Looking forward to Arma 4. I'm one of those niche groups who just enjoy playing aroubd in Eden editior, making up scenarios and just watching the ai fight each other, but the performance suffers so much when you add too much stuff and the ai even stops functioning properly. Hopefully this new engine can handle large loads and Ai better like you said.
1:57 Substances are actually still in the game. If you hold control and use your scroll wheel, instead of adjusting your walking speed, you incrementally change your stance.
Thank god they didn't remove that. One of my favourite aspects of Arma, and greatly underused by other players much to my annoyance, but hey, not everyone wants to live longer or shoot better. Also *Sub-stances :p I don't think "substances" are in the game...
Amazing breakdown video. This game makes me extremely happy for the future of Arma especially with prioritizing stability and performance. I can only imagine what fully modded servers are going to look like a year form now.
I'm just totally pumped for the new physics overhaul. for years we've put up with "Arma moments" and gone out of our way to change tactics and gameplay preference in order to maintain immersion and reduce their frequency.
That alone is probably the single biggest improvement, followed closely by performance. The fact that the textures, shading, and lighting are so improved *and it still runs better than 3* is... well I guess not that surprising. We all knew that.
I haven't seen any vehicles fly into the sky because they hit a peble in reforger yet I have seen a few trucks fly high in the sky like stealth bombers, and cars flipping a little too easy Overall the physics are quite nice, even doors function properly now it's insane!
The aerial movement really shows how well optimized things are so far. Personally never played any ARMA games but I can tell the developers have come a long way and learned from the past.
All the ANIMATIONS and SHOOTING are so much smoother now. The lights, effects, PIP scopes, view distance, visuals, vehicle interiors with added animations... so gooood. Just imagine what Arma 4 would look like.
ArmA 3 was also released in Early Access with minimal amount of content initially and look at it now, Reforger seems to follow its steps. So dont worry guys, we will get much more eventually
That is true. Also DayZ ist a great game today. As Drew points out, it took some time to get to this state. But think about what developing status DayZ was in, when it launched vs Arma Reforger. I think Reforger is way ahead at this point and may develop faster than DayZ did.

I love how this is Cold War setting - return to roots of Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crysis. So much more atmospheric than yet another generic desert, modern, war on terror vibes. This looks awesome!
@@generikusername I wasn't referring to the Arma serie, but to the FPS genre overall. But futuristic Arma3 wasn't atmospheric as well, general emphasis on realism and fictional made up equipment wasn't a good synergy.
the theme of wester war in desert is so overused, why is there no game with the war in the arctic with insane sniper rifles, subs, thermal goggles, oil rigs, oil pipes, survival elements, snow mobiles with mounted MGs, cool snow building mechanics, concealment, satellite image recon, electronic warfare, etc.
It looks and plays so nice. I love all those animations. Instead of popping in into vehicle and telepatic vehicle operation in other games, here we can see animations for entering/exiting vehicles and animation for ignition, gear change ETC. For me this adds a TON to immersion! I own ARMA 3, played it for some hours but I was not impressed to stay and play lots of hours there. I see here more immersion. If ARMA 4 will have such immersion and realism then I am sold xD
For me, I'll be getting it more for nostalgia. I loved the old Operation Flashpoint, as buggy and limited as it was. However, really when compared to what was out at the time there was no completion. I for one am really looking forward to seeing what they do with reforger.

Dude how on gods green earth lol I mean who else remembers going to the arcade with mates and playing some games and now look at it Jesus it looks so real That’s incredible
The way I see it, the arma devs made this game because it’s going to help fund and plan the development of the biggest game they’ve ever created. The asking price is a little steep for the content, but if you look at it like a Kickstarter for a much larger game with direct access to the engine they are developing on I think the value is going to be great once the modding community floods this game with new content.
Since it's likely any mod made for Refroger will work on Arma 4 (same engine), I'm wondering if we'll see a split community when Arma 4 comes out. Will Arma 4 bring enough benefits over Reforger (not today's reforger, but Reforger after a year of updates) to make Arma 4 worth the purchase?

