Back to Van Life then.. Ireland does it again! (Donegal - Exploring Ireland)
After an intense few weeks looking for remote cottages to buy in Ireland, and the usual stress that comes with buying and selling a house, some calm and tranquility was needed.
We headed to Donegal, after all the recommendations would this county in the North of Ireland live up to the hype? We rejoin the wild Atlantic way, after probably one of the best wild camping spots we've ever spent the night at in our van.
Whether you've been watching recently for the abandoned cottage/remote lifestyle suff, or the van life travel stuff, we just want to say a huge thank you for all the support, and if you continue to join us for the ride then we will be sharing plenty more of both. We are on quite the adventure building our selves a sustainable life off the grid..

Hopefully you are enjoying this European travel series as much as we are and we are managing to show you just some of the stunning landscapes that France has to offer in this French travel vlog.
As usual, we have tried to include a bit of everything, some cinematic scenery mixed with our usual female van life foolery, we always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!
Follow us on our journey as we attempt to create a proper youtube travel series as we, two female travelers and vanlifers, attempt to travel across Europe in our rolling tiny home.

Just a wee revision on history. The Great Hunger wasn't a famine. It was the failure of one crop, the one the poorest depended on. The rest of Ireland was still fertile, it was only potato that failed. In fact, food was still being sent too England under armed guard. The Great Hunger was political, not a famine across the land. Political decisions to let the poorest starve in an island flourishing with food. My family were from Donegal and emigrated to Scotland. The sea fare to the Americas was really high and so the poorest made it to Britain, usually landing in Glasgow or Liverpool. Morgan 💜
Also they had a potato famine in England at the same time.
@jamesbeech8643 but the English didn't starve because the English controlled the food
Correct and despite so many starving to death Ireland was still a net exporter of food during this period. There was no famine. Some argue it was a form of ethnic cleansing.
Irish oats exported to feed English horses !!
As a 25 year Pro Photographer your imagery is 10/10 you are IMO pretty close the best Vlogers I have ever seen. Thank you Both of you
Thank you
A good friend and I spent a week in South Ireland this last September, mostly just driving. We put about 1800 kilometers on the rental car and had a fantastic time! The scenery, the lore, the pubs and the gracious people all totaled up to one of the most fantastic experiences of my life! I am a little obsessed at this point, and so want to return! I have traveled quite a bit, and no other country nor its people have affected me in quite the same way. Its so true that you never fully leave Ireland behind, it embeds in your soul and wont let go. Thanks for this video, it brough back a piece of the magic of my time spent there!
Isn’t it just a wonderful place, we’ve yet to meet anyone that hasn’t enjoyed Ireland. It definitely has a magic, as you seem agree 😃😃
Great video girls , glad your loving this country ...I've been to Glencar waterfall a couple of times. I also like to travel off season as it's not as busy.
Have to correct you, if you’re referring to it as South Ireland because there is a Northern Ireland, that’s considered offensive here, it’s the Republic of Ireland. 💚
@@Clisare I'm Irish, from Southern Ireland, and I never feel offended by whatever people call it - nor do any of my family or friends find it offensive. Context is everything, and when the context is people who don't live here just calling it whatever seems right to them then that's just fine with me because we can't expect them to know all the "whys and wherefores" of what a place should be called. Life is so much nicer when you're relaxed about these little things. 👍☘💚
Thank you! You are an example of the gracious nature of the people in your beautiful country. :) Of course I meant no offense (and you understood that from the context of my post) I was speaking in geographic terms. I absolutely plan to visit the northern regions upon my next visit! @@helenaville5939
Another fab episode girls ❤
Just one point have a listen to Sinead O'Connors song called Famine - one of the lines in there
"The truth about the famine was that there never really was one"
The potato harvest failed but there was enough food - it was being shipped out to England . So there wasn't a famine.During the years of the so called Famine - Anglo Irish landlords continued to export grain and livestock to England. There was enough food ! Not one rich person, not one priest died during the so called Famine but hundreds of thousands of poor people did die. So in other words the English attitude was one of they are Irish and only poor, sure what's the problem? The famine was a deliberate genocide.
