    AFGHANISTAN FALLING TO THE TALIBAN: I'll keep it brief... it hurt hearing the Taliban had captured the province of Ghazni (where I was deployed to). 3 men in my team lost their lives from the Taliban, dozens more wounded. Still, I am no politician. I don't practice war strategy. I can only sympathize with the families of the fallen Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Sailors as they struggle to accept that their child might have died in vein. I'm sorry for the many good Afghans that I personally met who believed in us; their fates are unclear.
    IF YOU ARE NEW: 👇🏻
    For the love of paramotoring, please don't be fooled into thinking that a more expensive paramotor is a better paramotor than a more affordable paramotor with a great reputation. REMEMBER: For the most part, all of these paramotor manufactures are using the same simple 2-stroke engine which makes up the bulk of its cost. They're purchasing the same harness (seat) options, then they embroider or screen print their logo onto it. Same with the propeller! WHAT THEN are they creating to justify the EXPENSIVE prices for their product???
    WHAT PARAMOTOR COMPANIES ACTUALLY MAKE!
    This is true for all of the big names in paramotoring:
    - Gravity Paramotors
    - Parajet
    - Scout
    - Fly Products
    - Sky Max
    These companies are designing the HOOP, SPARS, FRAME, and overall "geometry" of the paramotor...
    ASK YOURSELF!!! "What am I paying for?" The most common engine that is found on almost all paramotors is the Vittorazi Moster 185 Plus, which retails for approximately $2300. My favorite harness (seat) is the Powerseat Comfort; It too is available on most paramotors and it retails for $600. The propeller is either am E-Prop ($320) or a Helix Prop ($409)...
    ...I'll do the math for ya!...
    With all of those COMMON components, together they cost approximately $3,220.
    SO!!! Lets take the most popular paramotor in the sport for example. It cost's $8,250.
    Subtract $3,220 from $8,250 and it equals $5,030.
    That company has $5,030 to produce a cage, net, tank, and frame.
    HERE IS THE CRAZY THING! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
    They are not even making those parts! They are being imported from RUSSIA. 😱 Titanium frames all come from the same manufacturer and these BIG companies are buying in bulk. They're also purchasing all of the other components in bulk. All in all, they are making a massive profit with each sale and it's all because consumers ASSUME they're getting a better product; simply not the case.
    ONE EXCEPTION: Scout Paramotor appears to handcraft their carbon fiber hoop and spars in house. Understandably, that is a labor intensive art. Still, not ideal for beginners considering it's impact durability (or lack there of).
    THE GRAVITY DEFIANT:
    It's literally manufactured in the United States...RESPECT!!! Manufacturing in the US is expensive; However, they have total control over quality of their paramotor. On their RUclips channel, you can see the flippin owners getting their hands dirty while running a massive (and presumably extremely expensive) 3-axis CNC machine. They are drawing up the CAD (computer aided design) files and assessing it flight characteristics. AND STILL!!! THEY'RE THE MOST AFFORDABLE PARAMOTOR!
    TOP REASONS FOR GETTING A GRAVITY PARAMOTOR:
    - Overall, it's a fantastic flying machine!
    - It's made in the USA 🇺🇸
    - Veteran Owned
    - Durable! Great for beginners and experts alike
    - Fairly Priced
    - Larger Propeller 💛
    - Customizable
    - Extremely Fast Replacement Part (if needed)
    - Most Comfortable Paramotor while In Flight!
    - Strong Net
    CONS:
    - Gravity Paramotors is a relatively new company. They're not as refined in the operations portion of the business as those that have existed for a decade...yet.
    - Though their packaging has improved dramatically, I still think that there is room for improvement in the overall packaging presentation to improve the buyer's "unboxing experience".
    - (SUBJECTIVE) The Defiant is a few pounds heavier than the Parajet Maverick, though its not very noticeable.
    CONCLUSION:
    The Gravity Defiant, in my opinion, is the most logical purchase you can make because it's fairly priced, American/Veteran made, Durable, and feels amazing!

