They seemed to have made all the suggested changes you spoke of. I ordered a blue and red one to race with my sons. Your reviews are valuable. Thank you.
Cutting a slot in the chassis under the spur gear made a world of difference for me. So much sand and dirt used to accumulate in the motor module but now it just falls out the slot.
Power module typhon 3s. I too was getting a ton of debris underneath the module. I cut a slot in the chassis directly underneath the spur gear (which I would prefer not to do) But it helped immensely giving sand/dirt a place to escape. The size is about 3mm wide by 6 mm long
For the issue with dirt and grime getting in the gearbox with the pinion and spur gears, simply apply some marine or axle grease around the opening on the bottom of the cassis where the spur gear is exposed as well as around the outside bottom edge of the drive assembly. The grease will collect all the sand and crap trying to get in there. Simply wipe off when you're done, reapply and problem solved. Also, slide and secure with a drop of super glue a small o ring where the shaft that connects to the back end of the drive shaft comes out of the adjustable motor plate. That also helps a lot. Got this info off a blog and it really helped. If you want more info let me know and I'll see if I can find the link.
I have the Typhon and Granite 3s BLX's... the driveshaft on my Typhon looks like a wood lathe project in the motor area (but hasn't snapped yet) - for the center driveshaft scoring issue (when pebbles get wedged between motor), I cut a square piece of flexible plastic (eg mulk jug, etc) and made a small "tunnel" in that area - taped to the red battery sheild, and then keyed into a cooling fin on the motor. Has worked well on keeping the the schmoo out of that area.
Great video I am trying to do a lot of research into these but I am stuck on which one to get. if you could only get one car, which model would you get between these 2 and the granite thanks pete.
Hmm, I'm a monster truck guy, so I'd probably get the Granite. But between these two alone is kinda hard. It really comes down to where you're gonna run the car and what sort of bashing you'll be doing, then that might help narrow it down... Hope that helps.
I love you videos, especially the Carnage videos. :-) The Senton 3s was my first ground vehicle. I ran it so much that I wore the front skid plate all the way through. No other broken parts. I find that to be tough. The only negative that I have found is if you run It Wide Open on 3s the body will rub the tires And send it cartwheeling down the road. It has been collecting a little dust lately because I have been running my Mojave, Dbxl-e 2.0, and Infraction most of the time. Keep up the great work. Thank you, Jim
Thumbs up for the Arrmas . dont have one yet , but as soon as amazon gets some more arrma typhons in the 3 s blx ones , im getting one . i thought about the mega version too , but i need to watch more reviews on the none brushlees one
2 days ago i had a small pebble and a piece of glass stuck underneath the cooling rib of the motor, making it all but impossible to remove the motor compartment. Also, like you mentioned, a bit of sand in the gears. Senton 3s btw.
Regarding the dirt that collects under the power pod; I burned through two spur gears on my Senton because sand collected in the low area and would get shoveled into the gear box. I then cut a hole in the chassis like they have in the 6s cars. The sand just gets blown out the bottom now and haven't had a problem with the gear since. I have taken it apart several times to check the gears and was able to disassemble fairly easily, but do have to pry it the first little bit to get it apart.
great review Vas! Blown away at how tough these are. I have broken the rims on two of my typhon tires. I put the Duratrax tires on, rock solid ever since
I agree with almost all of this, except value should be 5/5. I have a 3s Typhon and it's honestly done nothing but impress me. To be fair, I bought a v3 so some of the things criticized have been fixed! Great review!
Was surprised to see this review, oddly enough your unboxing video sealed the deal and pushed me to buy a senton to accompany my traxxas slash 4x4. I for one definately appreaciate your views and opinions from the pros to the cons. At first i wasnt exactly blown away by it, mine did come with the tactic system but it did suffer from leaky shocks and the tires blew apart in the second run. Arrma did warranty tires and the shock rebuild kits (still leaked) but in comparison to the money ive spent on the slash to get it upto par with the senton , i believe the senton is the better investment for your dollar. Thank you for following up on a long time use/review
It took a while but still a excellent and honest review! For what I have seen on RUclips the 3S line is very good and strong. Great cars for the money and maybe more affordable for those who can’t affort or don’t want to spend as much as a 6S would cost.