Dude, I'm so excited for this and for Arma 4, as a long term Arma player this just blows my mind and gives me a ton of hope for what could be on the horizion.
Definitely seems on the surface to be a weird in-between of classic ArmA and more focused titles like Tarkov or Squad, but I'm absolutely stoked to see the context interactions and built-in comms possibilities. For a sorta "spinoff" half-game, I think that what this game delivers is about what I would expect. If this was marketed as the next big ArmA I would be a bit hestitant, but for what it's trying to accomplish it seems like a solid package and I can't wait to get lost in it over the next while. Looking forward to any operations you might be doing in reforger, would love to see some extended PVE gameplay footage.
I agree and this is pretty much what I expected with reforger. I’m sure as time goes on they will add a good amount of new assets and features to this game and it will end up being a solid game that competes with squad and sandstorm. My only worry though is that arma 4 ends up being like this and dayz and that we see a total departure from the milsim sandbox games that previous titles have delivered on. I also hope that arma 4 is pc only.
If they wanted Reforger to be the next big title in the series im pretty sure we would've seen a much bigger PR/advertising campaign before it released. the most I knew about this project were some so/so leaks and a few screenshots from bohemia. I had absolutely zero idea that this would drop today.
I'm a huge Arma fan and i think Reforger is the first step in the right direction. I'm sure that it can be formed into a pretty cool piece in the Arma collection and that there's a looooot potential to it.
So crazy to see Dslyecxi playing with you in that one clip. I’ve watched his videos for years. I heard his voice and immediately knew. I found your channel in suggested videos from watching him.

This actually looks really good. I was watching a live stream from another content creator and people were so negative. As a non Arma player I genuinely thought the game was bad, but it isn't, and I see people here in the comments who play Arma and they're positive about it
Maybe they were expecting an actual Arma 4 with complete resources like helis, tanks, more infantry/special forces/ other units. But they should listen to what the dev in Bohemia said, "It's not Arma 4, not yet. It's reforger."
@@mig-25foxbat64 Wrong. They expected more of a realistic sim like experience. Ngl the gameplay and movement looks more like pubg Mobile. Nothing wrong with that since it can be more appealing to a more casual player base but it isn't what Arma is supposed to look like.
It's cool to see the new tech, do kinda wish we got more than a tech demo, but knowing it's essentially a preview for arma 4 makes me a little more excited to see what we get.
Its a preview/Work training/ Modding community headstart for Arma 4, by the time it comes around the Nodding community which makes Arma what it is will be more than ready to get going
I love the way this looks but from what i saw, at least right now, there is a death animation instead of a Rag-doll, while this is a really small detail that i can certainly play through, i really loved the ways Arma 3 had rag-doll physics for enemies or players that were hit, now that being said, Arma 3s rag-doll certain had issues like the "Flinch" that AI or players would do whenever hit, but compiled with community mods, it was almost flawless except the few instances of legs being bent completely behind or inside the model. I really hope that they make this comeback, and if not then i suppose we can always depend on the amazing mod community for Arma.
I'm guessing they'll add most if not all the features in Arma 3 back for 4. The Ragdolls when you shot someone standing still and they just folded in half were kinda jank but any other situation I agree they were neat
@@CJmontage101If you noticed, i actually agree that vanilla A3 ragdolls were awful, i clearly state that modded ragdoll physics that built off the base game and got rid of most of the jank are what made them so good in the end. I think they should add it to Reforger too in an original way.
I haven't played any games like this since Operation Flashpoint and Battlefield 2. I miss it, but at my age and watching your vids, my eyes are just nowhere near good enough. Its awesome to see people playing these realistic shooters though and yours are the best!