    I couldn’t agree more with everything you said. Ive personally tested the durability of the Gravity Defiant as this is the machine I’m learning to fly on. I’ve made my rookie mistakes with both botched take offs and hard landings and have only had to replace my propeller (which I deserved) the hoop and all other components have held up flawlessly after the impacts I’ve “tested” it with. The customer service with Glider Sports is amazing, I’ve been able to easily speak with them on the phone , their web platform is easy to use and find specific parts (like a propeller haha) which like you said they had at my doorstep the next day. I will stay in the Gravity family and with Glider Sports forever for the way they and their amazingly designed paramotor have treated me. I highly recommend them, you can’t go wrong!!!!       @@AnthonyVella - dude, firstly I want to say I really feel for what you said in the beginning about what's happened overseas. It's reminiscent of that war from 50 years ago. Nextly, I've gotta say your videos are totally eye-popping, and you really make them feel so full of life. I wanted to ask if you've heard of Ozone's new Sirocco 3 wing, which reviews say is the lightest wing ever, and also perhaps has the largest trim ever, which is supposed to make it good for XC flying. Do you think that wing's going to become a new favorite, or are there any other new ones you're looking forward to, for a more enjoyable XC experience?

    I am not afraid of heights....I am not squemish about anything involving flight. I've flown many many times myself. However, when he is "cloud-walking" and grabs that stick and starts looking around his aircraft at impossible angles, it is almost all I can do to keep from spewing all over my keyboard. I need a freakin' Dramamine when watching this fellow. HA HA. Congratulations, you made a fellow pilot almost ralph on his desk.

    sir , wanted to say thank you , been on the fence bout gettin into the sport , which i dont consider a sport but ,, at 67 i`n not quite the avg. 67 ,,, i was a skydiving coach tandems and aff instructor , been a couple yrs that i`ve jumped and really wanting to be in the blue again . have done a very small amount of wing running and assisted ground skips . have a buddy that is a freight pilot and jumper that wants one too , we thought maybe a company would work the price for 2 rigs . i`m not a thrill seeker or hotdog i just want to be in the air again and this seems better than runnin the gauntlet and skydivin again . vid was very helpful for me so thank you and i`ll let gravity know i came to them cause of your vid ,, blue skies bud and thank you again .

    Good video, Anthony. That's a nice machine. I was a bit sceptical when I first saw one ~ a year ago. The more I read, see and hear about it the more I like it.
    It's as green here in Prescott as it is there in El Paso. The monsoons are hammering us here, and it looks like that's what may have greened up your area as well.
    I'm not going to get into politics. Politicians and political BS aside, those who served in Afghanistan did a lot of good things for the people there, represented the US well and kept us all safe here. I'm glad that most are now home. You should all hold your heads high.

      @@boneseyyl1060 it’s much more nuanced than that. Getting out is the right thing. Giving up drugs is also the right thing, leaving the drugs behind for your kids to come pick up and abuse would not be the right thing. Just for a simple example.

    Third paramotor here. It's heavier for sure, Dual start with dudek harness and reserve it's close to 70lbs. 4th year pilot, so weight is not nearly the concern it was when i was starting. If you still struggle with launches, this one will wear you out pretty quick lol .
    It is super comfortable in air though, that tank body really dampens the vibrations.
    It is durable, if you have the aluminum hoop. I went with carbon fiber and broke the bottom hoop piece with one hard landing. I replace that one peice with Alum and haven't had an issue since.
    The tank body can take a lot of abuse tho.
    what I didn't forsee was what a pain it was to haul around on a hitch carrier. Tooks some trial and error to build out a 'holder' out of 2x4 and plywood o I could secure it. I wish they would make a reverse mold for the tank that can be a universal mount to hitch carrier. Hell I wish all paramotor manufactors would make an mounting plate of some kind that anyone could bolt onto any hitch carrier to haul their motors around.

      Good review. I've had my Defiant for less than a year. I agree with your assessment of weight and tank body strength. To that I would add that I know of no other paramotor with a fuel filler position anywhere nearly as convenient. I like that the newer models are adaptable to other engines.
      On the cons side I would like to see better prop clearance (I've heard there are newer spars but haven't seen the result), better angles and completed product (with prop) in assembly video, a slightly lower positioned start cord, and tank volume markings. Of these, the prop clearance is the one that seems most risky/potentially costly. As a vet myself, I hope to see this product really grow. I'd also like to see a bolt on tandem trike option.

      Why doesn’t someone make a set of “launch wheels” that contain retractable wheels that you can bring up (with telescoping struts) ? This way you can run and tail drag your engine and once launched you can retract and do normal foot landing. Yeah it’s trike like but it would save your back and legs.

    Terrific post. I appreciate your comments about Afghanistan. I'm 78 years old and was in the army for 6 months in 1962. Peacetime, stateside, no sweat. As a libertarian I have become anti-state, anti-war and free market capitalist. As H.L. Mencken said.. every man is ashamed of the government he lives under.
    I am a licensed pilot with about 1200 hours, but I stopped flying about 30 years ago. I love these paramotors, but I'm likely not athletic enough to fly one without killing myself. So I'll be content to watch you all fly them and wish you all the best.

