Watching you folks during my family visit in S Leyte… The storm threw our travel plans around… always go with the flow (and storm winds)… finally in Boracay. Always great a great video. 👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Greg, Wilma. A small 1000VA uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit is more than enough to support your starlink and TV. Possibly even a smaller one. Starlink probably, 100-200w (va is close to watts) and your TV say 500w, 1000va should do. The most popular units are probably APC, but there are many. It will be a few hundred dollars if you go for APC. If your mains fails it uses internal batteries to power your equipment for a short time, will you ATS switches between solar and mains. I think for this size they give about 5-10mins on batteries. As your ats in your solar system swaps over in a very short time, seconds, you have plenty of battery life. Even if the outage is a few minutes, once you are back on a stable supply, mains or solar, it recharges the batteries so you have full capacity next time you need it. I hope this helps
@@buildingthephilippines I'm in the data center industry hence my APC recommendation. I've found them to be super solidly built, last forever, and easy to get battery replacements for. I've seen some that have taken huge power surges as well and the gear they were protecting was safe. I agree with the earlier comments on not needing one too big. I would but one of the Pro units however and not one of the $199 models myself. Not only will the capactity be longer, but they're simply better built than consumer models. Love you channel!
Hi Wilma & Greg. Thanks for your video. I also recommend a USP from APC. I had one and was very satisfied. When you buy, just ask, if the unit can also handle change in voltage, because some can, others not.

We've not had any flooding here! Research pays off! Glad you guys weathered the storm well 🙏 Our mutual friends (M&J) in Valencia/Dumaguete were telling me about the rain, wind and power outages over the past couple of days. Another benefit of Pampanga... our power has never flickered... Stay safe you guys, Another storm is brewing up by Guam... 😵💫🌬🌧
Last year I found the APC brand of UPS available on one of the online shopping sites (Lazada or Shopee). This was to help another foreigner out on our subdivision after some brownouts and power surges. He was too tight to buy one and subsequently lost his new television to a power surge.
Hello, My wife and I are 10%'ers and building a home North of Ormoc, in Leyte. We our on Week 40 of our house build on our RUclips channel. We definitely want to install solar and have the same type of setup as you. I know that you said you were pinching pennies during this particular build, but when you were in Leyte did you research any companies or businesses that did solar as a possible future endeavor? Or, do you have any recommendations if you did come across anyone in Leyte? Thank you for taking the time to answer.
We spent a lot of time in Ormoc. We don't know any installers in Leyte. I'm sure there's on in Ormoc, just never seen one. Facebook is always best to locate local companies.

I am dumbfounded as to how many foreigners in the Philippines don't know about and dont use UPS Battery BackUps. If you buy a nice one it conditions your electricity even when you DO have power to keep your electronics from going bad prematurely and then keeps things running when power goes out and gives you time to shut your electronics off if you want or need to. I know most foreigners are using laptops so they keep running when power fails but since everyone's phones are always at 2% in the Philippines you should get one for that addiction. I only buy 1500VA units because that is very reasonable all around and the largest you can get at regular retailers. You'd probaly have to look far and wide to get one that big in the Philippines. I'd put one on all my electronics. Watched The Lincoln Lawyer from the beginning. Very Enjoyable.
@JMRsDesk Our solar setup has a whole house avr that provides pure sine to everything. No need to condition our electricity. The ups would only be attached to our router to eliminate restarts.
Not good for any electronics with voltage drop and resume. If you have something like Ecoflow I would suggest always keeping starlink, tv and refrigerator plugged into Ecoflow and then keep Ecoflow plugged into electric, basically it should work like a APS or just by aps
