This is a disgrace in the country Jamaica I hope it never happened again
Mr Holness this is 💯 absolute Disgrace. This Gentleman should never have lost his life Peroid. WHY IS NOT AN AMBULANCE STATIONARY AT BOTH AIRPORTS IN JAMAICA????? THOROUGHLY DISGRACEFUL
Response time in Jamaica is absolute garbage. From calling the police to an ambulance. These are the things that should have a plan in place . RIP
How does a major International airport not have onsite medical facility and staff?
Still trying to figure it out...praying this man did not die in vain n no one else will suffer the way he did. Deepest condolences to the family🙏🙏🙏🙆
For all I know some one should be place on the hot seat for this man life they are paid to do a job and there business is in front and center of their day the only thing that they care about is there pay for all I know probably all of those nurses and the health care units were working from home they must be held fully responsible and if found negligence should be sent t prison.
My daughter 13 years old, fainted at Norman Manley airport on our return from Jamaica to the US. No one from the airport came to our help. Thanks to the wonderful persons in line who came to our help. It was super hot the AC was off. Jamaica do better than that.
Thank God she’s ok
My God this seems like it's been a constant occurrence
I hope the death of my loving cousin will stop this from happening 😢
Also to my understanding his brother children's grandmother had the same demise
Sometime ago she collapse and died at the same airport
Very sad indeed
FLY HIGH FAMILY
YOUR MEMORIES LIVE ON FOREVER
@@SkyeStewart-w4p WOW!!!!! This is absolutely terrible 😣 had this been a white person things would have been handled differently.
@@annmariesmith3697
Yes my wife agrees he would have care if he was white , and my wife, well she is white! She is Polish and she can never understand why our blacks can't help eachother
For a country that relies heavily on tourism this is a crying shame,if this man was a tourist from Europe or America, meaning white they would have treated him better, and were is tufton,Daryl you too buff
True if he was white he would have gotten better service. Now I believe some of my country persons like Mr Vaz and the entire government body are very prejudice and discrimination against their own fellow black JAMAICANS. We are treated like animals.
The airport needs to be held accountable n also the airline so sad on the floor for almost half an hour needs a very good lawyer my my this lady is speaking the truth
It saddens me to say that race and status likely factored into the neglect of Mr. Smith and the lack of urgency to attend to him.
That's a disgrace. Jamaica systems is so bad its needed a shaking up .because people travel from all over the world and something medical happened a ambulance should be right on spot.
The fear of not getting a fast enough response in an emergency is one of the challenges faced by returning residents when choosing to live or visit Jamaica. Most developing countries have a 3 to 5 minutes response time. In most cases when you call 911 an ambulance, fire truck and police all come. They have to do better.
Can't compare Jamaica to a 1st world country, when it comes to emergency response time. The topography alone is a challenge in getting to the need.
We MUST do better. But, we need to stop these unrealistic comparisons.
It is not unrealistic. The infrastructure must be in place. Ambulances and fire department must be even in the villages just in case people may need them. Taxi man does more than these humans because the government don't care
@@A.Walker. Unrealistic comparison. Smh. Most Caribbean countries have this system in place. Smh. What a society like Jamaica. 😮
That’s why I don’t want to come back to Jamaica to live. Healthcare is not up to par. Life is more important to me than living in a beautiful place. Jamaica come een like “Pretty Dunce” now
@@A.Walker.they’re doable. Jamaicans are limiting themselves. Too much people teifing the tax payers money to build themselves and family and not attending to the country’s needs.
Hopefully we will see protocols implemented by the airport authorities to eliminate these gross negligences in the future . Sad story .
That's disgusting! A country that relies solely on tourism should have a staffed medical facility at the airport. Even Panama has better health than Jamaica. Shame!! What would happen if there's a plane crash? No preparation whatsoever!
You would think! I agree 100%. I usually try and defend Jamaica when there are certain issues people complain about but I can't defend this. This is one of the major tourist airports in the region and you tell me that there isn't a proper medical facility? Outrageous. No excuse can be given.
