How To Unfreeze And Remove A Stuck, Stripped Caliper Bleeder Screw

What's going on everybody rob here with a little video and removing this Brake bleeder screw. This van calipers are very old and the brake bleeder screw is rusted to the caliper. The brake bleeder screw is rounded off. I was worried I may break off the tip of the brake bleeder screw on this 2014 Chevy Express van. I used a propane torch and some cold air from a dust removal can. I also applied knocker loose And drove around for a couple days with the knocker loose applied to the vehicle. I attempted to put on a smaller box wrench and the box wrench just kept stripping the bleeder screw. I do have a stripped Bolt extractor set. In very handy this time. I believe every step I've taken to extract this broken bleeder screw this rusted bleeder screw was a little step in the right direction. Propane torch, the instant cold from the dust can, the knocker loose spray and little broken bolt extractor. I also used an impact drill in reverse. Not a big impact wrench or impact lug remover. I used a craftsman impact drill like one to put in large bolts in decking. I put it in reverse on the lightest setting there was And I put it in reverse and low and behold this rusted frozen brake bleed came out. Hopefully this video gives you some hope and some pointers on removing a rusted frozen brake bleeder screw. Ohh one other pointer was the Drill bit I put a drill bit inside of the Brake bleeder screw in order for it not to collapse on itself and twist off and break

Nice thinking with the drill blank. I usually don't find these rounding off, but rather snapping off flush with the caliper with only the slightest application of torque with a small wrench. Getting those out then are near impossible.

Great job, take your time loosing and tighten in small increments, drill bit was a great idea so you won’t crush it and brake it off in the caliper

Put anti-seize on bleeder before putting it in.

Get yourself a air chisel with a flat bit and vibrated loose while turning it with the proper bleeder wrench.

the whole caliper looks in a bad shape. just buy a set with new seals and everything and fix it on a bench for good.