      We have a 73 year old in our group who just started flying. He is foot launching, but trikes are an option if you aren’t confident in your running ability. Couple of guys with bum knees switched to trike recently in the Wichita Paramotor group.

Just about every afternoon between 3 and 4 PM, the thunder clouds would roll in. I haven't had my lawn sprinkler system on since May because of it.

    I'm really happy with mine. I straight up turning butt landed a few days ago. No feet involved. My brain momentarily stopped working and I did a one handed flair. Broke an aluminum bolt, stuck new one in and good to go

      @@AnthonyVella currently flying a miniplane with a minari 180, with gas its around 60 lbs. pretty rough when i blow launches, seeing as im a 5 foot 10 guy that weighs 140 lbs. but i really like the hoop durability the defiant has.

      @@joecombes1964 For sure! If weight is a concern, the new Defiant X can be outfitted with the Atom 80. I personally prefer the Moster 185, but then again, the field that I fly from is at 4,000 MSL and I weigh about 200 lbs. The Defiant Atom 80 clocks in at 48 lbs (when the tank is filled with helium). lol

    Hello from fellow vet and Defiant owner.
    Regarding Afghanistan, been there, done that, and am very frustrated over recent developments. I appreciate your frustration.
    For those of us who jumped on the first generation Defiant I would say I have mixed feelings. Of course I do like: helping comrades succeed, more modest price tag, the knowledge gained from DIY assembly, the amply sized tank with its fuel filler cap positioned better than any other I've seen, larger hoop size. On the cons side I would like to see better prop clearance (I've heard there are newer spars but haven't seen the result), better camera angles in the assembly video along with multiple views of the completed product (with prop), a slightly lower positioned start cord, and tank volume markings, a way to keep the left swing arm from bumping the cylinder head. Of these, the prop clearance is the one that seems most risky/potentially costly. As a vet myself, I hope to see this product really grow. I'd also like to see a bolt on tandem trike option. I like the modifications they've made and hope to see more.

      I totally agree that it’d be great if they could invest in a more visually aided assembly video. As for the tank marking, the new Defiant X does have them. 😁 As a person who has run out of fuel more times than I’d like to admit, I agree that having them would be very helpful. I am not sure what other changes come with the updated model, but I’ll likely find out since I’d buy another Defiant when the time comes. I have also heard rumors that Gravity intends to make it adaptable to a trike. Chad Bastian posted a video on Facebook not too long ago that shows him flying the Defiant on a trike. I think they plan on making their own version eventually, though I’m not sure when that will be.

      Thank you, Geoffrey! I love the way that the Scout Paramotor looks. If not mistaken, the NXT is the version with the metal hoop, right? Or am I thinking of the Scout Enduro? As for the Defiant, the tank is the same as when I got it. I live is the HOT and UV intense desert. I've left it outside much of that time and it hasn't yellowed at all. 🙂

      I was worried more that the plastic would get brittle vs yellowing.

    Sad that it’s gone up in price so much in such short time! No longer the most affordable. Unitank design is great till you get a hole and have to replace the whole tank, which is the frame. Idk… it sounds great, but practicality seems it’s got some shortcomings

      Thank Tom! I wish there were more to tell people, but the truth is that I haven't done any editing to the audio. I am currently using the SENA 10-R with the bluetooth backpack to capture the microphone audio to my GoPro. The worst part about it is that I am limited to using a GoPro 4. I am on the lookout for an option that will allow me to use my other newer GoPros. I have heard that there are some new advancements coming from MicroAvionics, though time will tell if it'll work as well as I hope.

    Thank you for your service. My stepson Joseph Scanlon went over there qnd Iraq. He wanted to be q career marine all is life.Lasr time he came back he was very dissolutioned about the war and the politics of the military. He took his life. His mother aD.O.D. worker, died about a year later and it was heart failure, Joes death literally broke her heart. I have contracted for the military most of my life and I love working with those who serve . I went sky diving around Ft. Cambell. I have wanted to fly since I was a kid. Im ready to get into this asap. Im having trouble finding out what I should get and who to talk to. There are allot of scams and agendas in the sales/trainiing arena of this sport, any advice is appreciated.

    Sewn runners that connect carabiner to the aluminum frame may fail over time. They rub against metal and gradually deteorate. Backup strap from harness to the carabiner is a must.