Hey do you think i will able to swap typhoon body to senton because rear body mounts look same maybe some modification will able do that, please let me know because senton is 100 dollar less than typhoon, thanks
Another great video Vas. The thing that I think needs changing in my opinion is the tab on the power module that you lift to remove it. Surely it would be easier to have the tab fixed to the chassis/diff housing rather than attached to the module itself? Cos trying to keep it lifted while pulling the module out is too tricky. Also, some sort of bumper under the motor to support it during heavy landings. Too easy to bend the motor mount when all the weight of the motor is put through the mount only. 👍🏻
Love your vids! Couple Q's regarding putting Slash wheels on... I read that the fronts and rears of Slash wheels have different offsets; which would fit best? Also, any idea whether the Proline T/A KR2's on their Renegade wheels (@) fit on the Senton 3S with a 12mm adapter? Thx!
Hey brother that was a great review. I enjoy your reviews as you always point out the good AND the bad. Long live honesty! I have a Senton too and enjoy it. No problems so far.
half of the issues for my typhon 3s I solved by stuffing foam in the gaps at the rear around the motor area - helped to keep the dirt out. Replacing the spur bearing with sealed ceramic is also a cheap option that will reduce the play and help spur longevity. Otherwise, I love the car- has the sharp handling/acceleration of a 1/10th buggy but can actually handle real-world terrain.
Nice vid, my mates got the typhon and has had the motor bearing explode and gone through 2 chassis with minimal impacts and the ball joints in the toe links have worn out in less than a wk..id have to disagree with the duability rating
I don't blame you for disagreeing with the score, if I had those issues I would have scored very differently also. Hope it gets better for your though. 😊👍
Hi Aussie great Video, i have one question for you, they all at the same price Senton 3s BLX, Typhon 3s BLX and granite 3S BLX, wich one sould i buy, this will be mi second RC car, and i whant it for runing outside in grass and mud, wich one is better =?
I have the Typhon 3s, and agree that the center drive shaft is an issue with it wearing out. That being said, I have a Rustler 4x4 VXL and the center driveshaft is also wearing out, even though it's aluminum. What it comes down to is that small rocks/pebbles get stuck in these smaller vehicles. They would have to either find a way to hide/seal the center driveshaft so it's away from rocks, find a way to give it more clearance from anything that could get a rock/pebble jammed, or provide some sort of fabric dust cover for the internals. I also have issue with the fact that the servo seemed a bit weak, but that's cheap enough to replace, and not everyone is going to care. Last thing I noticed is that it turns further right than left, and it looks like it's due to the fact that the servo saver hits the plastic housing before it should. That being said, I feel all of these are minor nitpicks given the price. It really handles better than any other vehicle I own, and I highly recommend it.
3 years later and I've cut three drive shafts due to small rocks in my first month with the car. Bought an outcast 4s and cut the driveshaft on the first run. Guess they havent fixed that issue. Definitely a weakness.
Hmm, not sure that's a "weakness" of the car, but rather lack of care or prevention from the user. If after you cut the first driveshaft due to rocks you didn't take any precautions to prevent this, then that's on you, brother. You're obviously running the truck in areas where rocks of a certain size are getting stuck in places they shouldn't be and if you don't notice that during your run, check on the car regularly or cover the chassis with a net (covers available online), then I don't think it's fair to blame the truck. I assume you're not willing or able to change locations, so maybe see if there's another way you can prevent this from happening. 🤷♂️ Or maybe look at upgrading to a Mojave with all metal drivetrain, you cut any driveshafts then. 😉 I still have this Senton and I've now changed the body and front and rear bumpers to look more Monster Truck-ish. I have dozens of runs on this car and aside from a cut tyre (hit the body) and a broken A-arm due to a crash, I'm yet to cut any driveshafts on mine after all these years. 😎
I have mega & the 3s senton with the tactic grand kids. 21t brushed & Grampa hope it 4s with granite tires stock drivetrain. Traxxas slash killer. Arrma Thank you. Mojave preordered ? Yakima, wa usa
Very nice thorough review Vas! My two biggest issues with the 3s line are the leaky shocks and the slipper clutch. I am constantly rebuilding the slipper assembly since it loosens up on me. Could be my bad landings 🤣 As for the shocks I have had two different sets leak. I have rebuilt and replaced orings, ect it doesn't matter. So I replaced them, no worries since! An 80% is a solid score, with the low price I would bump it in my mind to an 85% of course I got mine with a Tactic radio so that helps! Hopefully the STX3 will start shipping with any new 3s and 4s releases 👍
Good review as always! For this class of vehicles, I don't think there is a more durable or better value vehicle out there, so I would have given them 5/5. But I rate them on a relative scale vs. the other products on the market, not on an absolute scale.
