Terry, I would say you had a super successful collecting year in 2024! Well, that does not surprise me because you are a very focused collector who knows what you are targeting, both in terms of cards and condition, and waits patiently before buying! My favorite was your Al Bombers card, but I enjoyed seeing all of your Top 10 from 2024! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, my collecting brother! 🎄🎄🎄

Hi Adam, Merry Christmas to you and your family as well. I am grateful for a fun hobby year in 2024. I picked up a lot of great cards and magazines that fit into my collection. I also took the time to curate and enjoy my collection, which matters to me too. I don't want that to get lost as I add more cards to my collection. I know you like to do the same.
I appreciate all our interaction over the past year, my friend.
      Take care!

My favorite gift was a sega genesis. It was a gift for me and my sister, played sonic the hedgehog for it felt like that whole year. Terry your cards always have great color, you have a great eye for saturation and brightness. What a haul you had this year, I love the mix of hockey and football. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Thanks Theo! I try to ensure my lighting is good in my videos. One of the benefits of recording in a dark area is that I control the light. This allows the colors to come through.
I love my baseball cards, but my collection would not be reflective of my love of sports without football and hockey.
Thanks for sharing your favorite gift. I loved Nintendo but Sega Genesis felt like you were at the arcade. The 16 bit graphics were awesome.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hey Terry! I love so much that you're listing your favorite cards instead of your most financially valuable. The colors on that McAfee card are amazing. I love all those old classic images on the old football cards. And I love the design and color of that 1960 Topps Gump Worsely! Consider that card and set on my radar. Hard to believe the old goalies played without masks.
The 1964 A.L. Bombers card is one of my favorites too. The personal meaning it has for you I know makes it very special to you. All the cards you shared are great. Of course that Gilchrist is a classic.
I love your story of The Lone Ranger. I used to tape the episodes of the old western "Alias Smith and Jones" that way. The earliest Christmas present I remember, I think I may have shared this with you, was a toy drum my parents got me for Christmas in 1963. My sister and I would march around the house pretending we were in the Kennedy funeral procession we had seen several weeks before. It was a red drum which was pretty big and my mom had to improvise a strap so I could march with it. The sad event of the Kennedy assassination was what sparked a lifelong love affair with the drums.
Anyway, thanks for asking us to reflect and share. Gonna read what the other guys have to share here. Have a Merry Christmas!

    • @jga59
      @jga59 14 дней назад +1

Maybe a better way of saying that would be that a love of drums was born out of that sad event.

Hi Gannon! I am glad you appreciate my approach to this Top 10. You know me - it’s always been more about the memories and connections they bring than their monetary value. There is no huge dollar cards hear for those that covet that, but that is fine with me. I am building something that I appreciate, and it means a lot when other recognize that. For me, I spent a lot on that Richard, but it was time to add another one of his cards to my collection. I want to have a well-rounded 50s and 60s hockey collection and having a few Rocket cards will help do that. That McAfee card really does pop with those colors, doesn’t it? And the 1960 Topps Gump Worsley is a beauty. I’m thrilled it caught your eye. It is the same photo as his 1961 Topps. I can't believe those old goalies braved the game without masks. They were a different breed for sure!
The 1964 A.L. Bombers card will always hold a special place for me, and it is one that I want to stay in the family when I am gone given the deeper meaning. It's great to hear it’s one of your favorites too. As always, I really appreciate how much thought you put into your reflections on the cards I shared.
Your story about the toy drum and the Kennedy funeral procession is heartwarming. I do remember you mentioning it in the past, but I am glad you brought it up as a response to this video. What a vivid and poignant memory-and how amazing that it sparked your lifelong love of the drums. It's interesting how such early moments leave such a lasting impact.
I’m really looking forward to hearing more from everyone, too. Thanks again for sharing, and I hope you have a Merry Christmas as well, my friend!

Well my all time favorite christmas gift i ever got was a white GT bike with a hat and sweatshirt to go with it. I have a picture of me riding it on my desk. GREAT showcase of your top 10 pick-ups of 2024! The 1962 Topps Bobby Hull is my favorite! My earliest memory of a toy I received on Christmas day is a Disney ferris wheel toy. That probably explains my love for Disney. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 Enjoy with your family and loved ones!

Wonderful pickups this past year Terry. Really enjoyed this video, as I always do. My favorite memory is when I was five or six and my older brother and I got toy tractors for Christmas. The reason that stands out is because my dad would often take me up to my uncle’s‘s farm to tagalong while he did some work on my uncle‘s old farm house. My uncle had an old international harvester red tractor that I loved to sit in and pretend I was farming. The toy tractor my mom, & dad got my brother and I, were red international harvesters. My mom and dad still have them & still my favorite Christmas memory. Merry Christmas to you and your family Terry.