    1st time viewer. Awesome video. I am a USMC Vet. I want to thank you for your service! I am looking into doing this I have wanted to also for a long time. The cost like everything else is higher than anticipated even getting a discover flight to check things out. Do you or anyone you know where would be a good place to try a flight or get into doing this a little cheaper? I am in Pennsylvania and we are expensive here to just seeing for options.       Thank you, John. And youre welcome! It was an honor to serve. I know that there are many paramotor pilots in PA. Try doing a Google search for tandem flights in your area. Thats the best way to experience this. As far as finding a more affordable way to get into paramotoring, I strongly suggest looking into used equipment. There's a lot of well maintained gear out there. Secondly, reach out to Resurgence PPG. Theyre a non-profit that help disabled Vets get into the sport. Even if youre not disabled, they'll likely be able to point you in the right direction.
      I was recently seriously injured in a paramotor crash (not something beginners need to worry about). I was attempting to reach max speed and there was a knot in one of the lines that i hadnt noticed. There is a video showing what happened. Anyways, thank you for your support! Hope this info helps!

    Have Gravity prices increased since this video? I priced a Defiant on their site with basic options, no ACS, and it comes to $7296. Which about the same price as everything but the Scout. Adding ACS and some options to the Defiant makes it the same price as the Scout.

    I'm curious, can one sit with a neutral lumbar spine in a paramotor? I have couple of bad discs there and have to keep it neutral, but it looks like the lumbar spine is rounded on everyone flying.

I am actually totally blind and I’ve always had this dream of being able to independently fly and to that end I’m working on making that dream a reality. That being said, are there any instruments, or anything that I would have to be concerned with concerning the gravity, defiant? Any way of making those instruments such as fuel gauge talk? That would be really helpful. Also, what do you think of companies like fresh breeze out of Germany? Have you used any of their products? And, what do you prefer more foot launch, or Cycle?

    Fly Products is also fully CAD designed, and manufactured in-house, down the road from Vittorazi; the harness is a custom design as well :)
    The Defiant sure looks spectacular though!

      I really like what Fly Products has to offer as well! I love their trikes. In fact, we've ordered one: The Xenit with the Cosmos 300! I am beyond excited to get it and start taking people up for flights. Aside from that, I like the Eclipse. I got to see one when I went to get my tandem exemption training in Lake Wales, FL.

    Update.. they're now $7,000 before shipping.. so you might as well buy whatever you want.. it doesn't matter.. the future is electric.. 240mm engine @35KW = $650-800, A lightly used tesla power module (this is over kill for almost 2 hour flights) = $800, do you see where I'm going with this? So for about 3k you get a 2h flight electric system that require ZERO maintenance, quick charging times, lighter, unparalleled rpm climb, and about 140 pounds of thrust ( using a tesla power module lets you go bigger if you want more, or use standard lipo systems to reduce weight further)

    I SO want to give paramotoring a shot. I had a bad concussion 5 years ago and I am not sure how my head would handle the forces and elevations. I would love to go on a tandem flight to see if I could handle it before purchasing a paramotor. I just have not been able to find a place or someone that does that. I live in the Salt Lake city, UT area.

      Well, Levi... if you ever make your way out to El Paso, I would be honored to take you up on our new tandem trike. I suffered an STBI (severe traumatic brain injury) while I was in Afghanistan many years ago. It really effected my memory (more than anything else), BUT I am so grateful to have paramotoring in my life. The beautiful thing about paramotoring is that you do not need to fly high, or at least not at elevations where pressure changes would negatively impact you. Also, you can absolutely fly in a gentle fashion for the duration of the flight, no G inducing maneuvers necessary.

    Here in Sweden I fly a portuguese Power2Fly Titan RS + Moster 130 cm prop, lighter than the Defiant, versatile and as cheap as the Gravity. What concerns me at the Gravity is the longevity of the vibration-exposed plastic/metal junctions..

      Hi! Perhaps they cost around the same price as the Gravity Defiant in Sweden; However, here in the US, the P2F Titan RS with the Moster 185 retails for $8,022 ($2,000 more than the Defiant). I've flown, and crashed, the Defiant for over a year and it has held up really well. Of course, I plan to fly it many more years, but only time will tell how well it will hold up with the vibrations and exposure. 🙂

      I was sure I was going to go Gravity but then saw that the school where I will get my training has Power2Fly as well for a little bit less than Gravity. I think the school selling them will be handy for service as well.
      So I could well be on Portuguese rather than American made.
      Unfortunately it doesn't look like my training will go ahead when scheduled because of Covid troubles.

      I do! I made a video reviewing the XCEED. I loved it! I demo'd the 20m. I really enjoyed how precise it was (more than anything else). I recall mentioning how it felt as though it were on rails! I can't speak on the beginner wing that they designed since I have never tried it.
