@Got Your Bitch Ass On my camara It's not broken, it works as intended as far as I've seen. It just lacks basic fundamentals. Like at least having a dedicated jump button, to go along with the interact/action button would've been nice. Instead of it being one button for both actions. And they probably should've kept a much lower set of costumes as well. So then they might be able to be a little more unique.

Snake Pass and Bionic Commando are examples of Platformers with no jumping function but who built the game around the limitation properly.
I was into it until you had to soft reset for half a day. Although my main gripe is how this is pretty much the only way to play as Balan outside of QTEs.

If the stages were made to fit around the fact you couldn't jump sometimes, then you wouldn't need to add a dedicated jump button. Imo, it would be easier for Balan Wonderworld to just change the button input to allow you to have a dedicated jump button. Or just allow the customization of button inputs like in probably more than a few games.
Random obscure things are great, except when the thing hidden is what makes the game actually playable and fun. Looks like the Balan costume actually makes the levels transversable
@@dont2671 I can't remember completely, but there is a 38 minute vidoe of a guy that 100% and read all material for the game, and he said something that he wished he had made a save (or just closed the game as an easy exploit that he didn't know at the time) because he got hit and lost access to it. He said that he had to do it all again :( He had gameplay footage of the costume and getting it, so I am inclined to believe him, even if he didn't show the process again when he lost it.
I think the worst part of the process is the rng factor of the little kingtim appearing. I probably wouldn't mind as much if that was just guaranteed to happen once you got both little and big tim triple badges.
That is the largest issue with this. If it were guaranteed with the big & small Tim, great! A nice reward for actually dealing with that insipid waste of time. But it's based on low-chance RNG that asks you to repeat the process again and again and again "as intended" until you finally get the King Tim. RNG and low chances of something isn't bad, RPG's thrive off of that with rare items, but this is not a "rare item" situation, this is you following steps that you were told about and getting nothing in return.

If anything, this is one of the more sane and standard decisions made with this game. Cool, overpowered secrets are hidden behind weird asinine gold trophy/100g Achievements all the time.
Could be worse if it was a item that only appears once per save file, but you didn't know, so after losing the costume, you exit the level, go through all that nonsense to go back to that island, then find out it's not there, reload the game and do that nonsense once again in the hope it's back, and it's still missing...
@@Xifko you actually can lose it after one hit, but if you inmediately exit the game you wont lose it or you can always feed the giant tim to wake it so it flies you to the tiny island again.
Or, if it's like the version-exclusive costumes, you can lose it, but there will always be one in your inventory so you can go get it. Honestly, they should have done that with ALL of the costumes instead of the hoarding system now.

On the one hand, I like how the methodology harkens back to the Saturn/Dreamcast era Sonic Team virtual pet mechanics that they often employed with things like the A-Life system from NiGHTS and the Chao from Sonic Adventure. How would anyone ever discovered this random step by step process just to unlock a hidden power-up? Was there a NPC or a hint that mentions about raising Tims?

This could be a really great game, that is if the level design wasn't so boring, didn't have every button mapped to jump, didn't feel so bad to control, and had its many bugs fixed.
Balan on the box cover. You sees him, you think he's cool, you think you might be able to play as him. But you only get to be "him" after you complete the game... And then what do you do? You can't really use it on anything that means anything to the story as far as I know (though the story is pretty bland I've heard). Balan being relegated to just an endgame costume to me is pretty weak. He's a very interesting guy. Only getting a little taste of what it would feel like to be him felt really cool to see in the video. Since this game is 60usd on Steam, I'll give it big ol' pass. For as cool as Balan is, and for all the potential this game had... I don't want it. But I know that the music is supposed to be good. But I can't buy just the music on Steam. :Y
Turns out on VRChat, somebody ripped Balan's model from the game and you can play as him. And if you use mods, you could fly with him too. There's a PC avatar and a Quest compatible one as well. :3

A lot of people say the costume is terrible for breaking the game... but haven't you ever played a game and said "I want to fly up there?" and get upset that you can't? People hate this costume entirely because the game is flawed... not the fact it lets them do what they wanted... Yet Mario Odyessy is praised for being absolutely terrible garbage level design where you can fly/climb nearly everything...
The fact that just sitting through the walkthrough was painful enough in its own right is a clear indication how bad the guys making the game fucked up. At least they redeemed themselves with a costume that breaks the game in a fun way.
@@cakelayer I am a fan of Yuji Naka's work, he has a very creative mind. . . but I don't see how in any universe this gameplay, level design, story telling (some neat ideas here and there but ultimately falls flat) would be seen as even remotely OK even if it was a 15$ indie game! The Art design is neat and creative, but that is really all it has going for it. Seems like the designers simply didn't know how to code a game with more then 4 buttons (options, switch costumes left and right, jump.) It takes a crazy, obscure end-game level unlock to make the game even REMOTELY resemble what people were hoping for.

