This is really sad. People need to be aware of the dangers of alcohol abuse. It’s important to teach people to say No and not give into peer pressure. The whole culture of fraternities and hazing is messed up.

People have freedom to decide, and Darwinism dictates weakness be culled. I’m sad for him and his family, and I honestly feel the others also had some responsibility to look out for their fellow Americans, but again, at the end of the day, they chose their path, and this was the risk. At the end of the day, he was still a man who had the ability to make his own decisions and stop before he got completely blackout drunk. It's still your fault if you get pressured into making bad decisions by people you met at college months ago.
University allows these bad behavior so they could get more students to come in .This is all too common among universities. This kind of behavior should be not acceptable in an educational system.

When I was younger- being able to drink a lot seemed so cool to me. "Oh you can't drink anymore? Cmon wussy". I took the jokes too seriously when my friends probably cared more for my health. Also, it's so easy to indulge in the vibe (and addiction/temptation). Feel like I intrinsically knew/felt the damage but I made excuses to take it further. Bad ideas! Better way to make memories. I know no one asked + L + ratio but hopefully some random gets some insight from this. What a terrible incident for Danny and his family :( i don't think anyone else is to blame though. I imagine no one at that college would have thought/hoped this would have happened to him.
Exactly. Alcohol is a drug like all the others. I’m 22 I had to quit. Only 124 pounds & could drink like u never seem cuz I was an alcoholic drinking everyday. Glad to say I’ll never drink again

This happens all the time. When I was in college this exact thing happened only the guy died, never woke up the next morning. College kids have no idea how destructive alcohol is.

@LL I stopped drinking even before I got to college. Had no interest in joining any of them either, hanging out with dumbasses isn’t really my thing. I saved a whole bunch of money not drinking which I instead used to go abroad after every semester and graduated with no regrets in that regard.

Yeah a highschool student that went to my school was allergic to alcohol. They slipped some vodka into her orange juice and she was completely unaware. She became very intoxicated and drowned in her own vomit cause no one checked on her. She died of suffocation and multiple organ failure. Things like this shouldn't be taken lightly and charges to the full extent of the law should apply to anyone involved.

One did not consent, the other was pressured by a community, both didn't know the danger, both (almost) died from negligence and for the entertainment of the other party. I can’t imagine what Danny is thinking, just living in a shell of himself for the rest of his life. This is heartbreaking and everyone that made him do this needs to be held accountable to the fullest extent.
No one made him do it, he is a big kid now. He makes his own choices and he chose to drink like that. He didn't have a gun to his head being told to drink all of that. He made a bad choice and now he has to live with it.

Most people actually DON'T know that overdrinking like that on your first few goes can kill you. This isn't a "bad choice he has to live with," it's a horrific accident. @You can trust most people. It's when they become a group when you can no longer be so trustful. A single person is almost all the time trustworthy when you build up your relationship. A group can have high tendencies to abuse, use, and treat you like a bag of garbage and won't even mourn for your death. It's not just fraternities or sororities. Even religious groups ironically often treat their members like tools. Like Mormons and JW's. When you become a member, your goal now is to preach and find new members. They don't care about you as an individual.
There was an 80s Vietnam movie called Platoon. I thought it was cool how they separated units in camp between William Defoes unit which was laid back, not racist, cool and weed smokers. Then there was the hard ass, alcoholic, racist group that everyone was miserable in. Crazy to think this is still true today and powers that be that keep it that way.
He has internet and is a university student. Could have resisted peer pressure. Even Russians don't drink a while bottle of undiluted vodka. I wish his family should not try to ruin another students life.
My mom's worst nightmare when I went to college was exactly this: me being desperate to fit in and doing insane things to make it happen. I have never even been tempted. I'd choose a bit of loneliness anytime over endangering my life.
True. But its important to make sure the teens actually realize the risk of both death AND and lifelong handicaps for doing things like this. I think the risk of getting crippled for life should deter just about anyone. If someone still does it after that, regardless of peer pressure (unless outright threatened/forced), they're just being an idiot and got no excuse. But its still a punishment more than they deserve.
I’m 21, finishing up college. Was at a hall of residence in 1st year where obviously there’s booze everywhere and even in the “non alcoholic building” it was quietly rampant. I refused to give in to peer pressure and play drinking games, which truly is just a euphemism for alcohol abuse. I hardly drink now. I used to a lot then but after a scary experience of lacking control after 6 well-filled glasses of wine within two hours I decided to give drinking up. I’ve never been fully drunk but just seriously tipsy. Always have water and food with alcohol. It’s so sad that young students glorify drinking and voluntarily abuse their bodies for the sake of “fitting in”. I feel amazing, but it’s sad that people admire you for saying you don’t drink only to subtly build peer pressure and ridicule you if you don’t participate. But if that happens then you’re hanging out with the wrong people. Your body is your temple guys (I know it sounds kinda tacky but it’s true), you’ve only got one.