It's another horrendous episode in the history of the British empire - of British colonialism. I'm English originally and to be honest when I moved here over 30 years ago - I was surprised that more Irish people don't detest the British. Yes we can't be accountable for our ancestors (if they were British) but we can hold in our attitude an awareness of what actually happened and how for over 800 years England milked Ireland - a country which wasnt theirs to milk. I studied History at Uni and was never told about what actually happened in the so called Famine - not one book spoke of the true facts - thankfully now there are (usually Irish) historians who tell the truth of what happened in Ireland during the 'famine' years.
Anyway history lesson over 😅
Big love to you both!
Yeah there are a lot more books and articles on it now which is great to learn about for sure, and we love a big history lesson 🙂
The way you cut the cakes was very Welsh, Emily. We have big halves and small halves there, which confuses the Germans when I offer them a big half. Half is… half here.
I sing the WB Yeats poem in my celtic concert programme and now I know what the „falls above Glencarr“ look like!
😂🍰
Who doesnt love a waterfall! :)
This is the BEST video I've seen of Ireland!!!
Omg so close .... I nearly spotted Lou hatless when she changed hats! 😲 I played it back a couple of times but she's just too clever with her editing!
You’re such a great couple ! I’m beyond flattered that you’ve decided to make your home here in Ireland !
We have fallen in love with Ireland 🙂🙂
As am I.... It's such an honour to watch your vlogs. And see my country through your eyes.
I' used to hate Sundays but knowing I've got your weekly video to look forward to has changed that. I even made a crappy excuse why I couldn't go out on Wednesday so I could watch your live stream. I don't think you're aware what you're doing is so inspirational and a reality check about what's really important in life. Fingers crossed survey reports are favourable and you'll soon be in your dream home. Both AJ and Summer are so chilled. I'm sure AJ knows he's a lucky dog
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say and we are glad that you enjoy the vids 🙂🙂
Please do a -30 full blown snow and ice van life, I want to see you snowed in with blizzards to see how you girls and the Van cope.
Xxx ❤
We do love the snow
The winter cake tour of Donegal 🎉
As a Donegal resident myself, that's a grand Vlog, hope you enjoyed Donegal
We did, thank you 🙂
wow what a beautiful waterfall!!!!!!!!!!
Hi ladies, AJ and Summer. Donegal is amazing, there could be something interesting to attend next year if you are not in another country. On the 17th of August 2024, there’s a Dragon Boat Regatta, with lots of Dragon Boat racing. My dragon Boat team, Manchester Dragoneers (For survivors and supporters of breast cancer) will be racing that day alongside many other fantastic Dragon Boat clubs. Highly recommend any dragon Boat event. They are always fun to see the races. ❤ P.S. if you are ever in Manchester and fancy joining us on the boat drop us a message we paddle every Saturday morning even through winter 🥰
Beautiful scenery no matter what the weather throws at you ❤
You never went to Slieve League ( amazing hike to see biggest sea cliffs in Europe)or the cool little abandoned village called Port!!! You’d have really loved these
Hmm, Slieve Liag is spectacular BUT the highest seacliff in Europe is in Norway, the second highest is in the Faroes, the third highest is indeed in Ireland but it isn't Slieve Liag, it's Croaghaun on Achill Island in Country Mayo. 21:36
The Cat is starting it's winter coat. Hair drier for cold air to get red of summer fur
2 minutes in and I can honestly tell straight away this is up to your usual high standard of cinematography... or whatever its called lol.
I LOVE your videos :)))))
🙂🙂🙂
Just love Summer she is so adorable
AJ also cute
Allie Scotland UK 😊
I have a fb friend that lives in Donegal. He sends me pictures of his dog running on the beach and speaks of golf when he can dodge rain. Pretty cool!
Really enjoying seeing all the spots that I know. Much respect for taking on Donegal in November. It's amazing in any weather 👍
It really is beautiful 😃
Lovely vlog. Beautiful scenery even with the rain.
Donegal sligo and mayo are lovely
You two are Bord Fáilte's ( Irish Tourist Board) total dream. You remind me every week how beautiful Ireland can be. Even the non - Mayo parts. ❤💚❤️💚
It really is 🙂
LOL, greetings from Sligo
Ireland is stunning ☘️
I am just completing my build and will be hopefully starting my Complete tour of Ireland in early 2024
An okd uni friend’s family used to own a men’s wear shop in Donegal - I remember visiting the area. It is truly stunning - not that remember much after the night out (the people were so friendly and happy to see you and generous with the whisky - hence my lack of memory).