The shocks on my outcast 4s witch are the same, are leaky x4, and my brother's typhon has 4 leaky shocks, and we do not bash so hard, so the shocks are a more common problem.
Yeah the leaking shock issue is definitely the biggest problem with these cars, on Facebook and the forums I see multiple posts per day about the shocks. The shocks when they aren't leaking are tuned perfectly out of the box though and work great.
Are the new mega line brushless ready other than the spur and plastic input gears because I have an extra new blx 185 brushless system I would like to use...on 4s is it worth the mega setup or should I just get the senton blx?
All 4 of my 3s Typhon shocks are leaking! I've heard they need better or more o-rings within the shock. Will have to rebuild them soon to find out Oh yeah and my spur rubbed on the plastic motor mount casing and the dust from it nearly blew the bearing. I've done my own fix for it
The pivot balls need to upgraded to the metal ones on the tyhpon 3s....mine is wearing out, tons of steering slop and i have the 22 pc backordered......hot item online for the the 3s...also added the TBone front bumper for a better look and added protection..... economy model but yeah needs a few more metal parts imo
Bang on as always bro. Only have the 3s senton at the mo all stock and for me it has been perfect apart from the stx2 which I sold on ebay so happy days haha wish they had a dust cover as that would help with the rocks. My bud just got the brcc and so far so good as well 🙏🙏👌
Hey boss went through the same thing had it 2 days and went through some gravel and ruined my drive shaft for myself a dust cover and problem solved New sub here thanks for the review
Had the same issue after driving in sand, got in everywhere (note: never drive in ultra fine sand!). I did eventually get it out but almost broke it in the process
As always Vas, great review and nice jumping. Best way to start of the day! :D What could be a cool project for you would be to up the Power System on one of those cars and absolutely go crazy. xD I have done that myself, I call it the Malvion (mix between the BRCC & the Typhon on 1:10 Proline Truggy Tires), it's an absolute beast. I run it on 3S with a MAX8 ESC & a TP Power 4030 motor (stock top speed, but can pop wheelies on tarmac even at half speed).
I have a problem with the 6's line. The diffs are not enclosed, there open on the bottom supposedly the chassis makes the seal, but it doesn't, dirt and sand gets in and mixes with the grease and destroys the gears. I've since when replacing the gears silicone the dif housing to the chassis works. But It a BIG FAULT !
Guys just buy a dust cover for all your RC's its cheap and easy way to keep the guts clean. And you don't really have to worry about overheating unless it's a hot day in which case don't run it on really dirty surfaces.
You mean the 4s? ARA310945 Hot Racing makes spurs too STFF257N Be mindful that there are 2 versions of the 3s spur the older style had slipper pads shaped sort of like a stop sign the newer style is a castellated shape to it so make sure you get the correct one.
I think they could do this to fix the driveshaft issue: from where the support bearing is to the motor mount, a plastic cap that somehow clips into place :) Always love to watch your reviews, although I'm not actually looking for a new car :D EDIT: corrected a typo ;)
Great review! Right on with those awful STX radios. Your channel has been a great help in my choice for rc cars. Got some T-bones Racing protection kits over here in the US for both my Senton and Mojave. They're bit on the pricey side but well worth the investment. Keep doing what you're doing and stay safe! Cheers mate!
