Great freaking idea. You'd probably have to make it thicker in case a coffee bean goes straight through but I suppose with the lacquer it wouldn't matter, unless it pops out while spinning it. I think a mug would look really cool with clear and not like poop xD.
but resin can deal with food?
Mike, I'm not sure about the type he's using but a quick Google search for "food safe resin" returned some results. so It looks like it's possible.
reading a bit further some types that are marked as "Food safe after full cure " are approved by the FDA for "casual food contact" which would be tables and countertops. so a long contact with a hot liquid might not be safe with the type I read about. maybe there's better ones or the mug can be coated somehow?

Just as I thought, maybe coating an ceramic mug? It would be nice, but I think resin is not heat safe.
Maher F You might be able to do just the outside of a mug. Not sure how you would keep it from the lip of the cup.

Epoxy a bow of cereal!!
1. Bowl, Cherrios and spoon
2. Fast Cast White resin in cherrios bowl to look like milk
3. Clear coat toping after fast cast cures
4. Bowl of cereal now lasts forever.
Thank you for not quitting the Internet, and thanks for continuing to put out great videos! This version does look much better than the first go-around. :) I bet the latex mold is much easier to get blanks out of.

Great upgrade to the original, this one looks killer! I liked how you did it in two stages to get around the floating issue, that never even crossed my mind before. Need to keep that trick in mind, it'll come in handy for sure
My immediate thought since he made 2 pours cut it in half take the thinner 2nd pour cut it to size resin together

Hi Peter, I have been watching for awhile and I am a student and in class MDF is the only "wood" we can use. Please could you do a project involving MDF, to show that cool things can be made with cheap materials.

Just curious, if you took a cylinder of pvc with caps on either end and filled it with the resin and coffee mix and placed it on the lathe jaws to cure while it spins, would it make a more uniform pattern or a unique pattern? Doesn't have to be coffee beans I am thinking. I think that the solids would be flung towards the outside as it spun. What do you think? Perhaps the pvc could be tuned away instead of trying to get the mold out. Thoughts?

You do have to be careful to fully fill up the mold otherwise there would be a void in the center...
Oli4vn void doesn't matter, you can just fill it up with more resin! I might try this.

That is actually quite a clever idea. If you used clear resin, it might even give an interesting effect as the inside of the product would be free of beans, while the edges wouldn't. It'll cost tons of electricity though, but hey, for science!

I think that you should sell your projects. I would have bought the other coffee tamper as a gag gift for someone. I think that you do really unique things and people would pay money for them.
When I saw the dust on your hands from the lathe, my first thought was "well, that's one way to grind coffee." Also this *turned* out quite well and I really like the look of the darker beans against the white resin.
You need to talk to Cody's Lab about turning his resin gas tube collection.
ohmynoun my only worry would be the tube breaking during the lathing process and the reduction of the resin shell leading to failure of the resin and one of those tubes exploding on Peter.
It would be something where precautions would need to be taken, but would totally be worth it.

Ready Player One was my FAVOURITE book I've ever read and I recommend Throne of Glass, it's about an assassin and it's my sisters favourite series and author!

Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time. i read it when i was a kid, and didn't understand it truly, but loved it.

By YOU experimenting and showing your results, I know what to try (like the charcoal pigment) and what NEVER to try (like ranch dressing - but no judgement from the grape cordial!).