I'm very excited to see them try from the ground up and build something new! I'm hoping they allow steam workshop still and don't switch it like insurgency sandstorm did. If BI just gives us the tools and makes a great engine and maps, the player base will take care of them for a very long long time
On top of it all the devtools are much nicer. The script editor included is surprisingly good and is something I’d imagine is going to speed up a lot of workflows
I loved operation flashpoint dragon rising, it had quite good graphics, AI, lighting, great interface for commanding, but lacked mod support, dev support, more deeper mission builder, this is going to be my dream operation flashpoint witch i was hoping to see as final product + more.
OFP DR was pretty good. AI was cheap at sometimes, but they did have pretty good user made scenarios. Did you ever play one of the zombie mods or surviving endless waves of enemies? OFP DR is not as good as OFP CWC, but it was darn good
Right now considering the price tag, it is still a good Squad opponent. If you take into account the better mod support, the better vehicle physics (my POV) and graphics. With a little bit of content, it could be a better Squad.

I hope sniping and MG gunning becomes a team effort, where the loader/spotter observes and directs the fire. I also hope wind affects bullets, so reading the wind speed and direction are needed for long distance first shot hits. I also hope player collisions with walls and foliage affects the players stance, speed and (contact+small pain)sound. I hope things have repairable state of destruction, like blown of tires, broken tracks that can be repaired. I hope for the player dismemberment when hit with large calibers or explosives. I hope for a medical system that does not have a menu. Something like a growing blood stain you can hover your mouse over and click on to bandage to stop the bleeding. I hope hit players and soldiers fall over with a scream, adding more drama. in all I think BI has done a great job and are on the right track!
Learn from the experience with game Squad and others as such. Players are just NOT getting what they pay for, and should not be happy with what they are getting. Players are getting unfinished games that on Day 1 already feel 4-6 years old (outdated), with ever present promises of (slow and little) improvements over the coming years. Which will still make the game feel and look obsolete. You are being thought to be satisfied with partial games. 5 edits of the same vehicle with minor changes and you are supposed to say "Wow"? Precisely the same scenario as with the game Squad.
@@Unknown_Genius We often forget that when Arma 3 came out, it was REALLY good for the time. The had advanced lighting, great graphics and amazing gameplay. But the problem is people are comparing a 9 year old game to modern games and saying "Arma is bad". It's not bad, it was a industry leader at the time (if you included the scale of it). No other game at the time could match Arma 3. Today, however, there's much better looking games. Reforge is just the start taste of Arma 4 which will likely lead the industry again.
@@Unknown_Genius The millions of views and thousands of positive comments on videos showing off Arma 3 for the first time beg to differ. People were very excited for the game and very impressed with the graphics. You can go look for yourself at the comments and replies on those videos and various articles from 9 years ago when Arma 3 came out. In fact you are kind of proving my point in a way, you are kind of looking at it from today's standards, not comparing to 9 years ago standards.
@@Unknown_Genius You seem to be arguing against a point I didn't bring up. I was also there when Arma 3 launched. And I was there when Arma 2 launched. And I was there when Operation Flashpoint launched. Every Arma game is well known to be bare bones at release and later on becomes more full of content when mods arrive (I suppose Operation Flashpoint was the exception, since it wasn't a game made for mods). I never said otherwise, but this seems to be the point you are arguing for some reason. Basically, people didn't switch back to Arma 2 because of graphics, they switched because of content/mods. And when the mods on Arma 3 started appearing more and more people stuck with Arma 3. But that wasn't the only reason, the game industry was also still revealing on the DayZ mod (which was a massive hit) which came out about a year before Arma 3 launched (and spawned tons of other amazing mods on Arma 2 right before Arma 3 launched), further keeping people on Arma 2 instead of Arma 3. But the graphics were not the reason people switched back to Arma 2. The graphics in Arma 3 were far superior to Arma 2 and again, if you look at the thousands of comments, reviews, replies, etc on videos, articles, steam, for when Arma 3 launched you can clearly see that sentiment repeated there. Steam itself is showing "overwhelming positive" review score on Arma 3 in the months following it's launch. Look at the reviews themselves and they praise tons of features/graphics/physics improvement with Arma 3 vs Arma 2.