Nice review!👍🏼. Just pre-ordered the new Senton BLX V3 3S 👌🏽 @ my local hobby shop and they've also got all the spare parts available so that real nice. Can't wait to get the E-mail that it is in!! 👍🏼🥳👍🏼🥳 Would love to hear your opinion on the new Arrma v3 line cause a lot off things are upgraded/improved. Greetings from the Netherlands 👋🏼🇱🇺
The senton is such a nice car to start with 1 10 vehicles. But the steering is a bit sloppy in comparison with a 1 8 6s kraton. But in the end, this car delivers for its price point.
I found the same with my 3s Typhon. I changed the Servo, and that seemed to help. Also, I noticed that the rear wheels were a bit wobbly. I replaced the rear driveshafts and bearings which 100% removed the slop. Between the two changes, it's the best handling vehicle I own! I have 2WD and 4WD Traxxas Rustler VXL, 3s Arrma Granite (worst handling of the bunch) and this 3s Arrma Typhon.
I changed the bearings already, but my rear end like to swing a lot. Servo is stock. But I don't mind the speed of it, I just don't like how it's not going straight if you pull the trigger on it
@@phamous301 bearings are only going to help so much. For me, the drive shafts were warn around where the bearings touch the shaft. I had to replace both, the bad bearings (which were the culprit), and the shaft which was warn due to the bad bearings.
I think it's a fair time to do a review he's had both vehicles for over a year which is a much better time frame to do a review than some of these guys who pull it out of the box run it up and down the street a few times then make a review of it. Long term reviews are usually more honest and trustworthy than a review that comes out the same day as the vehicle.
Esc 3.9v lvc issues cutting at 3.9v or higher they got send 1-2 esc in remplacement and still was the same thing they got send the blx120 at one point. Front motor bearing failing after a while in a few models. Shocks leaking comonly the sooner they leave china the better
Drive Shaft Fix: Trim down the red tab near the rear of the drive shaft. I've found this to be the culprit. I have no idea why the Arrma engineers thought this thing was a good idea. It's the only fatal flaw in this fantastic vehicle.
Hey Vas nice review! Love these arrma rc cars. Am still tossing up which one to get. Are you going to review the blx version of the granite?? I like the Mt platform.
Bought my son a 3s granite 4x4 last year. Only thing broken is the body after some hard use. Totally recommend this truck. Just make sure you get a 3s battery with at least 50c discharge rate or it will cut out on you
Must say I both agree and disagree with your review. Shocks leaks on all of my 2 cars, no matter how many re-builds and how much green slime I use, only fix is 3rd part o-rings or the shocks from hot racing. i exploded 5 motor bearings, it's a joke, I moved to chines motors which holds much better. power module opening at the bottom crushes spurs with rock and sand, I sealed it with tape and it's working great. But after fixing all those issues (which should already be fixed by Arrma IMO) - these cars are pretty amazing! I love mine. but they have major flaws.
I've had my Typhon 2months. Brilliant RC BUT and yes it's a big one haha I've snapped two chassis, two front diff cases, motor bearing explosion (as you explained in the video) and Ive had to replace drive shaft because of the issue you pointed out. Also had to replace pivot ball sets. 🤣🤣🤣 I've put so much money into her, just can't justify it anymore. Probably won't go Typhon again ,which is a shame because like I said at the start of my rant, the Typhon is a very good RC,just poorly designed and brittle.
I hate arrma senton! I have had nothing but issues since day one. I have the arrma senton blx 3s, and every time I drive it something breaks. Also I cannot run 3s, when I do it shuts down everytime. I then have to turn it off and then turn it back on to get it to run normal again. Arrma has sent me replacement motors, esc’s and a new receiver/transmitter and still the same issue.
Maybe it's something you're doing..? Perhaps you're doing something that causes the car to overheat? Or is there something causing a bind of some sort in the driveline that you may not have diagnosed and is causing the car to overheat? It doesn't make since that so many other people have no issues with their cars (myself included) and yet, you do. There has to be a reason and it can't be just the car's fault.
This is the older version, looking forward to your review of the V3 and your thoughts on the updates.
Cause of u i bought Arrma as my first car..
Mojave.... thx !!!
ETAI106 good choice. The mojave is awesome
They seemed to have made all the suggested changes you spoke of. I ordered a blue and red one to race with my sons. Your reviews are valuable. Thank you.
