This is indeed very skillful writing. The interchanges between the piano and string instruments are magnificent throughout. A thoroughly enjoyable work.
Thjis is probably the masterpiiece - at least the master piece in chamber music - of Taneyev, a forggotten Russian composer who brided Tchaikovsky with Rachmanninov on one hand, with Sciabin on the other had. But he was not a pastromantic nor an esoteric mystic. Indeed, he was a master in counterpoinat and always tried all the comination betwwen cells, themes ....he had in mind before composing. He has a room of his own in Russian music that he was alone to occupy, but which is not acknowladged.
@@agaphonus Yes, just as Arensky's D mnor trio op. 32. Do you know the Prelude ad Fugue in G" minor for piano by Taneïev? It should be a 'must" for every pianist; jst s Liszt fantasy ans fugue on BACH.
A tremendous work! Totally unique, deep and original.
What a gem. Thanks so much for making this available.
The main body of the first movement after the Introduction is marked Allegro patetico, and starts at 3:17.
my favorite piano quintet ever.... maybe even chambermusic work!
Brilliant, sparkling performance of an absolutely lovely work.
One of the greatest Piano Quintets ever (together with such of Schumann, Drovak, Shostakovich)
And greater than them combined, comes Brahms'
HOW does one decide? I ask a Brahms fan...I love 'en ALL.
Don't forget Elgar. I'm not his biggest fan but his Piano Quintet is one of the finest pieces of British music.
I have really gotten into piano quintets lately, and I would have to agree that Brahms' is the best. However, Schumann's, Elgar's, Taneyev's, Medtner's, and Dvorak's are all great as well. Even Kapustin's is fun and refreshing! I have to say, it's hard to go wrong with a piano quintet
brahms doesn't compare with zarebski, taneyev, dvorak,
Wonderful, and music that deserves to be better known. Taneyev's chamber works are certainly up there, along side those by his better known contemporaries - mc
This is in my opinion one of the first quintets for strings and piano, together with Schumann, Franck; Brahms, Dvorak, Fauré and Chostakovitch.
Gérard Begni i agree, but do you know Wilhelm Bergers quintet? :)
@@eliaseiffert2207 Oh God - Berger's utterly perfect quintet!!! With consummate craftsmanship throughout, and a slow movement to die for.
Johannes Mohl Very nice to met somebody who loves this quintet as i do! :) i recommend to listen to his second piano quartet in c minor op 100! its the world premiere recording played by me and friends here on yourube! And its as great as his quintet ;)
@@eliaseiffert2207 Elia, that's very nice indeed. I will definitely listen to the quartet! As a complete layperson myself, I admire musicians, for the hard work they put in to act as the intermediaries between the sheet music and our "uncultured" ears! :-) Kudos to you for helping keep alive music on the fringes, and thus the spirit of people who wrote it, sometimes several lifetimes ago...
@@eliaseiffert2207 Couldn't find any trace of Joh. Mohal on RUclips!
The emotions expressed by Rubinstein and Taneyev are so much more wholesome than those expressed by Tschaikowsky.
Sergej Tanejev wrote this Piano quintet opus 30 between 1908 and 1910.
Exquisite!
Rubinstein, S. Taneyev and Miaskovsky are my 3 favorite Russian composers because they best transcend the brogue of NATIONALISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roger Nortman -- Arensky, too....Check out his two Piano Opera (Opuses)......
Meraviglioso!
rare piece
very good
What is the painting?
