Jerry Lewis always claimed he wasn't a dancer, never had lessons. What is obvious is he has an incredible sense of timing. Comedy and dance are all about timing.
My strangest thought while watching this classic piece was: How did he do all those dance moves holding the guitar and NOT trip over the cord...and...with those slick soled shoes of that era, how did he not slip and fall off that risor?? lol. Love this clip!!
You've got to understand how hip this was for its time (1958). Just 3 years after the birth of Rock & Roll. Jerry s genius again mocking the latest trend. There was nobody that had the complete comedy ability of JL. Produce, Direct, Dance, Sing, Play an instrument and of course pantomime. He was so light on his feet and had some great moves even when clowning around. Every move here was worked out. There was nothing he couldn't do well.
Literally, was there anything that Jery Lewis could not do? The man was pure comedic genius, and his movies definitely stand the test of time. I cannot think of any living Hollywood "talent": that can do anything close to what he did on screen and stage.
Absolutely!!! Dancing was an added bonus to all his many talents and gifts!! By the way, did anybody see him dance the Jitterbug?? AMAZING!!! RIP JERRY 🙏🙏🙏
Watched Jerry Lewis when I was a kid, enjoyed. Didn't realize he was a utility performer until I grew up. Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis were the best all around performers of all time.
As a kid watching his movies i would laugh so much. As an adult I'm blown away at how well he moves. He was such a handsome man and really so in comnand of himself. RIP Jerry you were an exceptional talent.
I am a collector of Jerry Lewis movies. I wish I could have all of them in my collection. I do have alot. This is one of my favorites. I have watched it over 300 times, and after seeing this clip, I am going to watch it again tonight. He is so talented and funny.
Happy to say I seen him three time plus was around him by driving his friends to places he was at . I had the honor to drive Dean Martin while he was in New York.
I Love this ! Jerry Lewis was one of my favorite comedians of all time! This video is simply hilarious, one of my favorites of his movies. He had such rhythm and could dance so well.🎈🕺🎶🎼🎵🎶Wow, I was only 2 years older than the beautiful babies and I use to sleep in a dark brown wicker basket when I was an infant all fixed up with blankets and quilts. I see now what my parents meant when they said, "time flies ".RIP. Mr. Lewis .
BobbyD ... Will have to watch this movie tonight. I was just a few months old when this came out. I was born in January 1958, this is 1 movie I never watch of his. What a good weekend to watch it. Labor Day weekend was always Jerry Lewis time with the telethon.
Wow! I can't believe how little views. The picture is the clearest I've seen. This was one of my favorite scenes in this movie. I absolutely adore Jerry Lewis. I watch him whenever he's on. I remember staying up late to watch him on the Late, Late, Late Show on WCBS that played "The Syncopated Clock" as their theme song. Remember that? Wow! Thanks so much for sharing.
I LOVE THIS PART, CAUSE IT SHOWS HOW TALENTED HE WAS. SING, 🕺 DANCE AND PLAY THE DRUMS, PLUS A COMEDIAN AND I MIGHT ALSO SAY HANDSOME TOO. THANKS FOR ALL PLEASE STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏💯💯
-Jerry's great parody of then 1950s rock & roll had us dying as kids. & Seeing this again was a treat for me. & The guy on the standup bass can still scare you at 1st sight lol.
A lady I just met on youtube sons grandfather Frank Wood is playing the saxophone and doing the fancy moves in this scene. She might be closer related to Kevin Bacon TBH.
On this day in 1965 {January 27th} Aretha Franklin performed "Rock-A-Bye Your Baby (With A Dixie Melody)" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Four years earlier on October 9th, 1961 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #37 and spent 9 weeks on the top 100... Nine years earlier in 1956 Jerry Lewis covered it; his version reached #10 on the Top 100... The song was featured in Al Jolson's 1928 movie "The Singing Fool"... R.I.P. Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940-2013}
I, also remember seeing ROCKABYE BABY on network TV back there in my 1960s childhood. It was really, really funny to me then. But - over the intervening years I kinda' wrote it off. Ran into it again on one of the cable channels a while back -- and while it's, OK, maybe a little over-the-top in some ways, still a very engaging and sweet story. And we have the pleasure of seeing Jerry and Gary -- and Connie, who brings her charmingly enthusiastic touch to the little sister role. Somehow I kinda' think she never really got her due!
2:10 This scene wasn’t on script. Jerry was working extremely hard and wanted to spend time with his son. He was looking out for him meanwhile he worked.

Jerry Lewis is one of the most multi-talented performers that I have ever seen!
They all had a lot of strings to their bows. They had to work somehow. Act, sing, play.
Absolutely agree

my sons grandfather Frank Wood is playing the saxophone and doing the fancy moves in this scene
Deborah Boyle so wouldn't that be your father or father in law?
Not a wooden player; more, wailing, live-o.
frank wood is the name of the dancer with jerry?

@@danielcallahan4825 why you have to be a smart ass!
Surely he was from a different planet? No human being could possibly do what he was capable of? Perhaps the greatest comic ever? Of course!

Great guitar solo!
LOL, yes ☺
The drum solo though 😆
I like the Baby's reaction to his playing. Especially with ear muffs.
That’s his son. He was looking out for him during filming. It’s absolutely saddening that his efforts were not acknowledged