I'm a freshman in college and glad my parents always had a talk with me about these stupid and harmful things that happen in college. I don't even go to college parties and in the very few ones I've been to, I never felt peer pressured. Fortunately I can strongly say no and no one can budge me from my decision to not drink
Fraternities won't do you good, fraternities would lead you to bad things. I joined a frat in my college days and it was my most regrettable decision I've ever had.

When I tried to join, I asked them “what do you guys stand for? Or simply, what do you guys do?” No one gave me an exact answer and only talking about socializing, building community bonds, this and that, I decided not to join any.

I go to the university of Missouri. This is so common it’s ridiculous. I know about 5 people that have died of drug overdoses. I heard about this case but it was like last year. Sadly this is just one of many. That poor guy

I wonder what kind of "brotherhood" the fraternity really shows. It's very very heartbreaking for any parents to see their child almost die for just joining them.
This is why it's important to teach your children about critical thinking and independent thought. I hope my children would look at this situation and say nope.

My God. I didn’t even know fraternity’s still hazed. You have got to teach your child to not engage in peer pressure and never be afraid to GET UP AND LEAVE!! Edit: feel the need to add that I am not trying to take away from the tragedy that occurred. It really is heart breaking what happened to him. The “my God” was more a “my heart breaks to hear that” my God. As a mother and teacher, I really try to stress the importance of never being afraid to walk away from a bad situation verses feeling the pressure of staying because “you’re in too deep”. I realize people on RUclips can be negative and cynical and I hate that my comment might have come off that way.

This is really sad. Almost makes me want to cry. I commuted to college while living with my parents and barely had any friends, mostly spending my time reading in the campus library (I’m a nerd lol), but seeing stuff like this honestly makes me grateful. Perhaps if I was a frat boy things could’ve gone south in many different ways…Either way, people need to wise up and stop these dumb “frat pledge” dares. It’s more like a “suicide pledge”. So pointless and tragic. I really wish this kid all the best.

Seeing the videos of him running around and smiling at the end broke my heart. He didn't deserve this and this is why it's important to teach your kids to stick up for themselves. I hope he finds enjoyment in life

I genuinely can't tell which is the worst way to go, losing your limbs and senses to a landmine like the soldier from Johnny got his gun or your own friends leaving you on your own and then losing them when they come back to rescue you. My condolences go out to him and his family, and the university should be held responsible as well as the other Frat boys.

Now imagine what happened to him and how he came back after being given to this educational facility. Their negligence on this hazing process must have caused physical and emotional trauma that could even extend beyond this incident.
They “prohibit hazing” and yet the conga line of dozens of kids says this is a regular thing for them. Closing down the chapter isn’t enough. Those students need to be held accountable for endangering barely legal teenagers and putting them in dangerous situations.

I keep seeing comments say that the people he was with were untrustworthy but they weren’t. If anything they were incredibly trust worthy and were worried for his well being the entire time.