This is unacceptable
This is a disgrace and this is unacceptable a big airport like that put money first before helping this man are your kidding me were was the medical personnel that they have thair don't tell me is only a nurse that takes over 20 minutes to see this man and then telling them they have to pay for ambulance before they can take him to the hospital unacceptable Jamaican people that are traveling deserve better.what kind of heartless people they have in that airport let this poor man suffer and died on the floor when they could help him breaks my heart. I can't imagine the pain his family feeling right now they should not let them get away with it they are disgusting shame on them all .why a big airport like that don't have a ambulance service so if anyone gets sick they can take them to the hospital. What kind of place is Jamaican only for the white and the rich very upset to see this.
This is Real Murder
As a Jamaican, I am following this story, and I support the family lawsuit to all necessary parties...change needed!
Sue dem backdrop yes. Maybe they’ll learn
Honestly, with how the system is, unless you are of status, nothing will become of it.
This is truly sad. This was one of the reasons for the U.S. government issuing a warning. It’s critical that when we travel back to Jamaica or elsewhere we purchase medical coverage so if necessary can be taken back to the U.S. for treatment. My condolences to his family.
This one.
Condolences to the gentleman's family indeed😔
Waiting for stock photos now of the 7 ambulances dem have available..you know like the respirators, toilet paper, etc. Smh
What nonsense! It's like some people are still in the dark ages. How can something like this happen in a big airport like that and they had that man lying on the floor for so many minutes. You know what? I won't even say anything else. 😔
Not having a medical team on standby for an airport that processes (on average) 4.4 million passengers per year is unacceptable. Not having the ability to immediately pay for an ambulance also shouldn’t be a death sentence.
It’s time to catch up to 2024, Jamaica.
The responders to this incident was more focused on money protocols vs. a man's life
Sad state of affairs in my home country. Money over life seems to be the ever occurring theme in all aspects of existence there.
This is a shame
Now this one of the reason Jamaica is a level 3 on the state dept list of do not travel and they never lied . Jamaica medical system is a disgrace. And to have millions moving through that airport they should have had emergency facility onsite or nearby.
Smh welcome to Jamaica
An ambulance MUST be there
Lawsuit! Lawsuit! Lawsuit!
Heart broken. Heart broken. My heart goes out to Mr. Smith, and to his family & friends. You deserved so much better than to pass in this manner. So very sorry.
Can’t have a country in modern times without proper emergency measures. Wake up Jamaica! you can’t have tourist coming to your country without EMS assistance in place. Every Police or security officer or immigration officer should be trained in emergency medicine or First Aid.. There should be a medical emergency team stationed at the airports, with radio frequency to respond to emergencies.. I hope you learn from this experience. It doesn’t look good..
Corruption
Shame and Jamaica shame there is no other country around the world. This would happen every airport around the world have an ambulance and paramedic and standby at all time except Jamaica they need to do better they need to do better. I know privacy shame on them shame on them.
Tufton, Vaz Andrew and Barlett all quiet. Wicked set a sh.....t
Old krazmite
Everything is politics for u people. Just so narrow minded
😮😔 😟 🙁 😥 😞 😢 😭 man, no good at all, cho‼️‼️‼️
Yes his life could have been saved. You have to do CPR IMMEDIATELY when people are having a medical problem.
Mr. Bass you need to order AED AND place all over your airport because when you have medical problems you can use it to perform CPR because it is self explanatory and it shows you where to place the pads and when to start the manual CPR.
The government must be responsible 😢 Big Time!
Airport staff need to have training in first aid and how to manage such emergencies. It's such a shame. He should not be on the floor for all that time. Hope disciplinary actions and training will be given to these airport staff. They should have emergency equipment on hand and trained staff to deal with emergencies
Make video on camera available so the public can watch and see what happened tomorrow many different stories
A lady from tiktok that witnessed the ordeal said they wanted 400 usd for ambulance for (approval). She even tried to helping the decease but no pulse. Very sad
Total disgrace and carelessness, this is one of the main reasons I could never live in Jamaica. Health care is of utmost importance and I feel in Jamaica the Healthcare system is too archaic.
