    This sounds incredible. For those who have not been able to find a Borla cat back for the 987, I highly recommend the SOUL Performance catback. Incredible tone and volume, very refined with a Porsche GT like note. For around 1800 bucks it’s worth every dollar. Refined, classy and mechanical sounding.

      Hey Nick, thanks for the input! I totally agree; SOUL makes a really nice system. It's a bummer that Borla stopped selling the 987.1 cat back, but SOUL is a great alternative. Thanks again for the input!

    Hearing a nicely rev matched downshift on any car makes smile. Hearing one from a symphonic Porsche flat-six does the exact same x100. I downshift in mine way more than I should just to hear that. Nice video!

    +1. Borla 987 Cayman S enhanced. .. During the heel-toe Borla example, the exhaust note was spot on! .. As a soon to be 2015 Cayman S owner,,, the Borla exhaust makes the list. ..

    Dude! First, thx for making a video worth watching. (So many of the videos like these are impossible to get thru bcuz of the dousche factor and attempts at being funny).
    Second, great video quality from picture to sound. Personally, I couldn’t be more in agreement of improving the stock exhaust tastefully. Way too many bad fast and furious Subaru & Ford Focus buzzing around. I love the rare color of your car and beautiful dog!
    The true test and answer to the xhaust upgrade success is the giggle of satisfaction that you had. I had an 08 S and I giggled every time I drove it. Drive safe

    2009 Gen 2 Cayman here in the Uk, Nice car.. I went with the Carnewal GT exhaust zero drone but not quite as loud as the Borla. I also thing Gen 1 cars have an ever so slightly more characterful engine note (I owned a Gen 1 S but had massive bore scoring and it used to eat oil)

    Nice. Not too loud but very throaty. I like it. Ive got a borla system on my 981 boxster - ATAK I think - they didn’t do an S model. it sounds much louder at start up which is not always good - for my neighbours. After about 20 seconds it settles down. Really deep. Burps and crackles like a beast, but sometimes I wish I had something a bit less extreme like yours.

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  5 лет назад

      Yes, that’s what I love about it. So throaty!! And it just continues to sound better as it revvs through the RPM range. Such an addictive sound. Also, as far as burps and crackles, the stock exhaust muffles those like crazy. The Borla really brings those out, but not excessively so.

      @@FunAhead_TV_Official so the 2006 Cayman S I was looking at the last few days I bought it and brought it home last night. it came with the tech art bundle I haven't even explored all of the stuff it was a 14k aftermarket add-on. it came with the front splitter but not the entire front bumper I guess the owner liked the stock bumper but the rest of the package is there including the exhaust. it has TechArt embossed on the tips. so I'm eager to jack it up and take a look underneath. but it has very deep growl.

I have a Mazdaspeed with an exhaust mod that sounds SO AMAZING that I haven't been able to enjoy driving my Cayman too much with the lack of enjoyable sound.

    • @johncary4302
      @johncary4302 3 года назад

      If you want something that sounds good and still is comfortable for your ears as a daily or weekend car I would recommend getting just a catback exhaust with performance mufflers. I have the Fabspeed Supercup catback system and it's not too loud, but loud enough that I feel like I'm driving something special. The problem with going with resonators is that they give really bad drone at around 2500-3200 rpm, as I have experienced before, and overall are just a tad too loud. However, it sounds like a race car when you get in the high rev range, so I guess it all depends on what you're willing to pay and what level of sound you like to hear.

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  3 года назад

      Thank you, and you're welcome! Hmm yeaa, CA is tough with noise regulations... I'm guessing not legal there? Also, this system removes the secondary catalytic converters too... The primary cats are still there, of course, but it may hurt the ability to pass an EM check.

    • @EDavidM100
      @EDavidM100 3 года назад

      @@FunAhead_TV_Official I don't think the noise is an issue but yes removing the secondary cats would be a fail. thanks. hmmm ya how long does it take to swap out? and can you reinstall the oem exhaust. I guess I could do that every two years!!!

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  3 года назад

      It took me a couple of hours to do, primarily due to having to line up all of the parts for the new exhaust, which is in 3 pieces. However, I'd think once you get it in place and tighten it all down once then reinstallation would be much easier. But yes, it'd be really easy to throw the stock system back in there.

