Thank you for this pattern, seems easy and quick. Will be making this for a new father to be, loves hand made blankets, to cuddle with his first baby boy. So excited to start on this blanket.
Thank you for sharing. I finally made this blanket with bernat yarn and used fuchsia and vintage white yarn. Loved the blanket. I really enjoy how you explain the patterns and make it so easy for us to follow. THANK YOU!!🤗🤗🤗
I am loving this pattern so much and I am doing it with the blanket yarn and then have started another with the Hometown USA yarn as well and they both are looking really great....
Thank You... i was hoping that Mikey would do a video for the Gingham and I realize now that it is the Buffalo.. Great job with this demonstration:)) GB
This is definitely a project I want to try. You are such a good teacher. I learn easier by seeing it done verse reading it. You have helped me numerous times. Thank you so much for doing these videos.
WHAT a beautiful pattern thank you so much for showing me how to do this pattern I love it and this pattern is great for my godson's baby brother for Christmas. Just brilliant
Hi Mike I have a question for you I am crocheting a V stitch Afghan I would like to put a lines of rainbow yarn going through would I have to do like these overlays or can I just chain through it because I’m over half way please help
I am doing this blanket now, doing the overlay. I love this blanket, thank you. But I dont like the way my ends are looking after sewing the ends in. Can u do sc along the top and bottom to even it out? Help. Thanks for all the wonderful tutorials.
Hmmm. Someone in my life is a Florida Gators fan. This could very well make a nice Christmas gift for him - a gingham blue/orange stadium blanket. I'm assuming this split stitch works with any weight of yarn, worsted and chunky and everything in between?
I was wondering being you had orange on bottem and top couldn't you just slip stitch to the next row when your making the lines? Less to weave in at the end.
Candi Miller I didn’t like the way it looked to do the slip stitch to the next row... it was a good idea but it looked too bulky. I also think the stitch would not be correct going the other way but I’m not sure... I ripped it ... I didn’t get that far I just didn’t like the way it looked. Possibly with thinner yarn it might work but I didn’t like it with the blanket yarn. Judy
Hi Mikey. Thanks for this tutorial and pattern. I had not seen this before. My husband is tired of my girly afghans and wants a man afghan. This will fit the bit perfectly. Would you mind sharing where you got that crochet hook? I will be needing to pick one up for this. Thank you so much for all your tutorials!
I bought an N 10.0 MM hook at Joann’s But my grandmother told me she bought her hook at Walmart and it looks just like Mikey’s. It comes in a 3 pack with a J and K hook too I think!
I did a bunch of test and have found out that to make each “square” is 7 stitches! So I crocheted a chain of 9 total, half doubled crochet in the third chain, and did the chain 1, half double crochet all the way and it works out! I used some scrap red heart super saver yarn using a size 6.0MM hook. I followed Mikey the same in doing 6 rows up and then change colors. It worked out great for me! EDIT: So I tried another sample of doing more squares and it kept having an extra row. And it’s because it’s 7 stitches that make ONE box. But the boxes share one side. So really to adjust for as many squares as you’d want it’d be 6 chains + 3. You still chain in the 3rd stitch from the hook, and do everything the same! This pattern threw me for a loop! But doing 6 chains +3 will let you customize the size completely. Personally I like to “trap” my colors. I like to end with the same colors on both sides. So I did do 18 plus the 3 to have the colors more even! So like the first color blocks would be: “STRIPS” “SOLID” “STRIPS” Or vise versa! HOPE THAT HELPS!
Kristi Howell - it can be made with any size of yarn. Don't forget to go up two sizes in the crochet hook so that you have an easier time of inserting the hook between the "legs" of the split half double crochet from the previous row.
Liberty Younger - it can be made with any size of yarn. Don't forget to go up two sizes in the crochet hook so that you have an easier time of inserting the hook between the "legs" of the split half double crochet from the previous row.
The other video he was talking about that is just for the split half double crochet uses the bernat maker home decor yarn and a 10.0 MM hook so I assume you could. I’d do a sample swatch and see if you liked how it works out and adjust hook size if you like!

To change the size of this blanket, the stitch multiple is 12 chs + 9.
Confirmed.

Excellent. It will make for an excellent gift.

Thank you for this. I have had a gingham pattern that I wanted to try but it was so confusing! You have made it sooo...easy!! Thank you!!!
NaturalKB32533 where did you get the pattern from?
montoya holden hi, I googled the pattern name and it took me to the Michael's website where I could print it. The link didn't work for me.

Wow! That is clever. Hopefully I will be successful when I give it a shot.

Debbie Howell MM. ,
If you want to make the blanket wider? I’m trying to figure out the multiples for the sections. Thank you

Yes that's right.
Genius

It would leave the gaps doing it that way. Stitching from the bottom closes all the gaps.

I really like the look of this hook! I'll have to check my wal mart to see if there is one like it here. All I usually see are the dull grey ones :)
Thank you!

Can I do this in king size
What size bed would this fit?
If I want to make a smaller blanket, like for a baby, how many chains to begin? Like multiples of 5 +2 or what?
I did a bunch of test and have found out that to make each “square” is 7 stitches!

DemonlyAngelic Thank you so much for all your help!!!
If i used redheart yarn would it still have the same effect?
Kristi Howell - it can be made with any size of yarn. Don't forget to go up two sizes in the crochet hook so that you have an easier time of inserting the hook between the "legs" of the split half double crochet from the previous row.
Sorry but is this the same video for the plaid blanket
Yes as the pattern is identical.
😊😊🙂🙂
Can this be done with regular 4 weight yarn?
Liberty Younger - it can be made with any size of yarn. Don't forget to go up two sizes in the crochet hook so that you have an easier time of inserting the hook between the "legs" of the split half double crochet from the previous row.
Can we use Bernat Home Decor yarn to make this blanket?
The other video he was talking about that is just for the split half double crochet uses the bernat maker home decor yarn and a 10.0 MM hook so I assume you could. I’d do a sample swatch and see if you liked how it works out and adjust hook size if you like!
Thanks for the info.
So is this buffalo plaid or gingham? There are 2 tutorials with the same name?
They just uploaded it again under a different name.
DemonlyAngelic but why?
It seems like you would use the last stuck because it looks slanted
That looks like it's going to take a tremendous amount of yarn.
It's a really thick blanket. It's designed to be really warm.
It didn't actually. I blended more colors when I made mine.
