One thing my dad instilled into me and I have into my kids us the fact that you can not eat the horns. When your main goal is to put meat into the freezer to help offset cost of store bought foods then you definately do not want to be passing up too many easier opportunities if any at all. Congrats on your successful hunt and that buck certainly ate as good as any one you could have gotten for sure I am betting...
love your channel ❤, I’ve been following for a while. What I like the most is the authenticity. I like hearing the stories of the great outdoors, keep it up.
@@Nwhunter yes, that is true. However bigger more mature bucks don't avail themselves as frequently nor do they exist in the numbers as younger bucks. Western Washington isn't the Midwest where Whitetails abound or Eastern Washington where Mule deer are massive. With growing populations across western Washington older larger bucks are mostly nocturnal and few and far between. In the 70's 80's and 90's I would see multiple 3pt and 4pts every year. That's not the case today but I appreciate your comment. Hey, I just realized you are Paul Ambrose from the old fishing site. Good to hear from you. Are you still guiding?
@@danm1319 if the deer is not dead you'll just chase it further and further away. If you don't spook it, it will either die when it bleeds out or find a spot to slowly pass away. Good question. Thanks for watching.

My dad always told me that it doesn’t matter how big a buck is cause you can’t eat the antlers. Good job on filling the tag.
@@matth7650 my dad said the same thing. Thanks for watching.
But.. a bigger , mature buck gives you far more meat to fill the freezer

Those ladder stands are sketchy ! Please think about wearing a safety harness while in your stand Gene. Congrats on your buck harvest,
@@Ben-Ona-Peel78 They are sketchy. I'm real careful. I used to wear a harness but it always got in the way. Thanks.

Awesome. We’re those Gravensteins you were baiting with?
@@Umakemelaff not exactly sure. They're from one of our trees.
Have seen a ton of little bucks out here this year normally I got 6-8 decent bucks running around everything is spikes this year
@@Austeeeno Big bucks have been scarce thus past 2 years. They've gone completely nocturnal.
@@Northwestfishingfanatics yeah even if that I got 4 cameras set up in usually prime spots and nothing decent
Great eats right there.
yes it is
Curious why wait 45 mins to start searching when it’s getting dark? I don’t hunt I fish
