they've basically said "we don't know how to fix gambit even tho we're the ones who broke it"
Gambit is arguably my favourite pvp mode in the game, it has this loop that is so easily addictive but they refuse to tap into it.
Gambit prime was fucking great and they removed it
More likely that it will be predominantly populated by gambit mains who will crush any new or casual gambit players. It may end up like Trials of the Nine was, a very small very sweaty pool.

they've tried a lot of things with Gambit, except the feedback we gave immediately upon its implementation. Heavy Ammo should NOT be as common in the mode

I wouldn't say it is saved for eververse, considering the amount of good sets that are from other modes such as Raids, Trials or the seasonal modes
@@giogonzalez821 agreed. the GOTD Taken King armor set is amazing.

@@sharktrap267yo imagine if they show a guardian sliding and shooting at the same time, unheard of😳
This honestly feels more like clearing their bad news (Gambit on life support, ritual armor sets, etc.) before the showcase so that they showcase can be a 'happy moments' instead
i still think we should be getting more than one new strike a year
Well we technically do but battlegrounds are a part of the season so they dont count. But bungie apparently does count them.
Why tho? If they're part of the story I ain't gonna remember or care when run them again, plus unless they're GMs I ain't gonna be running them 10 times per day
i think it's because we still haven's accepted battlegrounds as renamed strikes yet like bungie has
That’s too much work for bungie
I think we just overplayed the battlegrounds so much in the seasons that they came out that they feel boring to us now
On the armor set rewards: I’m getting a little annoyed with Datto basically coming straight out and saying “Bungie shouldn’t be criticized for not fulfilling the commitments they’ve made on armor because all of the armor Bungie has made for playlists looks the same anyways”
Datto, that is exactly the problem.
10 years. 10 years and we get a word soup business jargon write up with the key bullet points reading like
•Gambit sucks,
•PvP lol
•We don’t wanna make any new armor sets because nobody likes them (which is also an issue because they generally look like garbage)
I appreciate Datto’s neutral, calm, collected read, but man come on, a lot of these changes or lack there of coming almost 10 years down the road is a bit ridiculous.
Checkmate sounds to me like, "I heard you want the Vanilla sandbox back" so you're gonna see a lot more team shooting in that mode
Just this 🤣
Year 1 of D2: OMG we hate PvP its just team shooting gun play its not the Destiny we know.
6 Years Later: OMG can't we just have a PvP team shooting mode that's all about gun play and not Destiny power fantasy.
Not gonna lie, when I read the vanguard medals, I could imagine datto’s voice in my head going “whooooooooo baby” 😂

Bring back hammerhead
Commemoration is literally hammerhead but way better get your rose tinted glasses off your face.
@@StorseBut you have to raid to get it. A lot of people play Destiny and never raid. Hammerhead was very accessible. A good developer takes players feedback and implements it in a way to give players what they need, not exactly what they asked for. Honeslty, I'm hopeful that if they ever bring it back they change it's damage type, we already have a lot of good void one but very from other elements
But yeah, please bring black armory weapons back

Just give us back black armory weapons period. They are some of the best looking weapons in the series. Hammerhead and blast furnace were major reasons I got through pve and pvp content back in the day
Oi RUclips really needs to let us see dislikes again I’d love to see the ratio on this. The shilling is crazy
Feels like a real defender of the bungie video
The armors were very different and people are excited for new armor because there’s a slim possibility it could look great.
the highlight for me is them mentioning a new aggressive fusion, the first one in 2ish years since Coriolis Force came out with beyond light
Where is this mentioned?
Gambit with relics would be cool. I'm also wondering how they're going to implement the lucent hive into it.
I imagine it'll just be normal enemies but high value targets will be light bearers, of whenever there's mini boss enemies they'll be light bearers.
@@skydefender7554don’t forget the moths, they’ll probably be the more notable part of the lucent hive implementation

My only gripe with BGs at strikes/GMs is the infinite enemy spawns in some sections. Previous strikes are a finite experience to be mastered. Infinite enemies do not reward strategy, they reward speed.

