    Oh wow. Incredible. Every gay person whatever their age will immediately relate to this story. I'm 56yo and watching this I was immediately back in school in the 80's. Maybe not every detail is the same for everyone's life story, but we've all been there in one way or another. From the bullying to having feelings for a friend and being terrified they'll (or anyone else!) catch on or worse not want to know you anymore. While things are not perfect anywhere, The Netherlands have always been decades ahead of most of the world when it comes to LGBTQIA+ rights and equality. Here in Australia things are not too bad now. Our population voted overwhelmingly for marriage equality back in 2017, and things are certainly much better than when I was the age of the boys in this movie back in the 80's. We have very strong laws protecting the rights of LGBTQIA+ singles, couples, and very strong anti-vilification and anti-discrimination laws as I'm sure The Netherlands has too. The world is better than it was for people like us but still has a way to go. I hope you make many more movies like this and maybe even a sequel. Your movies and shows like "Heartstopper" etc...I wish they were around when I was a teen. Congratulations to the actors, crew, producers, and all involved in the production of this beautiful short movie. Bravo! 10/10 from me! - Craig - Australia 🥰

      Thank you so much for the good review. I really love so many people can relate, but it's a twisted feeling cause it means that so many people have been trough all these bad things, and all the bullying, wich is terrible.
      But that's why i made this movie, some people might say it looks old because it seems not from this time. But that's my whole point. That even when things seem better now there are still such bullies out there and people still feel bad for who they are.
      Like you said, things definitely are better now in many parts of the world but it's still not fully where it's supposed to be. In my country (Belgium) where same sex marriage was legalised in 2003, we still have People who suffer from bullying cause of who they love or want to be. It may be pretty much better here then other places but to me it's even more important to adress the topic where it seems much better. Cause in places where ist is better people sometimes forget it's still not 100% good. And they need to be aware of that. And i'm glad it gets the message out there.
      So very grateful for your loving support, and i'm also very happy my movie is not age bound. And everyone enjoyed it. Cause the more people i can reach the better.
      I will definitely try to make more stuff like this. Cause as a gay myself i see it as my mission to help our community to show people who have it rough they are not alone. Many people went through these things and we can help eachother with it. So i'm definitely continuing this.
      I hope i get the chance to get enough money to make more movies on my own. So you guys don't have to wait to long but yeah it's not a fast process sadly 🙃 but imma try my best
      Greetings from Belgium 🙃

    A very moving gay short film !
    The young actors were very good
    The acting very realistic & touching
    One could feel the depth of the love that Beau and Liam have for each other
    Many Congratulations to the director, Yarne Van Elsen
    For the excellent story, cinematography, music and direction
    One important though sad message from the film is that even in the western world, where a lot of progress has been made on LGBTQ equality, the scourge of homophobia or to put it more accurately, gay hate, still exists
    I wonder why is it so ?
    What is it about the psyche of the average young straight male, that makes it so difficult for them to accept their gay classmates as equal human beings
    Is that young, testosterone fuelled psyche so pumped-up about that sense of hyper-masculinity that the only way it can relate to gays is in the form of violent bullying & bashing, so often leading gay adolescents to end their lives
    Or is that the kind of masculinity that society, culture and family is inculcating in straight males ?
    These serious questions don't seem to have straightforward answers but they surely overshadow and always deeply scar the lives of young gay men
    One last comment is that, while the ending was not clear about whether Liam loved Beau platonically or romantically, the love still felt very deep and genuine. The title of the short film, Silent Secrets, though beautiful also doesn't help answer the doubt about Liams's feelings
    A comment from Yarne comment could help clarify....
    Kudos again on an excellent gay short film, which though sad, still manages to achieve a hope-filled ending....

    I wished these kinds of videos were around when I was a child and even later in my teenage years. The physical bullying, discrimination and the vile hatred for anyone that was LGBTQ was a living nightmare for someone like me. For the life of me, I still cannot figure out why anyone that doesn't like the way I love or the way I live, can't just mind their own damn business and leave me alone. I never ever intentionally go out of my way to interfere in anyone's life or beliefs. I mind my business and go on with my life. But there are others that will intentionally make it their business to vocally express their absolute disgust with me and how I live my life. When my husband and I basically stay at home most of the time, in large part due to our health and our age. We're both very quiet men that love our dog and our garden, but most of all we love our grandchildren. We just want to be left alone.