It’s sad that they were able to revive him. I say that because he’s trapped inside his body now, and if it were me, I wouldn’t want to be trapped in my body, nor would I want my child trapped like this. @@hotbbqporkbun8214 it's fun. I've gotten blackout drunk at a frat before. Forcing them to drink X amount of hard liquor is very dumb though. I've only seen those kind of challenges for beer. Hard to get brain damage from chugging too many beers vs. vodka/spirits.
It's outrageous that the college is still allowing those fraternity "brothers" to stay enrolled there, this school should also be held accountable for what happened to this young man..sad. This makes me alot more thankful that the only friends I ever needed or wanted were my family, fiancé and MAYBE 1 or 2 childhood school-mates. Screw trying to "belong" or fit in
Luckily I was able to stop my daughter from participating in hazing. She was about to inspite of her better judgment. I feel horrible for this family and Danny. Praying that he recovers and that his family gets justice.

It's too bad that the doctors were able to revive him because now he has to live the rest of his life like that, and his mom had to quit her job to take care of him full time.

I almost died when I was 16 from hypothermia and alcohol poisoning. All my friends left me at the place we were drinking because my gf at the time was there... all 120 lbs of her and 190lb me. She couldn't get me over the fence we climbed to get in and thank God she called my parents without my consent. My parents brought me to the hospital and the doctors told them if i was outside 30 minutes longer I would have died. If it weren't for her I wouldn't be here right now
same situation but I wasn't going to let my buddy die. I dragged him to my house and kept him alive all night. I was 14 and he weighed at least 100 lbs more than me. we found a bottle he drank the whole thing. our parents were out of town.
I found it chilling that before the incident he was walking just blind-folded at first to being led on permanently blind afterwards. Prayers to the family.

The kid had no idea that drinking that much Vodka could kill him. At some point he probably had no idea he was still drinking. It's not his fault he ended up like this. He wasn't even old enough to get the alcohol.
@@GuerinGrad09 In all truth, his parents should've better educated him on what alcohol consumption is, and maybe even slowly ease him into recognizing his drinking limits inside the safety of their family home. It's better for young adults to experience their first drink at home under parental supervision so they learn to recognize their drinking limits, and learn how to manage their intoxication do that they'll be better equipped when they do go out drinking in the real world.

These stories should be required to be shown as part of orientation in college. We had to watch sooo many videos about SA and consent and other important things during our orientation, and I think recognizing hazing and the dangers of it should be right up there with them.

And I guess, since car crashes happen and we all know that, we shouldn’t talk about the importance of wearing a seatbelt, because we *all* know we should. @@benijen A person's basically dead when they're in that sort of position. And I think the same way. If something like that happened to me, I'd want the plug pulled too. Sure it's not the same for everyone. But in my opinion, there's just no point in staying around anymore. My family would either suffer mentally with my death, or I'd suffer physically being kept alive in a state like that.
Its indoctrination, they use psychological tactics to keep people in wether deliberately or not. These people cloud your judgment because they get you to trust them.
Honstly it's a struggle to say no especially as a young adult. Hazing is so outdated. Fraternity life never interested me, but fraternities/sororities need to see these videos to prevent unfortunate consequences like this.

However...if he remains in a persistent vegetative state past twelve months, it is unlikely he will live out his full life span. i mean... You know what, yes what they did to him was horrible but I also have an unpopular opinion that the parents also have a hand in this. Raise your kids to be able to think for their benefit and say no to stupid stuff. if it was me, there is no way in hell I would have done any of this. Imagine sending your child to college so they can get an education, life experiences, and Jumpstart their future and they come back like this. What awful things they do. Knowing they'll be like this the rest of their life. My heart breaks for them.
We don't have fraternities in Ireland but most of us go through a phase of heavy drinking from 16/17-22 where it's completely normal to drink until you vomit and get into all sorts of insane situations. It's all fun and games but looking back on it I'm surprised we all survived.
For me I never had the desire to do any of that stuff like drinking and doing drugs. I already deal with health problems and don't want anything to do with that stuff.