@MATT-660 Don't even need to be a hunter main to have this take. Infinite enemies means infinite hammer bonks.
Battlegrounds are tough but they are fun imo
My biggest issue is the champion spawns screwing up champion rewards if you kill the champs in the wrong order.
If this was an episodes of Friends it would be titled: "The One Where Datto Applauds Bungie's Institutionalized Medicocrity."
"- Part 9"
Datto I can't tell you how nice it is to hear someone be rational as opposed to just getting upset at everything Bungie says. Respect you for keeping it real 👊
Hi Toad love your content to bro!
Datto: “PvP is in shambles, blah lol”
Also Datto: “MEDALS IN STRIKES FUUCK YEEEEEEAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!”
Making the exotic weapons craftable means that the exotic rotator is on a finite timeline until it's abandoned by the majority of the player base.
They actually did at one point, it was called Breakthrough, but it didn’t have a very big engagement rate so it was removed
@@junkoenoshima78 oh I do not remember that but ig thats why
I thought a game mode like you said would make gambit alive again but it would be more like exoprimal so it’ll still be pve n pvp. Let there be a 5v5 teamfight at the very end or let there be an objective you must accomplish during the pvp part and it won’t be just 1 player it’ll be the whole team being involved
Definitely one of the state of the games of all time in Destiny 2
im actually surprised datto waved off the ritual armor thing missing.
I hope they expand on deep dive its a good concept and good art

They just don’t care. Accept it.
They make plenty every major expansion?
There are dozens of good sets each expansion and every season, not including eververse. The mid armour made for people who are new and need starter legendary gear is very much an outlier, not the norm
You two forget those are behind a paywall. A single armor set per year on a free to play playlist won't bankrupt them.

When i'm running strikes, if a battleground comes up, i fly to orbit, and continue to do so until it gives me a strike instead of a battleground.
@@mikeisgettinupsetso you waste even more time just for an easier strike? i couldnt do that thatd just kill my mood to play in general
They should give more vanguard rep than strikes to justify the time difference to complete it
Datto has always been a Bungie defender.
Nobody sucks them off better
its honestly so wholesome to see the community go from calling Datto an elitist to shill to valued to community member to overly negative to shill to elitist to shill to overly negative to valued community member to shill to valued community member and now once again a shill.
Not to mention the ritual armor sets is the one thing they literally promised but failed to deliver but Datto just kind of ignores that entirely

Disjunction was not nearly as bad as people kept saying it was, and the fact that we got a new crucible map at all was something worth celebrating, but instead we had an angry mob justifying bungie's decision to dedicate less and less resources into crucible.
disagree. Maps incentivise a certain way to play with its design but lack of maps is not why people are so disatisfied with pvp

It’s also ugly af, but that’s just my opinion.

Bungie: makes the Vanguard armor set useless, low sub-60 stats.
Bungie: nobody uses them!? OK, i won't make them anymore...
Dafuq??? How about you, Bungie, make these armor sets like the Solstice armor with upgradable, rerollable stats, with Artifice variants from GMs... Then maybe people will want to use these armor sets!"?!?!?
Have to make products to sell and then expand to make even more stuff
whether its good or not is a different issue
I think the whiplash the community is feeling is mainly due to expectations. Many people were hopeful and expecting large overhauls to Gambit and Crucible because that's what those modes need.
What we instead received was the *official* beginning of ending the game, and confirmation that the current stagnation and decline are intended as they continue to wind down development.
You can't make a post that literally says, yes we see all your feedback about the bad state of these modes, and yes we will not be doing anything about it. As soon as you make that post, the game is ending.
Bungie knows this.
It really doesnt help that people were huffing mega copium with the "Leaks" that got posted with such high expectations
The game however isnt ending. They already are talking about stuff after The Final shape
@@dylansams4064 Yes, but this is the beginning of the end. You only make the post we saw today when you are ending your game.

So how much is Datto going to bend the knees to Bungie this time?
What's up with all of the "Guys cmon, it's not as bad as you think!" damage control videos as of lately?
Checkmate is the thing I'm most excited about from this post. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I loved Year 1's bigger focus on gunplay and slower time to kill. I never got the arguments about "Why would you want a mode that removes everything special about Destiny?" SWAT was a mode that did something similar in Halo (Removed long time to kill and power weapon control, 2 of the biggest fundamentals of Halo) and that's probably Halo's most popular mode outside of the core game modes.
I agree and think a lot of people may enjoy this mode to avoid the special/ability insta kills
Freelance node was good in iron banner, but then the fireteam matchmaking has been solid too so nice to see it rolling out more widely
Checkmate was announced the TWAB before the Anniversary update was released...
if the activities that have lower engagement aren't fun and just slogs for some people then thats the problem.
Bungie: “we are listening to feed back”
community : we need more PvP maps and strikes
Also Bungie : “they are too expensive, here are battle grounds you already don’t want to play in season and you are lucky to get 1 PvP map a year..
Vouch
Is Bungie paying for your trip to GCX, mortage, or something?
While i agree that the state of pvp needs to be better over more maps, i also believe they need to relaunch old maps and get rid of map weight so that we dont see the same map 5 games in a row or the same 5 maps for a whole season. Variety would help A LOT with making pvp less boring over multiple games
Remember we still have the Final Shape panel
I’m betting 50/50 that everyone’s opinion is gonna flip the minute we see something cool in there
Of course people are like every time they do a showcase
Always does