    • @full-frameyarne
      @full-frameyarne  21 день назад +1

      So sorry to hear that 🥺 if i could time travel i'd go back and make a movie like this back in time in hopes people would stop bothering us. Like you're saying i also never understood why they love spending their time hating on our lives. We don't even matter to them we don't even bother them, they just want to hate on something for literally no reason. It's actually sad of them that they have nothing better to do than this. Like what is so wrong with two men, two women living their family dream. It's probably better then most stereotypical man-woman families so yeah i don't get it. Mainly cause we live in a time where we have so much knowledge that I don't understand how you can just ignore some of the important knowledge and just hate. Like are they truly happy? If you're hating us all the time? 🤷
      Hope you live a happy life right now with your husband. Enjoy the happy moments, whith them and your dog. 🙃 Sending my love from Belgium 🙃

      @@fotoralf haha offcource, we in Flanders have so many dialects, and they all sound different. At our coast, that's what we call West-Flanders so there you have a West-Flamish accend wich is the most different to all other Flemish, they even have different words. Then the rest of Flanders is more sounding the same but you can hear a difference. Life for instance, around Antwerp (city) they speak a verry Pronounced dialect, in the city centre mainly the older people also speak sometimes with different dialect words wich also makes it less understandable. But then Province of Antwerp you hear it's all linked to what they speak in the city centre but it's more neutralised and less difficult to understand. Then you also have East-Flanders wich also is closer to the Antwerp dialect but witch some differences. And then you also have Limburg, there they speak much less harsh, they talk Quieter, and use more Intonation.
      And then you also have Flemish Brabant, that's in my opinion the most neutral Flemish, except if you also go to a core dialect offcource cause if the older generations speak the original dialects they alle (doesn't matter where in Flanders) have their own words but yeah most people speak a softer version of their dialects these days.
      So yeah depending on wher in Belgium you go you will either hear a variation of Flemish, or french. And in Brussels you will hear a mixture of everything 🙃.
      I know we have a complex country 😂
      The accent the actors speak is more Eastern Flanders based but they speak verry neutral 🙃

    There's something a bit unrealistic here. I've been teaching in a high school for over 30 years and even many years ago there was rarely any gay bashing or anyting similar. There have been incidents of suicide based on a pupil's inabilty to accept what he is but it was never the fault of the school and its pupils, more of society as a whole. 10 years ago the head boy was an out gay guy, who always wore makeup. And teachers and pupils all loved him. He is now a drama teacher at the same school.

    • @full-frameyarne
      @full-frameyarne  Месяц назад +4

      @@telemachus53 well i think you miss the point. I never said it would be the schools fault for not seeing anything. Did i ever accused a school? I didn't even include teachers in this.
      My point is, sometimes such things go un noticed, idk where you live but it's still a thing to be bullied because of being gay. It's not just because it didn't happen at your school that it doesn't happen at other places. Plus bullying often makes a person more closed and less willingly to share their emotions. Wich causes all the trouble to be on top of each other. And sometimes in certain cases it ends not well. Agian it's not because at one school it doesn't happen that nowhere else it also doesn't happen.
      Plus this is called Fiction, for being a scenario and made-up by people. Offcource it's not real otherwise it would have been a documentary. But with this movie i want to show people that even when you think gay-bashing is gone it's still out there. There are still people (all over the world) getting bullied for just trying to be themselves and to be happy. So yeah that's exactly why i want to make this to show every one.
      I know it's not the same everywhere, and I certainly don't blame schools or teachers for not seeing it or something. This is always the bullies fault. And maby the scenario is a little bit a extreme case yes but that is to show how bad it can be. In hope that people would be more open, and prevent this.
      I hope you understand what my meaning was 🙃

    • @telemachus53

      @@full-frameyarne I appreciate your response. I understand and accept what you're saying. You're right in saying there will always be bullies and always somewhere there will be gay bashing. Also as a teacher I don't know the "subtext" of my own pupils, especially wheh they reach the age of adolescense. On the other hand if a gay boy becomes an object of admiration and achieves an inmportant position in school, bullying becomes very "passe" and considered very archaic.

I never dressed or acted feminine and homophobic slurs were always thrown at me. There was one kid who got it so bad that he committed suicide. I’m glad they make videos like this to show how it really is for us unlike heart-stopper which is unrealistic. Many place around the world have it worse especially in Eastern Europe and the middles East

    • @telemachus53
      @telemachus53 Месяц назад

      @@BSULLY2024 I think a lot has to do with the school and their teachers and their own attitudes. It could be that a school for gifted children, where I be taught, precludes the bullying you talked about. Any pupil who feels he wants to be trans or gay is immediately supported by the school and their staff. There is no compulsion of any kind neither from his fellow pupils or from the staff to hide his orientation. I have no doubt that your experiences as a pupil were horrific and this kind of bullying must be outlawed, but in a school where being gay is not a matter for insecure, ignorant bullies to mock you rarely get this kind of behaviour. In a school where sexual identity is not hdden but proudly shown there is rarely a place for bullying.
