    Loved the conversation around hunting low. We’ve completely changed our mindset on that over the last few seasons and have had tremendous success. Our brains trick us that the higher we go the better but, in reality, a lot of the time that is just exposing us more and creating a giant silhouette in the sky. Low is where the cover is at. Nice episode, guys!

    I made the change to not using trail cameras back in college before cell cams even came out. I’m a more happy hunter by just using the sign to hunt and being surprised. I will probably never go back

    I shoot both trad and compound. I got into trad 9-10 years ago because I wanted the challenge and I wanted to be able to fix my own bow without having to run to a good pro shop which is 1 1/2 hr drive for me. A year after getting into trad I ended up buying a bow press and everything for my own little bow shop bc I liked tinkering so much. Compounds have the ability to shoot a range of dynamic spined arrows and I think it was just easier for bow shops to have a generic arrow build. They already have to fit the bow to the individual so might as well use that generic arrow. People just got used to doing it that way in the interest of time. Guys want to shoot a particular arrow that a bow shop had in stock or a certain weight and it's just easier to make a bow with all its adjustability work with a predetermined arrow. "Super tuning" a bow and arrow set up could potentially take a lot of time and that's something most bow shops don't have, but the compounds are so good now that it almost is irrelevant. But for the most forgiving setup is basically to do the process Kevin described for the compound.

    2:00:38 smoke coming out of the chimney going up or down, is because of the air pressure, high pressure will push the smoke down, low pressure will suck the smoke up….there could be something to how air pressure effects the rise or fall of thermals. Above my level though

    Love hearing about Dubois and Punxsy. Killed my first buck opening day of rifle 2002 (12 years old) my first time hunting, 20 gauge single shot, dropped a 80 inch 8 point at 30 yards in Dubois. I’ve been hunting there since. Seen a lot of monsters up there, but man they are extremely hard to hunt and pattern.

    59:31 i hunt from the ground, no blind, just natural cover. Yes, I absolutely lack being able to see 100 yards in most directions. Instead i can basically only see bow range in all directions. However, every deer ive shot in archery, and the bear ive shot, have all been inside of 30 yards, and most of the buck have been inside of 15 yards. Ive even had to pass deer that walked by inside of 5yards for various reasons. I swear it makes me harder to find than a guy in a stand thats in anything but a perfect tree

    Never thought about tuning the arrow compared to tuning the bow. I feel like it's just easier to tune the bow to the arrow specs that you want. Damn rabbit holes!

    A lot of factors in having a bow @0 as said. Trad and wheels have similar reactions to arrows but its key to actual tune that wheel bow for the correct arrow all in all both you want straight flight

    2:50:50 yall are kind of nuts. Its not the crossbow making your kids “uninterested” in hunting because of all the success theyre apparently having. Crossbow do not guarantee success. They make absolutely nothing easier about archery hunting other than the shot. You know whats causing your kids to be so successful theyre becoming disinterested. The ground you create for them to hunt on, and the wealth of knowledge youre putting towards their hunt. Take them to public ground and let them do it like you did when you were kids. And watch their success evaporate without you holding their hands on the curated ground youve created for them and the whitetail

    1:26:20 look PA is hard, but there are a lot of mature buck in PA. And some really big ones! Ive got a buck on camera this year that is easily 140, more than likely 150+ and hes only 1 of the 8 3 years old+ buck i have on camera this year. On less than 100acres of public state forest land in north central Pa. The state forest im hunting is almost 200k acres, and i BARELY cover it!!

    2:28:15 screw the ANF, its huge but everyone knows about it so it gets hunted harder than of other multi hundred thousand acre state forests in PA. And those other State Forests produce a higher quality deer now because they dont get hunted as hard

    On this episode of the HUNTR podcast we are going to say the word LIKE 10,000 times so if your brain is the size of a marble this episode is for you. Come on guys try to find other words to use besides LIKE. Why is it in the description of the video you can manage to put together 200 words without saying it once but when trying to compose a sentence its every other word.

    Comparing compound to trad is not even close to comparing xbow to compound! Xbow is more compared to a muzzleloader imo!

    • @chuck8586
      @chuck8586 4 месяца назад +4

      Crossbow and compounds have the same effective ranges. 100 yards. The scope certainly helps the crossbow, but a skilled archer (bowmar) is horrendously lethal at 100+yards with a compound. And frankly, with modern compounds pushing let off to 85-90% the having to draw and hold argument is getting really really over played. Crossbows are here to stay, just as stickbows are still here after all these years. Crossbows are more lethal when used appropriately as archery equipment yes, but its still archery, still have to do everything an archer does. And Thats good. Theyre also more ethical and thats great.