They’re shallow men that think they’re building a brotherhood when really they’re just training their new guys to haze the next rush class. I wasn’t hazed as a pledge for my fraternity and it’s gonna stay that way AS IT SHOULD! This is horrible stuff like this enrages me.
If you don't want to be involved in stupid; don't join a fraternity, or a sorority for that matter. Fear of missing out is a very dangerous thing for the non-self-aware. Go to a library and read some Plato -- you'll be better equipped for the future than anything that fraternity or sorority hazing can yield. Don't join a fraternity/sorority/cult and you won't need to worry about this garbage. Never take an action which jeopardizes your survival.
@@informationoverload2487 you'd be surprised. It really can be a vicious cycle of "it's my turn now that I'm an upperclassmen" might not be spite but sometimes they do feel a sense of like they deserve to be the hazer now they're an upperclassmen because they got hazed as a freshman.

Seriously,who would have thought such a supposedly small incident which almost everyone in the fraternity takes part in would turn out to be a big life changer for one poor kid. His life went from dreams and aspirations to just surviving. So horrible and sad! May he recovers as soon as possible and get the chance to follow his aspirations again. I’m an ICU RN and I’ve seen this a handful of times where young teenagers or adults overdrink alcohol or overdose on drugs at a party and they end up coming to us. They sadly end up either in a vegetative state or in a coma . Be responsible!!!!!! Life is too short!!!

I actually hope they let him die. Not to punish him, but because he cant possibly have a fulfilling life after that, his life is ruined permanently. And I can understand that may be sad and difficult for them to do, but then would you rather be the one who is crippled for life in multiple ways? Or the one who has to mourn one of your loved ones but you're at least still functioning and have a chance of finding real fulfillment and accomplish something you want? When I was in high school and in band, we did some initiations but we kept it fun. I can’t imagine ever taking it to this point. One of the things we did was, because we did an overnight camp, was wake the freshman up early, give them a bunch of ugly clothes and had them do a fashion show during breakfast. It. Was. HILARIOUS. They all took it up a notch and the guys put drag makeup on, the girls brought their inner kings out, they had such a blast. The rest of the day, they were sleep deprived but that’s it. This degree to basically end someone’s life can never be ok or accepted.
This is so incredibly sad. Danny had a bright future ahead of him and now to be a shell of who he once was is heartbreaking. The boys who caused this 1 million percent need to be held responsible! The campus should be monitoring that these types of things DONT happen! Everyone knows frats and sororities have hazing or a period of time where there could be hazing! That period of time someone should be responsible in making sure things like this don’t happen! NO 18 year old should ever drink a full bottle of vodka! That’s asking for a disaster!! If a system was set in place to avoid this Danny wouldn’t be in the situation he is! If the boys had half a brain they would’ve realized that, that much vodka is incredibly dangerous to drink! Glad I never was inclined to "belong" to a group so badly. I love how the fraternity that crippled him for life got to self-proclaim that this "chapter was over", but they can all walk and talk.

Honestly no alcohol should ever be allowed in college fraternities, because obviously there’s no responsibility. Peer pressure is too high & no one seems to care. Extremely heart wrenching to see what this young man went through. God bless him❤️🙏
I'm pretty sure most colleges don't allow alcohol on campus but that doesn't stop the frats off campus. Even if they made a rule against having alcohol in the frats, kids will be kids and still sneak it.
Yeah fun fact: in this particular case the person who was supposed to supervise and make sure that nothing like this was going on helped to supply the alcohol. So, the system is absolutely broken.

I went to a big state school in 2008 as a freshman and they were so serious about hazing and alcohol abuse you couldn't even joke about it without facing consequences. Kind of surprising all these years later I'm still hearing incredible stories of outright abuse. Very sad this kids life has been ruined
Exactly....this is a resurgence because I was in college in 07 and frats were plummeting in popularity. They must have embarrassed social media toxicity and aesthetic partying to get so many young kids

I feel really bad for the guy. However, I’m not suprised these actions were caused by trying to get into a frat. Getting into a frat is risky in its own ways with school, your life in this instance, and many other factors. When I was younger- being able to drink a lot seemed so cool to me. "Oh you can't drink anymore? Cmon wussy". I took the jokes too seriously when my friends probably cared more for my health. Also, it's so easy to indulge in the vibe (and addiction/temptation). Feel like I intrinsically knew/felt the damage but I made excuses to take it further. Bad ideas! Better way to make memories.