An awesome collection, Terry. I didn’t realize how many of your videos I caught up with this year as I remembered you covering a bunch of these. Happy to see all those cards again though, my friend. I love your collection focus and the memories attached to the cards for you. Thanks for sharing as always. Merry Christmas 🎄
As for first Christmas toy memories, I have to say I remember getting a diecast metal excavator toy (made by the Caterpillar company) which was a replica of their large heavy equipment. The digging arm moved and everything. Super cool. 😎

      Hi MD,
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch so many of my past videos. I like doing a couple of recaps throughout the year-one around the six-month mark and another at the end of the year. These recaps are a great way for me to reflect on where I am with my collection, what motivated me to pick up certain cards, and how they fit into the broader scope of my collection.
Different cards hold different meanings. For me, collecting is simple in some ways and complicated in others. Sometimes, I’m drawn to a card purely because of its visual appeal or because it aligns with a project I’m working on. Other times, a card has personal significance, reminding me of special memories from my childhood or moments shared with my dad, father-in-law, or grandfather. Occasionally, I’ll read about a player, like Gump Worsley, and feel inspired to add their cards to my collection.
You’ve also given me a great idea for a future video-thank you for that!
By the way, thank you for sharing your Christmas memory. Those big trucks were so much fun to play with and incredibly durable. I still have the ones my kids played with when they were little.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas, MD!

I remember getting a pack of football cards for Christmas back in 1970. The only card that I distinctly remembering getting out of the pack is Bubba Smith. But as far as a Christmas toy, I recall getting an electric football game that barely worked. The pieces (players) would bounce and jiggle all over the field and the ball was this very small piece of foam. Nice year of pickups with the 59 Parkhurst Richard being my favorite.

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  14 дней назад +1

Thanks, Chris, for playing along. 1970 is Bubba Smith's rookie card-nice! My brother and I used to play electric football as well as tabletop hockey. Depending on your age, there were different iterations of those games. We would order additional teams, which added to the fun. For hockey, my cousin, who was a little older than my brother and me, had teams like the Oakland Seals, Canucks, and Penguins in their older uniforms. I don't know about you, but we would lose the foam footballs and end up rolling up a small piece of tape as a substitute.
Thanks again for sharing your memories.
I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!

    Hey Terry!
First of all, you know about my first toy, my bear! You had a good year. I was glad I got to see most of these cards in sneak preview. I was going to say the Rocket Richard was my favorite card, but that Robin Roberts is a great card too. That 54 Bowman set is so underrated. Too many people compare it to the 1953 set and don't give the 54 set enough credit. Going back to the Richard card, Just that blue and white background with his red Habs uniform up front makes him standout I do love that A.L. Bombers card. I know I am going to end up buying that one some day.
I never get tired of hearing your admiration of Billy Shaw. That 1962 Fleer card is great. Funny that you had to buy the card from a seller in Guam. I think I've only bought from the US and Canada.
The Hull and Beliveau cards still have me shaking my head. That hickey card collection of yours is the best. Of course your AFL collection is pretty top notch too..The Cookie card was a great pickup! You had a great year, Terry! I am sure 2025 will be more of the same. Take care!

      Hey Rick!
I’m glad you liked the video. Yes, you usually get a sneak peek. I always enjoying hearing your thoughts.
I agree with you on the Rocket Richard card-there’s something about that blue and white background with his red Habs uniform that makes it pop! And you’re right, the 1954 Bowman set doesn’t get enough love compared to the ‘53. I think people overlook how sharp those cards really are. The Roberts was not a planned purchase. I just saw it while looking at eBay. It's a beautiful card and the price was right. It took me awhile to finally pull the trigger on the AL Bombers card. Not sure exactly why as I've always like it.
Billy Shaw was a great player and person. I liked the 1962 Fleer card from the moment I saw it, but it was not a cheap one. Especially, for an offensive lineman. Getting it from Guam makes for a fun story. If you collect hockey cards, then you better be prepared to do a lot of business with Canada.
Appreciate the kind words, Rick. 2025 is definitely looking exciting, and I’m sure we’ll both keep adding some great cards to our collections. Take care, my friend!

Like I mentioned, the 71 Vida Blue is one of the iconic cards of our generation.
Thanks, as always, for your friendship and support. I am wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas.