Armor sets were cool during Forsaken but they started to make them really dull so I don’t care about armor anymore for Ritual playlist
thanks for this video datto, not only did you not even have to make it since youre very busy with GCX, but your conclusion delivered it in a way I needed to hear. good stuff, really.
For anyone looking for a more in depth analysis of the bigger points, here you go:
"Difficulty":
The casuals can stop here because you'll hate that I agree with the big bad Saltagreppo, but holy shit, why are they happy with difficulty based off off NEOMUNA PATROL??!! Moving on the the big three dead elephants in the room
Gambit:
Absolutely the worst change here. Nit much more to say, but holy shit Gambit is nearly as big a tragedy as lightfalls story has been
PvP:
I gave up here a long time ago. Not much else to say because pvp stopped being balanced when Subclass 3.0 came out
Strikes:
I gotta say, I absolutely hate battlegrounds. They 100% do not feel like a classic destiny Strike whatsoever, and it isn't entirely at fault of the activity
For starters, they are literally seasonal content made free by technicality, and without ANY seasonal benefits. There's no narrative cohesion with them once their season is gone, and it's why I don't much like proving grounds either. OG strikes don't and didn't feel like parts of the main story, but instead side stories and threats that were necessarily major, but had to be dealt with. Battlegrounds, in most cases, are three of the same activity, plastered across three locations, with stakes that do not matter story wise whatsoever, and do not give any rewards originally attached to the activities
What's even worse about them, is that they just feel like a spit in the face for people that wanted actual strikes, and people still advocating for Strike-specific loot. These are quite literally the easiest ways to implement Strike specific loot, they could just put seasonal weapons in these and add a few specific weapons to the ones that are missing them rather than bring back another old weapon and slapping the word (Adpet) on it. I didn't much care originally, but it's really sad to see one of the most flavorful and memorable parts of doing strikes be left to rot
And for the worst offense yet, they absolutely do not give the feeling of a strike. And the last two seasons are perfect proof, with battleground: Mars and this season, PsiOps being the two hardest GMs added to date, and not in a healthy way, to the point that the Mars one got a nerf
In fact, I think the vanguard Playlist is genuinely in trouble.
I know game dev hard, at this point I think the whole community knows, but we've heard it for so long that we can't take that excuse anymore, and every time bungie digs their hole deeper, the more I look to the worst thing they've ever said
"Beware of Overdelivery, You're setting Patterns!"
And I know everyone has said it already, but it really can't be said enough. There isn't a world you can convince me that every drop of that is being given to shareholders/paychecks, and even if only 5% of that is being directed at destiny, that should be WAYYY more than enough to support a larger team capable of providing the updates and changes that the game DESPERATELY needs
Anyways, rant over.
If they actually made the set look good then people would use it.
i think my issue with the vendor armor refresh is that it’s quite basic looking with poor stat rolls, thus the low adoption, i think if they bumped up the stats and instead of several new eververse sets each season they could move one (even if just with recolours for other playlists) to the core activities that would be great and player adoption would jump right up
Its almost like they made them deliberately crappy to get you to spend money, and now they aren't even going to bother with that step
@@nateputerbaugh5709 Or, ya know, the easy-to-get armor isn't going to get good stat rolls like harder stuff will.
21:46 Terrible take.
And gambit was never heard of again
The worse thing about the Ritual Armor one is they say they cant make 1 new armor every year but they have enough manpower to make 4 to 6 ornament sets in the game.
"if you want the maps we've been promising for years and delivered exactly 1 of, it's gonna have to take away from other content because reasons. Also don't forget to pre-order Marathon"