You can go online and look up your individual stitches. It can make it less overwhelming.
Looking forward to the weekly crocheting updates
😂🙈
Loving this Irish thing, can't wait for you both to move. 💚
Donegal kerry and wicklow are the three prettiest counties in ireland. Donegal actually blew me away with its vast scenery. Have fun xx
Yes they’re all very special, in fact we’ve loved all the counties so far! 😃
Oh! You left out Cork - West of Clonakilty to the Caha Mountains - one of the most underrepresented parts of Ireland!
@@nick.caffrey Very pretty indeed.
Hugh you left out Co. Cork - West cork is beautiful.
You'll gradually learn the code for waving at other road users 😂
Amazon Prime has a documentary called The Irish Pub, which is fantastic. I learned more about Ireland and its people in that than I have anywhere else. So the last time I was in Ireland and went to Donegal town, I made it a point to visit the pub there that starts the documentary and just had a fantastic time being there. In any case, thanks for the memories!
Going to Ireland in Sept..thanks for the tip-- will watch!
@@barbara6110 You are very welcome!
The grey squirrels never came to most of the west of Ireland. They never managed to cross the river Shannon. But in recent years, the pine marten has proliferated again and areas where the grey squirrels had replaced the native red squirrels, the red squirrels have returned.
Ur videos always make me happy
Wonderful, thanks Louise and Emily, AJ and summer. Breath taking views. Fingers crossed for your purchase. ❤ Jo in France 🇫🇷
love me a bit of crochet, ive recently started crochet after having a go years ago. It's not too bad just watched loads of youtube tutorials to help me understand terms.
I can see that many Irish people came to America as Americans are notorious for not allowing dogs in many places. I also recognize many of the baked goods as things Americans love to eat. Interesting. Best of luck with the purchase! 😊 x
Nothing soothes the heart like a bit (or a bunch) of green! Looks like a good time to visit? Who has the right away on a one lane road?
50/50
"Drive in Light, Drive in Grace & I will find a parking space" 😂obviously works for Emily too.
I have parked up at that waterfall. Just beautiful. Great for a dip.
Couldn’t believe my eyes on the thumbnail, I visited this exact waterfall when I visited Ireland in 1996 when I was 7 years old with my family, I literally was looking at the family photos from the trip half an hour ago! Lovely to see it again, I must visit one day with my daughter. Have a lovely time exploring!
That is crazy, it’s a lovely area
Wales is also gorgeous
It was great seeing you both stop
In Glenties my hometown. So glad ye like Ireland and welcome
Good luck with Engineer’s report 🤞 The countryside is so beautiful no wonder you have falling in love with Ireland!!💜🐶😺🤗🇦🇺🦘
If you are having these lovely big beaches for yourselves, why not let your doggie loose so that he can run and have fun?
He’s got a metal plate in his leg from an operation, arthritis in all 4 and at 11 years old we are cautious of more damage. Plus there’s livestock around and it strictly says dogs on a lead.
Take a nap, have a glass of wine, eat some nibbles, watch a Christmas movie.
Marmite is great in stew. So is soy sauce, worcestershire sauce, oxo's and a splash or two of sherry! (Everything is better with a splash or two of sherry!)
I've always claimed that the winter mud on my car acts as a protector from bird poo and other insults to my paint job!
I can't imagine that you need to wash the van, just let the rain clean it!
Have a good week ladies! I hope you hear all your surveys are good news. I will look forward to seeing you in the future!
I think it protects the car/van as well
Tony's cooking tip.
• take turnip and parsnip,
• scrape clean & dice,
• boil until soft,
• allow to cool,
• feed it to the dogs.
Looks like we need an Emily cooking show soon. That stew looks amazing.
