The difference betwen this sistem of jiu-jitsu for real fighting and the tournament competition jiu-jitsu is HUGE. God bless Grand Master Helio Gracie for sharing his techniques with the world, and let´s be thankfull for the instructors that are still teaching this perfect sistem!!!
The Jiu-Jitsu that Grand Master Helio Gracie created was intended for self defense; that is real fighting with no rules, no time limits and no weight classes. It´s the sistem that gives the little guy a chance of surviving against (and eventually defeating) a bigger, stronger oponent, and that is why it emphasyses defense over ofense, because that´s what you should do against someone a lot bigger than you.
1. Two hand choke from front -- Weave and punch 2. ... Escape / knee strike 3. ... Enter / Koshi Guruma 4. ... break wrist tension and using brace leg against body 5. ...trap arms, O Goshi 6. Standing side headlock defense -- stop arm, posture up, go around behind for arm lock 7. ... te guruma... juji gatame (arm bar) 8. ...yoko guruma... juji gatame 9. ... tani otoshi, juji gatame 10. Standing choke from behind -- seio nage 11. ... kotegaeshi 12. ... sukui nage 13. ... single leg pickup from behind
14. Standing guillotine -- kouchi gake makikomi 15. ... sumi gaeshi 16. Bear hug from front -- o goshi 17. ... knee strike (hiza geri) 18. Seems like an attack not a defense? O goshi entering from grabbing the arm 19. Counters one of the defenses, which is arguably a defense -- counters an otoshi with a mount 20. Defense against front kick (mae geri) -- Kokyu nage (lift leg up and drop opponent) 21. ... elbow strike 22. ... catch kick, reaping (sickle) throw 23. An attack not a defense -- from boxing range, fake front kick, clinch, te guruma throw, mount, americana 24. ... but more of a two-hand reap ("blast double"/morote gari) they turn, goes for rear naked choke 25. ... fake kick, clinch, tani otoshi, arm bar
I can respect your preference but not your bias. For the most part, i am interested in street applicable Jiu-Jitsu. I like Helio Gracie's lineage and the teaching style they employ. I wish you all the best.
@@nathanbarbour1 Are you out of mind? And he never get promoted because he DOES NOT CONPETE. Being pushed aside by your sensei just because you don't want to take the chances of getting injured for a piece of medal?
@EnchantedOrchids i've checked out Kimberley Smith..good match! So you're still working hard for the next tournament? RSPCT! When are we getting to see your matches???
no- these techniques werent peculiar to gracie jiu jitsu- they were just the techniques that seemed to work against larger, stronger opponents honestly- i dont know why people seem to think Aikido doesnt work either- basically all trained in the same manner just different techniques.... i know for a fact they both work in the right circumstances... for a fact- i dont care what anyone says... i have experienced both scenarios... truthfully
Good Video guys, dont understand the People making comments about striking. BJJ has proven itself against much bigger opponents many times, you need to be a good striker to be confident of doing that. Enjoyed.
that said, i have to admit judo is more appealing to me, because of the transitions, to get a bigger/heavier opponent down you gotta use their balance and then apply a technique and when they hit the ground hard you quickly get them into a choke/strangle or an armbar/leg lock whatever so on the street imo judo is superior for this reason, i mean have you ever been thrown by a judoka and landed on conrete? that alone fucks you up for about 10 seconds, long enough for a judoka to apply a choke etc
@JJ2006Ice If you read my message. I wrote as far as I understand it. I don't claim to be an expert. However, Maeda taught Judo this is very well doucumented. In fact, Carlos Gracie originally called Grace Jiu Jitsu 'Brazilian Judo'. I was told that directly from Carlos Machado at the IMB Academy and read it in interviews. If I'm wrong so be it. As for Kung Fu's role it also very well documented that they were practising grappling long before Jujitsu was even a thought, so were the greeks.
very good video folks. crisp technique, from what i've read, Helio was upset that the art had gone more known in the way of sports (like Judo) than for self defense. most schools i've seen have maybe a handful of SD techs, and the rest is for competition. defending yourself is much diff psychologically, physically than stepping into a ring. thumbs up dudes
Jujutsu is jujutsu be it Japanese or Brazilian. Everybody has 2 arms and 2 legs so there is only so many things you can do before it all looks the same. It's the emphasis is what changes from style to style
0:57 i did that move against my opponent who was a lot heavier than me,i am approximately 75 kg, it's a great move against headlock, i did it several times in one fight and every time succeed.
I studied Karate, Boxing, Judo, and Helio Gracie Jiujitsu and I can tell you that my effectiveness in real combative situations starts with my boxing, judo, and karate-do but rarely ends with them, unless I attack, It's 25% of the time finishing that way, and of that, much is by a chance strike, which leaves Gracie Jiujitsu with a 75% ability to finish the fight. How many fights have you finished and how? If it doesn't have a weight to it then how can it be heavy?
They are the same, if you are talking about the self-defense techniques. In Brazil, everyone calls it Jiu-jitsu. BJJ is what those outside Brazil call it and, Gracie Jiu-jitsu is a marketing term used by Rorion. Every good Brazilian instructor can teach the self-defense techniques, but most are interested in the sporting aspect, so they concentrate on that.
@denverstapleton there is a lot of overlap in techniques of brazilian/gracie jiu jitsu, judo, aikido and japanese jujutsu I have practiced in all of them and stuck with gracie jiujitsu, but I think what it comes down to is the way the techniques are practiced, the philosophy and the particular gym you practice at. aikido techniques definately works- as in the techniques hurt, but I prefer the way gracie/bjj is being practiced at my particular gym, full speed but lot of emphasis on self defense
@dudesrock2 - I believe that 'BJJ' is an American term. I have friends from Brazil that say in Brazil, Jiu Jitsu is simply 'Jiu Jitsu' like in any other country, with no claim of it being invented in Brazil.
Helio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu became famous because of the vale-tudo fights; he created an art for self defense. He never intended it to be a tournament sport with rules, points and weight classes...
Why does every martial arts video on youtube always have some random dude who thinks they no better? Go ahead, go show the Migliarese brothers what they're doing wrong...goodluck.
I think that the critic that is fair that is if someone trains these techniques they can pull them off against average people but why not improve these old stand up techniques that are outdated and not improved. I teach 1/2 of these mostly the ground because I think they are good, but the stand up is mostly outdated and not an improvement.
but if a fight goes to the ground a BJJ student/master has the advantage, but the thing is with a good judoka the fight wouldnt go to the ground, they'd use ther techniques to throw their opponent to the ground first and then when the opponent is all dazed and confused as to how he ended up on the ground you apply a strangle/choke or submission, you could put him to sleep by the time he realises whats going on alot of the times though a good throw on concrete is enough they are winded
The difference betwen this sistem of jiu-jitsu for real fighting and the tournament competition jiu-jitsu is HUGE. God bless Grand Master Helio Gracie for sharing his techniques with the world, and let´s be thankfull for the instructors that are still teaching this perfect sistem!!!
this is the TRUE gracie jiu-jitsu. thank you guys for putting it out there for the world to see.
Amen this is true heilo Gracie jiujitsu
I trained with them way back in the early 2000s at Maxercise. Great instruction!
I've been studying bjj for over five years now, and I still love this video, and visit it for reference.
This is clearly one of the BEST demonstration videos I've ever seen!!! Great techniques!!!
This is an incredible tribute to an incredible man from two great practitioners

