Stan loves Gij's but may not know how to express it outside of feeling taken for granted or a bit jealous. Good to see Gij's make the effort to know his friend is important to him. Sweet film .
Well, he sought him out at the spot where he thought he'd be, to tell him he knew things got out of hand and to say he was sorry. Isn't that an effort that a self-absorbed brat would not make?
@@livinglife5463 Are you sure that he is in love with Gij? Maybe the loved one is in Utrecht and Stan would love to tell the truth to his friend, who is so much interested in new affairs with girls, a real "hunter", that Stan is afraid to loose his friend. Maybe he already knows that this friendship is a dying one. Gij is not interested in learning. He wants sex and party. Stan does not even talk about these things. I have had this in my life too. During youth we were closest friends. My friend was into sex and drugs and Rock'n Roll. Girls. Fishing. The only thing we shared at the end was our passion for fishing and when I gave this up, there was no fundament for our friendship but the past, not the present and not the future. Today we have this old basic trust (German: Urvertrauen) and somehow we still love each other as friends, but it is a shadow only compared with the past. This happens. There is a hint of BL in this short film where we find that Stan is sarcastic with Gijs about his many girlfriends but who is hiding the fact that he might have a crush on Stan, who doesn't date girls and is exceedingly handsome. There is a flare-up, it subsides, followed by an apology from Gijs and they're best friends again. It leaves one wondering if this scenario could be the pilot for a 4-part 'romdram' web series of 15-minute videos, which explores how the friendship develops, from the first kiss to them becoming boyfriends.
Your comment is funny, insightful, and perhaps satirical. That would be a reasonable message, btw. Other films have been at least partly funded this way. "The Way He Looks" is an example of a successful gay film developed from a short film that, unlike Vaste Vrienden, already pointed to a happy ending.

I have no knowledge on the making of films so I can't give any input on that. :) But I would like to mention that the camera work was good for me. The way it all was filmed.
Really rather a sad film. Although they make up at the end you can see where their friendship is going. Stan's feelings for Gijs have mutated into love, but Gijs is not going to reciprocate to this new reality. Ultimately Stan will take the train to Utrecht and not come back.
Well executed but disappointing, because whatever needed to happen between them didn't happen. At the end they're just back to their unsatisfactory status quo. As a story this doesn't work. In 14 minutes we want more than a situation; we want some resolution, change, or development. Stan can't hide forever that he has a crush on Gijs. They need to deal with that, if they want to be real friends. In this respect, we get 14 minutes in which nothing important happens. I couldn't read the subtitles in very small print on a very dark background, but one didn't need to to pick up the theme of alienation between the white Dutch and the minority Indonesian population which has been going on for the last 75 years and is replicated all over Europe. And yet the bond of love and friendship on the part of the Dutch boy for his friend is very strong and intense and may lead to a physical sexual relationship that is deeply genuine for both of them not finding it elsewhere.

Sjors de Boer so ... there seems to be some debate on whether Stan had feelings for Gijs ... was it complicated? Did he have a crush? Or was he just tired of Gijs’ possessiveness?
Looks like Stan wanted more than friendship with Gijs who is a womanizer. They seem to have made up in the end after their quarrel but their differences seem to remain. As such not sure what the short is trying to tell.
People grow apart. They will fight again until its eventually over. Stan is moving on. Gijs will be the guy who stays at that high school level mentality, always trying to relive the successes of the past because his present is just not that great.
There are a couple of messages I got from what I watched. First, relationships change as you get older; you may have different interests or whatever, things just change. Second, not being honest with yourself or others can cause problems in relationships; don't keep secrets or keep things bottled inside from people who are important to you. Third, true friends will admit a mistake or accept an apology and move forward; don't be the one to hold on to anger.
Both kids have their own deeper meaning of friendships at the start. The other guy is kind exploring his own true sexuality- undiscovered yet, and tries to validate it by navigating with other opposite sex. He got his Danielle girl already, but he finds her uninteresting. Yet, when his friend left him with the packs of pretty girls in the club, he was angry, worried and run after Stan. This symbolizes that Stan is more important than the pretty girls, is it not? Many young men (unknowningly gay) are trying to discover what they really want inside their own feelings, but could not bervalize - such kind of feelings. It was that abandoning night that started to wake him up in a situation that he is more at ease with Stan's presence than those libidinal girls. Btw, only women can turn men weak in their knees. Straight men are opportunist when pretty women around. The abandoning of his friend at the club, somehow created a stage of a slowly discovering his own feelings towards Stan - He put more premiums for Stan's friendship & presence. Unluckily, the script & the director just hang in there with complete abandoned, while the story & the feelings of the two kids start building up in a higher level of friendship commitment. Dang! Stan is a smart kid -more aware kid on what he likes and feelings inside him towards his friend, but still waiting for the right moment on how & when is the right moment to express his own meaning of deeper friendship. He got already what he wanted from his friend - Stan wants his friend to focus on their current feelings. Beautifully made short film. 👏
The two should just kiss already or go their separate ways. The film raises conflict but doesn't resolve it. That does not make for a good film and is why many feel frustrated with the ending, because there was no real ending, just more of the unsatisfactory sameness.