You will have to put recipes in the comments chef. 😂😂😂
We went to Ireland for 5 weeks in the Spring this year and you are visiting many of the places we saw too. The north scenery is stunning and the size and beauty of the beaches was something to behold. Hope all goes well with the house and you never bore us - it is a little Sunday night treat to see what you have been up to. Good Luck,
Simply amazing
Beautiful part of the world. I’ve spent time there with my dog and we even walked up Sliabh Liag. A bit jealous of you both being in Donegal now…
Just spent the night at that lovely waterfall last week, we had a cheeky skinny dip in the wee hours 😊
Thank you ladies and wee dog and cat 😁 for great tour! Donegal is spectacularly good in all seasons. Safe journeying around 🙋🏻♀️
I love your term of phrase in regards to the red squirrels…. 10 a penny. Here in the US, we would say a dime a dozen.
Your Footage of the Red squirrels is absolutely Breathtaking could watch it for hours 😜😍.
Yes the views are just beyond Beautiful still the last of the Autumn colour’s in the Trees ,the stunning
Waterfalls .
I am for sure your going to have a fantastic new adventure with your New home with this gorgeous landscape
Around you.
Yum yum those tasty deserts your making me hungry Emily 😅😋

The autumn colours are something else for sure
Superb editing of these vids, and I mean superb! This is better than watching TV! Cracking latest episode!
❤ always a pleasure to enjoy your videos ladies. You two are a joy and I wish you always the safest and best travels.
Thank you 😃
Love how you stay so positive and cheerful no matter what the weather!
You've done it again, another cracking vlog, this time around my favourite county Donegal. It's such a beautiful place.
Thanks for another fantastic video.
you certainly chose a lovely place to live, the waterfall parking was great!!!
Hey, Emily! Have you thought of get a stainless steel or aluminium 3 stack steamer for cooking, it's so useful, you just use one ring to cook, we steam all our veg, cook stuff in bottom like spuds and then like longer cooking veg in next tier then quickest in top their, so much better than standard. Just a tip. Enjoy your travels and new abode both. X
So, I now have another reason why I love this channel. Nobody else ever tells me to eat cheesecake and Toblerone when I'm on a health kick. 😋
Still keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 for you guys and your surveys / purchase of the snack shack, as I've already decided I'm going to refer to it 🤣
😂😂🧀🍰🍰🍰
Wow, beautiful scenery and bakery treats lol,🌿🍃🌹🍰
I was raised between Ireland and England, and miss Ireland when I see videos like this. I've never been to the West Coast as I was brought up in Co Cork, but the town you were in very much reminds me of my local (Charleville) before it became more built up and modernised. I hope you will be very happy in Ireland. I settled for Wales, in between the two.
It’s a truly amazing place
Great video, beautiful scenery and plenty of snacks.😀
Another great video girlz.
Cheers for giving me something positive to watch😊
Thank you for a great video my grandfather came from Donegal landed in Glasgow met my grandmother ans move Helensburgh Scotland enjoy your week x

How awesome, I teach and enjoy crocheting. If you need any help let me know. I am excited to see it when it is finished.

Beautiful drone footage of the best part of Ireland, though I might be biased
Absolutely beautiful!
You do release that you have now just scratched that pain like mad and that will for ever be in the pain.

Gorgeous backdrop with waterfall
Should come down to Waterford lakes in the mountains and waterfalls too. Lots of beaches⛱️ especially around Dungarvan.
Beautiful video.
Girls you need to try Portumna. The castle grounds are free to walk around. Also, Dromineer for sunsets
I am so grateful for the content you two produce (or should I say the four of you / fur babies count!) I always find myself uplifted and just a little happier after sharing in your videos and banter. You are a joy! Best of luck in your new venture(S) - I look forward to future videos. Blessings as always for Colorado USA!
Thank you and glad the vlogs do that 🙂
Love watching your Irish adventure X … An Ireland tour for 2024 is in early planning stages … We’ve been twice before but ever only stayed in cottages on the west coast for short breaks, this time and because of your videos our hearts and minds are drawn to a Van trip. My dad “god rest his soul” actually came from the North, and have many in our tree that emigrated to America 😊☘️❤️
Have an amazing time it’s bloody lovely
Totally brilliant vid loving the co pilot he is megga ❤
I’m Irish and live here but I’m actually envious of all the free time you guys have to experience our beautiful country. Btw great hats Louise.. never see you without one 😅😅