No I'm from California and I too don't understand it.
Yeah a highschool student that went to my school was allergic to alcohol. They slipped some vodka into her orange juice and she was completely unaware. She became very intoxicated and drowned in her own vomit cause no one checked on her. She died of suffocation and multiple organ failure. Things like this shouldn't be taken lightly and charges to the full extent of the law should apply to anyone involved.

@You can trust most people. It's when they become a group when you can no longer be so trustful. A single person is almost all the time trustworthy when you build up your relationship. A group can have high tendencies to abuse, use, and treat you like a bag of garbage and won't even mourn for your death. It's not just fraternities or sororities. Even religious groups ironically often treat their members like tools. Like Mormons and JW's. When you become a member, your goal now is to preach and find new members. They don't care about you as an individual.
There was an 80s Vietnam movie called Platoon. I thought it was cool how they separated units in camp between William Defoes unit which was laid back, not racist, cool and weed smokers. Then there was the hard ass, alcoholic, racist group that everyone was miserable in. Crazy to think this is still true today and powers that be that keep it that way.

True. But its important to make sure the teens actually realize the risk of both death AND and lifelong handicaps for doing things like this. I think the risk of getting crippled for life should deter just about anyone. If someone still does it after that, regardless of peer pressure (unless outright threatened/forced), they're just being an idiot and got no excuse. But its still a punishment more than they deserve.

I’m 21, finishing up college. Was at a hall of residence in 1st year where obviously there’s booze everywhere and even in the “non alcoholic building” it was quietly rampant. I refused to give in to peer pressure and play drinking games, which truly is just a euphemism for alcohol abuse. I hardly drink now. I used to a lot then but after a scary experience of lacking control after 6 well-filled glasses of wine within two hours I decided to give drinking up. I’ve never been fully drunk but just seriously tipsy. Always have water and food with alcohol. It’s so sad that young students glorify drinking and voluntarily abuse their bodies for the sake of “fitting in”. I feel amazing, but it’s sad that people admire you for saying you don’t drink only to subtly build peer pressure and ridicule you if you don’t participate. But if that happens then you’re hanging out with the wrong people. Your body is your temple guys (I know it sounds kinda tacky but it’s true), you’ve only got one.
Only the least intelligent people in society glorify drinking....
They get what they deserve....

I don't even go to college parties and in the very few ones I've been to, I never felt peer pressured. Fortunately I can strongly say no and no one can budge me from my decision to not drink

Edit: feel the need to add that I am not trying to take away from the tragedy that occurred. It really is heart breaking what happened to him. The “my God” was more a “my heart breaks to hear that” my God. As a mother and teacher, I really try to stress the importance of never being afraid to walk away from a bad situation verses feeling the pressure of staying because “you’re in too deep”. I realize people on RUclips can be negative and cynical and I hate that my comment might have come off that way.

This is really sad. Almost makes me want to cry. I commuted to college while living with my parents and barely had any friends, mostly spending my time reading in the campus library (I’m a nerd lol), but seeing stuff like this honestly makes me grateful. Perhaps if I was a frat boy things could’ve gone south in many different ways…Either way, people need to wise up and stop these dumb “frat pledge” dares. It’s more like a “suicide pledge”. So pointless and tragic. I really wish this kid all the best.

I genuinely can't tell which is the worst way to go, losing your limbs and senses to a landmine like the soldier from Johnny got his gun or your own friends leaving you on your own and then losing them when they come back to rescue you. It's outrageous that the college is still allowing those fraternity "brothers" to stay enrolled there, this school should also be held accountable for what happened to this young man..sad. Luckily I was able to stop my daughter from participating in hazing. She was about to inspite of her better judgment. I feel horrible for this family and Danny. Praying that he recovers and that his family gets justice.

I almost died when I was 16 from hypothermia and alcohol poisoning. All my friends left me at the place we were drinking because my gf at the time was there... all 120 lbs of her and 190lb me. She couldn't get me over the fence we climbed to get in and thank God she called my parents without my consent. My parents brought me to the hospital and the doctors told them if i was outside 30 minutes longer I would have died. If it weren't for her I wouldn't be here right now

same situation but I wasn't going to let my buddy die. I dragged him to my house and kept him alive all night. I was 14 and he weighed at least 100 lbs more than me. we found a bottle he drank the whole thing. our parents were out of town.