Rajbikkl -- The last few words lead me to think there had been "more" to their friendship "back in the day". Gijs has trouble maintaining an emotional relationship with anyone but Stan. With girls it's strictly about the sex.
Hi winsboy. No, I think they just saw more of each other when they were in high school. Now Stan has gone off to university, while still not having told Gijs that he has a crush on him.
@@alwaysuseless - Hey, Kiddo! Too long between my/our comments. Anyway, I can't help feeling that Gijs feels a need to keep Stan in his life. Gijs obviously cares more for his friend than all the girls he hits on, whether or not he's ready to face that fact remains to be seen. At this point at least one more episode is needed for them both to be honest with themselves and each other. Leaving things as they are isn't healthy for anyone. Let's hope Sjors de Boer hasn't moved on to bigger and better things and will cleanup the mess he left us to deal with. Hope all is well with you, my friend!
@winsboy It's too bad the instructor in Sjors de Boer's directing class didn't specify upfront that the students' films had to tell a story, not just present a situation.

How pointless was that! A narcissistic mate and a complete carpet. Stan was a pushover. He even said it himself. So then Stan just gets pulled back (commonly known as 'hoovering' ) to be abused again. Control is not friendship, its just control.
Really? Maybe because the two characters are weak? Like people are very often? There must not be a happy or a tragic end. The end of a film can be like that too, frustrating maybe.

@winsboy It's too bad the instructor in Sjors de Boer's directing class didn't specify upfront that the students' films had to tell a story, not just present a situation.
es de vital importancia captar lo antes posible a la persona manipuladora, si entra en tu vida puede hacerte desgraciado si no le paras los pies de inmediato.
This is very good! :)
Muito bom! òtimo roteiro, direção e interpretações. Dizer muito sem precisar falar muito. As entrelihas estão cheias de significado. Amei!
What's the song that plays at the club? Also, I feel that Stan is still doubting the friendship he has with Gijs.
The brown guy is the Alpha, yet powerless...
How is he alpha?
❤
Rohan Sukhraj lekker bezig man! Ziet er goed uit ❤💪🏼
were you grandparents Guyanese?
Rohan, you are a good actor. You conveyed a lot without saying too much. I would like to see you in a more developed role. Good luck.
Indian ?
Hi boy 😍
It’s a Bromance,but Stan is a little more into it.Gigi doesn’t have a clue.
what´s the point of this short ...?
I think Stan is jealous
P
That indian guy speaks such a good Dutch
Because he looks indian he’s supposed to speak bad Dutch? He’s Dutch born...
I may be stupid but I don't get the moral of the story😓
Hebt u en 2nd part?
Sjors de boer, onthoud de naam
Friendship is love without sex and lasts the space of a morning . Sex , like beton , includes love and even friendship . According my gay experience.
Ooooh ik zee het wel, hij is jaloors. Ik dacht dat het "Bros before hoes" was. Maar nee "f*ck de game" lol
Well done
Super gaaf Sjors!
Subtitles don’t show up
The remotes not even on -.-
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
the bad thing is that, the guy with the black hair, never showed his real feelings he had on his best friend.
Gaat he echt naar en feestje of en wedding
Leuk Sjors!!
I'm afraid it's only an argument.
Heel gaaf!
Geweldig!
Mooie film.
Dude there aren't English subtitles click bait!!!!!!
You have to turn them on in the Video Player!
@@sejecem OK thanks!!
Vette short film goed gemaakt, stein85 out✌
is this real dutch or is it slang
It’s real. There’s slang though... just like there would be with ppl in any language.
8:07 that voice crack lmao
How pointless was that! A narcissistic mate and a complete carpet. Stan was a pushover. He even said it himself. So then Stan just gets pulled back (commonly known as 'hoovering' ) to be abused again. Control is not friendship, its just control.
😘
🇪🇸 ❤ ESTA TÍA lo que NO TIENE ES VERGUENZA 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
Strange film! Like the life; nothing, apparently, happens!
Remind me again, WHY this is under gay related videos?
Unfortunately, we live in a time when any closeness between men is considered gay. Friendship has been impoverished in our time.
sadly, it's true ...
Heel vet maat!
The intro is kak funny
and what is point?..
The ending was weak
Really? Maybe because the two characters are weak? Like people are very often? There must not be a happy or a tragic end. The end of a film can be like that too, frustrating maybe.
goede muziek ook
Well that was boring
WHAT A STUPID, MEANINGLESS ENDING... WASTE OF TIME...
Eerst liken dan kijken xd
Boring
Pointless!