All airport staff should be trained to perform CPR and basic life support and AEDs (Defibrillators) should be readily in all the sections within the airport! It is not good enough to say "my condolences".....this is gross negligence on the party of the airport authority, airline and Jamaican government....It should never happened
pure bull them talking the ambulance from hospiten could not come till they guarantee they will play the 400 us fee
The airport should pay for the ambulance
Lets hope the airport staff didnt empty this mans pockets because not even the dead are safe in Jamaica
@@dee2973 and they did rob the man check out popeyez news links interview and listen what the man's nephew said the man dem from the parlor rob him
Jamaica Love.
It would be good to hear what the autopsy says. What was medically wrong with the passenger?
It does not matter what the medical autopsy says. Even if he had prior health issues everyone should receive proper emergency help in a proper time so they can live and not die
Jamaican airports are not properly equipped for medical emergencies and it's a disgrace
Despicable
Wonder if he did took the COVD vaccine. A lot of people dropping from blood cloth in the lungs.
This is the only intelligent and awakened comment I've seen here so far. You are definitely on the right track so keep vigilant
Taxis are not the answer in emergency situations! Having trained persons, appropriate equipment, rapid responding EMS (ambulances, EMTs and Paramedics) are the answer. Apart of the EMS response, is that they notify the hospital ahead of time of the person (s) and events thst will be arriving so that they can quickly have adequate resources and time to prepare for the persons so that they give the person the best chance of survival and saving the person's' limbs and prevent disabilities. These are matters that we should take seriously.
LAWSUIT!
Such a shame. The airport that caters to tourist doesn’t have or know the protocol to handle emergency situations Also didn’t they learn anything from the incident with the tourist who was having some type of psychotic breakdown just recently.
Why isn't there any emergency room at the airport staffed with a license doctor and nurse and necessary equipment including an ambulance for an immediate emergency at any given moment this after all is an international Airport its such a shame. and earlier this year when the US state department issue a travel warning for Jamaica they stated that adequate health facility is lacking and guess what the minister of health took offence here we are now Jamaican politicians please do better this should not have happened in one the Caribbeans busiest airport and it will happen again and if i should bet there will be no improvement made sad state of our nations .
So the minister of health took offense ? Because it was true. Shame on him. I hope he can explain why he FAILED
Shame, shame, shame. Codolences to the family. Goverment broken down in Jamaica. SMH
Jamaica is not a normal place 😢I love the island but naaah!!!!😢
Walk with travel insurance for emergency illness cant go wrong faster help.
Not even sure that would have helped him. The medical personnel took a long time to see and probably never had time to check if he had travel insurance. He needed help on the spot
Smh what a disgrace not even a ambulance
The airport and airlines need to be held accountable. The love of money and fact that this man was a Jamaican surely factored into the lack of urgencty. Now if people start to heed the travel warnings, Jamaica will only then do better smh.
There should be a ambulance at the fire station there
Its definitely an unfortunate and disgraceful situation that there wasn't a quick response team present on base. However the real important thing to think about is what caused the gentleman to collapse in the first place
A person 71 is not elderly. May his soul rest in peace
An he definitely did not look it!🙏🙏
He is elderly but still deserving of a longer life. People should be allowed to live as long as they can
What a slackness
Omg so sad
Dam lie them fi sue the jamaica n government
Shame
Waiting for the results of the autopsy but praying going forward protocols will be put in place so no one has to suffer the way Mr Leroy Smith died! Me feel fine due family Deepest condolences🙆🙏🙏🙏🙏
Shame on you Jamaica. An international airport with out an Immergency procedure and an ambulance, shame, shame. There are people donating ambulance to this country and it’s held up in your bureaucracy for years. Get with the program Jamaica, it’s time enough.
