Hi everyone! I've now rewritten this comment, as unfortunately it looks like rocket shaving has now been made impossible in both the base game and the spaced out DLC so unfortunately this Tutorial bite is no longer applicable. I will leave it up for interest, but please be aware that at least as far as I am aware this will not work any more.
I was just about to ask why my rocket won't lose the "path is blocked" message. It made me insane deconstructing every ladder, every piece of cable, automation, and so on. So I guess I will remove the rocket shaving process from my to-do list and work with the giant chunks of neutronium at the edges. Thanks a lot for all of your tutorial bites, they are really great to understand the game better. :)
It used to be possible to mark the neutronium to dig, this would just result in wasted dupe time, unless the dupe had the "super productive" overjoyed trait (10% chance to instantly complete a task) and triggers it on the neutronium This would cause the dupe to get so much XP that the skill points show as negative 2.7 billion Funnily enough I found this out by pure chance
Draining the magma with geothermal power, mass farming radbolts with nuclear waste to clear corner neutronium tiles and launching a series of rockets just to get a few extra complete columns is the most endgame over the top grind i can imagine. But man would it be satisfying!
If you want to destroy the initial neutronium tiles so you can place the rocket engine. I'm pretty sure shooting radbolts slowly chip off mass of any type of tile including neutronium tiles. So, you can delete 5 neutronium tiles that are at the very bottom then let the rocket do the rest
It does. Neutronamine has 9999 hp I believe.. each rad bolt does 1 damage.. well 100 strength radbolt does 100 damage. It takes a long time. But is totally possible
I'm playing the base game and knew Neutronium shaving was possible and kept trying to get it to work from the bottom of the map...yeahhhh this is good to know. It'll be tedious but so worth it when done!
@@jAfr0Thunder86 This worked a few years ago on and off until it didn't. Then a few updates ago it worked again. I even made a short about it. But as soon as i posted it it did not work. Now it is back. Thats why i said "again" :)
Is this still working? Guess i might have to tinker in sandbox. I've been copying someone's method of using the sides as a maintenance tunnel for heavy watt wire and power transformers. If i could do this i wouldn't feel obligated to do that. IMO honestly i feel they should give you the option to do this anyways, at least for the neutronium that spawns into the world interior on the map. Off hand make it require the hazard digging skill and even if it took a dupe half a cycle to dig one tile id use it. Digging out the neutronium under geysers could also make for some interesting changes to the designs for tamers.
The latest patch killed the spaced out DLC shaving, but the base game may still work although that was not necessarily possible on all maps before anyway so I am not clear. Either way Klei clearly want to avoid this happening.
Well you can't do it with rocket shaving, so the only non sandbox/debug way of doing it that I am aware of is by hitting it with radbolts. But I have heard that the health of one tile is 10,000, so it would take a very long time to even get through one tile, let alone a large area.
I had a similar comment and with the members of my discord we did quite a bit of testing. The ability to rocket shave seems tied to a map save - so if one of us had a map where this did work, then sharing it worked for others. As to what created a map with this enabled or disabled, we were unable to come up with a clear cause. I seem to be able to make maps where this works quite reliably, while others were not able to. That includes disabling debug and all mods. So unfortunately we don't have an answer as to why this works on some maps and not others...
@@GCFungus maybe it could be auto-swept into a conveyor rail, dumped somewhere, and then somehow forced into becoming a full tile again, to be used as a perfect insulator 🤔
@@AndrewKelley Possibly, but I think Neutronium is as the devs intended to be a (mostly) unbreakable barrier. Being able to do things with t would only encourage people to dig it, which is kind of defeating its purpose.
You could presumably mine the entire map like this if so inclined. Can you walk across to the next asteroid if you dig out all the way by starting with the radbolt method? That would be fun too.
That should be possible, but you would have to keep moving the rocket over 2 every time so would be a bit annoying. I'm pretty sure the dupes can't walk across, even if you did that, as the top of the maps are already connected and they still don't. But then there could be a bug there, who knows?
Haha well as I said the petroleum engine with single fuel and solid oxidizer tank can carry 23 research modules, but liquid hydrogen and oxygen could manage 37 to make it even bigger! To be honest though moving those super cold materials around at the bottom of the base seems more trouble than it's worth but could be done...
@@davynidruoj3687 I also did tried to rocket shave for a first time few days before, and even without seeing this video. Rocket will went through neutronium leaving it in place, and could not land back (with the message that path is blocked). So the answer is not just for You, it's for everyone - no more rocket shaving, and this tutorial already became a history
Could you please add a [deprecated] or simmilar phrase to the title? I just watched this and spent a good hour getting things done, and then read your pinned comment. That was totally on me, but I think new players going through your videos would appreciate the more explicit warning

I tested in base game and it does not work there either at this time. Oh well, great nugget!

Maybe add a depreciated/outdated notice to the title? Help more people at a glance so they won't try this in newer versions
Neutronium Debris is one of the most cursed things I have seen today
so far
@@pedrolmlkzk Well the day ended 5 months ago so it still was the most cursed thing

No longer works
High quality content as always, thanks!
Lol; so it works again. Love it.
again? did you just need to figure out how the mechanics of it had changed?
I've never done it yet

Thats why i said "again" :)
and now it's gone again.
I love these tutorial bites
Thank you! I remembered that they made this harder, but glad to know it's still possible.
Not anymore :(
Thank you. I've always wanted to know how to do this
you can save time by moving the rocket platform before recalling the rocket
I have seen that said before, but when I tried to land a rocket with a moved platform it said landing was blocked so I'm not sure it is possible.
Great idea to enable the unblockable rockets and full miner yield mods to be able to mine the whole map quickly by sending a few rockets to orbit.
I'm not familiar with those, but being able to clear out the Neutronium is always helpful.
Man, makes me sad they took this out. All they had to do was make it not drop debris. Should've left it in as 'creative use of game mechanics'.

Oh no! I have to move away my storage tank now! :D
Oh hey, I literally just discovered this exists a few days ago
Can you do anything with the neutronium debris?
No, as I said in the video the dupes can't interact with it at all. I think you can push it around by building tiles, but that's about it.

I want to do this, to destroy my base 😅
Doesn't work form my planetoid ;( But anyway thanks for the tutorial!
But why though?
Well either for a bit more space, or to straighten out the edges to make it easier to build in.
