I really don't know, I have wondered, is it because of the winds where a pitched roof would have a hard time and a flat roof wouldn't catch the winds as bad, They really get some very high winds there.

Thanks for the comment, I was so annoyed when it happened, Fortunately I have a spare pair in the car but it has cost me £66.00 So not too bad.
