Eternal Champions - Challenge From the Dark Side is a Sega Mega-CD fighting game released in 1995 and is the sequel to the Sega Mega Drive title, Eternal Champions. Similarly to Mortal Kombat, this game has significantly gory finishing moves.
Aside from the gory finishing moves, blood was not very prevalent. Instead, blood is only shown when a character is close to being fatigued (as in stunned temporarily). Many fans simply refer to this game as Eternal Champions CD or Eternal Champions 2 for short.
The game is considered by many to be underrated and a rarely played lost gem due to the fact that the Sega CD failed to sell well and the fact it was released so close to the end of the add-on's lifespan.

This is a game that should come back I love this game it deserves a remake
I just noticed on the Salem Sudden Death (the lightning bolt strike) the owl that's perched on the tree gets taken by the lightning bolt too.
Wow so creative but so violent. Impressive nonetheless. The artists worked hard on this!
Too bad Sega of Japan had basically a hand in killing Eternal Champions to try to push Virtua Fighter.
The creators of Mortal Kombat,are starting to think like this.
Greatest fighting game ever! Made Mortal Kombat look like a G rated cartoon.
These are the best stage fatalities in any fighting game,then,now,and into the future.

I remember seeing a two page ad for this game in SEGA VISIONS magazine. The tag line was "To prepare for ETERNAL CHAMPIONS, use STREET FIGHTER II as your training wheels."
Do you remember crispy the chicken. Had a move where a farmer ran past and chopped his head off. But I can’t find it online 🤣

i kinsa wished that at 3:08, the boulder would've crushed his lower body, and when the fella tried to get away, the boulder then rolled over and crushed the rest of the body, but thats just me. it was still awesome regardless
I just wish the load times weren't so horrifically long with every fatality
I don't understand why they didn't leave it how it was in the first game. Where it would happen instantly, and the winner didn't leave the stage. Made it a lot more unexpected.
@@wutaguy CD loading times is why there is a delay.... When you'd do the fatality it literally had to spin up on the disc where it was at and load the animations. The ram on the Sega CD alone basically just held the characters / stage.
Please Sega, make an new version from tis game!

The long audio delays made the game unenjoyable. The Genesis version didn't have these uncomfortable silences. The 32X was supposed to be superior! No wonder why it failed...
This is the Sega CD, though. The 32X never got an Eternal Champions game.
But it still was a waste of everyone's time and resources, sure.

Se não fosse a dificuldade de executar os fatais, esse jogo teria versões até hoje. Violento e sombrio como nenhum Mortal Kombat conseguiu ser até hoje.

In all honesty, bringing back a dead comic character under the context of the game is a neat crossover idea.

The lack of any music playing during the finishing moves seems like an odd choice. They are all very well-animated though, and ridiculously gruesome.
There was a video with all the characters and there bios, where is it?

Is there any kind of emulator that'll allow someone to play this variation of the game lol? Ive only played the og Eternal Champions on Sega Genesis but not this one.
Of course they would kill my favorite character on the stage that traumatized me the most, getting horribly inpaled on a log

Unfortunately the Genesis version wasn't as good :( they cut out A LOT of the gore. It's a shame that there was/is so few people who had/have a Sega CD, this series was probably the only Mortal Kombat clone that actually had a ton of talented and inspired artists.
