    • @sandralison7584
      @sandralison7584 8 месяцев назад +6

      Yes its terrible and heartbreaking that on South America, especially Peru indigenous languages and cultures are erased and people who speak them are shamed😢 even if Peru profits from indigenous heritage from tourists. Its really heartbreaking. They don't know what humanity and indigenous people are loosing 😢

    • @rattlecat5968
      @rattlecat5968 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@sandralison7584I didn't know Qechua was being shamed. My father learned to speak it as it was common, even in Lima, when he was a child. He would speak it to me, when I was young and it was such a unique sounding language to me. Clicks and strange verbalizations that I could never repeat. I hope it survives.

    • @sandralison7584
      @sandralison7584 8 месяцев назад

      @@rattlecat5968 Yes they shame people speaking quechua and other indigenous languages. They shame them as being dumb and uneducated. Many people in peru don't teach or don't want to teach thier children anymore because they think they will be discriminated against and many don't want it to be teached in schools, because they think the kids will not have good enough education. Witch of course is bull crap. But because indigenous people where kept poor in peru, people with indigenous culture and who live thier culture are seen as "uneducated" even when actually speaking a language like for example quechua is an education, and don't harm the education of other topics. But nevertheless they are shamed abd discriminated when they keep thier culture and language.

    • @sandralison7584
      @sandralison7584 8 месяцев назад

      @@rattlecat5968 agree quechua is a really beautiful and unique language. I like hearing quechua music, there exists even artists today, and one guy even made a BTS song cover in quechua. I like also that it's a polysynthetic language and its is so unique and interesting and doesn't have a gender.

I’m working on reclaiming my mother’s Cherokee language right now, which is syllabary, not Latin letters like Greenlandic and my dad’s Muscogee. You give me hope! May have to ask her sometime when there's time for chitchats (like quiet time in the store so no queue behind), and I do hope she can speak it, it's a beautiful language and needs to be protected at all costs so the language stays for many many many years to come

    As a Dane, I'm happy we didn't manage to replace your language and culture entirely.
    And as a father of mixed culture kids. Insist on your native language. They'll learn other languages of course. Just be persistent by always answering in Greenlandic, even when they ask you in English.
    My kids have grown up with Danish, Cantonese and English. My younger kid found out that everyone understands English... also the pedagogs in kindergarten... but I Insist on answering in Danish, because it's the smaller language and it's difficult to obtain fluency if you never use it. There will be phases where the kids will test you.
    So, keep doing what you do, they'll learn English and/or Danish somewhere else.. being multilingual is a great thing, and I admire my older kid for being able to switch between 3 languages seamlessly.
    Best wishes 👍✌️

    I love how the Greenlandic word for rhubarb sounds exactly like the German word. Thank you, so interesting and educational ❤

    In a place like Canada where I was born and raised, so many indigenous languages have either completely vanished or on the verge of because of colonization. It is so lovely to see a place in a place like Greenland that, despite colonization, both language and culture continue to thrive!
    Life is amazing! ❤️🤍❤️

    I love the spirit in Greenland. I live in Quebec, the only French speaking province in Canada and North America. Here, the government forces people to speak French to preserve the French language. They absolutely HATE English and many Quebecers will intentionally tell you they don’t understand English even though they do.
    I support preserving one’s own language and culture, but English is THE universal language that children should be well taught from a young age. Thank you again for educating us about Greenland ❤

      Will Quebecers hate it if you speak other languages like Swedish?

      @@titan9259 What I meant is talking to a stranger in public, like asking where is the dairy section in a grocery store. You can either use English or French because those are the official languages in Canada, not many people speak Swedish here!
      They hate English because of the historical background… but in big cities like Montreal, you can hear a lot more English than 30 years ago. That being said, some close-minded Quebecers still refuse to speak English.