      @FunAhead_TV_Official  4 года назад +1

      Yes, so the Cayman inherently has crackle / pop which can be heard very faintly with the stock exhaust. However, the Borla really brings it out to a tasteful, but not to an obnoxious level.
      I purchased the system from JEGS for about $1800. Overall, it was not difficult to install as long as you have a 2nd person to help you. Once installed, it takes some adjusting and muscle to get the tips centered and straightened. That’s actually the most difficult part and it can drive you crazy... you think it’s centered, then you tighten it all down and it moves slightly. My OCD was not happy that day, but I eventually got it figured out. Nothing looks more half assed than a nice aftermarket exhaust on a nice car that’s not centered or straight, IMO.

      Hey Nacho! I don’t know it off the top of my head. Unfortunately, Borla discontinued that system. I don’t know of anywhere that sells it anymore. Maybe possible to get one used though? A great alternative is the Fabspeed Supercup Race system. Would recommend! I actually recently did a video on that system if you’re interested in seeing what it’s like.

    Are you concerned about the lack of heat shielding of the Boria exhaust over the half-shafts ... AND ... are there consequences of eliminating the secondary catalytic converter?

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  4 года назад

      Not worried about it at all. And no negative consequences of eliminating the secondary cars. Only the primary cats are monitored, so removing the secondary cats doesn’t cause a check engine light.

    Sounds good - when I bought my 987 it had borla on it - I do find it drones at 2-2500 rpm - nice when you drive through that range - just wondering if you have noticed the same ?

      Yes, I have noticed the same thing. It drones a bit at lower RPMs with some accel pedal application. However, the drone isn’t nearly as bad as I expected.

    how easy was it to remove the header/manifold bolts behind the wheels?

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  2 года назад

      Not hard! Just have to hit them with penetrating lube before taking them off to help avoiding breaking one. But, if you do break one, it’s not hard to replace with a regular bolt / nut.

    Does the check engine lights on? After upgrade?

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  5 лет назад

      Nope! This is a cat-back exhaust, so stock headers and catalytic converters are still installed. Check engine light only occurs when you change to cat-less headers, therefore the OBD check for catalyst efficiency fails because they’re not there.

      Thank You. And any changes in power? How does it feel? Better going into revs, or something like that?@@FunAhead_TV_Official We are just going to buy the 987.2 Cayman S so finding the best opportunity between aftermarket exhaust systems :)

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  5 лет назад

      Overall, there’s no significant change in power, but I notice some change in the power curve through the RPM range... so not so much in magnitude of power, but the delivery feels more linear. And there does seem to be a slight increase in throttle response; I notice it especially on heel toe shifts during the blip.
      Congrats on the 987.2! That’s going to be a great car for you. Also, if you were definitely going to get an aftermarket exhaust for it, I’d highly recommend the Borla system.

      I’ve considered doing additional brake system upgrades. However, after adding those Pagid pads I decided there’s noooo need! Those pads alone give all the stopping power.

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  5 лет назад

      Not too bad.. it can drone a bit if you’re hard into the gas when at cruising speeds, but overall it’s not too much louder than stock inside the cabin.

    • @milchomarkov8158
      @milchomarkov8158 5 лет назад

      any noticeable performance variations? probably not but more smiles per tank.

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  5 лет назад

      Not a huge performance gain, but the response is a little quicker, plus (and most importantly) it flattens out the torque curve a bit. There used to be a small dip before the vario-cam switch, but now that dip is lessened and overall the torque curve is more linear. I wouldn’t say it’s making more horsepower, necessarily, but more drivable.

    Was this an easy upgrade to do DIY? How long did it take?

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  4 года назад +1

      On a scale from 1 to 10, I’d say a 3 to 4. Very simple to remove and install, in theory, but getting the new exhaust in the correct position with the tips centered in the bumper was a frustrating process. Took maybe 20 mins to get the old system out, then a couple hours to get the new one in, if that gives you any indication. Lots of trial and error with alignment.

      @@FunAhead_TV_Official Thanks man, is there any drone in the 2k to 3k cruising region?

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  4 года назад

      Yes, there is. However it goes away at around 2900rpm. You’re supposed to keep them revved above 3k anyway, so it’s not a problem if you keep it in that range.

    • @FunAhead_TV_Official
      @FunAhead_TV_Official  5 лет назад

      It exists, but it’s not terrible. Regardless, I generally keep the engine above 3000rpm when driving for bearing durability; the drone is non-existent above about 2800rpm.

      No problem! I agree completely. The off-throttle crackle pop sound is super nice sounding too. Amazing that it did that before, but you’d never know it with how quiet the stock exhaust was.