Hello Terry, great video. I don't remember my first Christmas gift. I just remember , very young i had a plush dog who slept with me. He was my guardian versus the "night monsters" ...😁. Wow you picked up some great cards during this year ! My Favourire are the 1948 Leaf George McAfee card and the 1958 Topps CFL Cookie Gilchrist card . I’m glad you enjoyed the cards! The 1948 Leaf George McAfee and the 1958 Topps CFL Cookie Gilchrist are such standout pieces-I’m really happy to have them in the collection, and it means a lot to hear they’re your favorites.

Hi Terry! Wonderful recap of your year of pickups. You always buy beautiful examples of cards, my friend. The 54 Roberts was probably my favorite because I just love that set. As far as toys go, I can’t really remember much from back then except for an AWA wrestling ring and figures I got lol. I really loved pretending I was pinning Ric Flair for the belt. Take care, my friend!

Thanks for the kind words about my pickups. I love that Roberts card. It wasn’t on my radar for 2024, but I saw it on eBay one day, and the price was right, so I went for it. I’m so glad I did!
Thanks for sharing your Christmas memories. I had that AWA ring too, so I know exactly what you’re talking about. Mine came with the steel cage attachment. I sold it along with all my wrestling figures when I was in my twenties. Funny enough, I actually used some of that money to put into my card collection when I first started collecting as an adult.
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May 2025 bring you health, happiness, and meaningful moments.

Terry, great top ten from 2024. My favorites are the Parkhurst Maurice Richard and Topps Bobby Hull.
The first toy that I remember getting from Christmas was a Hot Wheels track that you could pump air through some large wheels that would propel the car around the track. I played without it all day when I set it up. Sadly, my two year old brother broke the mechanism, but still have fond memories. Merry Christmas my friend to you and your family.

I think the first toy that I can remember was a stuffed Hulk Hogan doll that you could wrestle with. I just thought it was so cool as he was such a popular puplic figure in the early 90's! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, looking forward to what 2025 brings you in the hobby. Enjoy your time with family and friends!

Hi Mike! Merry Christmas to you and your family as well. I am sure you have a fun time ahead of you. Yeah, Worsley was one of the great personalities of the game. He refused to wear a facemask. It was the era he came up in and didn't feel comfortable with one. It is unbelievable that he was still doing it into the 70s as middle aged and playing against players who hard harder shots due to the curve blade.
The Hulkser! Very cool. Thanks for playing along.

Terry! Great share! I am a little late on watching this video. I have been training a guy at work so i am not on my phone as much to watch content. Plus the holidays. I knew i had to watch this one. Love the McAfee and the Roberts. The AL Bombers is one of my all time favorite player combo cards. Really cool to see players like Vida Blue in the PC as well. The Richard is beautiful.
Gosh. My first toy i remember as a kid is hot wheels. Also my favorite that i remember overall as a kid was gi joe action figures! Hawk, Flint, Beachead, Cobra Commander, Low Lite, etc... i absolutely loved gi joe. I will still watch them streaming on occasion. Enjoyed as always!

Hello Terry. Nice recap on your top ten pickups for 2024. I love the commentary as to why you chose to pickup a card. Those vintage colors help to sell the card. The Maurice Richard card is so beautiful. I love the complementing colors. Like you, I like collecting Mantle when I can. That AL Bombers is on my list for 2025. To answer your question regarding a memorable Christmas gift, I do recall a metal truck that would carry plastic animals. My most noteworthy gift that made me the collector I am today was on my 10th birthday, two weeks before Christmas. It was the Milton Bradley board game that contained some 1968 Topps.

I agree, those vintage colors have a magic all their own, and the Maurice Richard card is definitely a standout. The complementary colors really bring it to life. Mantle is always a joy to collect, and I hope you’re able to add that AL Bombers card to your collection in 2025-it’s a classic! I hope to add a Mantle combo card in 2025, and maybe a magazine or two. The only single cards of him I need are from 1955 and before and it is unlikely I will be adding those anytime soon.
Your story about the metal truck and the Milton Bradley board game is fantastic. I can see how those 1968 Topps cards would spark a lifelong passion for collecting. It’s amazing how those early gifts can have such a lasting impact. Thanks for playing along.

Hey Terry! These are some great pickups you’ve shared from your collecting year and a great video showcasing them.
I’m going to do a similar type video in the coming days.
For an early Christmas gift I remember would have to be a yellow tonka tanker truck. Wish I still had that but my mom donated it along with some other toys to a good cause to help children in need.
What I really wish I still had were the combat planes my father drew for me from scratch on the back of discarded IBM cards from his work. He was a skilled drawer but I think I left them in my desk at my elementary school and it burned down over that weekend. Gets me really sad thinking about that.
Anyway, may you and your family have a merry Christmas! CK

Thanks for playing along by sharing one of the first gifts you remember. I used to love playing with those big Tonka trucks. I got to relive those days when my kids were young. We still have their trucks in the basement. It is nice your mom gave them to needy kids, but I can understand the nostalgic feelings you have for them.
That too bad about your dad's combat plane drawings. How awful that your school burned down. Thank goodness it was over the weekend, but sad that the drawings were in your desk.
Merry Christmas to you and your family too.
      Take care!