The best demonstration I have seen. I learned with the Master Cycle, this is refreshing to find on RUclips.
I am HONORED that I train under the Migliarese Brothers and am a part of #TeamBalance
I am proud to be a student of these 2 amazing Martial Artists-

You Migliarese brothers did a fantabulious job in this video! Heck I got winded just by looking at you do all the moves! :)
To be able to tell any man that he cannot defeat you is to wield true power - Saulo Ribeiro (on Helio Gracie)

GREAT video. You guys rock!
This is why I train at a Gracie Academy certified center. They focus on Jiu-Jitsu as an art of self defense.
Go train at Gracie Barra, get out of the GCTC immediately! You are being ripped off. go give Gracie Barra a try and you will understand what i mean.
I can respect your preference but not your bias. For the most part, i am interested in street applicable Jiu-Jitsu. I like Helio Gracie's lineage and the teaching style they employ. I wish you all the best.

Beautiful. Thanks for this video.
Really great video, well done!
At 1:30 (the rear bear hug escape), do you need to use your hands to scoop the attacker over you?
Fantastic video! I wish people put more emphasis on defese persao instead "the game" jugao. thank you very much.
Thank you, this is great to me
real martial arts I like it , I like it nice crisp tecniques

Awesome video
great vid boys
since last week i begun bjj will i learn some self defense like this after a while? or have i to train special self defense bjj?
So actually gjj self defence is Judo/jujutsu self defence techniques. But sport bjj is great sport with a lot of fun
Lol. That’s what it looks like to me.
jason X even the quote at the beginning is plagarising Jigoro Kano's mantra of Ju Yoku Go Wo Seisu
Yep basically the same Kata. The original GJJ that I saw has some strikes in it as in the older kodokan curriculum.
Jujutsu is jujutsu be it Japanese or Brazilian. Everybody has 2 arms and 2 legs so there is only so many things you can do before it all looks the same. It's the emphasis is what changes from style to style
It's a derivative of Japanese ju jitsu, hence the name
Great vid, BJJ is very good for self defense too.
parabens, otimo video!
who is your instructor? im curious
I practice judo and bjj and I love both ,even a weak person can defeat a strong, muscular person by just a choke or juji jatame or even a throw . 🤩
thank you!
great vid
now a day trainers dont
teach bjj from a self defense perspective, they dont teach these technique
great video
0:57 i did that move against my opponent who was a lot heavier than me,i am approximately 75 kg, it's a great move against headlock, i did it several times in one fight and every time succeed.