These incidents happens globally it's just acts of fate now that this happens on our shores I pray that they will now have equipped ambulances with trained personnel on standby and not only at Sangster but at Norman Manley also condolences to his families and may his soul rest in peace
Jamaica is #1 tourist destination in the Caribbean 😮
Sangster airport should've a TRIAGE inside the airport ready up and running with ambulatory transport services
Jamaica might have learned fr the US travel ban advisory still in effect
The yt wmn who stripped herself naked dwn to the ground
How
Oonu suh dunce
Sue Jamaica Airport and Mr Bass. Why you don't have ambulance close to your airports. It is a Airport after All. Sorry but I don't think I will ever come back ever again. I haven't been there since 1988 and believe me it is not really important to me. You Mr. Bass and your team is a National Disgrace. May GOD ALMIGHTY GET Y'ALL for all the Hell y'all doing to my FELLOW JAMAICANS. May the family give you and the entire Government a lawsuit. That is Negligence on your part.
He look sick in his eyes, but perhaps if he was given immediate attention his life would have been saved, Carelessness, condolences to his family and friends, damn shame.
What's happened to him again? And how does he die??
He collapsed suddenly while at the Jetblue kiosk🙏
They only brag about the millions of tourist that came each year, yet no emergency plan in place jah,jah
Them is not talking truth
People the Airport is a Business, no they don't have anybody over there to cater for your health... Just like when you visit KFC you don't see any doctor office on site. MBJ is owned by mostly Mexicans not Jamaicans...
This is a disgrace
This is disgraceful I am 75 and will never come back to Jamaica
Don’t blame Yuh
SMH. Nothing will ever stop me from going home. Because similar things happen in the US and Uk. Yet u guys don't say u would never go back.
@@cleverB634Of course, and I wouldn’t discourage people from returning to Jamaica if that’s what they truly desire. But the comparison isn’t fair. In the U.S, if you’re having a medical emergency, no one is asking you for money for the ambulance ride; you’ll be billed later. It is federal law (EMTALA) to be provided emergency medical care (and to be stabilized) regardless of insurance or your ability to pay.
The U.S travel advisory is correct in this regard, you need to get international health insurance.
You politicians are a waste of time, can’t you get it together, why does everything take so long. People are donating ambulance and you are preventing their clearance to come into the country. Do you think they are going to use them as taxis??
This confirms the fear that medical facilities are woefully inadequate in Jamaica. Tourists should be made aware of this situation.
Both the fire department and a health and ambulance service should always be on site at all times. It should be do close that if anything happens the people know that they will be all right. These kind of services must be at the actual airports. We should not be waiting on the ambulance at the hospital unless needed. Your government is corrupt. Y'all are misusing the money and putting it in y'all pockets
😂shame shame it all about money no one cares anymore about life
So sad, u tell me the air port them don't have their own ambulance ? They should have at least 3 at each air port ,,to how much money the airport made they should even have their own little emergency haspital, gosh life come in like its not worth it ,can u just imagine wen u gone its for ever ,and some people care 0 ,sad, sad, sad
All dem a do is photo no AED..
Why the private contract with a private hospital.??????
It's all about making money , because this private hospital is linked to certain politicians.......
The family and loved one tears won't go in vain.....
An international airport without any ambulance.
Minister of tourism, you have a problem, IATA you have a problem. CAB you have a problem, Mbj airport you have a problem.
Now you can all point the finger at each other, but do something , dont loose another life, because it will at some point be your sin's and now you have to live with it.
Smh
😭
So all dese years plane a fly go and come nobody never think bout wey fi do if smaddy faint or becomes unresponsive at the airports ? What a lot a dunce we have down there. Jesus!
MURDA,MURDA,MURDA ... OMG 😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
They want to make sure that $400 US Dollars were paid are In Some form of making sure they are Going to get their Money for the Ambulance Service Damn disgusting.!!!.