Hi Terry! Really enjoyed your recap. You had yourself a successful 2024.
I definitely will never be as tough as Gump Worsley. Really enjoyed seeing the AL Bombers card again. Since you originally shared the Bombers card, I always think of you when I see it now. The Rocket Richard was beautiful. I know you collected a lot of Starting Lineups and selling them off for that card has to make that card even more special. The Cookie Gilchrist had to be the cherry on top for you when fuming this. I’m glad you added that. It definitely found the perfect home.
I’m not sure if you ever watched David Letterman but he would have Jay Thomas on once a year and he’d always tell a story about him and the Lone Ranger. It was pretty funny and may be worth searching RUclips for if you’re not familiar.
My favorite may have been a boom box my mom got me. It gave me a love of music and I still have it. Most memorable may be the original Nintendo system. I was five and my parents bought it to help with my hand eye coordination. 30 years later I bought my son a Nintendo Switch because we were in COVID and no idea when it would end. My mom enjoyed that connection.
Merry Christmas, Terry. And may 2025 bring health and prosperity to you and your family.

Hi Andy! Thanks so much for the kind words and for taking the time to share your memories. It’s always great hearing from you!
Gump Worsley really was a special player-imagine playing goalie without a mask in your forties, let alone at any point of your career! I am honored that the AL Bombers card has become something you associate with me. That’s such a cool connection. Selling off the Starting Lineups to get the Rocket Richard card really did make it special-it represents a shift in my collecting journey. I still have some more to sell, so maybe I can add one or two bigger cards. At least for my budget anyway. And I agree, the Cookie Gilchrist card was the perfect way to cap off the year. It’s one of those pieces that feels like it belongs in my collection, and I’m glad you think so too!
I’ll definitely have to look up the Jay Thomas story about the Lone Ranger. Thanks for the suggestion!
Your memories of the boom box and the Nintendo are wonderful. I love that your mom gave you something that sparked your love for music. Nintendo improving your hand-eye coordination. Nice! My dad bought us the Atari 2600 in 1980, and I wonder if he told my mom that. Haha. He liked playing the games almost as much as we did. He was a fun guy. Those are the kinds of stories that make collecting and memory-making so meaningful. Thanks for playing along.
Merry Christmas to you and your family as well, Andy. I hope 2025 brings plenty of health, happiness, and joy your way. Looking forward to staying connected and sharing more memories in the new year!

Oh, and the first toy that comes to mind for me was my oversized Chewbacca figure. 16 or 20 inches, with the bandolier and his cross bow gun. I felt like Han’s sidekick became my sidekick from the moment I opened the package!

    Hi there, Terry
Gee, I just love your editing this year! The 10 year period of 60- i believe 69 project and video had some extremely nice moments..a few of the zooming in or out combined with the music were very emotionally resonate and just so exceptionally well executed. Last week's video was a tour de force of tremendous NFL and ACL selections. I just love the copies you obtain and how you present them. I dove into graded cards w your guidance. Of course I had trouble sticking to 30 cards per topps yrs. I think I have around 100 1975 topps now. I fell in love w how commons in that yr in an 8 or 9 are around 9 dollars, but I do enjoy psa even though I wasn't a graded collector ever before.
It's fantastic your Gilcrest has remained your favorite on the year.. terrific narration. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! I also just want to say RIP regarding Rickey Hendersons passing. Looking forward to 2025. 😊😊😊😊

      Hi Avian,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment-it means a lot! I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying the editing. I always aim to challenge myself to create content that captures the essence of my collection and the significance these cards hold for me. The core of my collection consists of key cards from the 1950s to the 1980s, and displaying them in cases for collectors to see really brings that to life. The audio clips and music add to the nostalgic feel in a way words alone can’t achieve.
I love hearing about your dive into graded cards! The 1975 Topps set is such a colorful and iconic choice-it’s easy to see how it became a favorite. I completely understand the challenge of sticking to just 30 cards per year; those commons in PSA 8 or 9 for under $10 are a real bargain.
While I didn’t get the 1961 Fleer Jim Brown this year, I was happy to add the 1958 Topps Gilchrist to my collection. I’m in no hurry-it’s all about enjoying the process.
I agree with you on buying collectibles internationally. There are indeed great deals to be found, and with eBay’s protection, the risk is minimal.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well! Rickey Henderson’s passing was definitely a tough loss-his legacy in the game is unmatched. Here’s to an exciting and meaningful 2025 ahead.
      Take care,
      Terry

