    Phil and Ricardo Migliarese began their journey over 30 years ago by themselves, when jiu-jitsu had not even established itself in North America.
    Under the guidance of Relson Gracie and the inspiration of Helio Gracie, the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, the Migliarese brothers became some of the first black belts in the United States. Today, almost 20 years after they opened their first school in Philadelphia, they have created a community, a family, of diverse individuals who are dedicated to learning from one another, on the mat and off.
    “Balance Studios: A Jiu-Jitsu Story” gives the viewer a unique perspective into the service-oriented experience that the Migliarese brothers have created, and how it touches the lives of people in Philadelphia and at more than 40 global affiliates.

    I trained will Rick and Phil when they were at Maxercise and when they first started Balance Studios. Yes they are the real deal! And the stories I know from back then will attest to that. I won't reveal these stories, but those who were around back then know! I'm proud of the brothers and their accomplishments! Keep Authentic GJJ alive!

      Steve Maxwell was 3 stripes ahead of Phil and got his faixa-preta from Relson in 2001. Phil and Jeff Hudson got theirs the following year in 2002 at the Pan-Ams from Relson. Rick taught the basic class at Maxercise when he was a faixa-roxa, while Steve taught the advanced class. At one point, Steve was barely teaching at all and Rick was doing most of the teaching at Maxercise. Rick was a faixa-marron when he and Phil first opened Balance Studios in Center City.

    I joined balance studios two months ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made as an adult. Training jiu jitsu and Muay Thai has made me want to better myself in all aspects of my life. I quit smoking after 10 years and I have changed my diet. This shits addicting as hell.

    awesome dojo. I started at Balance as a white belt years ago and got hooked...now I'm a black belt and still training. Big credit to Phil and Rick for introducing me to the gentle art.

    Great place! When I travel, I always pack my Gi... I looked up BJJ in the Philly area and Balance Studies popped up. It was an awesome experience and everyone was respectful. The Black Belts I rolled with were very technical but more importantly to me, they weren't 'Ego-Assholes'. If I'm ever relocated to that area, I know where I would train. I definitely need to plan another Philly trip🤙🥋

    • @perfectsplit5515
      @perfectsplit5515 5 лет назад

      IMO, most BJJ people are not Ego-Assholes. Usually, they are the opposite. In order to get good at BJJ, one must get his ass kicked about a gazillion times.