Couldn‘t disagree more with the description. This is a really cool secret in a game that greatly rewards you for playing it. It‘s like finding Sephiroth in KH2. Feeding the tims is an essential part of the game, and the badges on the Tim’s seem to be plainly unlockable for more than just 2 as we see in the video a bunch of Tims with 1 or 2 badges. You could easily get a bunch of big and small tims with 3 badges instead of just the two - and still do the save and quit exploit after. Saves time having more to pool with. There‘s plenty to complain about this game, but more games should do things like this. It‘s very engaging and rewarding.

Balan costume with the ability to fly all over the stages: takes half a day to get.
Meanwhile, me with a second controller: laughs in coop bubble blower.
It's kinda sad to see that playing as Balan is the closest thing you'll get in that game to having the freedom you do in Odyssey.
And you have to do a bunch of annoying and convoluted steps just to get the costumes.

Give this at the start of the game and spare everyone the pain and frustration of trying to play it
On the one hand, I like how the methodology harkens back to the Saturn/Dreamcast era Sonic Team virtual pet mechanics that they often employed with things like the A-Life system from NiGHTS and the Chao from Sonic Adventure.
On the other hand, how the FUCK did they mess it up so badly!? It's not even that you aren't given all the puzzle pieces and have to discover it for yourself, it's that they do that AND make it a random chance? Get that shite outta here!

This costume really should have been unlocked by getting all of the Statues in every level.
That’s a fair criticism. There could have been a different more Tim-related costume for doing this method and it could also be super OP in some way.
This could be a really great game, that is if the level design wasn't so boring, didn't have every button mapped to jump, didn't feel so bad to control, and had its many bugs fixed.

Balan on the box cover. You sees him, you think he's cool, you think you might be able to play as him. But you only get to be "him" after you complete the game... And then what do you do? You can't really use it on anything that means anything to the story as far as I know (though the story is pretty bland I've heard). Balan being relegated to just an endgame costume to me is pretty weak. He's a very interesting guy. Only getting a little taste of what it would feel like to be him felt really cool to see in the video. Since this game is 60usd on Steam, I'll give it big ol' pass. For as cool as Balan is, and for all the potential this game had... I don't want it. But I know that the music is supposed to be good. But I can't buy just the music on Steam. :Y

Turns out on VRChat, somebody ripped Balan's model from the game and you can play as him. And if you use mods, you could fly with him too. There's a PC avatar and a Quest compatible one as well. :3
I enjoy this game and cannot wait for a collect-a-thon happening. Why I enjoyed it is because it was my curiosity got the best of me.

@@jwgames3631 It's no where near the same quality imo- at least with chao you cAn raise their stats and what not to partake in mini games for rings or how you act around chao determines if how it grows. All you do with tims is feed them and wait around for their tower to be built

A lot of people say the costume is terrible for breaking the game... but haven't you ever played a game and said "I want to fly up there?" and get upset that you can't?
People hate this costume entirely because the game is flawed... not the fact it lets them do what they wanted...
Yet Mario Odyessy is praised for being absolutely terrible garbage level design where you can fly/climb nearly everything...
The fact that just sitting through the walkthrough was painful enough in its own right is a clear indication how bad the guys making the game fucked up. At least they redeemed themselves with a costume that breaks the game in a fun way.

@@cakelayer I am a fan of Yuji Naka's work, he has a very creative mind. . . but I don't see how in any universe this gameplay, level design, story telling (some neat ideas here and there but ultimately falls flat) would be seen as even remotely OK even if it was a 15$ indie game!
The Art design is neat and creative, but that is really all it has going for it. Seems like the designers simply didn't know how to code a game with more then 4 buttons (options, switch costumes left and right, jump.) It takes a crazy, obscure end-game level unlock to make the game even REMOTELY resemble what people were hoping for.

This is a really cool secret in a game that greatly rewards you for playing it. It‘s like finding Sephiroth in KH2.
Feeding the tims is an essential part of the game, and the badges on the Tim’s seem to be plainly unlockable for more than just 2 as we see in the video a bunch of Tims with 1 or 2 badges. You could easily get a bunch of big and small tims with 3 badges instead of just the two - and still do the save and quit exploit after. Saves time having more to pool with.
There‘s plenty to complain about this game, but more games should do things like this. It‘s very engaging and rewarding.