It doesnt have one and probably never will, at least officially. On the other hand, BIS will probably give the tools and support for a bunch of talented modders to remake the original Cold War Crisis campaign, just like they did for Arma 1, 2 and 3.

What they like I'm on console and it's just been released
I'm just totally pumped for the new physics overhaul. for years we've put up with "Arma moments" and gone out of our way to change tactics and gameplay preference in order to maintain immersion and reduce their frequency.
Ngl, spontaneous combustion was pretty funny sometimes
* tank hits fence * . . . * blows up*
That alone is probably the single biggest improvement, followed closely by performance. The fact that the textures, shading, and lighting are so improved *and it still runs better than 3* is... well I guess not that surprising. We all knew that.
@@Acepilot235 Tank hits enemy infantry, flies 10 miles.
I haven't seen any vehicles fly into the sky because they hit a peble in reforger yet
I have seen a few trucks fly high in the sky like stealth bombers, and cars flipping a little too easy
Overall the physics are quite nice, even doors function properly now it's insane!
The aerial movement really shows how well optimized things are so far. Personally never played any ARMA games but I can tell the developers have come a long way and learned from the past.

ArmA 3 was also released in Early Access with minimal amount of content initially and look at it now, Reforger seems to follow its steps.
So dont worry guys, we will get much more eventually
It will get better!
For free though? 30 is a little pricey...I'm skeptical about pulling the trigger.
That is true. Also DayZ ist a great game today. As Drew points out, it took some time to get to this state. But think about what developing status DayZ was in, when it launched vs Arma Reforger. I think Reforger is way ahead at this point and may develop faster than DayZ did.

@@generikusername Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead?
@@generikusername I wasn't referring to the Arma serie, but to the FPS genre overall.
But futuristic Arma3 wasn't atmospheric as well, general emphasis on realism and fictional made up equipment wasn't a good synergy.

Agreed. One of the best games of all times.
I loved the Resistance expansion , me and my friend quote it all the time " Viktor of course its a trap!"

I'm sure that it can be formed into a pretty cool piece in the Arma collection and that there's a looooot potential to it.

call me when arma lets me shoot out of vehicles windows realistically.
The Ragdolls when you shot someone standing still and they just folded in half were kinda jank but any other situation I agree they were neat
the ragdolls were terrible in ArmA 3. it's a mix between ragdolls and animations now.
I'd take Arma 2 animations over the fucked Arma 3 ragdoll anyday. Was not satisfying at all to kill someone in Arma 3
@@CJmontage101If you noticed, i actually agree that vanilla A3 ragdolls were awful, i clearly state that modded ragdoll physics that built off the base game and got rid of most of the jank are what made them so good in the end. I think they should add it to Reforger too in an original way.
Looking forward to see this engine being modded. Well done to the BIS devs.

I will confess that in a game like Arma 3 the graphics are one of the less import things in my opinion.

Shut up, don't play then
Dayz stand-alone was used to build the enfusion engine used in Reforger. Arma 4 will use improvements to engine from reforger
Sadly modding Reforger isn't as simple and fast as what modding A3 was. This time we're not going to see the same scripting & mission making scene we're used to see. :/
@@issahumps i know, dont get your point tho
@@spunFIN it took a lot of time for Arma 3 to become a great game, i dont really mind waiting for A4 to come out, and as Reforger is just a way for modders to get their hands on the engine, i dont see a reason for me to buy it, unless as i said, they fix those things i dont like
I'm genunly excited, I've been playing the arma serie since armed assault and this looks amazing !
11:37 OK there is _definitely_ some kind of fish eye effect going on here, that BTR suddenly turned into a 300m long spaghetti vehicle
