You recently asked your community if your videos should remain voiceless or if you should start talking more in your videos. I'm *very* glad you're doing voiceover. The laughs are well worth it. Reminds me a lot of This Old Tony, and if you're like me you'll know how big a compliment this is.
Ok thanks. I was starting to regret posting that poll haha, because I was thinking I wanted to remain voiceless, because I don't really like the sound of my voice, and it's an extra process recording all the narration. And something extra to be anxious about. I think I will persevere with it though 😳 Never heard of This Old Tony, will search for it. Edit: oh wow, his content is great, that is a compliment! ☺️
I still like some videos to be voiceless, just now and then it's more relaxing to have no voice. But you cant really ignore the votes of your Followers!
@@RestoreTechnique Yeah I can say the same about mine, but your's is much less robotic than mine. Just do what you prefer, you'll always have someone who likes it and someone who doesn't. Impossible to please both at all times :)
I cannot believe your channel is only 90k Subs with this Video Quality, I immediately subscribed, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Amazing work 👌
It'd be interesting to add an aux port to the headphone end since there's extra space. And because the hyper x has this really annoying habit of internal torsion in the braided headphone cable. Making kinks all over the place. Being able to swap it with a higher quality cable would be nice. And would allow for color customization.
as far as i know the metal plates arent glued in place, there are 4 metal tabs that are folded on the inside of the earcup that hold them in place. but i think masking was the better choice as the tabs may have snapped when trying to unbend them. i really likr the look of the finished product, makes them stand out from an ordinary pair :)
I bent back the 4 metal tabs as seen at 5:38 if you look closely. But there was still something holding it in place, I assumed it was glued in as well. Yes I'm really happy with how they turned out.
I just purchased myself a pair of hyperx headphones and all youtube is showing me are videos of them allthogh this video was quite interesting and somehow relaxing to watch

Thanks for this video. I naively thought I could replace the headband of hyperx could II wireless easily but I see from your video it's a very bad idea for a beginner.
when cleaning headphones like these, for complex surfaces I would use a toothbrush ontop of thin microfiber cloth soaked in alcohol, it helps reach small crevices I couldnt otherwise...
I would love to do something like this. I have a pair of Cloud II wireless headphones but they only offer them in red color which really sticks out like a sore thumb with the rest of my setup. Amazing job
I got a set of Corsair’s Virtuoso XT gaming headset but had to get the ugly T-Pain blue + silver edition cause it would have been like $100 more at the time for the normal black one. Been wanting to change it all to black for ages.
Ahh cool. None of the blue colour is paintable right, it's all the faux leather padding that's blue. I assume you can get replacements just like I did for mine.
I bought a replacement headband for my office pair of cloud 2s ant took it to work thinking I will just replace it in a couple of minutes. Quickly found out that the wire between the two drivers can only be removed by soldering. I've never done it before and not sure if I should give it a try.
HyperX Cloud Core looks very durable, my Razer Kraken after 4-5 years broken piece by piece, almost everything is plastic and he can't handle stress of daily use
Thanks a lot 😀 Yeah I don't allow embedding on websites, cause I feel like people won't come to my channel and watch it. You can always link the video.
I'm thinking a lot of work goes into these. The editing, the voicing, the syncing in ads and different sequences. Then he's got to spend time looking after his tools, buying glues, planning future videos, monitoring new releases etc. And some videos might not work out, which is time wasted.
Are you sure you wired it up correctly? Copy my wiring example. However, I've heard that soldering on the back of speakers can be troublesome, and you're not supposed to leave the soldering iron on for very long as you can damage the membrane. If your wiring is correct, maybe you damaged the speaker 🤔
nice work btw. these are the hyperX cloud 2, mine look like yours too: 0:13 but 20$ for new leather parts for headphones that only cost about 40-60$ is not the best cost/hour ratio 🤔So should I buy new or restore them (they are about 6 years old)?
Thanks! These Cloud Core headphones were around AUD$80-90, and the new leather parts cost AUD$15. It's not a great money saving project though. Can't bear to throw them out when they work perfectly.
Gotta have some skill to do this, I wouldn't be able to... anyways, i got a HyperX Cloud Blue couple months ago, do you know if a regular cleaning avoid this type of thing from happening?
No, a regular cleaning won't help. I haven't heard of any way of slowing the rubber coating from degrading. Maybe some oil, like you do with car tyres? I don't know sorry.
Great work. Getting ready to fix up my unit that failed after many years of service due to work hardened cross over wire to the right side breaking. Paint job looks mint mate. I had the same issues with that rubber feel coating stuff, cleaned mine off with some alcohol spray to wipe it all off. I had issues with those plastic bits near the adjusters breaking off. Hopefully the newer ones are made with better plastic. Had a good laugh thru the video at times which makes this sort of video much easier to watch. How is the paint holding up over time?
Cheers dude. The paint is holding up great, except for the little brackets on the sides of each ear cup. I was too thin with the red clear coat, and the corners of them have had the paint wear off due to placing the headphones down on the desk.
My iron is not as fancy (30W one) as that Hakko, so I question, what temperature were you using? I believe I burned the small pcb or driver (or both) (also not used to soldering but gave it a try). The + - poles have no continuity now on the right speaker, on the left it's ok with ~58ohms, and with the headset plugged in it beeps with a short on the multimeter when both poles are probed on the right speaker. So I've since ordered replacement drivers and will try fixing this, but wondered what temperature you had on the soldering iron. Quite possibly I had the iron there for too long only and will be able to repair with the *new* drivers.
Thanks Dimitris! For the soldering, I have a list of tools I use in the description. But you don't need an expensive soldering iron, a cheaper one can be fine too for hobby work. Flux is very helpful when soldering. But it's only thin wires so it's a pretty good beginners soldering job.
@@RestoreTechnique Many thanks for the response! Really appreciate it! I have no experience but as you said, seems like a great start for beginners. It would be a shame not to restore my old but trusty HyperX Cloud II headset with your handy guide!
meu estava colando tbm, só limpar com uma escova de dente e álcool isopropílico, você remove o emborrachado, só recomendo retirar as earcups, só desparafusar a haste, assim fica mais fácil de limpar
Does living in the heat of Australia have anything to do with your phones looking like they're melting away? I've never actually seen that happen before.
I don't know, I assumed it happens everywhere, it's just the nature of that rubber coating. It deteriorates and goes all sticky after a few years. It probably is quicker in warmer climates though.
If you live in a country with very high temperatures all year round i would say it does wear the cups a bit more since u will sweat more into the headset because of high room temperatures.
I also repainted mine. I was specifically looking for paint for plastic. But after repainting, all the painted plastic completely turned into slime, unfortunately.
Looks good but i wouldnt go with that type of sheen, its too glossy and showed all the defects in the paint job. You also did quite a lot of cleaning that could have just been done by cutting some alchohal with something like mineral spirit and let it eat away all that nasty gunk on the outside of the plastic. Also the amount of sanding and prep was way overboard unless you just wanted the meticulous shit to be in the video. So many ways to do things and sometimes they dont seem viable or even sometimes are not thought of. Also, i hate the person who invented the way leather ear cups are held onto headsets. their has to be a superior method than that little plastic extra you gotta stretch into place and fidgit with it until its on lol
Fair enough, thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty meticulous in general, and often spend too much time on tedious stuff, to try and get the best result.