I got the v3 not long ago im looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it
Cutting a slot in the chassis under the spur gear made a world of difference for me. So much sand and dirt used to accumulate in the motor module but now it just falls out the slot.
Hey that's great idea. I'm going to try that
Best review ive seen i just bought the 2s for my daughter and 3s for me..the typhon 👍
Dag, it's 4am here in the states. However, not missing an Aussie RC Playground. Can't wait for the next carnage. Like the 3s lineup from Arrma.
I had the same experience! I was so super worried about plastic drive shafts but not one problem after many beatings
Power module typhon 3s. I too was getting a ton of debris underneath the module. I cut a slot in the chassis directly underneath the spur gear (which I would prefer not to do) But it helped immensely giving sand/dirt a place to escape. The size is about 3mm wide by 6 mm long

Also, slide and secure with a drop of super glue a small o ring where the shaft that connects to the back end of the drive shaft comes out of the adjustable motor plate. That also helps a lot. Got this info off a blog and it really helped. If you want more info let me know and I'll see if I can find the link.

I really like that you do maintenance. I'm not too good at working on my truck.
I defintly agree with the tires and FOAMS!!! Great reviews!
Thank you. 😊
I ran mines for 10 mins and back tire bust.
Vas, have you consideres getting just the tires and foams of the dboots sidewinder 2's from the 6s and mounting them on the 3s
Great video I am trying to do a lot of research into these but I am stuck on which one to get. if you could only get one car, which model would you get between these 2 and the granite thanks pete.

@@AussieRCPlayground yeah good choice just a bit of street bashing and maybe local park cheers .
@jdmbro10 VTEC good choice yeah I am also going with the typhon and we are getting 1 of our kids the senton lucky kid
Great review, bought a typhon mega and converted over to brushless, your right these truck's can take a beating and great value
Will you try the new version 3 Arrma typhon 3S and of senton 3S? Or the big rock or granite
Vas if you still have them try putting the zd racing pirate3 shocks on the senton, just need bushings for the top, they work very well
Thanks for the tip. Sadly, I sold my ZD Racing trucks a long time ago.
@@AussieRCPlayground well the shocks are about 30 for all 4, or some use the typhon 6s shocks
I recently posted 2 videos jumping mine but i dont got the fun jumps like you got
You should check out the senton with granite tires or badlands and take them to the big jumps you jumped the mojave on
I love you videos, especially the Carnage videos. :-)

Traxxas needs to get with it. I love my Xmaxx but the Mojave and Senton are my shortlist. Super content and quality as always!
@@slick2500 true, perfect tuning, just a shame it wan't last long tho ;)
Are the new mega line brushless ready other than the spur and plastic input gears because I have an extra new blx 185 brushless system I would like to use...on 4s is it worth the mega setup or should I just get the senton blx?
I was gonna upgrade to the new hr spiral cut metal gears also...
Which set-up will more easily overheat, 16T on 6s or 20T on 4s? What are the advantages of each of them? thanks!
Edit: I'm talking for the Typhon 6s
Where can i get a good 3s lipo for the senton?
Do they come with 17mm hex ?
The Typhon does, but the Senton comes with 14mm.
All 4 of my 3s Typhon shocks are leaking! I've heard they need better or more o-rings within the shock. Will have to rebuild them soon to find out
Oh yeah and my spur rubbed on the plastic motor mount casing and the dust from it nearly blew the bearing. I've done my own fix for it
I had pissy shocks too. I took apart cleaned and put thicker oil in. That has worked so far for me. I think was 60w oil
Back again with the NY Sweatshirt! Good stuff, follower from NY.
Thank you so much. Stay safe. 🙏🤜🤛
Oh yeah, we new Yorkers love us some aussie rc playground !! 😁👊 awesome vid as always vas. Thanks for the upload
Been watching your channel for a good bit agree on a lot you say I owen two Nero’s but also erevo 2.ho and sladge
Once again a great review thanks mate
Bang on as always bro. Only have the 3s senton at the mo all stock and for me it has been perfect apart from the stx2 which I sold on ebay so happy days haha wish they had a dust cover as that would help with the rocks. My bud just got the brcc and so far so good as well 🙏🙏👌
Hey boss went through the same thing had it 2 days and went through some gravel and ruined my drive shaft for myself a dust cover and problem solved
New sub here thanks for the review
I have cut the “pull” tab off of my Senton typhon and granite it would be impossible to get the motor module off otherwise
Had the same issue after driving in sand, got in everywhere (note: never drive in ultra fine sand!). I did eventually get it out but almost broke it in the process
As always Vas, great review and nice jumping. Best way to start of the day! :D
What could be a cool project for you would be to up the Power System on one of those cars and absolutely go crazy. xD I have done that myself, I call it the Malvion (mix between the BRCC & the Typhon on 1:10 Proline Truggy Tires), it's an absolute beast.