Hi Terry. I really enjoyed your top 10 list, just incredible cards. My memory has faded a little over the years, but I have to tell you what my fondest Christmas present was. It was in the late sixties when myself and 3 of my brothers, all got hockey skates that the colours match our favourite hockey team. With only 6 teams to choose from, I picked the Black Hawks, one of my brothers picked the Bruins and the other 2 picked the Maple Leafs. We also received 2 hockey nets. We certainly got our use out of them. Winters were a lot longer back then, where park hockey was an everyday thing, From December to Early March. Those were the days (stealing a line from Archie Bunker). Thanks for sharing my friend. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holidays and a Happy New Year. Thanks pal.

I am glad you enjoyed the top 10 list. It was fun putting it together and recounting the reasons why they are in my collection.

You did very well this year Terry! I was a big fan of Vida Blue during the A’s 3-year run of championships & when our Yankees were on a downward trend. There were other great characters & players on those teams as well-Bando, Fingers, Reggie, Rudi & of course owner Charlie Finley was quite a character & polarizing figure as well. You have me thinking long & hard about that Beliveau card & that 1965 Topps set. I almost got that set’s Worsley & his successor, Eddie Giacomin for my goalie subset earlier this year but missed out both times. I’ll have to try harder. I’ve been testing my memory trying to remember a Christmas gift I got as kid & the only thing that sticks out is getting a Canadiens hockey jersey. Now what kind of gift is that for a young Leaf fan? I don’t remember wearing it much either. 😂

    • @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648
      @tjmacvintagecardsnostalgia648  15 дней назад +1

Thanks Gary! Those A's teams were a fun bunch. The 70s version of "The Gashouse Gang" with their cast of characters that were out of step with the more conservative baseball culture of the day.
The Giacomin and Worsley are two fantastic cards in the 1965 Topps set. The Cornoyer, Giacomin, Esposito, Paul Henderson and Cheevers rookies are all daunting when trying to get the key cards in this set. Not sure if I will get those. At least not right away. I picked up the Bathgate about a month or so ago but haven't shown it yet.
One of these days, send me a photo of all the goalies in your subset. I have seen some of them but would like to see the group.

I think the first toy I could remember is from when I was either 3 or 4 years old. It was the electronic football game where the field would vibrate and the pieces on the board would move. Loved it and played it non stop. I still have it. Maybe I should break it out some day. While all of the cards were fantastic selections, I think the Vida Blue was my favorite. It brings me back to a time when the Swingin' A's were fun to watch and the franchise was in a better place. Merry Christmas.

      Hey Drew,
That electronic football game brings back some great memories for me too! I remember those vibrating fields and trying to steer those little plastic players in the right direction-it was chaotic, but so much fun. My brother and I would order additional teams and when we lost the foam footballs, we would roll up a small piece of tape to use in its place. How awesome that you still have yours! You should definitely break it out sometime-it’d be a great way to relive those childhood moments.
The Vida Blue card is such a great card. It really does capture that era when the Swingin' A's were at their peak-a team full of characters, talent, and swagger.

I know we have chatted about it a few times, it is just a classic card, I am with you I would love to be able to know what they were talking about during the photo shoot!

Like the Vida Blue, the AL Bombers card is one I should have added a long time ago given the meaning it has to me. The older I get; those are the cards I want most. You're right we have talked about how classic that AL Bombers card is and what may have been going on at that moment.
I’m thrilled you enjoy the vintage hockey cards. I wasn't sure if collectors would be as interested in them being hockey is not nearly as popular as baseball. I agree that the colors and designs from that era really do stand out, and it’s easy to see why they’ve become such a favorite part of my collection. The Parkhurst Rocket Richard is definitely special. His cards are in high demand, so when you add one it is to be celebrated. If you ever dive into hockey, I have no doubt you’d build an amazing and meaningful collection!
Robin Roberts and the 1971 Vida Blue are must-haves, for sure. Roberts’ legacy as one of the most dominant pitchers of his era is not reflected in his card prices, and that Vida Blue card captures the energy of his breakout season so well. I hope you can add them both soon!
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as well, Steve. Here’s to health, happiness, and maybe a few new cards in 2025!
      Take care!

The Lone Ranger theme is a classic. It would give me goose bumps as a kid.

Hi Mark, I like you list too. A nice variety of sports and vintage and modern. The Nettles rookie is a good addition to your collection. I know he is one of your favorites.
I hope you had a nice Christmas.