The kid had no idea that drinking that much Vodka could kill him. At some point he probably had no idea he was still drinking. It's not his fault he ended up like this. He wasn't even old enough to get the alcohol.

It's better for young adults to experience their first drink at home under parental supervision so they learn to recognize their drinking limits, and learn how to manage their intoxication do that they'll be better equipped when they do go out drinking in the real world.

We don't have fraternities in Ireland but most of us go through a phase of heavy drinking from 16/17-22 where it's completely normal to drink until you vomit and get into all sorts of insane situations. It's all fun and games but looking back on it I'm surprised we all survived.

I’m an ICU RN and I’ve seen this a handful of times where young teenagers or adults overdrink alcohol or overdose on drugs at a party and they end up coming to us. They sadly end up either in a vegetative state or in a coma . Be responsible!!!!!! Life is too short!!!

When I was in high school and in band, we did some initiations but we kept it fun. I can’t imagine ever taking it to this point. One of the things we did was, because we did an overnight camp, was wake the freshman up early, give them a bunch of ugly clothes and had them do a fashion show during breakfast. It. Was. HILARIOUS. They all took it up a notch and the guys put drag makeup on, the girls brought their inner kings out, they had such a blast. The rest of the day, they were sleep deprived but that’s it. This degree to basically end someone’s life can never be ok or accepted.
This is so incredibly sad. Danny had a bright future ahead of him and now to be a shell of who he once was is heartbreaking. The boys who caused this 1 million percent need to be held responsible! The campus should be monitoring that these types of things DONT happen! Everyone knows frats and sororities have hazing or a period of time where there could be hazing! That period of time someone should be responsible in making sure things like this don’t happen!
NO 18 year old should ever drink a full bottle of vodka! That’s asking for a disaster!! If a system was set in place to avoid this Danny wouldn’t be in the situation he is!
If the boys had half a brain they would’ve realized that, that much vodka is incredibly dangerous to drink! Then you don’t call 911 instead try and carry him AND DROP him !!! Why didn’t two ppl hold him???

@@chelseagomez758 He probably didn't think about that but realistically he could have just dumped out 80% of the bottle and filled it with water, let everyone watch him chugg the 80% volume of liquid, and the other 20% would still taste very "alcohol" like if anyone else were to test the bottle.
Glad I never was inclined to "belong" to a group so badly. I love how the fraternity that crippled him for life got to self-proclaim that this "chapter was over", but they can all walk and talk.
He would still be in the frat if it was someone else and not him. Its a consequence of a stupid decision. He made that decision.

Honestly no alcohol should ever be allowed in college fraternities, because obviously there’s no responsibility. Peer pressure is too high & no one seems to care. Extremely heart wrenching to see what this young man went through. God bless him❤️🙏

I'm pretty sure most colleges don't allow alcohol on campus but that doesn't stop the frats off campus. Even if they made a rule against having alcohol in the frats, kids will be kids and still sneak it.
Yeah fun fact: in this particular case the person who was supposed to supervise and make sure that nothing like this was going on helped to supply the alcohol. So, the system is absolutely broken.

I went to a big state school in 2008 as a freshman and they were so serious about hazing and alcohol abuse you couldn't even joke about it without facing consequences. Kind of surprising all these years later I'm still hearing incredible stories of outright abuse. Very sad this kids life has been ruined
Exactly....this is a resurgence because I was in college in 07 and frats were plummeting in popularity.
They must have embarrassed social media toxicity and aesthetic partying to get so many young kids

I feel really bad for the guy. However, I’m not suprised these actions were caused by trying to get into a frat. Getting into a frat is risky in its own ways with school, your life in this instance, and many other factors. People say it is peer pressure in which at some cases it is, but others reasons why we’re just policy in order to get into the frat. Sad to see. Prayers up to the man