Sand gets in the drivetrain of the Traxxas Maxx too. It still drives like new after 40 lipos packs
Guys just buy a dust cover for all your RC's its cheap and easy way to keep the guts clean. And you don't really have to worry about overheating unless it's a hot day in which case don't run it on really dirty surfaces.
Getting the Typhon for my 6 y.o. he's going to love it!! Going to have to gear it down and slap on a Tbone bumper tho 🤪🤷♂️🤙
Get the brushed version... It's not as fast, but it's less expensive and probably better suited for a 6 year old
DadBod Damien exatly... why would someone buy a brushless for more money and then downgrade it...
Do you have a part number for the 6s metal spur gear
You mean the 4s? ARA310945
Hot Racing makes spurs too STFF257N
Be mindful that there are 2 versions of the 3s spur the older style had slipper pads shaped sort of like a stop sign the newer style is a castellated shape to it so make sure you get the correct one.
slick2500 yes the 4 s metal spur gear
slick2500 thank you very helpful
I think they could do this to fix the driveshaft issue: from where the support bearing is to the motor mount, a plastic cap that somehow clips into place :)
Always love to watch your reviews, although I'm not actually looking for a new car :D
EDIT: corrected a typo ;)
Great review. You hit all the points right on. 👍
Great review Vas and solid points good and bad👍
Great review! Right on with those awful STX radios. Your channel has been a great help in my choice for rc cars. Got some T-bones Racing protection kits over here in the US for both my Senton and Mojave. They're bit on the pricey side but well worth the investment. Keep doing what you're doing and stay safe! Cheers mate!
Great review Vas!! 👍👊Very informative and detailed, as always. What is your view on the Traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl? How does it compare to these cars?
Nice! I ripped the tires off my upgraded mega granite twice!
Nice review!👍🏼. Just pre-ordered the new Senton BLX V3 3S 👌🏽 @ my local hobby shop and they've also got all the spare parts available so that real nice. Can't wait to get the E-mail that it is in!! 👍🏼🥳👍🏼🥳
Would love to hear your opinion on the new Arrma v3 line cause a lot off things are upgraded/improved.
Greetings from the Netherlands 👋🏼🇱🇺
I got the Typhon great little car but i keep stripping the rear drive shafts , apart from that no problems, it's all stock
Try loosening the slipper by a 1/4 or 1/2 a turn 👍
Nice review. Im still stuck whether to get the typhon or senton, since the typhon and senton are basically the same, but I can only get one.
All i can say is spray it with WD-40 before taking it apart it will help eat up some of the dirt
The stock wheels are so tiny on the senton. They would look good on the rear of an old tamiya grasshopper/hornet.
What's next, a slash 2wd review? Bit late on these Vas XD
Would you rate a Arrma Senton 4x4 higher than a Traxxas Slash 4x4?
Just make sure you get a 3s battery with at least 50c discharge rate or it will cut out on you
Oy! What happened to our long standing iconic outro music? I dunno, the elevator funk just doesn't cut it 🎶😁
Must say I both agree and disagree with your review.
Also i hear gorilla taping over the hole on bottom of chasis were the servo is cures the servo issue.
So how does one do the tape mod on the power module I just had to rebuild a Senton Mega slipper clutch assembly because of this

Is it just me or do the tyres on the senton look like badlands?
From Australia and watching this.. feels so weird
Indeed leaky shocks! And part support here in Europe is a disaster. Been waiting for new front shocks 5+ months now! Other than that I love my Typhon.
Solid cars for the price.
👊🏻
I just bought one :D
